the sound of coughing caught his attention and looking back he could see a group of people sucking in what looked like rancid gas. taking out a pokeball he swapped out his ponyta with a pokemon that could probably help them out. of course when the walls around them suddenly burst the plan would have to be put on hold. indefinitely. standing up in the canoe the water caused it to slightly rock back and forth making him fall out of it and into the water as it pooled around him, but now that he was on the floor he could see that the canoes were starting to float among the water as it rose up in the room. was this what they were made for?

before he could even voice a question or any kind of realization about them he felt the floor beneath him suddenly give way and open up to reveal some kind of tunnel that the water began to pour into. looking between it and the canoes it started to click for him, they were meant to ride them down this tunnel. "hey! everyone pile on in! looks like it'll be a bit of a rough ride though!" he called out to the group as he got to his feet only to notice something.

there were a lot of people...and the canoes were only so big. even looked like he would take up two seats on either one of them meaning that they might not all fit in them. did that mean that someone would get left behind? who?

"dammnit, why even ask that?" he knew who should get left out of the canoes. taking out a pokeball he released his samurott who looked shocked at the chaos that was unfolding around it, "no time kusanagi, just let me hold on tight ok? and don't let me fall!" with that the samurott edged himself close to the tunnel to jump in whenever kaz was ready as he climbed onto the back of his pokemon and held onto its neck with muscular arms wrapped around it as he turned back to the crowd, "c'mon! if ya can't find a seat someone can join up with me and kusanagi here!" even if they could all probably fit in them besides him that didn't mean he like he shouldn't offer someone a ride if they couldn't get into one of the canoes as they started to float above the water while his samurott went about detecting anymore dangers that might spring from the walls

    * panics about the water gushing out of the walls
    * chooses neither canoes to give everyone else a spot but sticks close to the right canoe
    * swaps out ponyta with samurott to use as a personal boat
    * offers one extra seat alongside him on samurott
    * samurott uses detect to protect itself and its rider

ROUND 1


His reflexes prove to be surprisingly on point for once.

His eyes find the gleam of something valuable in time, and his body reacts to everything as it should. His hand moves swiftly, snatching the pearl inside as his legs spring up and away from the noxious fumes.

Unfortunately sending him flying head first onto the low ceiling once again.

Clobberin' time.

"Arrghrrrbbk, sonova...!" Hissed the youth with a growl as he snapped back down into a low squat, hands cradling the back of his head in pain as he groaned. His Volbeat giggled above him as he did, drawing a glare from the youth."Rrrhgh... figures."

Given the abundance of light sources around them, the volbeat soon found itself returned to its Net Ball.

The lump on his head dissipated into nothing on its own quickly enough as he approached the dead, putrid Clamperl back, snapping it shut before picking it under his arm.

Something about it looked weird, and he knew someone pretty good with corpses. Time to give Dr. Kyle'stein a visit. Sweeping his eyes over the crowd, he realized his Clam buddies hadn't been as lucky as him in their efforts.

He would have offered help, but Dr. was faster, offering her own treatment to the others. He considered for a moment, before shrugging his shoulders. She probably had more practice than him if anything, so it was best to leave it to her.

Though... Looking at was close by, the young man reached over and clapped him in the back with a handful of pink dandruff, it quickly merging into the man's body and spreading underneath his skin.

"Caught off guard by a dead clam? What, gettin' old?" He asked teasingly before he turned towards the rest of the group.

He approached Mr. , holding the clamped shut corpse on his hands.

"Mr. Lopez." He intoned as he approached, holding the corpse to him. "Could ya do yer... thing? There's somethin' funny 'bout this Clamperl."

You know, other than the fact that it was dead.

Regardless of what the Champion did following that, the situation would suddenly escalate without warning moments later.

Water was suddenly back on their heels, splashing as they walked, and the sound of it rushing nearby promised there would be a lot more of it soon.

Furthermore, the floor suddenly felt... brittle.

"Nothin' can ever be simple." The youth muttered lowly as he swept his gaze around, finding the very unorthodox looking canoes before booming at those who had stayed further away from them.

"Place is flooding- Everyone get on the boats!"

He hauls himself onto the right Canoe, before snapping a confused look at . This man was far too ready to die sometimes.

