The finality of the contest was fast approaching, and Kaida felt a sort of calm about her, "You did good, Muspel." Genuine pride shone through the normally calm woman's voice, and she jerked a hand towards the stage, "Are you ready to end, watch for my orders."

She didn't speak anymore, guiding the Charizard out and facing her, then raising her hands. Outrage, she signed quietly. To those who didn't see it, it seemed the Charizard read her mind, eyes pulsing with a blue energy. It was a move that Kaida didn't make a habit of having on the Charizard, it simply wasn't efficient to wipe out her Pokemon's energy when she was the one that carried her around most battlefields, but this would do.

The Charizard raged, fury coming from deep within as the friendly appearing Charizard writhed and raved, sending blue flames everywhere as she approached Kaida, spewing blue flames every which way. She approached, only to pause and wait as Kaida raised her hand, ordering firmly, "Stop."

And Muspel obeyed, losing all her rage...for Kaida was not just a trainer. She was leader.

TLDR: Kaida is here! Muspel uses Outrage!

There’s unshakable confidence in the way Mars smiles when taking his place under the spotlight – for this is where he belongs, after all. Gaze of bright amber wanders from the audience to the judging panel, only then addressing everyone in the hall. ”I hear you all want to see something you’ve never seen before!” A hand rests on his hip as he turns his attention to the Greninja besides him, and his smile shifts into a smirk; one charmingly playful, one that perhaps may also carry just a hint of wickedness in it. ”Well, how about that? Show us something not even I have seen before!”

Gasps escape the audience!

Will this man really leave it all up to his pokémon at such a vital moment? Is he crazy or is their bond just that strong? Can Greninja really rise to a challenge like this one?

All these questions and more are met by stoic silence on part of the pokémon, his intense stare remaining fixed on Mars before jumping up without a sound.

Up and up and up and UP.

Higher and higher, faster and faster, as if he were taking nimble steps onto the very skies.

Is this a display of airborne dexterity only fitting of a true AERIAL ACE?!

But, as amazing as it may as well be, is it really something those in the hall have never seen before?

More gasps escape a few members of the audience, for those with keen eyes begin to see it clearly: under bright lights, just as his rapid descent begins, the very colours of the now-Flying type begin to shift and change, growing darker and darker in an ever-shifting gradient that makes it seem as if he were being consumed by shadows themselves.

It’s the Greninja’s PROTEAN nature that causes him to change, and by the time he lands with the usual grace and flair, he’s no longer blue but jet black.

They had started out as underdogs, but now they're here. Farther along than she'd ever hoped to come; Luka's a rookie of a trainer, and Lemon a rookie of a Pokémon.[break][break]

It's hard not to feel overwhelmed by all the enormous, powerful Pokémon they're up against. Luka is still new to Hoenn, and her Shinx an even newer addition to the team. They have no accolades to their name, no accomplishments or scars to prove their worth.[break][break]

But they do have Luka's sweetness and Lemon's mettle. She's so proud of her little cub for doing so well and even though they're faltering after the last round, Luka wants everyone else to be just as impressed with her Shinx as she is.[break][break]

"You've...y-you've all seen so many amazing things today," Luka announces as they make their way back onstage. "And so many cool contestants! But I'm here to remind you that Lemon is the coolest of all!" Her Shinx puffs his chest again as he plods onstage, glowing tail-tip wagging back and forth.[break][break]

"What makes him so cool," Luka reiterates, impassioned, "Is his potential! Limitless, and endless! He can be anything, do anything! And he has! Just look at him already! He hasn't faltered once, even in the face of such challenging opponents! So don't take your eyes off him, even for a moment. I can promise you, he's going to be amazing! This might be the finale, but we're just getting started!"[break][break]

A roar of agreement follows her passionate speech. But this sound is far deeper, far louder than before. Lemon leaps into the center of the stage, body crackling with electricity. It envelops his entire form, glowing with an intensity that sears the retinas. When the light fades, the Lemon that stands before the crowd is different. He stands taller, on longer limbs. His mane has grown out to a dark and shaggy black. Lemon tosses his head, sparks flying from static fur, and roars again.[break][break]

Luka gasps in surprise. Lemon glances back, a glint in his eye: even if the audience doesn't respond to her speech, it's clearly touched him. His evolution is exemplary of their bond: the powerful connection that's grown between them, and will certainly continue to deepen. It's more significant to Luka than any contest victory.[break][break] With a growl the Luxio turns back to the enraptured audience, summoning a sphere of energy with his mouth. It materializes into a giant spear of ice, of all things. A fittingly cool move to end the contest with.[break][break]

The icicle is tossed into the air. It spins around once before Lemon leaps up to catch it in his jaws. Stronger, more powerful teeth clamp down on it, more electricity surging through to shatter the ice. It bursts into a thousand tiny fragments, each glowing with residual energy, and falls into the audience like glittering snow.[break][break]

"We've kept it cool for you all," Luka proclaims with a happy laugh, "So thank you for having us! Please, don't take your eyes off him," she says, gesturing back to her Luxio. "He's going to be even more amazing, I can feel it!"[break][break]

the last of the energy to maintain the mega was starting to dissipate. it comes off as steam from the heat of the static within the manectric's fur. an intimidatingly cold glare from the manectric's leering eyes give off a serious vibe despite it just the pokemon keeping it altogether for one final performance.

