THE CONTEST HALL is brimming with patrons for the first time in a long time. What was once a quiet community in Hoenn's rural southwest, is now the center of immense attention. The tree, beautifully white, stands tall through the center of the stage and through an open air roof. As the spectators file into their seats, the host, COOPER ARMSTRONG, waddles to the front of the stage.[break][break]

He grasps the silver microphone stand awkwardly, and the speakers groan with feedback. As he clears his throat, he introduces himself and states that half the proceeds of this contest will go to rangers and their efforts to preserve Hoenn's wilderness. The rancher peers up at the tree, its bark almost blinding. "WELL, AIN'T THAT A PRETTY TREE... ER, BEAUTIFUL TREE. WE HAVE TWO SPECIAL JUDGES WITH US TODAY."[break][break]

AFTERWARD, the rancher clears his throat to speak once more. He seems nervous as he blots his sweaty brow with a handkerchief featuring The Horned Ranch's branding.[break][break]

"WE HOPE Y'ALL ENJOY THE GORGEOUS PERFORMANCES YER ABOUT T'SEE T'DAY. FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE FRONT SEATS, JUST BE AWARE YER IN THE 'SPLASH ZONE'."[break][break]

He looks to the stage and extends a bearish hand toward the floor. "AFTER EACH PERFORMANCE, OUR MR. MIMES WILL HELP BY FLUSHING ALL THE RESIDUAL GUNK THROUGH A TRAPDOOR IN THE STAGE. SO Y'WON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT OUR PERFORMERS' SAFETY, I RECKON." with a clap of his hands, he raises his voice. "SO ARE Y'ALL READY TO GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD?"[break][break]

The crowd cheers. The contest begins, unaware of what else begins below.

A lumbering giant of a Pokemon entered the stage, a comparatively smaller figure upon its back. For a "beauty" contest, it seemed that the competitor had forgotten that this was supposed to be a contest that judged beauty. The fossil Pokemon stompted intimidatingly, and its teeth crackled in an illuminating Thunder Fang. Up on its back, a man was now visible in detail with the terrific light, grinning audaciously as he struggled to keep his hood up. The Aerodactyl's skin was smooth and polished, a sort of natural beauty only enhanced by the fierce curve of its horns, matching the more curved "horns" on the man's hood. Through all the chaos, all the lights, and the audience, Rex could only wonder how he got roped into something so stupid. [break][break]

Reward. Ah, yes, that was an amazing reason. You're a distraction. An even more amazing excuse! [break][break]

Either way, Rex was sure he'd kill it. He had no fancy suit, but the bright blue hood and white scarf that hung from his neck made for a colorful view to distract from the grey of his partner...and more importantly, looked nothing like himself in public. Little blue jewels hung from his ears, more of a good luck charm for confidence as he beamed at the audience, and One stompted once more. [break][break]

The Pokemon seemed a natural in showing off, Ancientpower swirling around it, the spinning rocks reflecting the yellow light of Thunder Fang in perhaps the only beautiful move Rex and One were capable of. A flap of its wings, and One finally rose slightly, and slammed down in a suddenly sparkling display as the Ancientpower shattered, the residue flickering about in a display much like sparkling dust. [break][break]

Rex waved atop his Pokemon's back, doing his best to not let his smiling face transform into a sneer, already forgetting whether he was using his real name for this or not. He didn't know what those bigwigs thought, but he thought it was pretty damn pretty from where he sat, One was practicing that all this morning! [break][break]

temperature seems to drop fast as the introduction for the second judge starts. lights dim besides the spotlight of the stage as playful barks sound from the back.

a mightyena trots to the center of the stage, where it appears to spontaneously 'combust' in an explosion of ice. stalagmites of frost juts outwards from the mightyena's position, almost encompassing the entire stage with its influence. the subzero slammer from the mightyena's z-move quickly takes the stage by surprise, contrasting against armstrong's more subdued introduction.

the ice glows white, and then dissipates into snowflakes and mist from the mightyena's hyper beam. from the remnants of the block of cold comes the elite four in what seems to be a flashy outfit. a finger taps the lapel mic on his collar nervously before he speaks.

