Rusturf Tunnel was one of Hoenn's most important thoroughfares; without it, the only ways between Mauville and Rustboro were long and arduous, even by the Champion's standards. One alternative was to brave the cold, western Hoennian seas in the saddle of a water Pokémon. Those seas were also Sharpedo territory; even with a Sharpedo or other swift water Pokémon, travel was dangerous. There was a reason that cargo ships often had Pokémon trainers onboard, dedicated to warding off Sharpedo attacks. A school of them was more than capable of chewing through even reinforced hull. Candles illuminate the area in flickering lights, drawing attention to the blood coating every surface. Bowls sit before these roughly hewn statues. Though a truly religious woman, her stomach roils at the thought of this worship. As a child lays a piece of her arm on an altar, the veteran steps forward. [break][break] When she looks at these stones, she does not see Arceus’s beauty. There is no divinity in them. [break][break] Her drill instructor voice comes out in a bark. Icy eyes stare down these sycophants with the force of a blizzard. “These are just mud!” She grabbed the girl’s arm and tries to wrench it back. Blood coats her ivory palms. Only empty eyes stare back, more like a doll’s than a human being’s. “Zere is no reason to hurt yourself! Do not be silly!” The moment she lets go, the toddler goes back to its grim task. A pocket knife expanding the hole. [break][break] Surprised by her rage, Lydia turns upon the altar itself. With a snarl, she hefts a statue and hurls it at a wall. Poorly constructed by feeble minds, it explodes into dust. “Enough!” The group in front of her shudders. Small, protesting groans emerge. These things must be destroyed. [break][break] Turning to the Iron Valiant beside her, the pair begin to slowly dismantle this little alcove’s idols. Even as worshippers turn on them with blooded nails, they continue. Almost as fervent in their desire to destroy this aberration as the worshippers are to bend knee to it. [break][break] This was God’s work. The real one. Nothing stops the mania of worship, especially under thrall like this. The victims of these chains lament, turning to her to vent their frustrations, their efforts ultimately meaningless. What the fuck were they all doing? They would die! Melody walks forward but she stops in her tracks again. She wanted to be brave, she wanted to save them from a similar fate they had shared in the past. [break][break] What madeleine would have done with a poison like this...[break][break] Meloetta and Cobalion both snap her out of it, placing a hand on both of them and leaning in for support. She starts to feel sick again but sits on cobalion. "Alright guys, we're saving them all here." He draws his SACRED SWORD, rushing towards the statue. The trainers and their pokemon move to stop them but Meloetta intervenes as they join together in song as Melody has meloetta use SING. to knock them out quickly before they hurt themselves more. Cobalion rushes forward and destroys the statues with blazing speed and strength in one fell swoop. [break][break] then suddenly, they all pass out and the chains start to dissipate from some of the trainers and the others sleep soundly. Hopefully when they woke up it would've all just been a bad dream.
