An Oranguru mean mugs you as you enter the establishment. Maybe it's born that way, maybe it's getting whiffs off your psychic presence. After a moment of awkward leering, it plops off from the podium it rests at, using its arm to heave itself forward after gesturing to you with an outstretched hand, beckoning you to follow.

You are eventually INSTRUCTED to enter a room, and the Oranguru shuts the door behind you, all in silence. Whatever its problem was with you, it's over now. You can get on with the interview in peace... Only to realize those, too, are conducted by PSYCHIC-type pokemon.

Best not have had any ulterior motives!

Her setup is quite simple; a set of questions and a few hypothetical scenarios.

She doesn’t have many questions; why do you want to work here, do you have experience with taking care of younger Pokemon, do you have any abilities that are useful in case of emergency? But she isn’t simply judging their answers: she’s judging their more subtle cues, their emotional states to know if they’re safe.

She turns down a Centiskorch who answered the first question with a “I just need something until I earn my doctorate.” She turns down a Wigglytuff who answered the second with “Does taking care of Pokemon my trainer kidnapped count?” (and promptly reported said trainer). She turns down a Kabutops who lied in the third question, claiming she could heal with her blades.

She turns down a Drifblim who believed the answer to “what should you do if a Pokemon is injured in your care” was “carry them off to the great beyond”. She turns down a Slaking who fell asleep as she tried to ask what it would do if it came across an intruder. And she turns down a Hitmonlee who believed the answer to one pokemon bullying the other was “beat the bully into unconsciousness.”

She also turns down a Mr. Mime who answered every question flawlessly with a smile, but she sensed nothing but seething hatred from through the entire interview.

It isn’t until her eighth that she finds her first appropriate candidate: a Weezing, who’d learned how to take care of Pokemon from her trainer and was ready to start working on her own. Vibes sensed nothing but honest eagerness from her, and she even knew how to apply proper first aid in case of injury.

But that was far from the last candidate she’d be going through today, and it was time for the next one.

A matching set of Indeedee greet you at the entrance, letting you inside the daycare with fingers against their lips to indicate silence. The floor is littered with little beds and blankets of all sizes, each containing a baby Pokémon settled down for naptime. The psychic caretakers carefully pick their way through the room without disturbing its inhabitants.

It’s the female that beckons you into an empty room with a Follow Me, while her partner gently closes the door behind you both. She holds a soundly-sleeping Pichu in one arm, while the other hand is pressed firmly against her hip, foot tapping impatiently as she waits for you to make your case. Better do it quietly though, something tells you if the little mouse wakes up, you won’t be leaving this interview alive.

The alien pokemon watches with interest as a subject comes into the room, its eyes flashing at the human who was instructed to come in. Already it could hear the voice of it's trainer that always said that there was to be no manipulation of Rockets outside his word. Yet these people were not Team Rocket. They were nobodies with no future if they had to be tested for a simple Babysitter job. [break][break]

It's eyes flash faster and faster as it watches the human cringe, unsure if this was how the 'interview' was suppose to go. By the time they were let out, they seemed to be the perfect subject for the babysitting job. Almost as if programed for it to be their only objective in life. This was what they were looking for right? [break][break]

the delphox wasn't in the greatest mood.

the office was barely the work environment it wanted to be. still, it complied with the job. elements of magic room could be detected when the next interviewee goes in for its turn. surprised, shocked, and other things, he is prompted to sit down as per the instructions given before he entered.

the fire-type sighs heavily before its eyes glow white. it consults its future sight as it determines whether the person before it was capable of the job or not.

the resume is burned with a small ember of flame when the delphox makes its decision.

soul, katherine's pokemon, needs no instructions on how to ensure the quality of the pokemon it had to test. instead of peering into the future, it simply grants the required skills and a good morale compass through the usage of its SKILL SWAP. sure, the effects won't last very long, and this wasn't the most safe way to fulfill its role, but...

The second Hatterene was quieter than the first. Much more reserved. She kept towards the back of the room, her judgement hidden behind a pair of icy eyes.

When allowed inside, you're given a sheet of white card stock. Inscribed are a series of short multiple choice questions. Each answer was met with either a light hum or a suspicious hmm, though, the pokemon's facial features never changed.

Eventually, you returned the finished quiz. The Hatterene nodded, accepted the sheet of paper, then returned it with a 4 letter word scratched across it with sharp red ink.

ONE OF THESE POKEMON IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS. It could care less whether or not you’re fit for the job. In fact, the only concern the Pokemon has is greeting you with an ecstatic ‘wobbuffet’!

Fernando’s Pokemon is all smiles and squinty eyes, similar to its trainers in some regards while also a complete opposite in others. The exit interview is the only SAFEGUARD applicants will find as their ferried into the daycare.

Congratulations, you pass.
