“Erm,” was her way of saying hello. “I am Katherine.”

Boo, the Gengar she arrived with, remained hidden and obscured by the elite four’s own shadow. From time to time, if someone was particularly observant, they’d notice a pair of red eyes glaring at them from underneath the woman’s shadow.

Eris Halla was really the only familiar face among the crowd, outside of Champion kyle lopez and someone he vaguely recognized from newspapers as FERNANDO SILPH .

Locke eagerly returned the young girl’s wave, moving a bit closer to the group that had already formed around her. While he was careful not to intrude on their conversation, he didn’t miss the heavy Kantonian accent from the dark-haired boy around his age, making his chest bloom with a rush of warm nostalgia.

They flushed a bit as the room eventually focused on them, dipping their head respectfully as they introduced themselves. “Ah, hello. I’m Locke, and my friend here is Free-Free.” The Butterfree beside them gave a curious trill at being addressed, having spent the last few minutes peering distractedly around the room.

The idea of just, hanging around and trying to find the murderer in a room of unfamiliar people at first had her a bit on edge. However, with the sight of people she absolutely recognized, including Hideo Kino, Eris Halla, and even John Sullivan, she couldn't help but let out a soft breath and relax. Sure, they might be the secret killer, but at least it wouldn't be as awkward anymore with people she considered friends around.[break][break]

"Hey Eris," She'd eagerly give the young girl a hug back, as gentle as ever. "I haven't, actually. But it does sound fun. How you been holding up, dear?" Even as she spoke, she'd quickly give Doug the fistbump back he offered.[break][break]

Sure enough, Ruby's attention would be stolen by the champion himself here playing, kyle lopez. She supposed even people in the highest branches of the League had time to kill having fun too, but it was honestly a bit surprising how often she brushed shoulders with them. [break][break]

"Ruby. A pleasure to see you all again. And uh, to meet all of you who I haven't yet." Sure enough, her Oranguru stood posed at her side, his fan slowly brushing in front of his face as he watched and waited, ever so cautious of his surroundings in this silly game.

Cardamom instinctively found himself gravitating towards the people he was somewhat more familiar with, grinning at both Ruby Walker and John Sullivan as he moved towards their group. "Hey guys!" he called cheerfully. "Sticking together sounds like a good idea, I think-there's only one killer, so they can't get us if we're in a bigger group, right?"[break][break]
He blinked a little when Hideo Kino brought up Secret Zoroark. "Oh yeah, I've played it with my family a few times. Man, my mom's actually kind of an expert at it, you know? She's really good at acting innocent!" He chuckled a little. "Though I don't think I've really inherited her trickery skills."[break][break]
Even as he bantered with the other kids, his glance also drifted towards FERNANDO SILPH. Right...that asshole. When he commented about having a meeting to attend soon, the boy privately and quickly stuck out his tongue at the CEO's back. Hopefully the killer wouldn't be nice enough to accommodate that request.

“Well, technically, all but one of us are doing this together, but the killer does their own thing,” she replied to what she overheard of John Sullivan . That was the weird kid from the tournament, wasn’t it? The one just randomly handing her a badge? Yeah, that was him.
He would probably die first. Well, she hoped so, that would be ironic, after all. But, for now, she just decided to move on, lightly gravitating towards Cillian Quinn , or, well, whatever he was currently calling himself. She definitely had no right at all to complain about people living under assumed names. That was pretty much her whole shtick.

Other than that though, she simply observed everyone, trying to figure out whether there were any suspicious movements going on. The killer was probably not tipping them off so easily, but a girl could hope, right?

WARNING: DANGER

THE KILLER HAS STRUCK.

Violet light blossoms from psychic-type Pokemon, illuminating the path ahead as you and the other players begin to explore your new environment. Everyone is quick to discover a long hallway filled with different doors-- if they are tested, you'll find that most are locked, sealed by dim and defunct keycard readers.

But not all of them.

Crreeeeeak. A door at the end of the hall drifts open as Cardamom Bliss passes by, tempting him with the unexplored. A cool breeze from the other side stirs his clothes, whispering promises of sweet, fresh air. For a moment the boy can glimpse a well-furnished hotel room within.

The hair on Absol's spine suddenly stands on end and the Disaster Pokemon has time to let out a warning cry before something lashes from behind the door, ensnaring both trainer and Pokemon and whipping them into the room beyond.