"Get on the boat, mate! Anyone has to ride out the wave, might as well be the water-type master who can breath underwater." He said bluntly to the other, before swiveling his gaze to the Good ol' Cptn .

"I know for a fact she's seen far worse than this on a literal evening stroll." He noted dryly.

TL;DR:
-Matrix dodged his way straight into the low ceiling.
-Still Whining about low ceilings.
-Returned Volbeat to its pokeball for that sweet Winter Calendar.
-Healed . Leaving Silph duo to .
-Brought a Clamperl corpse to for white mage purposes.
-Gets on the Right Canoe.
-Telling to get on the fuggin' boat.
-Reminding of that time her date with a kid turned into an impromptu suicide-raft mission.

The fact that Skyler had poked the red markings were a sign of things to come—

It was like poking the glowing red markings set off a big-ass trap all at once. Well, several.

What with the sudden noxious cloud coming from the general direction where John and Angelo had congregated—what the hell was with those Clamperl-like husks?

Instead, though, the water—the ‘wall’ seemed to melt and then the water came rushing in.

Along with the sudden brilliance that was coming from Skyler’s body.

“Sky… you’re glowing. Like mad,” Lars blurted, before the water began to flood the place—forcing him to recall the Starmie back into its Pokéball, before pointing at the incoming burst of water. He then remembered that the other could most likely breathe underwater, so she would be fine, but then everyone else wouldn’t be and—

“Angelo, move!” he shouted, the panic evaporating for a few moments as he made his way over to the right boat (canoe?) and attempted to get in.

He wasn’t blessed by the waters, oh hell no. Nope!

Noticing that Kazimir was going to hang around on the right side of the boat but not getting in, he added in John’s wake, “Idiota, you heard the kid, get in the boat! Don’t be some kind of blockheaded hero—”

As fingertips glide over the hard stone, a disruption makes her pause. The smooth edge of a strange coin has her tracing it before plucking it off the canoe. The faint light provided by the pokemon gives her something to work with. The strange markings are like nothing she’s seen before. They seem ancient, unknown. Much like all of this.

In the other room, shit goes down with the Clamperl. The commotion is enough to snap Eva out of the small trance she finds herself in. Her gaze snaps back towards their now POISONED comrades. It seems the Tapu avatars have the healing under control. With them around, Eva’s going to be out of a job soon.

Eva tucks the COIN into one of the tight pockets of her suit. Blade glances at it curiously, a concerned look on his otherwise stoic face. It doesn’t stay stoic for long. The rush of energy makes the Psychic-type jump, clinging to Eva with a protective hold, arm raised in preparation to defend.

Red light casts a ominous glow throughout the chamber as the barriers ‘melt’ away. A familiar sounds of rushing water proceeds the cool feeling of it lapping at her ankles, “Uh-oh,” the floor seems to shift beneath her feet, throwing her off balance.

“Oh sit!” Blade catches her, bringing her back to ‘solid’ ground . . . or whatever is left of it, “Pile on, folks! We’re goin’ for a ride!” she encourages the others to board the boats.

“Sorry bud, you’re not a good swimmer,” Despite the Gallades protest, a POKEBALL sucks him back in. Another flash of light releases a sturdy Alomomola. Eva’s suit flashes from the ivory and green pattern and takes the faint pink of the Caring Pokemon, “Keep up, Galena! We’ll need your protection,” Eva hops into the closest canoe alongside and . A hand reaches out to help whoever needs the help into the canoe. As the water rises, Galena grows more comfortable, righting herself and sticking close to the boat. A shimmering light dances around her pink silhouette, ready to defend the canoe if needed.

SOLUTIONS TO SYGNA IN THE SILVER SPIRE




VIGILANCE IS REWARDED. unlike those who put themselves in harm’s way, fernando’s punishment is rectified with an immediate return of his ambipom. hardly consequential considering the amount of pokemon he’s brought.

in the aftermath, offers her services. while appreciated, there is a time and place. the empty lull of their exploration won’t last long—that’s always the case. and, mere moment later, ’s tampering unfurls right in front of them.

at first, the only solution is to exit how they came. it’s a long swim back but the inner chamber seems to be a dead end. at least until enough water congregates to cause the floor to creak open.

“in here,” he barks, holding his prior position between the two chambers.