"i'm kyle!" the script in his head is seemingly forgotten, but a proud smile showcases the false bravado regardless. "yeah, i'm kyle." he repeats before going to his place on the podium with a hand raised, waving.

Failing to hire a coordinator to design an entrance as spectacular as Kyle's Lucas enters under stage light from the dark. The stage lighting illuminates the fine details of his black suit. From head to toe it features a white geodude pattern. As Lucas walks across stage his graveler cufflinks glint in the stage light.[break][break]

"And I'm Lucas Lane!" He waves his hand towards the crowd. "I'm excited to be here and see the marvelous performances everyone has to offer!"

Behind the mist that suddenly enshrouded the contest grounds, the clicking sound of her croconaw-skin stilettos resonated and heralded the arrival of Valerio—or should the people recognize as Vanessa. Donning the enchanting elegance from the ditto witch’s impeccable transformation, her silk-smoothened skin adorned by the Galarian blue velvet and her bulky figure tempered by the wooloo fur coat. Naua—contest name Maia, her long-time partner kingdra, was tailing her from behind.

The haze was produced from RAIN DANCE—the dragon pokémon radiated her internal heat, evaporating the water before it even reached the ground. The result was a screen of pure white, silhouettes gracing the podium as they dance at the hum of click-clacking heels.

But then the duo did not stop there: the kingdra gathered the remaining moisture in the air, formed a giant ball of water, and used an ICE BEAM to freeze the sphere before bursting into fine, grainy particles of ice that shimmered at the sight of Vanessa and Maia.

“Greetings, Littleroot!” There was an attempt to soften the voice, but it was not very successful. “Don’t forget to cheer for Maia and me, okay?”

the young alfric's entrance was comparatively more subdued, the gentle plucking of the delicate strings of a harp serving as their prelude. both walked at a slow and measured pace, her gardevoir taking the lead while she followed closely behind. each step was punctuated with a single note of music, the rhythmic manifestation of heal pulse exuding from the petite fairy. the energy's coloration was a vibrant green, its aura cool and soothing.

the woman boasted tribal garb, though most of her flesh was bare. she was made decent by handwoven cloth that was firmly secured around her waist and breasts. the freckled and dark flesh which covered her from head to toe showcasing green markings, each appearing curiously elaborate and stylized. the designs were intricate swirls and paintings that had been expertly drawn by her mother, each symbol she proudly boasted tied into the history of her respective tribe.

her hair had been fashioned into braids, the young woman's thick and verdant mane expertly woven into a set of freshly done cornrows. the accessories she wore came in the form of hoop earrings of jade and bangles of a similar make up that fit loosely upon her dainty wrists. a magical leaf manifested as they took their place, swirling gently around them as her gardevoir manipulated their pattern of movement.

her pokemon companion boasted similar markings and ornaments, dripping in decorations that he carried with pride and the barest hint of arrogance as he led his mistress onto the stage. cait continued to play her instrument as the pulsations of the healing spell and the leaves flowed around them in an elegant display of control - silent and respectful as she presented herself not before the judges - but before the tree. there was a reverent air about her as her gaze slid toward the massive life form, her eyes alight with pleasure.

The twinkling mist in the air from above appeared to almost churn. Cutting through the haze with intense speed, a flying beast, and its rider made their presence known. A glowing hue overtook the beast's wings as it preformed a midair Wing Attack to cut through the veil of vapor - only to leave trails of condensation behind its body like a jet. [break][break]

Its rider held on tight as her Dragonite performed a few mid-air stunts, loops and twirls; a great beast boldly challenging the air around itself. At least, it was the sort of idea Nova was trying to convey with this spiraling performance. [break][break]

Finally, Dragonite slowed its speed and landed before the crowd. Nova leaped off and faced the audience. The theme she had gone for was clear. Dressed in a charcoal-colored bodysuit and victorian-style blazer whose fabric overflowed regally, Nova assumed the role of a lone knight. The stocking boots she wore were slightly heeled, allowing her to stand taller and look a little more confidently. [break][break]

