Flying back to Slateport City on a nice winter day such as this was supposed to be no inconvenience for the Noivern, but just as it was nearing Oldale Town, something smacked it right in the face.

Too bad the dragon couldn’t read…

When looking down at the quiet town, it noticed the same type of paper slip everywhere and pokémon trying to help get rid of them, and rolling her eyes, it touched down upon one of the town’s roofs, grabbing the nearby slips so they wouldn’t get blown away by the wind.

Littering is bad! This is just one of the many platitudes Luka's instilled in her Pokemon, along with sharing is caring and only you can prevent wildfires! So while her trainer makes a wish for herself and helps to keep things on the ground orderly, her Altaria takes to the skies to help.[break][break]

Meringue proudly does her part to clean up the shrine, flying up on cottony wings to pluck bits of paper from rooftops and high boughs. Her beak is full of them when she returns to earth, spitting the damp slips like confetti into the bin. But a few of them catch the wind and flutter off again, and so begins another round of searching and tidying up for the fluffy bird.[break][break]

The slips all say something, not that Meringue can really read them. She dutifully discards each one into the trash, whether they be silly or sentimental.[break][break]

One wishes for good tidings to their family and friends.[break][break]

One wishes for dahlia goode's hand in marriage.[break][break]

And another wishes for the destruction of Hoenn, a day of reckoning and darkness and ruin—[break][break]

"Urania...."

The little TOGETIC sputtered after his teammate, but was having some trouble matching her pace.

"Urania, p-please..." Huff, sputter, struggle. "I... I... c-can't keep up..."

Suddenly! A cramp in his left wing immobilized him midair. His right wing flapped wildly, trying to compensate.

But it was no use.

"URANIAAAAAA!!"

His little wings just couldn't muster the strength any longer. Poor Zephyr plummeted to his untimely death.

His landing was a little softer than expected, though. More of a 'thud' than a 'SPLAT'.

"Huh?"

The TOGETIC tentatively lifted one eyelid, only to find he had landed on the back of his great dragon friend.

"Oh! You caught me! Gee, you're the best, Urania!"

The NOIVERN's complete indifference told a different story, but Zephyr was oblivious. He was just thankful to have caught up with his friend.

"Oh? We're picking up these weird pieces of paper? Okay!"

And, bless him, he did. For every 20 pieces that Urania scavenged, Zephyr picked up maybe 2. He was trying his best.

GUAVAFANG was something of a friend to most shrines in the Hoenn region. Well... any that grew or lived near guava trees, anyway. True to her namesake, she would often depart from the safety of her master's draciary to visit them and indulge in the fruit. The monks and priestesses often brought her other treats, too, whenever she scared away pests, robbers, or ghosts.

Today, however, the task at hand was different. (And, as it would turn out, the pay as well.)

Fortune paper slips littered the rooftops of the shrines and filled the sky above them, too, as they were carried by the breeze. After seeing the monks and priestesses try and fail to catch these wayward slips, Guavafang leapt in to help, stuffing her face with an entire guava before climbing one of the shrines. Skewering paper slips on her claw like a kebab, she hardly bothered to read them, instead choosing to eat them.

Eventually, she would take to the sky and eat those, too.

How dirty some humans were, leaving such a mess and what was worse leaving pokemon to clean up after them. And then they happened to wonder why balloons like them seemed to make their children disappear. Well allegedly do such a thing, there was never any proof, just silly stories. [break][break]

For now a task has been ask of her by her master, to help clean up. A job made easy with the use of HEX and using the ghostly wind to blow away the papers. For the time keeping an eye out for any of the fortunes to come with any names of note worthy. See if some fortunes of people silly enough to leave their names on things. Though honestly most was uneventful like 'i wanna find my true love' [break][break]

Most days, this particular shrine on the side of town was a nice place to roost away from the hustle and bustle of the ranch. It was quiet, isolated, and the volunteers never seemed to mind Vinci’s presence. They even let her play with the big bell if things were slow!

Today, however, was anything but slow. Strong winds had torn New Year’s fortunes away from every shrine in Oldale, scattering them everywhere and making the most awful mess. At the volunteers’ pleas, the Skarmory slashed a metal wing through the air, letting loose another flurry of knife-sharp feathers to Spike the slips of paper into the ground.

Was she possibly making a bigger mess? Sure. But at least they wouldn’t have to chase this one all over town.

The small Taillow dove through the air, contemplating his new companions. The woman had called him Sarin, which was odd but not problematic as she had also been feeding him at the time. Food made lots of things better.[break][break]

Landing on the highest branch of a tree, Sarin looked down at the town. His eye immediately caught sight of small flutters; he hopped eagerly a few times, tilting his head so he could see the movements a bit better. Prey? [break][break]

As the small bird dove down towards the nearest flutter, he narrowly dodged a very focused Noivern. Sarin landed about a foot away from the object, glaring up into the skies. There were quite a few fliers out right now, which wasn't particularly odd - but why was a Noivern out in the middle of the day? He let out a frustrated huff, turning his attention back to what he'd come down here for.[break][break]

He hopped closer, quickly realizing it was a piece of paper. Comfy nest. He grabbed the paper with his beak and did a couple happy hops before remembering he'd seen other flutters nearby. Sarin looks around and realizes that the other fliers are also interested in the small fluttering scraps, gathering them in a variety of different ways. The little bird narrows his eyes competitively and carefully tucks the scrap into his feathers. Taking off, Sarin begins diving for every scrap of paper he can, stowing them all safely amongst his feathers. He was excited to see the look on his teammate's faces when he brought all the papers back to them. Soft nest - companions will like, he thought to himself proudly.

Isn’t misfortune just a common facet of life? Why even bother littering just because you don’t like the fortune you received?

The Pelipper ascends into the sky, pulling slips of paper with its beak, storing them within its gular sac. It has half the mind of going out of its way to personally delivering each fortune to those who carelessly tossed them away.

If only it could read.

Still, with the combined help of the other pokemon, cleaning after the shrine is simple enough.
