In Route 121, there is a tree with an entrance inside Elise's secret base. The wooden room of the base is decorated with a gothic castle-like design with a wooden table and chairs along with a china tea set imported from Galar on it, plushies of both Ponyta and the Litwick line sit at a display desk, a bookcase filled with Galarian myths, paintings of her father's Galarian royal ancestors hung up at the wall, and a rug with the design of the Galarian royal flag at the main entrance.[break][break]

A blue flag with white stripes is the main decoy to make sure that the people who seek the real one would be fooled by it while the real blue one without the stripes is under the wooden table with the tea set. Elise has entrusted her Froslass to be her Secret Base's guardian to throw out the intruders or to use force when it's necessary to.

Josh's romp with his Eeveelutions continued, Kairi's flicking tail granting him passage around Mount Pyre's bay while Inky's ice attacks let Basil, Janus, and Kamuy run across the temporarily-frozen surface. While on the way to the Safari Zone to check out the Pokémon available on tour for the month, Josh ran into a large, hollowed-out tree that reminded him of his friend's residence in Petalburg Woods. He took a peek inside, and could not believe his eyes.

This was totally different than when he visited his friend's off-city residence. This looked like a Galarian castle from ceiling to floor, the bookshelf filled with regional myths catching his eye. In particular, the myth of the Galarian Sword and Shield caught his eye, seeing two heroes alongside enormous wolf-like Pokémon. He didn't recognize either one even though they looked similar to the Zacian he had done battle with in the Cloud.

The cackle of a Froslass gave him pause, letting him know he was not welcome. As the ghost floated toward him, he knew he was on borrowed time, searching for the all-important flag. The first he saw was the fake. He picked it up and examined it, looking for the small Ranger logo indicating authenticity. It was nowhere to be found. Kamuy let out a cry when he found the real flag underneath a table just as the Froslass started to spirit the group of Eeveelutions and their trainer out of the castle-tree; not even the Umbreon was immune to the ghost's ability to show them the door by force.

What a cozy little room. The imperial decor and obligatory mentions of tea reminded Andrea of when she had visited the Galarian embassy with one Remiel Calcifet. As she reached out to grab the fake flag, a Froslass materialized out of thin air, glowering threateningly at the human girl.

Her Fuecoco let out a Yawn. The yuki-onna Pokémon narrowed its eyes at the baby crocodile. Was he bored? Unforgivable... Somehow, the Ice type yawned back, eyelids slowly closing. It drifted to sleep, landing gracefully on one of the chairs, and allowing Andrea to spot the real flag hidden under the tea table.

Angelo stalls at the entrance to the treehouse. Had he just stumbled upon someone's secret Remiel Calcifet shrine by mistake?

Very weird.

But whatever floats your boat, he guessed.

Muddy boots leave a trail on the decretive, Galarian flag rug as he crosses over the threshold. Shivering as a cold chill runs down his spine like a warning of an incoming storm on the breeze.

Turning, Angelo notices the footprints and sucks on his teeth. Whoops.

“Oh, shit. Don't curse my bloodline, Calcifet.”

Crouching down to rub at the mess half-heartedly (and only making it worse) he misses the Froslass looming over his shoulder, peeved to all hell.

He does notice the flag under the table, however.

Cold, vengeful hands freeze before it can reach the pilot's neck when, roused from his slumber, a Dreepy emerges from the depths of a pocket.

Distracted by the ghostly infant, the Froslass is oblivious as Angelo takes his prize

Just in case, she goes snooping around the bookshelves, taking the time to peruse the various books on mythology as her Yamper runs freely around the room. But the more pages she reads through, the less confidence she has that she'll find what she's looking for. Nothing on dark knights or whatever things that return to the shadows from whence they came or whatever that passage had been but Eyja soon comes barreling back at her with a flag in her maws.[break][break]

And a rather angry looking Froslass on her tail.[break][break]

A clear indication that it's time to go.