But perhaps, the most intricate detail of her outfit was the mask she wore to shield her face. It had openings big enough for the girl's crimson eyes to be seen. Charming decals were embroidered into its fabric. It was good that she hadn't done anything too jarring within her time at Rocket. She doubted this would be enough to truly conceal her identity. [break][break]

Nova took in a silent breath. It had been ages since she'd performed before such a large crowd. A portion of her felt nervous... But that feeling was greatly overhauled by a sense of cheer and euphoria. She'd always been an actress. The stage was where she belonged! [break][break]

Nova held her head up high and announced, "Salutations, everyone! I am the Midnight Cavalier, sole wanderer of the dark! And this is my loyal wyvern." She introduced, motioning to Drayco. He too was adorned in an outfit of his own. He wore dark "armor" along his face, down his body, and at the cuffs of his arms that matched Nova's own look. Similar designs were embroidered into the fabric. [break][break]

The Dragonite gaped its mouth open and let out a Dragon Pulse straight into the air. It was his alternative to firebreathing. Nova stood in front of him so her body may silhouette behind the purple light. [break][break]

"We sincerely hope you enjoy our performance!"

Behind the curtain, Stormy can feel the rumble of the audience, the cheering, the shouting, the excitement and energy. It's intoxicating and nerve-wracking. But out of the two of them, it's Stormy who shifts her weight in anticipation. Apollo stands calmly beside her, his warmth radiating and giving her strength. [break][break]

They take the stairs to stage delicately, the Rapidash's hooves clicking softly as he takes them one by one and without fear. It gives the room an air of anticipation as his clicking hooves reverberate around the room. Soft music takes the stage as they make their appearance and it appears that the drain was still working hard at removing the damp left behind by one of the contestants rain dance.[break][break]

But Stormy is quick to use it to her advantage. The humidity is sticky but it gives both trainer and Pokemon a sheen of sweat, a glow.[break][break]

From her hip she gathers the liberty stick, using it as an extension of her arm. Apollo prances at the sight of it, tossing his head and allowing his grey flames to burst with anticipation. They had practiced this for years, it had become a sign of their bond, of their trust.[break][break]

Without words, Stormy guides Apollo in a beautiful dance, watching as the stallion weaves in and out and tucks his chin, arching his neck and picking up his feet as he prances and dances around her in wide arcs and tight circles. Stormy dances along with him, approaching and retreating. Rain water splashes at her feet, dampening her dress. It arcs in the air and splashes against Apollo's hide as well but it just adds to his sparkle.[break][break]

But as the music picks up and the intensity of their display comes to a head, Stormy and Apollo come together, the stallion facing the crowd and Stormy opening her arms. Over the course of their dance, Apollo had been charging a SOLAR BLADE, the tip of his horn glowing a brilliant green. The rain that he had sprayed up with his feet catch the light and the area appears to sparkle with green energy.[break][break]

Stormy brings her arms up and Apollo rears up, curling his legs and holding the position as the SOLAR BLADE reaches its maximum potential. It reaches to the roof and crashes down across the audience ahead as he lets it drop. The move breaks apart into a thousand sparkling green particles before it reaches the audience, showering them with impossible beauty. It smells like a forest.[break][break]

When the audience would look back to the stage, Stormy and Apollo would both be kneeling side by side, the Rapidash folding down into a perfect bow, horn tip brushing the stage floor.[break][break]

Stormy gets to her feet and opens her arms again, a brilliant smile on her face as she catches her breath.[break][break]

"Thank you for your undivided attention, Littleroot! I am honored to perform for you tonight!"[break][break]

There is a pause, a moment to let silence overtake the stage, settle on the tongue tips of the audience but only barely. Just enough to make a statement, to make it linger in their minds.

Before they can become unsettled and restless in the quiet, pastel colors begin to manifest in the air before them, the veil spreading out in mesmerizing tendrils of colors. Pinks and purples and blues swirl around the area in a barely there hint of color, intensifying as a gust of wind blows through the area, picking up the colors and whirling them around the air. As color and wind mix the sparkling fairy dust becomes apparent, twinkling against the pastel backdrop above the crowd.

