He wears a mask, careful to get infected as he sends out Altan to burn away the spores. "Clear it all out, burn any pokeballs you see Altan!" he said as e directed civilians out of the way of is Solrock. The rock type floated forward, bright red eyes glowing as it tried to isolate the most pokeball like object at once before it rammed itself into the whole mess with FLARE BLITZ.

Love balls and dive balls go flying along with pokeballs, but some poisoned Foongus and even an Amoongus reveal itself, flames sputtering away on their toxic chains. As they encroach the pair, Altan takes a moment to absorb sunlight, taking the strange spores they try to douse it with before letting off a SOLAR BEAM, burning away everything on itself and decimating te chains attached to his targets.

While more specialized pokeballs like Net or Nest balls were most certainly safe, it seemed that an infestation against the more common ones - such as ordinary Pokeballs - was posing a threat.

Ettie, at the very least, had tools aplenty to clear out any impostors - the packs' keen noses, Haru's flames, and Astus' Ominous Wind, Tailwind, and Heat Waves. Spores are kept at bay, Foongus and Amoongus are cleared out, and toxic chains burned away....

And once they sent a group of recently de-chained shroom 'mons packing, the wildchild would let out a sigh of relief.

He wandered the Slateport Night Market, looking for ingredients and shards of the past.

Slateport was a bustling metropolis, but it was also a silent warzone. Not due to the endless battling between Team Rocket and the Pokémon League, though that certainly played a part. No, it was a warzone because of the restaurants that dotted the city. They were islands of cuisine and quality in an ocean of urban sprawl.

Yet success was something that was earned, not found. It was sparked by passion, forged in practice, and fettered in pure talent. In life, the inept yet longing would never reach the level of the adept and talented. It was like comparing a Pokeball to an Ultra Ball. Both had the same purpose, yet one was undeniably better.

"Hm. These are good, I'll take thirty of these Pinap Berries." Preston pointed choice berries out to a person running a stall. Restaurants often warred for first pick of ingredients. Only the freshest could be used. The rest were dross, left for mediocre culinary artists who barely knew their craft. "No bruising."

He took the bag, paid, and went on his way, stopping at a Pokeball vendor overrun with Amoongus. The chef's tongue clicked as he noticed the Toxic Chain.

"Here too, huh?" Preston sighed and shook his head. There was no containing it now. He had hoped to check the stalls for Pokemon, desperately hoping that one of them would be his. That wasn't the case, though. They were all dead.

If any of his old Pokémon were still alive, he hoped they would forgive him.

"It's a terrible day for tears." Preston disappeared into the city of lights.

Funny how these kinds of things tended to happen whenever he was…

You know.

Either way, fact of the matter was that there were extremely suspicious things happening right now the moment he saw the familiar, yet absolutely suspicious sentient mushroom Pokémon (look, Unovan native he was, fact of the matter was that anyone worth their Unovan salt would crack a smirk or two around the Amoonguss) he would pop out his blue-feathered Braviary to handle the situation from his battered, extremely scuffed Friend Ball.

And handle the situation he would by fantastically coming to the defense of some poor, wailing kid that was about to be ‘peppered’ into oblivion by a particularly-nasty looking ‘sus’ mushroom by using a last-second Aerial Ace while he himself came swooping in and carrying the child to safety, snotty, bratty tears aside!

All in a day’s work, wouldn’t you say?

At this point, he's not even surprised when he runs into yet another funky mass outbreak of afflicted creatures while trying to enjoy a simple evening stroll through the night market.[break][break]

Sighing, he relents and joins in the effort to round up the nasty little amoonguss attempting to contaminate everything they lay eyes on. "Looks like a job fffffooooor Marnie!" With that build up, a sturdy looking pokemon is likely assumed to appear. [break][break]

Instead, it's a small oddish that pops free of her friend ball, blinking confused eyes at the chaos around her.[break][break]

"Oh no ya don't!" Ben points at a stall of fresh produce (that he'd actually been eyeing in hopes of procuring some fresh veggies for tomorrow's lunch, would you believe?) where a cluster of foongus were beginning to converge. "Maybe we can incapacitate them, and then see if they can be detoxed?"[break][break]

A spray of BULLET SEEDS scatter the fungi, but he can't manage to get his hands on one. It's probably for the better.

