Some part of him, some small part of him, feels guilty for framing Cillian in that light. Navy’s sure, if you’re a dyed in the wool Rocket loyalist, that Cillian’s perfectly fine. He’s a guy you can have a drink with.[break][break]
Thea isn’t a Rocket grunt. She’s a girl, a girl who needs to understand that her region is under threat from monsters. If fear of Cillian impresses upon her the severity of their circumstances, he will gladly use the Harbinger’s reputation against him.[break][break]
He moves to speak, but finds that his own lungs are strained. Between rampant tobacco abuse and the impromptu nature of this training, he finds the words won’t come out. Instead, he keeps going down the sand, reaching the halfway mark. From there, they can turn back. As Navy turns, he takes the chance to speak.[break][break]
“If you’re in his way, he will. Without hesitation. All for the glory of Rocket.” So spoke the Elite. So he spoke before turning back, rushing up the beach. In his mind, it’s some fallen soldier he carries back from the front. They’re another one bound for Kyle’s care. The top champion will bring them back. There will be no tears in some distant home.[break][break]
They’re back where they started. Huffing, Navy takes to a knee. He misses the strength of his youth, robbed from him by space-time.[break][break]
“When you, uh, when you really gotta run for your life, there’s not much time to warm up.” Every breath is strained, his lungs pulling in as much air as they can handle.[break][break]
At least Roland is a gentler teacher. He instructs Thea’s Pokemon to strike one by one, blocking their attack and correcting their poise. Navy finds it cute, but he hasn’t the air to voice the thought.

“We have a lot of contingency plans, but none of ‘em seem all that proactive.” A small pause is accompanied by a smile. For a man with an eighth grade education, he just said a whole lot of five dollar words. “At least, when stuff happens, folks answer the call. Feels like pretty much every trainer in the region was up there fighting Kyurem in January.”

He didn’t expect to wake up. There’s no more second chances. kyle lopez isn’t around to resurrect him again. There will be no last minute deus ex machinas.[break][break]
So, when he wakes up to ambient, clinical white light, he thinks that he must be dead. Like any warrior must, he tries to raise himself to his feet. There’s another battle, even if he is dead. There is but one reaper, and Navy knows he must elude them.[break][break]
When he finds that he is bound to the bed, he seizes up. Taking a moment to take in his surroundings, he sees both of his arms are cuffed to the bed. A long IV line hooks into his vein, feeding much needed fluids to a shattered body. This has been a long time coming. It’s his poor fortune that his body’s needs have caught up to him here, in some unfamiliar hospital.[break][break]
Someone, perhaps a nurse, walks out, saying something about fetching a doctor. He’s a prisoner here, plain and simple. Anyone who watches the news would recognize his face, with how they put him on posters now.[break][break]
The question, he supposes, is this: does Rocket know he’s here, in this sorry state?

“I…I slept okay.” When he fell asleep, somewhere in the hours past midnight. He looked up at a dark ceiling, listening to sounds outside his window, wondering if an attack would force him awake. Realizing Melody wasn’t going to find time to text him back, realizing Rocket wasn’t coming, he had no choice but to close his eyes…[break][break]

“Alright, Baki. King and I’ll focus on one. You grab the other for now.” With a nod towards King, he points at Cleo. He’s picked his target.[break][break]
King, who doesn’t have many options for long-range attacks, roars his agreement. Charging across the pitch, his massive body sways back and forth. He doesn’t have much occasion to run. The exercise will do him good, even if it leaves him slower than an apex specimen would be.[break][break]
“Get a good jab in!” King listens, and so he tries to obey. King swipes at Cleo with his barbed tail, a poison jab to get this party started.

The smaller head protests, trying to wake its big brother up, but it is soundly out cold.[break][break]
Roland’s strike summons a thunderbolt down on the head of another encroaching monster. The Weezing reels from the hit, not yet taken out. Roland’s blade wards them off, striking out to keep the monsters from getting too close.[break][break]
“We’ve got Unovan gym leaders, Galarian princes and princesses, homegrown bad boys, pretty much anything. You name it, it’s probably here in Hoenn. Thank Arceus for that.” He doesn’t know how they’d hold on without all the foreign help.[break][break]
Some of the Weezings, those of a Galarian bent, begin spreading a fairy mist throughout the field. It presses up against the electricity, the two forces battling for dominance.[break][break]