It is only when there have been sufficient oohs and aahs that the pokemon in the shadows throws its head, the psycho cut flying from the glowing horn atop its head to disperse the colors and fairy dust into a twinkling rain of color over the crowd. Before it can touch any one of them the wind picks it back up again, returning it to where they make their entrance beneath the cover of color and fairy dust. The pokemon steps out with its trainer, letting the wind build until it breaks and the dust scatters once and for all across the scene before them and the only thing left in the twinkling rain is them side by side in their place on the stage.

The Galarian Rapidsh stands proud beside the man from nowhere. Mane and tail groomed until every strand is perfectly placed, twisted around the black flowers that adorn her, a crown around her horn, a single bundle of petals at each and every hoof. Trailing petals have been plucked from their buds and held against her skin by unseen means to create a flurry of broken flowers across her back. Truly she matches the man at her side as well as he matches her in his white vest with pastel pink embroideries across its surface, sitting over a black button up, the sleeves rolled up to reveal the patterns of black ink in his skin. Black hair is pulled back to reveal the natural beauty on his angular face, standing with the same regal attention to the crowd as his pokemon. Tonight he sports near full adornments, the metal piercings have been picked to accentuate his features subtly, rings adorn his fingers, twinkling with stardust settling in the metals as he steps forward into the falling fairy dust.

But it is the eyes that ought to catch your attention the most, for one is pastel purple and the other a pastel blue.

One hand settles against the top of his stomach, slow and deliberate. He takes his time reaching out with the other, palm upwards in a flourish towards his pokemon. She bows first, displaying her black petaled crown for all too see. He follows after, a formal bow to their gracious audience before the pair take their place and await the next round.

“Are you sure you can pull this off?” Bailey Cooper asked, kneeling down in front of her little contestant.[break][break]

Some people signed up in conjunction with their pokemon—Bailey was the only exception. Dressed in regular attire, she looked plain in this sea of coordinators. This was not her group of people, and she knew that she stuck out like a sore thumb as she adjusted her spheal.[break][break]

Chubs would be alone on the stage.[break][break]

She had nothing to do with this. It had been at the Spheal's insistence that he was entered into this competition, and she had been adamant that he would be best if allowed to perform on his own—without guidance. She had helped him construct his act, had helped him pick out his attire, but that was all that she would allow herself to do.[break][break]

Like a mother, she knew that there were times when you had to let your child go off on their own.[break][break]

If this was what he wanted, then she'd let him. “Remember, you gotta mind the timing. If you're a little bit off, it won't work—” and that was when Chubs would playfully gnaw at her hand, as if telling her to stop with all the worry.[break][break]

“Okay, okay... Piggie Smalls? I think he's ready.”[break][break]

The spoink would surround the spheal in a psychic light.[break][break]

Situated behind the tree, right behind the stage, Chubs the Spheal looked like a cannonball as he engulfed his body in ice; several complex layers building on top of one another to fully enclose the creature from harm. This was no normal ice ball, as it was intended to keep him from harm.[break][break]

Because this would be dangerous.[break][break]

“Godspeed.”[break][break]

And that was when Chubs was catapulted out of the open-roofed theater. At just the right angel, at just the right speed, a lone ball of ice would arch its way through the tight-knit network of white, pale branches.[break][break]

An announcer would speak, “Annnnd next on the roster, we have Bail—wait, sorry folks, name's crossed out... Chubs, the...Spheal?”[break][break]

Spotlights panned to an empty stage, just in time for a whistle to be heard across the crowd; it was akin to a mortar shell being dropped from the sky.[break][break]

Because that's exactly was he did.[break][break]

With a loud, shattering burst of ice and fog, the ice-encased spheal hit the stage with such a force that the ice surrounding him shattered in a brilliant display of refracting lights and snow—petals curling up from the shattered capsule as if he had been a pokemon that just hatched.[break][break]

And he was spouting a perfect little white bowtie as he looked upon the crowd with bright, gleaming eyes.[break][break]

