Having mapped out the Giant Chasm, it was probably only a matter of time before he was tasked with Area Zero as well. So when he had been assigned the task of mapping out Area Zero by his superiors, he hadn't been surprised and had simply nodded as he went to prepare for another venture down into the chasm and Area Zero.

Preparing hadn't taken long, and only a few minutes later, thanks to Rook, he now stood near the entrance of Area Zero where he would meet up with his partner for the mission. Though he hadn't been told exactly who he would be working with.

As she mentioned the size of the place, he nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it is a lot bigger than expected, so stay on guard. It wouldn't be a good idea to get separated in a place like this," Ever pointed out as he pulled a thermos of coffee out of his bag and took a drink. Hopefully, it would help him keep his energy up as they mapped out the Giant Chasm because something told him it would take a while.

Since they were ready, he would start walking, his gaze constantly scanning the area around them for any possible signs of danger. He would also make note of anything that could be used as a landmark as they walked. At the thought of working behind a desk all day, he inwardly cringed. He would go stir crazy if that were the case. He needed to be in motion, to be off helping the Pokémon region. He could imagine just sitting behind a desk doing paperwork. That just had to be torture, not to mention probably didn’t occupy one enough to keep someone from thinking about stuff they would rather not think about.

“Yeah, I definitely don’t envy them. If there ever comes a day where I talk about sitting behind a desk all day, make sure I don’t have a high fever or something, will you? Because I’ll probably be delirious from a high fever if I start talking like that,” he said with a shake of his head.

After that, silence lapsed for a bit as they walked before he asked if there was time to make a bit of a coffee run. He hadn’t been expecting a positive response, so when he was told there was enough time, he was surprised, not that he showed it. Instead, he simply nodded in thanks.

Facing off against the Wingull was harder than it looked. They were more nimble than they appeared. Then the pink-haired woman made things even harder by having her Beautifly use Whirlwind. This immediately caused Ever to grip onto Rook tightly to avoid being thrown off the saddle. Sure, he might be reckless at times, but that didn't mean he wanted to hit the water from this height.

Gritting his teeth, he regained control of Rook and flew at the Wingull, hoping to get the woman's food while the birds were still caught up in the Whirlwind. "Use 'Taunt' on that one," he told the steel bird, pointing to the Wingull in question.

Rook did as asked, causing the affected Wingull to abandon its flock and come at them in a fit of anger. With the Wingull they needed away from the others, he could act. Narrowing his eyes, he pushed through the Whirlwind towards the isolated Wingull, sharply veering to the right and snatching at the food with his left hand.

He was successful in his attempt but was rewarded with a cut on the back of his hand as he managed to get a hold of the woman's grilled squid before he started to make his way back to land.[break]

He winced slightly as Dizzy shook herself, showering him with water. Great, now he was in for an uncomfortable few hours and maybe a bit of pain over the next few days. The wet material of his shirt was sure to rub against his scars, irritating them. Oh well, he would just have to deal with it until he got home.

Ignoring the pain in his leg, he simply gestured that they should continue before walking forward. His pace had quickened slightly upon hearing the distant sound of battle. Hopefully Nyx was doing okay. He knew the Gliscor could protect herself, but he was still worried. Some of the dragon Pokémon that made their home in Meteor Falls could be quite powerful, after all.

Meanwhile, after being ditched by the Dragapult, Nyx decided to track it down again, but this time she would stay out of sight. Tracking it down by emitting invisible sound waves to navigate around any objects that might be in her path didn’t take long, and before she knew it, she had found Zachary, the Abra, and the Dragapult.

After assessing the situation and seeing how much danger there was, Nyx wheeled around and flew off in the direction her trainer was in, without being noticed by anyone in the room, thanks to keeping to the shadows.

Ever hadn’t gone very far when he suddenly saw Nyx coming towards them, immediately making them stop. “Did you find them?” he asked, and upon receiving a confirming nod from the Gliscor, he turned his attention to Dizzy.