’s voice echoes in the larger chamber shortly thereafter. orders are passed down and the expectation is that everyone will end up congregated against the two canoes.

and, naturally, they swap out their pokemon for those that can navigate underwater. what they forget in their haste is that their first choice in pokemon had been to ILLUMINATE the bitter darkness.

as ’s ponyta is recalled, so too does their source of light within the smaller chamber. in a short break away from 's hold, fernando runs his thumb against his holster. feeling his way toward the appropriate pokeball is rewarded with the perfect pick: his lanturn.

the STOCKPILE of bacteria in its yellow lures glows brightly as it sinks into the rising water.

“make space and buddy up,” he calls out as he boards the LEFT CANOE. “keep tabs on your partner.”

there were sixteen of them selected for this mission. a nice even number that allows each individual to remain accountable for one another. the late addition, , is forgotten in the sudden chaos of impending danger.

if anything, 's massive cheeks look buoyant enough to perhaps function as their personal flotation device should things go wrong.

a pokeball flashes open as he jumps into the RIGHT CANOE. the pyukumuku that sticks on his back purrs in greeting. and like , matias offers a hand to those who need help getting into the canoe.

"Whoops."

Normally this word would prelude an imminent explosion in the Sotally Tober's kitchen. This time, however, it follows the low rumble of ancient stonework and the flood of water that spills into the chambers.

Red bleeds from the walls, its glow and familiar patterns mimicked visibly on her own sun-kissed skin. Skyler ignores it, takes a few steps back from the wall. 

While she doesn't seem too bothered by the rising tide, the captain doesn't dawdle either. She hesitates only briefly, to peer past her shoulder at Kyogre's markings with the ghost of a frown on her lips - before moving to reunite with the others. 

"I hope you still know your way around a boat, Scallywag." Catching the tail-end of 's words as she approaches, Skyler gives him a lopsided grin that is utterly at odds with the urgency of the current situation. "We might need that knowledge soon." Now, she means.

But it's only when the floor begins to cave under their feet that silver widens in sudden alarm, the fingertips that had found a gentle path down 's palm abruptly drawing back.

"Well, fuck." 

Skyler boards the closest canoe, releasing Kingler with a small set of instructions. It stands at the ready, waiting to use WIDE GUARD in combo with 's Alomomola. 

By the time the captain makes her way to the very front of the canoe (or what appears to be the edge that is going to plummet forward), and after bumping into quite a few people in the process, her markings are still glowing a violent red.

Gritting her teeth against the shouts and the rushing of water, Skyler attempts to use her powers to make their ride hopefully a little less bumpy - and less likely to result in everyone's untimely demise.

As it turns out, something did actually die in here… [break][break]

“Fuck…” Expression grim, Angelo gives the plume of rancid gas a half-hearted wave to try and dispel it. What was done was done, however. The pilot could already feel the mist of decay burning a path down his throat and into his lungs. [break][break]

Might as well claim his prize. [break][break]

There’s no hesitation as he tucks the awaiting treasure in his holster and steps away from the rotting corpse he’d pillaged – it won’t be kept as a souvenir. [break][break]

It’s only when he moves away and someone slaps a hand between his shoulder blades that Angelo’s vision sways in a nauseous spell. is lucky he has a strong stomach. [break][break]

“I thought using powder snow was Lars’s thing…?” He shoots back an automatic quip, putting on a show of brushing off some of Doug’s stray dandruff that had landed on his shoulder. Instantly the dizziness alleviates, Angelo watching as pink glitter seeps into his tanned skin with fascination. [break][break]

They’re joined by then, who brings with her a surge of water that crashes cold and violent against his ankles. [break][break]

“Just like a regular ol’ Saturday at home,” he hums dryly, the faint brush down his palm reciprocated with a brief interlocking of little fingers, squeezing before they break apart. [break][break]

Watery mishaps were an everyday affair aboard the Sotally Tober when you’re married to Kyogre’s fledgling avatar. [break][break]

Crumbling caves? Not so much. [break][break]

As everyone plays hero or leader, Angelo wades through the rapidly rising tide with collected purpose. Heading straight for the RIGHT CANOE with pokeball in hand.[break][break]

Releasing his Chimecho, the wind chime instantly curls its tail around Angelo’s bicep, tethering itself to him tightly as a shimmering CRAFTY SHIELD is added around their vessel. [break][break]

“Breathe, man.” He advises with a hand on his shoulder, encouraging the twitchy Head Ranger to sit near him, hushed voice as firm as his grip. “We’re in for a hell of a ride…”

He put his back to the wall when was being spurned on to touch the wall. Keeping his eye on both chambers from the side. The 'gem of the sea' at his command acted as a floodlight to both sides.


