THE HOENN STAR TOURNAMENT starts with an earnest rush as participants fill the beach with great excitement. Trainers from all over the world greet each other with an exchange of glances—the bare minimum to issue a challenge. Battles are fought and the city devolves into a controlled chaos that deceives its inhabitants into forgetting the woes of last year. For the first time in what seems to be forever, Hoenn is truly alive.

As the opening ceremony comes to a close, competitors are dismissed to mingle as they see fit. Many discuss their battles with their friends while others get to know their opponents better. People from different backgrounds and all personalities find a common interest in battling as people flock to spectate matches in progress.

Around and within the stadium, colourful stalls are set up with the sweet aroma of french fries and popcorn. Merchandise of trainers are also sold, including heavy promotion from the THE LEAGUE for the AQUA INITIATIVE and its trainers. Of course, posters and graphics of Hoenn's Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and the Champion can be seen draped across the walls alongside famous figures such as THE POKKENGER.

OOC NOTE:

This is a casual MEGA THREAD that you can participate in as the tournament stretches on. Feel free to throw your character in here and engage with other players in a preset environment. Enjoy the SLICE OF LIFE interactions between characters as you follow up with the plot hooks you create during the event.

At predetermined points, or as the thread loses steam, a moderator will change the time of day and setting. Additional prompts may appear depending on player actions and tournament progress.

As an added bonus, this thread will count for curries!

Beaches and battles and bods, oh my!

Speaking of bods, Sam likely didn't look himself on the hot summer day that began the Hoenn Star Tournament. He'd just signed himself up as a participant and was now just chilling on the beach with a lack of shirt and no shoes. Enjoying the breeze.

He didn't have a water type, not yet, so it wasn't like he could even escort anybody down to the beach. As a matter of fact, Sam was a bit oldschool given where he'd just moved from. Kanto's restrictions on the freedom of Pokémon and when and where they were allowed out of their ball usually depended on damage control. So mostly routes.

But to see so many Pokémon on the beach?? He wondered if most places in Hoenn had some form of Pokémon insurance...

While pondering, he dipped his head back to take a drink of the carbonated beverage in his hand.

Eva slipped the sunglasses over her head while she peered forward to inspect the poster that depicted all of Hoenn’s Gym Leaders. It was in impressive and diverse bunch. When you saw them all lined up next to each other it was easy to appreciate that. She was surprised Zac Ramsay wasn’t holding a CharjaCola.

“Science isn’t sexy enough for a poster, I guess,” Eva laugh playfully to the Gallade that trailed behind her before spinning on her heals and taking a quick peek at the booths around, “How about a snack before we get to battling, eh?” Blade nodded in agreement.

"Nothing sexier that science!" Zac stated factually, by way of a hello. He grinned at the doctor before taking a big sip of Charja-Cola. In his other hand he carried a shopping bag overflowing with action figures and posters, most of them of The Pokkenger. "Can you believe that they'll just GIVE you this stuff if you're in AQUA?" He shook his head in amazement and took another sip before pulling a cola out of the pocket of his board shorts and offering it to Eva. "I didn't bring any snacks, but would you like a drink?"

Zac Ramsay caught her by surprise. The doctor spun around with a shocked and appreciative smile, “I totally agree, Zac!” she confirmed with a nod – there was nothing sexier than science, “So then where’s my poster?!” she asked playfully, huffing and motioning towards the stand she was just scrutinizing. Her eyes drifted to the large bag he was hauling around, “What on earth is all this stuff?!” she laughed, stepping closer to inspect the action figure closest to the top, “I want a Zac action figure!” Was she included in the whole AQUA thing? Maybe.

“Oh! Sure, thank you,” Eva graciously accepted the Charja-Cola, “I’ll be honest with ya, this is my first one,” she grinned before taking a sip. Her lips smacked together as she contemplated the flavor, “It’s . . . pretty good! How’d you get wrapped up in this stuff anyway?” Eva had seen him promoting it, but she didn’t get the full story.