"time to cool off, tana," kyle casually orders his pokemon in a monotonous tone.

the light dims, and the manectric's soft glow starts to become more prominent. smoke that rise from its body start to change the way it flows, or more accurately, its form. instead of rising, it starts to flow down the floor.

subzero slammer.

in a sudden turn of events, a platform of ice quickly forms from underneath the manectric, bringing the pokemon up in a more elevated platform. multiple icicle stalagmites rise up as well in an explosive manner, covering the entire stage with ice. frost accumulates in a way that it forms a concave around the source, with stalactites hanging from above.

an image of a gaping maw with ice fangs gets showcased, with the manectric right in the middle of it.

the mega evolution ends with the display of power with the burst of ice. the manectric reverts to its usual form, which holds more similarity with the creation it made. a roar that echoes all throughout ends the performance, alongside a call from kyle.

"tana, everyone!" he shouts. no other introduction was needed. kyle was the kind of person to show more than tell anyways.

Chryssa was so busy being dramatic on the floor with her Dewott that she almost missed the final round. "Good thing speed is on our side," she said smugly to cover up her blunder. Drew kicked off the ground with a powerful AQUA JET, propelling herself towards the ceiling of the arena as if launched by a jet pack.

She looped, she zig-zagged, she drew letters in the air the way children drew with sparklers on a festive summer night. Water droplets showered down from the jet-trail left behind, sparkling beneath the stage lights. "That's it for us! Til next time," Chryssa said as the otter completed the final letter and touched down on stage again in a burst of pressurized vapor. The two struck a pose as the words evaporated above them, captured on camera for a split instant.

"Thank you, thank you! I never thought I'd see a turnout like this, but it warms my heart." Steven Harvey belongs to the old blood, a retired coordinator who once sat at the head of them all. Though he remains a modest man, he commands the attention of the other judges and their captive audience. It is why he speaks first.[break][break]

"This will probably be my last contest... but you all brought such energy with you, such passion befitting life. I can't help but feel I'll be leaving today with the knowledge that... That there are those of you ready to take up the mantle. You are all excellent coordinators. We are lucky to have you." He shuffles away without much more, having meant not to seem so sentimental, but he truly cherishes these final moments. The clamorous audience, the fierce competitors... They are all seared into memory, and awaken him to recollections of a bygone generation.

"Steven is right. It's been a tough night for us judges, but we believe we've singled out our strongest competitor! But round after round, move after move... It honestly became hard to decide. We hope you, our audience and contestants, resonate with our choices accordingly. And thank you for coming out tonight!"[break][break]

The lady has an effeminate grace that woos the audience, and it is clear by the prominent ribbon on her coat that she is also a reigning champion after a fashion. Though hardly boasting the same repertoire as her predecessor, she is proven in her own discipline. Shortly after her piece, she surrenders the microphone to the third judge on their panel, after giving the crowd her thanks.

"You've heard them. Tonight's victor was a tough call, but we made the right choice. As we prepare to announce our winner for tonight's contest, fret not if your name isn't called. You are the next generation of coordinators, and we hope that one loss will not spoil your appetite for victory..."[break][break]

The Miss before you is second only to Steven, their first colleague to speak. She is getting on in years, but she yet retains her youthful vigor, and it is plain by her inspiring and determined speech that she wholeheartedly expects to see these contestants time and time again, as they honor the traditions of their ancestors by performing in these contests. She then surrenders the limelight.[break][break]

The fourth and final judge doesn't appeal to the audience just yet, but he gives a tight lipped smile and nods, agreeing with his colleagues on their sentiments. Tonight's contestants didn't make it easy; it'd gone down to the nitty gritty.

"As they've said, it took much deliberation to single out our winner," Adrian begins as he steals back the show, boasting a ribbon of his own and, unbeknownst to the crowd, having his own say in the declared winner's anointment. It's only natural then that he get to announce their victor. He tears open an envelope...[break][break]

"And the ribbon goes to...!" Adrian plays on the suspense, teasing the crowd.[break][break]

The crowd erupts as their champion is named, and many of them lend their voices to the uproar, triumphantly celebrating their COOLEST competitor. The contestant is allowed to take center stage to accept the champion's ribbon from Adrian, as well as a resounding round of applause that rings out ceaselessly into the night, reverberating through the contest hall, that even their predecessors might hear it. Before the excitement can die out, their mystery judge takes the microphone, prepared to end the night on a high note. As it nears his mouth, the microphone gives a shrill wail.

"Congratulations to our latest victor! Many of you competed valiantly, forcing us to rely on more than just our intuition. Moreover, we encourage you all to participate in the next season of contests. We are most keen to see how many of you stack up once Hoenn has adjusted to the International Coordinator Format. And to hold you over until then, we have a special closing ceremony..."[break][break]

The crowd goes wild when they realize it is none other than Pierce acting as their celebrity judge. While the judges stand and give the winner their applause, Pierce moves towards a separate platform where his band, Struggle, prepares to play one of their hit songs. Even Adrian, a fan since his youth, cannot help but rave over them.[break][break]

Thank you everyone for competing in my first ever contest! Based on how well it has been received, I've decided to make it an annual thing, a circuit of sorts. Throughout the course of a year I will host one of every category, starting towards the New Year! Sign ups will begin shortly before then. This will allow us to move forward with the contests after the BDSP Contest updates! Excited?! Me too![break][break]