Arms crossed, he observed until it came to him to do otherwise.

The opening of the Clamperl was what finally jarred his sense of smell. Hoenn's air was fresh and he got plenty of it these days but Mt. Cinnabar farted sulfur over the island he grew up on a few times a year.

Meanwhile Mt. Coronet put the snow in Snowpoint City over in Sinnoh.

Apparently only air-sealed death, freshly unsealed could trump that; yay.

It turned out he was wrong about the shells triggering a flood mechanism he watch the four open the shells in their different ways and reactions and subsequently take the poisons and prizes yielded; a microcosm of the luck at play.

Four attempts, four results.

and got one each. got neither. got both.

The green clamperl coloring wasn't lost on him, not much he could do concerning it now.

-wasn't much time from when Dross touched the veins to touching the mirrored walling.

Paranoid about a flood already he reacted to the glass quick; attempting to grab at Melody to pull her from the path of the water's pressured entry. "I was gonna buy you a steak, but this makes us even."

she should’ve known better than to leave to her own devices.

the gym-leader’s curiosity leads to a small-scale disaster, just as the opening of the sealed clamperls did. what a beautiful start. ”melody!” she’s reminded of ’s childish antics for the briefest of moments, but the thought of the rocket is quickly dismissed away in the face of a bone-chilling, wet adversity. ”stay close, please. try not to touch things unless you have to.”

Of course it was her curiosity that set off a horrific chain of events. the celebration is short-lived when comes in with a request, then leaves him with the corpse of a long dead pokemon. who does that?

within minutes of his arrival, things turn to shit.

despite exploring an unknown and presumably dangerous cavern, the desire to explore is engraved in the human genome. a near irresistible itch to touch things that scream 'don't touch me'! whether it was the strange glass pane, or the corpses of pokemon. in his youth he might've done the same - no one was infallible after all - so he could hardly hold it against him. but, it should come to no surprise to anyone, when things turn sour quickly.

At the sudden gas’s Razz can’t help but real back, basically dropping the clampearl and doing a mix of gaggging and coughing as the gas from the dead clam has poisoned him and others. Everything feels off yet familiar as poison wan’t something he wasn’t unfamiliar with. Alabaster seems worried for him, and for a moment he wishes either of their abilities could do something about this. Though seems like he doesn’t have to as offers her abilities. The ranger nods and quickly just uses his phone to take a picture of the odd colored pearl before he dizzily walks over to the Silph Scientist for healing. Nodding and signing a ‘thanks’.[break][break]

In his previous dizziness he doesn’t register why his Litwick jumps onto him, climbing up until he is on the Ranger’s head like a hat when Razz finally registers the water flowing. Razz looking around and noting how the markings were glowing just like was and for now just links the two together, great. Even though he’s recovered it takes his mind a moment to fully get the poison out, The Sootopolian not to worried by water seeing as he lived used to live on the beach. [break][break]

Though calling for him makes him properly move over toward the left canoe and takes a place between the champion and with the Litwick on top of his head.

Watching as he did meant he was the last to get to the canoes, but he wasn't the last to get in.

seemed to have the same idea he did as, only more spacious and seemingly slower.

Originally his line was, "Mine's faster than yours." but he kept it to himself.

But a pissing contest was hard to call in a flood. So he avoided that outcome entirely.

He did want to ride it out solo, between SURF, GRAVITY, and TELEPORT he would have liked to see if he could manage but something about potentially debating over who gets to risk their lives felt like bad leadership and hapless behavior.

Shuriken spun its backside, chopping through the water to keep him afloat. A stepping pad, the seastar was as the Head Ranger jumped in the RIGHT canoe wedging himself in the rear most spot behind who? yeah lets say it was Laurs.

Quickly enough he gave his starmie some direction; orders to teleport the three other clamperl back to and return.

He even give it a time parameter. "Ten Seconds." It was gone before could pronounce the 'con'.

Over the side of the right canoe he asked, _ pointing to the left. "You're not gonna waste that last seat are you?" Was it the last seat? Where the hell was ?