Chu-e was here for one reason and one reason alone- that merch. He already had a small bag filled with a few plush of Zac Ramsay and glitch maverick. He had thought about grabbing one of John Sullivan, too, but he wasn't sure how the teen would react to a grown man having a plushie of him. At least he knew that Zac and Glitch would probably find it as funny as he did.

Bubbles, his Snom, was resting on the top of his head and the only reason he wasn't dying a heat death in the sun. Bubbles was fine, nice and cool with a pair of strawberry sunglasses on his face to match his trainer's aesthetic.

As Chu-e was looking through a binder of trading cards, some claiming to be signed, he wondered vaguely where Leon Vercetti had gotten off to. Hopefully he hadn't thought this beach was a nude beach and gotten himself arrested.

Eris clutches gently at Chu-e Choi's clothes, staring at the sum of cash he'd just handed to her. In her few years of living, she's only had bits of spare change handed to her to buy groceries and snacks, the memories of raiding a sweet store still fresh in her mind despite the time that's passed. Never in her life has she been put in charge of financial issues, nor been told that she can get whatever she wants and it's shown rather clearly with how she tries to slip the biggest notes back into his pocket.

"You can keep these ones, so you can buy yourself a whole lot of sweets and stuff!" Pocketing the rest of the change, Eris signals for Chu-e to lean down. "Make sure that you don't get bullied by anyone! And if someone does bully you, you can always call for me!"

With that, she gives him one final hug and slips in a final 'I love you', bouncing away into the crowd with her trusty caretaker, Reiner. Of course, everything feels a little different now as compared to her previous few days of weariness and stress. Now that she's been reunited with Chu-e, it feels like nothing can go wrong! She's even got a little disguise going on with how she's dyed her hair pink, but not everyone seems to have fallen for the trick... At least, not those who seem close enough to be called friends and loved ones.

Or you know, maybe she's just giving it away with how often she hugs people she recognises.

Her pocket rustles oddly, a quiet chirp coming from within as Eris carefully sticks her hand in, only to come into contact with a cold, liquid-like substance that she knows all too well.

"Mercury, not the coins please..." She whispers, salvaging whatever's left from its little snack time and moving into her other pocket. "You gotta stay out of sight if you don't wanna sit in a pokeball."

The Meltan chitters then falls silent, strangely still as it liquifies itself into a tiny puddle. Perhaps, it's throwing a tantrum. Eris can't quite tell when it comes to this little creature, but surely she'll find out in due time over a few more bonding sessions. Instead, her attention drifts over to a certain person in the crowd, her eyes shining bright as she begins to pick up the pace and rushes to tackle her with a hug.

“Give me all the money in your wallet.” An object was pressed into the lower back of Chu-e Choi , someone having snuck up behind him with expert stealth. “Did I scare you?” Leon chuckled slightly as he moved around them and into their view. “I got us some drinks, I wasn’t about to spend all day on the beach sober.” A hand extended to deliver a Pina Colata into the hands of his boyfriend, reaching up to adjust his sunglasses once the hand was freed of the burden.

“I thought Eris was coming with you, bellissimo?” Leon didn’t see the adopted child anywhere around, only the plethora of plushy Hoenn Gym Leaders. “Was there anything specific you wanted to do? I haven’t been to a festival since I left Pasio. Kind of strange to be here without my sister.”

Leon met up with Chu-e.

Chu-e only tenses for a moment. Then when he realizes it's Leon Vercetti he sighs and turns around to steal a quick kiss from the other man.

"I gave her some money and told her to meet us back here later. Figured she didn't want to see us being gay." Taking the offered drink, Chu-e took a long sip before wrapping an arm around the other.

"Want to risk our lives on those portable carnival rides they brought? I thought I saw a Gravitron and a Gut Buster." He leaned in closer, trying to get hip to hip. "Oooooor, we could make out on the Ferris Wheel?"