“Look, would you be okay if we were to take a ride on Nyx here?” he said, indicating the Gliscor before continuing. “I promise she’s safe. It’ll just be a lot faster for her to take us to where your trainer is if we were to ride on her back than if we were to continue on foot,” Ever explained.

While he waited for some kind of confirmation from the Pokémon, he would check to make sure the saddle was on well enough.

It was while he was doing that that he heard what sounded like a weak cry. Frowning slightly, he told Nyx to stay before going a bit further in the direction they were heading but still within range to keep an eye on Dizzy and Nyx. He came across a Hydrapple that seemed to have collapsed from hunger.

Without hesitating, he took out a banana he had brought with him and started to feed it to the Hydrapple. It wasn’t much, but at least it was something. And it seemed the Hydrapple was grateful enough to nuzzle his hand.

"Glad you’re feeling better," he said, standing up and heading back the short distance to Nyx and Dizzy before realizing the Hydrapple was following him. Blinking down at the Hydrapple, he frowned slightly before taking out a Pokéball. “Do you want to come with me?” he asked, holding the Pokéball out towards the dragon type.

The Hydrapple decided to push the button, causing her to be sucked into the Pokéball.

Once that was done, he turned his attention to the fox Pokémon. “So, do you want to ride on Nyx to get to your trainer faster?” he asked, coming to stand by Nyx’s side.[break] zachary stellar

What he said wasn't recently worthy of such high praise, but he simply nodded. They were ideas that any person could come up with. Trying to dismiss or downplay the praise in any way would just draw attention to him, so he decided to let it be.

The fact that he was willing to put the marine Pokémon first was definitely a relief. It would be a lot easier to remove all the trash from the waterline with an extra set of hands. Of course, it would still be hard with just the two of them, which is part of the reason he asked Jet to lend them a bit of help. That, and he didn't really feel like going for a swim.

"Beats having to swim to go out and get it," he said upon hearing the compliment. Once he was sure Jet was doing as he was told, Ever turned his attention away from the Sharpedo and to the other male. "That's a good way to use your own Pokémon," he mentioned his own Pokémon.

Speaking of Pokémon made him think of his own Pokémon and whether any more of them could help out. The only others he could think of were Corviknight and maybe his Gliscor. "I also have a Corviknight who could see if there's danger from the air, and my Gliscor who could do the same," he said as he started to pick up trash from the waterline and put it in a bag, nodding along with what he said.[break] Titus Bosch

Seeing the injured Mightyena, he immediately held up his hands, palms facing out, to show he wasn't holding anything before slowly starting to approach. As a wild Pokémon, especially an injured one, one could never predict how it might act, so it was best to approach any wild Pokémon with caution.

Seeing no negative reaction from the wild Mightyena, he approached until he was close enough to see the extent of the injury before crouching down. The injury seemed pretty bad, and he wasn't sure if Celestia would be able to heal the full extent of the injury without tiring herself out. So it would be best for Celestia to heal the Mightyena enough that he wouldn't be in as much pain and call in reinforcements from the medical team in Lavaridge Town.

"Do you mind calling this in to the rest of the medical team in Lavaridge? The injury is bad enough that my healer will probably tire herself out trying to heal the full extent of it," he told the other ranger as he took out a Pokéball, releasing a Shiny Galarian Rapidash from its contents.

"Heal him up, but don't overdo it. We'll probably still have to do healing sessions on other injured Pokémon we come across," he told the proud unicorn Pokémon as she lowered her horn towards the Mightyena and started to use Heal Pulse on the Mightyena.[break] zoë crow

Well, there went the idea of coming at him and one of them using teleportation to get in front of him. There had to be other things he could do to ensure the guy from before didn't escape. A way to corner him somehow or catch him off guard in some way so they could apprehend him. Either would work.

Before he could think too much about it, Sterling spoke up with an idea of their own. Yes, they could make it work. He could drive him towards Sterling, and when he thought he was in more trouble than he actually was, that should make him pause long enough to be able to nab him.

