the last one doesn't count since he was just warming up. you can't call exercises actual attempts since they're really just that.

this time, he's serious. he never fails on anything, and every "fail" he got was just him messing around or simply testing the waters. he still hasn't synergizes with his mantine, and only then will it actually count.

he doesn't actually go outside much, contrary to his build. he felt like he was going to be humiliated by the first try, but given that he was pushed into this and agreed, he can't fault anyone but himself for trying.

he gets on the mantine. it feels different from any other flying-type he had ridden on, and to think he has to balance himself on top of it without any traction already has him thinking he won't be able to do it.

still, there was no choice but to try the third hardest trick, and that he does.

When life throws you constantly into the water coming face to face with the unforgiving sea of disdain and pain, you get back on that Mantine despite the fact that you've fallen seven times without being even remotely close. You start off well, but you feel the pressing need to try again. Ashley feels this tenacity, and he will do it. He's doing it. He's got this. Or so help him, he's gonna fail.

And he'll probably fail. As he, shocking no one, attempts the Magikarp Splash. He'd get somewhere.

The Mantine was as surprised as he was, and the poor baby snuggled up to him afterwards. After a few pets and reassurances that he wasn't mad at them, the teenager climbed back aboard. Giving the Pokemon a few more head pats, they were off again. He would not be perturbed! Whether it was reckless stubbornness or pure idiocy, he was going for it again! And smacked face first into the water before even the first part of the trick.