“Waaaaaa!” He waved a little paw, and offstage, everyone would hear the sounds of Bailey Cooper sobbing.[break][break]

within the contest hall of littleroot, it was today that a new contest would begin for the region of hoenn. so far, the contestants were all, in their own way, unique and bedazzling. but once the infamous Bailey Cooper and sir chubs were done, a well-renowned coordinator, predominantly known by their stage name twilight, had been summoned. currently, it was pitch-black. a large screen outside of the contest hall showed what was going on inside for those who missed the allotted entry. to those watching in person or outside, some would recognize the face set to appear.

finally, a spotlight shined from above as one person stood at the center. this person was none other than dawn grandier to some, and to others who truly knew him cadis von klaussner. as of right now he was simply participant, all while dressed within his contest stage garb. in the palm of his left did a pokeball reside within it; that said ball would come to have a ball capsule over it. a sticker that resembled AYAME FUJIWARA's rainbow flower badge was placed atop of the ball capsule.

"bloom, flabebe." with a simple flick of the wrist, the flabebe's ball was thrown toward the crowd. the ball would come to open as chromatically colored petals formed the ring of saturn. the colored petals quickly turned white as their individual colors gathered at the center of their rotation; forming at the center was a body, that body belonging to none other than flabebe!

lights flickered on as the white petals scattered into nothing but simple dust particles. raining over the crowd as flabebe would wave to them all. "aromatherapy," cadis calmly ordered. a scent would come to envelop the stage, the tree, and the people, emanating a soothing feeling from within should they come to catch a whiff of the floral scent. "flabebe is a new partner of mine, and this is their first time partaking in contests. i'm very ecstatic for it to learn so much from the wonderfully talented contestants." a simple head bow, cadis would then exit the stage with flabebe.

AFTER THE INTRODUCTIONS, the tree glows— and grows! The vibrant white trunk and branches creak as the tree flourishes. Thankfully, the stage remains undamaged. However, a pleasant scent or energy seems to be emitting from its bark; perhaps, it is simply the sheer beauty of it.[break][break]

After eyeing the tree with a skeptical stare, Armstrong comes to the microphone again: "BEAUTS. ALL OF 'EM. NEXT FEW ROUNDS ARE TALENT ROUNDS... SO SHOW 'EM WHAT YOU GOT. THIS ROUND'S THEME IS 'GROWTH'."[break][break] He clears his throat as if he is fishing a tumbleweed from it. "OH, AND UH, I FORGOT TA MENTION. FOR YOU FOLKS TUNIN' AT HOME, I HOPE Y'ALL ENJOY THE SHOW." The microphone squeaks, and the feedback whines before tapering off.[break][break]

He walks back to the judge's table as Mr. Mimes psychically move the debris into vents.

a thin spotlight shines down upon the pair, revealing them kneeling before one another with their hands clasped as though they were in the midst of prayer. their attire remained altogether the same, though cait sought to demonstrate a particular attribute that had been inscribed into the art that had been painted upon her flesh.

their hands parted, their palms positioned skyward as a moon blast manifested before her gardevoir's grasp. it appeared as though a great orb of light had been summoned by them both, the vibrant orb that radiated a pale pink shining brightly mere inches from their exposed palms.

it rose above their very heads, remaining centered as it exuded a powerful aura, glow and presence. the lights changed - the area where the festivities were held bathed in darkness. a UV light shone down upon them now and the paint which covered their bodies glowed, vibrant yet not overwhelmingly so.

the pair appeared as two individuals who were being depicted in a cave's painting - representatives of pokemon and human both - whom sought to both worship and gift the hovering orb of light the power of their praise and their unsung song of devotion. her gardevoir rendered the moonblast malleable by utilizing his particular skill set, carefully bending the orb to his will. and by the subtle and clever use of psychic, gardevoir toyed with his creation as though it was naught more than clay.

it molded itself into the shape of a seed; small and insignificant before it gradually changed before the audience. from the seed came the image of a sprouting plant - the creation made large and bright as it gradually evolved. and from that plant came a flower that blossomed brilliantly before their eyes.

