GYM INFORMATION

The Lilycove Gym is located in the corporate headquarters of the VANTAGE, a rival news broadcasting station of the Hoenn News Network. It is a commercial complex that houses several other facilities managed by the Vantage Editor-in-Chief-slash-Gym Leader Selena Desmarais. The site is a large parcel of land a few walks outside the city’s urban center where establishments like offices, performance stages, movie houses, studio galleries, apartments, daycare centers, restaurants, cafés, a resort, and a pokémon garden can be found.[break][break][break]

The gym is located at the Lilycove shores, overlooking the Mossdeep island and the northeastern Hoenn seas. The entrance to the gym is marked by a giant monument of a delphox holding its blazing staff, which shines whenever sunlight hits it. It doubles its function as Selena’s studio where she spends most of her days trying to fit the puzzles from her stories.[break][break][break]

Upon entrance, a large hall is found where challengers can duel her. Battles with extremely large pokémons like wailord will take place at the beach. On the other hand, challengers who prefer the non-traditional one will be locked up in the hall’s adjacent chambers in a mystery-room style challenge, where they have to solve for cases by investigating clues that can be found in the room.[break][break][break]

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

The Mystery Badge tests the trainer and their pokémon’s teamwork by accomplishing tasks and confronting challenges in their intuition.[break][break][break]

TAKING THE CHALLENGE

CHALLENGE PROCEDURES

The Vantage Headquarters is bounded by two gates: one from Fortree and one on the seaside. These gates require passersby to submit their League ID to authorities guarding the complex.[break][break][break]

• IDENTIFICATION » Visitors are required to present identification at the complex’s entrance. This will account for a Vantage ID Pass which tourists and challengers alike can use to access the different amenities in the site. Rocket members can enter the premises, granted that they do not reveal themselves as members of the organization and have identification items to prove it. Rockets whom Selena have met and identified as members, however, will find it difficult to issue a challenge unless their fake identities totally resemble different personas.[break]
• CHALLENGE FORMAT » Challengers can choose between a traditional or non-traditional challenge format. Traditional battles correspond to single battles (2v2), double battles (4v4), or triple battles (6v6; rotational or standard). Non-traditional corresponds to a mystery-room themed challenge which will be explained further in the CHALLENGE FORMAT section.[break]
• POKÉMONS » A list of pokémons’ abilities and movesets should be indicated prior to the challenge. A diversified team is encouraged.[break][break][break]

CHALLENGE FORMAT

TRADITIONAL battles may be conducted in the following ways:

• SINGLE » Both trainer and the gym leader will use two pokémons each in a singles battle. First to defeat the opponent’s all two pokémons wins.[break]
• DOUBLE » Both trainer and gym leader will use four pokémons each in a double battle, two pokémons at a time (both attack each turn). First to defeat the opponent’s all four pokémons wins.[break]
• TRIPLE » Both trainer and gym leader will use six pokémons each in a triple battle, three pokémons at a time and may choose between ROTATIONAL or STANDARD mode (Rotational means only one pokémon can attack at a turn, while in Standard, all three pokémons attack at a turn.) First to defeat the opponent’s all six pokémons wins.[break][break][break]

YOU WILL SUCCEED if you defeated all of Selena’s pokémons. You will fail if Selena defeats all your pokémons.[break][break][break]

NON-TRADITIONAL challenge is a mystery room challenge. Acting as Selena’s interns-for-the-day, challengers are required to recreate an investigation scene and identify the answer to a certain problem. Provided with clues from the case, the challengers are allowed to bring one of their pokémons to help them unravel the mystery (this pokémon might help them get the critical information they need!) Selena will test the challenger’s deductive skills and reasoning and determine if they are worthy of the badge.[break][break][break]

YOU WILL SUCCEED if you finish the mystery room challenge with Selena and are able to deduce the answer from the given clues. You will fail if you ou are not able to deduce anything from the clues provided.[break][break][break]