The door slams shut.

As you stand agape, a clatter from further down the hall startles you. An unused Pokeball rolls past and you turn in time to see alexander silph suffer a similar fate as he is yoinked down the hallway as if pulled on the end of a rope. You hear a terrible crash, and then a series of unusual thudding noises.

CARDAMOM BLISS and ALEXANDER SILPH have been KILLED.

"Two Contestants have been eliminated!" The clear woman's voice emanates from the speakers again, sounding perfectly calm and self-assured. The announcement does little to soothe everyone's frayed nerves. "What's the saying again-- only the good die young?"

STAGE ONE

Investigating the scene of Cardamom's death yields nothing, save for a dark stain on the carpet and places where the thick layer of dust has clearly been disturbed. You can assume the boy has been moved to a waiting room somewhere to relax while watching the rest of the dramatic Mastermind! Death Game! Contest.

The room is luxurious, but the windows have been sealed off completely from the inside. It's a shame-- something tells you it would have been a remarkable view.

Alexander's trail, however, seems more complicated. The hallway terminates in a double-door elevator. Its lights and panels are dark, like everything else in this arena, but the doors are open as if beckoning the contestants inside.

The trail of the third Silph leads to the left, leading to an unlit stairwell. If you shine a light down into the blackness, you'll see something dark and glistening layered thickly on the steps. Someone-- or something-- doesn't want you to go this way. Of course, that's up to you.

The elevator seems inoperable, but there's a crack in the floor. How did that happen? If you work together, you might be able to break through and open up the elevator shaft. Then it's just a straight shot to the first floor! REQUIRES Any move with a Base Power Cumulative 300 in rolls	The stairway is unobstructed, but the steps themselves seem to have been greased by an unknown substance. Blood?! A lighter touch is required for this task if you wish to navigate down the many flights of stairs. REQUIRES Any move with no Base Power Cumulative 300 in rolls

If the players fail to complete at least one of the group tasks by the end of the round, the KILL NUMBER pool will be HALVED starting next round as the killer closes in and gains more opportunity. For example, if the pool was 1-20, it will be reduced to 1-10.

The Killer may or may not choose to contribute to the Group Tasks.

For Stage One, choose one of the two GROUP TASKS and use an applicable Pokemon move. Please roll with your post. It may be a good idea to keep track of the current group total as you go!

Locke leapt near-out of their skin as the game claimed its first victims. “Uh, they’re fine right? Right?” Maybe they should’ve taken their low tolerance for horror into account before signing up for this.

They let the others take the lead while their heart slowed down to a reasonable pace, until at last the group reached their next destination. Locke frowned at the elevator floor. Free-Free didn’t have any moves powerful enough to help break through, so instead they turned their attention to the stairs.

After letting the gears turn in his head for a moment, he lit up with an ”Oh!”, turning to his butterfly companion and pointing down the middle of the stairwell. “Set up a String Shot up here to down there!” Free-Free enthusiastically obeyed, firing a line of web where his trainer had indicated, and releasing the other end on the opposite wall leaving a taut, white line from the top of the stairs to the bottom.

“If we hold on to this while we go down, slipping shouldn’t be a problem.” He demonstrated their idea to the rest of the group by giving the conjured rope a few firm tugs, pleased that it seemed to hold his own weight. Those without gloves might be a bit hesitant to touch the sticky substance, but it would serve as a functional railing nonetheless.

"Only the good die young."

This did not instill hope in Hideo.

He heard his fellow Secret Zoroark aficionado Cardamom Bliss get taken away by...something. And it sounded like someone else had suffered the same fate. "Note to self: avoid suspicious doors," Hideo mused aloud.

A quick assessment by his Beheeyem told him there wasn't any trace of Cardamom in the room, save for a stain on the carpet. Hideo didn't plan on entering that room and meeting a similar fate, so for him, it was time to check the other person's demise.

And sure enough, they found something useful; an elevator. Completely disregarding his previous caution about suspicious doors, Hideo would press one of the buttons...and quickly learn the door wasn't working.

But there was a neat crack he felt under his doot. It wasn't too big, but it did give him an idea: maybe they could find something under there? "Let's try opening this up," Hideo suggested out loud. "Elga, see if there's something you can about it."

