An enormous feline form descended upon the center of the battlefield. Gunner recognized it from reports on the resurfaced island. From the Rondez-view of Luv route for dahlia goode. In it, this leopardine Pokémon had killed the Commissioner. [break][break]

A shout tore from Gunner's throat as PENELOPE LIVY screamed in agony. Every instinct in him begged him to flee from the terror of two Ruinous Beasts, from the blackened RUINATION and overwhelming grasp of HATRED. But instead, he ran toward his boss. [break][break]

Hands swapped Pokémon with an economy of motion borne from muscle memory. Gunner's Zeraora disappeared into his capsule, replaced by a much larger and more fire-resistant ally: his Arcanine. As they reached Penelope's side, Gwyn ap Nudd positioned his body between the humans and the pillars of molten fire; the dog shot Chi-Yu a warning look before turning to his trainer. [break][break]

"Miss Livy, we need to retreat!" Gunner hissed as he grabbed her shoulder. When she did not move, too frozen by pain, he did not hesitate to scoop her up in his arms. "Gwyn ap Nudd!" [break][break]

The Arcanine howled. An instant later, they vanished in the familiar form of teleportation, along with Penelope's Blaziken and Chi-Yu. [break][break]

Later, after delivering his boss to a team of medics, Gunner sat alone at the League research station, his hands clasped together in an attempt to stop them from shaking. He recalled the name Elisabeth Fiorelli had called her companion: Cross. [break][break]

jayden cross, the true identity of the CEO of Wyndon Pharmaceuticals. [break][break]

Swearing viciously, Gunner stood and kicked his chair over in a fit of rage.

Naming jayden cross was the second egregious mistake that Elisabeth Fiorelli had made against the League, but it would not prove the most costly. Not in a way that mattered to the underboss, at least.[break][break]

That privilege was reserved for MATIAS SILPH's discovery of the existence of Admin Bee. But as of here and now, she'd not been forced to pay the cost of either transgression. Not yet.[break][break]

A shattering dome of black ice cut through the field of battle, rendering their enemies shaky and unstable. Another blow was not necessary for them to know it was time to retreat.[break][break]

"Watch them flee like frightened Scatterbugs," she sneered, watching Gunner Graves gather PENELOPE LIVY in his arms to TELEPORT. She relished this, seeing her enemy so weak and pathetic as to be rendered into another's care. It satisfied some dark part of her, the one that knew the councilwoman's airs were a flimsy attempt at feigning superiority over them both.[break][break]

Ruination was their mutual birthright. None of them were innocent, not with that destructive mark upon their souls.[break][break]

"Calm yourself," she continued, calmer now as a hand moved to rest upon the admin's shoulder. She shouldn't have dared to approach him, not when he was in this state of bloodlust, but a sense that he'd allow her ultimately drew her closer. "Let them cower in the shadow of your wrath. They will not be so fortunate to escape it, later."[break][break]

As they moved to depart, neither could have known of the summons that would ultimately reunite them.[break][break]

Theirs was still the false appearance of black-and-white perception.