"Yes, that should work. Go get in position. It's best to take up a position near an exit because that's definitely where he'll be aiming to go," he said, letting his gaze surreptitiously scan the exits before deciding which exit would be the best to guard, and then telling Sterling about it. "When you head that way, make it look like you're leaving if he's watching, so he thinks I'm the only one present. Then I'll make sure he heads in that direction."

Once the plan had been made, he would walk away from Sterling and wander around for a bit, as if he were looking for someone. Only after he saw that Sterling was in position would he start to make his way towards the guy from before, approaching him at a bit of an angle to drive him towards the indicated exit. "Don't worry about it, not a lot of stuff gets to me," he reassured the older male. Due to his upbringing, very little could offend him. Annoy him a bit, sure, but offend him, no. Life was just too short to be all bent out of shape over stuff people said anyway.

His own attention momentarily turned to the Starz who seemed to like something that Staryu didn't. It was definitely interesting but not enough to ask. Perhaps if he was Absalom, he would ask. The kid's curiosity about stuff that didn't line up with what he knew was legendary, or at least to him it was.

The question drew his attention away from unusual Pokémon, and he shook his head. "No, I'm an only child, thank Arceus for that," he said, muttering the last part under his breath.

While he wasn't a hundred percent sure, he was sure that any sibling he had, whether older or younger, half-siblings, his father would've treated them the same way he treated him. Knowing Volt wouldn't need supervision to deal with the bug Pokémon, he left him to continue fighting while he went to open the door upon hearing a knock on it. Hopefully, it would be someone there to help and not someone who would only end up getting in the way or someone only concerned about all the noise he was hearing.

Opening the door, he was met with a young blonde woman who looked to be a bit older than himself. Before he could even think of greeting her, she was already speaking.

"That's right, they started coming through the windows," he said as he simply inclined his head in a way to greet her before stepping aside to let her inside.

Upon entrance, she would see a few of the bug Pokémon on the ground, conscious but unable to move due to being paralyzed.

"I'm afraid most of my Pokémon are too big to be of much help," he would tell her as Volt continued to hold off the bug Pokémon for as long as he could.[break] annalise henderson

Upon reaching the stretch of forest, it seemed they had finally reached their first location, if the fact they were stopping was anything to go by. Hammond would, a few seconds later, confirm this fact before ordering Griselda to get to work, causing the only woman of the group to grumble, but she did as she was told.

He watched as she released a Dugtrio and a Loudred from their Pokéballs and couldn't help but feel a small pang of sympathy for the Dugtrio, not that he showed it. As a Ground type, the Dugtrio would really not like the cold, after all, it was more often than not used to a hotter climate and weak against Ice type moves, as most Ground type Pokémon were.

Looking at the two, he could tell neither were too pleased with their new environment. Unfortunately, aside from knowing Loudred was a Normal type, he didn't know much about it to know how hard it was for the Loudred to be in the cold. Perhaps he should ask Absalom the next time he saw him for some facts about Loudred. Or maybe not. He had a feeling he would get more information than he asked for.

As the Dugtrio started to dig and the Loudred started to emit sound waves, Yannick spoke up, cutting off his observations. Turning his gaze onto the older male, he listened to what the older male had to say. He wasn't sure what all the hype was about, but to each their own.

Whatever explanation Yannick was given was cut off as Griselda piped up, singing her Pokémon's praises. "That sounds impressive. None of my Pokémon can do that. Though I do have a Gliscor who can use sound waves to detect obstacles. She's usually the Pokémon I send ahead to scout if I'm in a cave," he explained, not bothering to return the smile. Smiling just wasn't something he did. Of course, for obvious reasons, Nyx would be staying inside her Pokéball.

At the question, he nodded. "That's really right, kind of a side job I have," he said before continuing. "And yes, I rarely leave home without it," he told him as he took off his pack and pulled out his camera before putting the pack back on. That way, he wouldn't accidentally forget it. With how paranoid he could be, it was highly unlikely, but he wasn't about to take any chances.

Hanging the strap around his neck, he raised the camera to his eye. "When you're ready," he said before backing up a bit and starting to take pictures when he got confirmation the older male was ready.[break] YANNICK SOLETTE