His Beheeyem took a look at the crack, assessing it from several angles. Once he was content, he'd kneel down, his body covered in a purple light-

-And Zen Headbutt the crack. Repeatedly. Showing no signs of harm to himself as he did so.

"An elevator, how convenient," Bill said, joining Hideo Kino at the broken set of doors. "I don't suppose it's working," he said, just as the boy's Pokemon slammed into the doors with its charged attack. Musharna floated over Bill's shoulder, her dreams causing her to shiver. Silver light shifted in her smoke, visions of metal rending and breaking.

"Knock knock!" Bill said, as Hideo's Beheeyem headbutted the doors again. In answer, Musharna's Future Sight manifested, pelting the metal from the other side, like a creature breaching containment and clawing for escape. "Who is it?" Bill called, and abruptly the sounds stopped. He waited a few seconds before turning to Hideo. "Guess it was just the wind."

Naturally, a distrust for Bill Anderson sees Gavin stick close to him... at first.

"That'd be too convenient, I'd wager."

He might've thought to reactivate it with electricity if he'd brought the right Pokemon along but instead zeroes in on the crack that Bill and Hideo Kino have been assaulting. Brute force wasn't always his style, and this was a contest about brains, not brawn.

"Good luck with that."

So he and Corviknight move to the stairs, instead, where Locke Jamison has begun to construct a rope.

"Substitute and send it down."

Corviknight quarks in reply before its SUBSTITUTE takes shape above the stairwell. It swoops down without hesitation; if the bottom of the stairs were trapped, they'd soon find out.

"Damn," Serena muttered as she walked through the musty area they were directed to. She thought for sure she'd be one of the first people to go. The way her luck was set up after tended to be horrendous like that. Following where everyone else seemed to be gathering she saw there was a choice they needed to make. [break][break]

Normally in a crisis, going the elevator route wasn't the safest option. So she decided to go with her gut here and assist the people with the stair problem. There was something layered on the stairs and they had no idea what it was. Was it just a slippery surface? Was it poisonous? Who knows? [break][break]

Watching as Gavin's Corviknight uses SUBSITUTE before checking down the stairs. Serena nodded down at Junior, who she'd decided to dress up in a harmless disguise for this little adventure. She didn't want anyone asking questions about his nature so she made him look a touch more 'normal' with this cute costume. [break][break]

Junior, on the other hand, hated it. But he put up with it for the promise of a good time. Using MIMIC Junior copied SUBSTITUTE and sent his copy on the stairs itself. That way they could figure out if this floor was 'lava' or not. Would they be fine with touching it? Or should they avoid it completely? [break][break]

“Of course, we only have to figure out which of us has a tentacle monster at hand to figure out who the killer is, pretty simple,” she joked, though she doubted anyone cared. Half the people were shocked by what had happened, while the other half were much more task-oriented, already trying to work on the issue. She figured that one’s apathy to these ‘deaths’ was directly proportional to how much one accepted the decidedly non-lethal premise of the game.

And since she fully bought into what she’d been told, she did not really give much of a toss about what happened. It was just a non-standard game over, as far as she was concerned. Way less of a stake than the last mission she’d been in with some of these people.

Anyway, best to make herself useless all the same. Since Rattata was not really suited to dealing with the staircase issue, she had it help with breaking open the lift. “Go and show them how good you are at chewing through things,” she told the little one after a headpat. It immediately darted off towards the doors, seeking to crunch its way through them.

"Where's Cardamom?" Doug asked as they all came together, noticing Cardamom Bliss had disappeared shortly before 2 deaths were announced.

"Already?!" He screamed, wrapping his arms around Hideo Kino and Eris Halla firmly, squinting at the many people around them wearily. Why were crazy ax killers always out for the kids? First Mauville Woods and now this.

As Hideo and Eris got to work on the elevator, Doug simply eyed it wearily, before blinking at local holy man Bill Anderson and his excellent horror antagonist impression.

"Uh..." He uttered, before turning towards Hideo and Eris. "Maybe we should try the stairs instead."

Elevators were dangerous as it were... not that dark, greasy steps leading several floors down were any better.

Couldn't possibly be too bad, though!

"Krys." Doug intoned, prompting his Vespiqueen to approach the stairs, before releasing a hive of several bee drones. Should Doug or anyone else trip- they would hopefully be caught before faceplanting several steps down below.