Eva’s conversation with Zac Ramsay was interrupted, in the best way, by a familiar, young voice. Her gaze shifted from the giant red head in front of her to the small child that was running towards her with arms wide open. The doctor’s face lit up with a bright smile at the sight of Eris Halla, “Oh hey there!” she cooed, crouching down to meet the child at her level. The arm not holding the Charja Cola extended and wrapped Eris in a big hug. She rocked side to side gently, “It’s good to see you, Eris! Hello Reiner,” she cast the feline a look from over Eris’s shoulder, “Are you having fun so far?” she asked as she stood back up to take another sip of cola. Her eyes scanned the crowd quickly, was she here alone?

Crowds were not Jayden's favorite thing and yet, more often than not, he found himself on the bad end of them. In today's case, however, it had been a suggestion from his doctors — do something low effort, low energy. Jayden had no choice but to listen. After all, it had not been all that long ago that he had split open his wounds from overexertion... Cillian Quinn had not been happy. To be fair, neither had Jayden.

[break][break] Dmitri's words still struck him: There is nothing worse than failure, Mischa.

[break][break] While not as naked as samuel carter , Jayden was a bit more bare-skinned than he normally was. Wearing nothing but colorful beach shorts - something he'd found from the sub's Lost And Found department - and an unbuttoned dress shirt, the black-haired boy traversed the beach in flipflops. The majority of his scars had healed, with the exception of the ones hidden well by his jacket, and the cool, salty air on his skin felt sort of nice.

[break][break] Caught up in his thoughts, Jayden was unprepared when a NPC-Type-Of-Character approached him, flailing her pamphlet at his face and asking him for a donation.

[break][break] The poor boy was caught offguard -- social settings were not his strong suit. Luckily, it seemed that his Umbreon was destined to save him — she dashed for the closest, least threatening person she could find. A dark-haired boy not unlike her own master, and then immediately barked in his direction, gesturing towards Jayden and that horrible NPC-Saleswoman.

Woohoo! Event social things~~

So, maybe signing up for a battle tournament wasn’t the smartest idea that Tadashi had ever had? This stuff was no joke, as he’d come to realize, the most serious trainers in the region and then some were here for this stars tournament… But if he didn’t qualify, they wouldn’t have let him sign up, right? Tadashi knew that he was far from the most experienced battler out there, but he knew a thing or two… That might be able to get him a win or two… It was a learning experience if anything, being able to learn more about battle strategy and how to work with his Pokemon, so at least there was that.

For now though, Tadashi definitely did want to partake in and enjoy the festivities of this festival that was set up for the participants, there was stuff everywhere, and he was eager to kind of exist and maybe even be included in this space for trainers and competitors. Walking around with Cassio, Tadashi just listened around to the excitement of the tournament beginning, and maybe he’d catch word of a battle technique here and there that could help him out.

An umbreon approaching him certainly hadn't ever been the strangest thing to happen to him -- he'd talked to what he'd thought was a corpse before only to find out the man had staged his death to get away from his wife but leave her with everything so he could start his 'pokémon adventure' fresh. But certainly it was odd to have an umbreon approach him on a beach and look a bit ... worried? And almost desperate.

"I don't have any poffins on me if that's what you're after."

It was admittedly a beautiful umbreon, well kept, and Sam realized after a few seconds that the umbreon needed his assistance, so he stood and walked wherever the umbreon would lead him.

Once he heard the saleswoman and saw the poor trainer trapped in her NPC-Smash-The-A-Button worthy rant, he gave a frown, and approached. Without much thought or warning, he wrapped an arm around the trainer's lower waist and smiled slowly at the saleswoman.

"Hey man," he sounded like he was actually friends with the guy he was randomly trying to act casual with. "You're gonna miss the BBQ if you don't hurry up."

Was there even a BBQ? He didn't know, but the saleswoman got the hint, and he was able to turn and walk away from her with a small sigh and the new stranger in hand.

"Sorry, but your umbreon insisted I help."
