It was actually kind of concerning how light of a sleeper his Houndoom was. Max was a serious Early Bird, always getting up early no matter how late at night the Houndoom stayed up. So he hoped perhaps this could get him some answers on it. But no matter what happened, the Houndoom never slept for too long.

Apparently it literally had the ability Early Bird.

That -was- actually rather concerning.

Novak nodded, and whispered to Rafflesia, "Good girl. One more time, please."

The little Paras seemed bored at best. She made a chuffing sound before releasing a cloud of sleep-inducing spores, but this time, instead of them targeting the dummy that the scientists used to collect samples, the cloud went straight towards the scientists.

Ah, well. "Help!" Novak called, catching one scientist as she slumped backwards. That was the danger of working with sleep moves, after all.

"Rafflesia, we're gonna have to talk about this..."

As you stare into its topaz orbs, they elucidate the exhaustion deep within, the numbness to the external stimuli happening all around you. Your mind is alight with neurons, each one firing off as part of a larger array, forming your collective senses and cognitive self. The efforts are taxing on your conscious, and you feel yourself slipping away from the reins as you surrender control for comfort and bliss. Gardevoir has tricked you into a false sense of fatigue you cannot ignore, as the euphoria of giving in overwhelms all reason...

A researcher takes notes, assessing that Hypnosis does indeed involve psychically altering the brain chemicals and sensory system, afflicting a sudden and heavy sense of exhaustion and drowsiness.

What's more, they've narrowed down the specific regions of the brain that are affected. There are still many more variables that remain to be accounted for as the trials proceed, but they are satisfied with the current results.

Eventually they bring out a different subject, a pokemon whose ability has been of some interest to these researchers. Once more they ask Gardevoir to use its Hypnosis on the subject.

To the pokemon and trainers alike, the outcome isn't all too surprising. Adrian shrugs when it doesn't work. They did just say it had vital spirit, right...? He's not too sure why the researcher's eyes light up at the feedback on their equipment, but whatever's being measured, it must be indicating something the researcher has thus far only been able to guess at or hypothesize.

Hypnosis.

Wyn listened to what the scientist had to say, all of it seemed like mumbo jumbo to him. Nor was it much of a mystery to them either. Many of their techniques affected the mind, it was a simple as that so there didn't seem to be much reason for study. Though his trainer asked him if he could do as the scientist say as long as he deemed them as harmless so the Gallade figured he'd give it a shot as they all seemed just that, harmless. [break][break]

The psychic pokemon watched as they hooked up a pokemon with some wires to the brain before asking him to use his attack. Quick and effective is the way his trainer taught him to be so his eyes flashed red making the other pokemon do so as well as they were quick to fall asleep with HYPNOSIS. There job done. [break][break]

"Umm... could you do that again... but slower?" one of the examiners ask and Wyn just crossed his arms and tilted his head in confusion. "If you can prolong the attack a bit.... please?" This was going to be a much longer task that he thought.

on command, wigglytuff went to sleep.

a few minutes later, she woke up, raising an eyebrow. she'd been doing this for a while now, and she never really... got why? it was just sleeping. every pokemon did it.

in the meantime, a handful of scientists were ooh-ing and aah-ing because apparently, the wigglytuff didn't notice it was getting hit by status effects, uneffective attacks, weak attacks, the lot of it, all while sleeping. even more, shekept healing it back up.

but wigglytuff didn't know that. all she knew was that she woke up sore sometimes, but she could sleep it off and feel better.

in any case, a scientist indicated for her to do it again, and she just blinked and obliged.

zzzzzz.

'Babysaur' was whatever the opposite of a handful was. "One more time Baby. SLEEP POWDER." Easy to work with eager to please and getting bigger better and stronger every day, he was an ideal option for the insomnia research being conducted.

In the case of his viable move SLEEP POWDER, the science had already been done. The move caused the bulb on his back to disperse a thin cloud. Inside it, was stored a kind of particulate that chemically induced sleep in all manner of modern day fauna.

What was more worth study was how one dispersing seemed to be a solution to induced sleep in animals of many varying sizes and shapes. Even pokémon of the most radical nervous systems could not resist the effects SLEEP POWDER.

It wasn't without noting that not all subjects remained asleep for the same amounts of time nor could all sleep through the same kinds of jarring stimulus. There was still power in the fact that it worked with such sweeping success at all.

the lycanroc sits in a room to be observed by scientists working on a project. he waits for something to happen, as he was promised to, but moments pass without anything else happening.

before long, the rock-type starts to pace impatiently in the room. traces of sleeping agents have been introduced to induce sleep, alongside elevator music, asmr and a recorded lecture about philosophy, but nothing seems to keep the lycanroc down.

as much as they test its vital spirit, nothing seems to break it.

The owl comes alive on demand. When prompted by its handlers, the bird roosts on the nearest perch-like object. As if in contemplative thought, the bird tilts its head, staring at the subject with mild interest. It repeats the motion in opposite directs several times before its eyes start to dilate. A soothing purple light ignites and the Pokemon’s iris lull the subject into an insidious dream.

“Brr.”

The Pokemon coos once the test subject is put to sleep. It too falls asleep not long after.