[attr="class","skullbody"]The flag was right there, out in the open. Had this been Isaac's first rodeo, he would've made a beeline right towards it. Yet this was secret base #12. By this point, Isaac was certain more of them were fake than true.[break][break]

It was when he felt a chill down his spine that Isaac really started to suspect the worst.[break][break]

Had his shadow always stretched out this far? Before he could even consciously process the thought, Isaac had flung himself out of the way, just in time to avoid the emerging Froslass' wake-up slap.[break][break]

As he hit the deck, Isaac studied the base's guardian. Nope. No flag on his person. He pressed himself against the ground to avoid an incoming Shadow Ball, now content that the guardian wasn't hiding any flags. But if that wasn't where the base's true prize lied, then where was it?[break][break]

A flash of lightning from a Thunderbolt warning shot illuminated the answer. Of course! Right under the table! That was some smart positioning. Nobody ever looked down during these challenges. Especially not when they were being haunted by a vengeful spirit.[break][break]

Uh oh. Ice Shards were raining down from above. Not wanting to be skewered, Isaac started rolling towards the table, hoping against hope that his shoulders and hips could flip him into position before the Froslass caught on. Sure enough, with each shard, her aim got better, until the last one was dead-on towards his position.[break][break]

Just in time. Isaac grabbed the table leg, pulling it over him to block the Ice Shard before it was too late. His goal was now fingertips away, Isaac inching towards it to snag it between his fingertips. Mission complete! The Froslass, seeing that her job was done, shot him a single nod before fading into the shadows.[break][break]

No gimmicks. No schemes. Just a single, well-trained Pokemon. Now this wasn't a base for the faint of heart!

A hollowed-out tree with a large entrance door swung half-open? This looked too much like Shalin's Petalburg Woods home not to check out! While their exteriors looked much the same, the insides could have been any more different; while she kept the interior of her home as natural as possible, the inside of this tree looked like a Galarian castle. Whoever lived here was likely both a royal and wealthier than sin. The only name she knew that fit those criteria was Elise Calcifet . The girl picked up the Galarian Ponyta plush and cuddled with it, which reminded her: she needed to catch one for herself!

As Shalin picked up the striped flag to look for the Ranger seal of authenticity, she felt herself being spirited away by a cackling Froslass that surrounded her in a cold wind, her heavy eyelids unable to remain open in the biting temperatures. When she came to outside the tree, she found that the solid blue flag was next to her instead of the striped one. Did the Froslass do this, feeling sympathy for her upon spotting the flag and solving the base's puzzle, though unable to grab it herself?

Was this a secret base, or a pocket castle? Makoto couldn't help but admire the gothic decor, as they stepped into the base - a tree on the outside, and yet made to look as if it was a room out of some olden Galarian castle on the inside. Though they were undecided on how they felt about the designs associated with the Galarian royals aesthetically, everything else present certainly spoke to them.

Though a flag set up near the entrance caught their attention - Makoto taking the time to take it and look it over - close inspection proved it to be a fake. Which did pose the question, of where the real one was... Not that Makoto would have much time to search, before a certain guardian made her presence known.

It came with a chill in the air - not solely because of the dropping temperature, but also a distinct sort of feeling that Makoto was quite familiar of, having raised Kuro. They'd turn around to find themself face to face with a froslass - Ayaka. The ghost-type was a menacing sight, to say the least - she clearly had no intentions of just allowing Makoto to linger.

As she made to grab Makoto though, they would manage to duck away from the grasping claws. They'd make to try and search through the base, a grin growing across their face. This was a chase, cat and mouse - and though they were the mouse, the idea of having to make a daring theft and escape whilst being chased by a ghost was an exciting one. They would dart deeper into the base - passing by the plushies and books on display, eyes searching for the flag as they avoided the snatching grasp of Ayaka.

However, ghost pokemon were a tricky sort - and Ayaka was no different. Makoto would find themself blindsided when howling winds heralded a Powder Snow that knocked them over, sending them tumbling over to the ground. It was then that they caught a glimpse of blue - the flag under the table with the teaset atop it. But though they made an honest attempt to grab for it, Ayaka wasn't playing around at her task.

The winds would send Makoto right out the door they entered, the door slamming shut behind them. A shame - but well, Makoto couldn't help a chuckle at it all as they got up, dusting off the snow from their outfit. Perhaps they could try again, later..?