"Growth...the hell that mean?" Rex mumbled so that only One could hear, sliding off its back so his face was right next to the Pokemon's head. His eyes flicked around as he had a few seconds to even decipher what that word meant. It was only just then he looked up at the growing tree and was struck, whispering to One before he darted away, "Grow something, anything!" [break][break]

He only paused a few seconds, and thus the crowd just saw a introductory pause, and then his show continued. He spread his hands, and nodded at One, hoping his partner got the idea. [break][break]

One seemed to glare down at Rex, perhaps appearing like the beast was putting on an act of lack of control by its owner. The anger was real, however, it was not directed towards Rex. The cheering had been wonderful, but there was one thing wrong with it. One thing. That Gardevoir and cait alfric had gotten the same amount of noise! They didn't deserve it! What had they done that Rex hadn't done more impressively!? They were powerful. They used two moves at once. Rex could ride on it with no difficulties. How were they not the exalted ones? To share the spotlight with such a little fairy, not even their leader, was unacceptable! [break][break]

Abruptly, the fossil fell to its knees and held itself up with its wings, as if submitting to the human before it. The predator and prey. One knew Rex was both. A gleam showed from One's maw, a growth happening around its fangs. Ice Fang. Supporting itself, One raised its head high, opening its mouth as far as it could go as countless ice shards grew from its maw, gleaming and sparkling. Catching on, Rex raising his own arms uproariously, as if he controlled the beast before him. [break][break]

The icy fangs grew upwards, spiraling as it strained the beast's jaws. It was a simple accident, but in the few seconds of its peak, the Ice Fang resembled some twisted tree. A single predatory eye attempted to single out the littke fairy that had gotten applause, wide and sneering, as if boasting about its own power. One was certain the two of them were more impressive that some little fairy. The strength of its neck, its jaws, and the size of the Ice Fang...they were an intimidating and striking sight. [break][break]

Alas, all came to an end. The Ice Fang started to melt, and One discarded it with a snap of its jaws, shattering the beautiful sight into a million pieces. Rex couldn't hold back, letting out a loud laugh as he beckoned One to its feet, "I'd say we're nearly as impressive as the tree!" [break][break]

Beneath her mask, deep ruby eyes gazed at the spectacular performances, namely Rex Drago's. He was a familiar face amongst the many competitors that had shown up today, and it made Nova glad to see the crowd enjoy his act so passionately. She and the other Rocket competitors may have been here as merely a distraction from what unearthly activities might be happening below, but it needn't mean they abstain from having fun while doing so. Whether the boy spotted it or not, she flashed Rex a smile.[break][break]

Soon, it was Nova's turn to perform. She nodded at her Dragonite. She had a trick in mind. As a fluorescent spotlight shone on the two partners, the redheaded knight jogged back a couple of feet. It would be a daring stunt, but Nova had faith in her partner. His steely gaze cut deep into her soul and Nova beamed. They both offered each other a look of understanding. [break][break]

"Focus, persistence, accuracy! These are all traits a true knight requires!" Nova announced to the crowd. [break][break]

The girl sprinted forward toward the Dragonite. Circular streams of water began to collect at the dragon's tail. Nova's feet kicked off the ground as she performed a great jump, and Drayco caught the ankle of her right leg, hoisting the girl over and presenting Nova above himself like a cheerleader at the top of a tower. Beliving in her partner's strength and balance, while her right leg was being held, she splayed the rest of her arms and legs in an arabesque position. [break][break]

But it didn't end there. Suddenly, the Dragonite tossed Nova high into the air. She executed a midair flip, and was now plummeting down to the ground, hands-first. With the power of a swirling Aqua Tail, like a jet, Dragonite was able to propel his body upward and clasp his paws with Nova's held out hands in time. Now with hands linked with one another, the swirling waters from below span Nova and her Dragonite like a massive top. It was an intricate yet stunning sight as light showers of water cast out from the towering Aqua Tail, spraying the audience in a fine mist. [break][break]

Nova, from her upside-down position, eyed the crowd and explained, "But knight cannot call herself honorable if she doesn't also have trust in her partner! It makes all the difference!"

Their top grew and grew in height before it finally subsided. Dragonite held Nova in his arms and flew back towards the ground before letting her go. She bowed towards the audience. [break][break]