In the night of Slateport City, the market was entirely overrun by mushrooms that had slipped into carts of Pokeballs, dozens and dozens of them. And where it might have only been an inconvenience at best under normal circumstances, it was yet one more instance of the toxic chains spreading and laying seige to every corner of the region.[break]
It felt like no where was safe...[break][break]
Moving into the market space where a handful of the Amoongus had already started to run rampant, threatening to get too far with their toxic chains, the threat of their influence spreadin that much more prominent.[break]
Yuina moved into the market space with Centos' metallic hooves clicking along the cobblestone, and the mushrooms took issue with being encroached upon. Their spores however, their attempt to spread their fungi to affect the iron sword and stake their claim, did little to turn the situation in their favor. The spores couldn't stick or take hold to Centos' metallic armor, and with glowing blue eyes the sword stepped forward again, ready to cull through the offending fungi.

A dozen QUICK BALLS scattered across the pavement in front of Sasha, filling the air with the sound of metal and plastic clacking against stone. She froze, a plastic bag of late-night convenience store dinner in one hand, her phone in the other. [break][break]

"What in the world?" she barely had time to blurt out before she caught sight of some Amoonguss and Foongus by an overturned crate. Several long, fleshy, purple appendages sprouted from their bodies. [break][break]

Sasha watched as their spores drifted upward, bathing a nearby tree. Immediately, mushrooms and other fungi sprouted from the trunk. [break][break]

"That doesn't look good," she said mildly, her face creased in a slight frown. At her side, her Pawmi uttered a small bark of caution. "You're right, we should hurry home. The authorities will take care of this." [break][break]

She sighed as her stomach growled, a reminder of her predicament. "And anyway, this ramen won't cook itself." [break][break]

Sasha hurried away from the scene with Pawmi at her heels. The rodent paused only briefly to glance over his shoulder, electricity sparking along his furry body, as if anticipating the need for self-defense. Then he bounded away after his trainer. [break][break]

familiar with AMOONGUSS from his many hours spent trying to find the imposter and many more hours spent being the imposter, cian navigates through the night market of slateport with purpose, sniffing out the TOXIC CHAINS almost immediately.

raboot won't let that happen, naturally, as its FLAME CHARGE keeps it quick and on its raboot-feet. cian watches anxiously, fingers tight around a pokeball just in case.

The commotion in the night market caught Thea's attention, and she was quick to try and help, instructing her Pokémon: "Belle, something is wrong with the Pokéballs, tickle them up!" She said, and her Minccino was quick to charge ahead to Tickle the Pokéballs with her rapid tail. And it some point it did work, with some of the Pokéballs reacting and revealing to be Foonguses![break][break]

Unfortunately, that caused a bad side effect, with a fungi suddenly trying to grow on the Minccino's tail. But the Wigglytuff, Gominha, was quick to approach and start to clean up the panicking Minccino by Disabling the fungi, while the Primeape and the Pawmo watched startled the situation unfolding in front of their eyes.[break][break]

"Are you okay, Belle?" Thea asked, resting a hand over the scared Minccino, but after realizing her tail was fine, the Minccino sighed and looked at Thea, letting out a mild chirp. "Good! Maybe we should leave this place before another one of these guys show up—" But before she left, an Amoonguss suddenly leaped on Thea.[break][break]

"AAAAAAAAH! GET OUT!" She screamed, feeling the fungi suddenly wrapping on her clothes and face. This time, the Pawmo reacted quickly, trying to grab the Mushroom Pokémon and pull it... But the effort made him release a powerful Discharge through his pads, sending electric waves through the Amoonguss and striking Thea too, who yelped in pain.[break][break]

The Amoonguss still didn't let go off Thea, until a flurry of Bullet Seeds came from a nearby Oddish, finally knocking it out and making it release Thea, that stumbled on the floor shocked at what had just happened, with hair all the way up. "O-Oww... Z-Zeus, get rid of this guy already!" She winced while struggling to stand, and the Primeape grabbed the fainted Amoonguss, Seismic Tossing it away as hard as he could.[break][break]

Hideo's Lycanroc went from crate to crate, his nose glowing with an Odor Sleuth as he sifted through each pile of Pokeballs, pinpointing which ones were actually Pokeballs and which were suspicious Amoonguss.

Hideo didn't know how a two-foot-tall Pokemon could get mixed up with hand-sized Great Balls, but these Toxic Chain Pokemon were oddly crafty despite their insanity.

A few of them even tried to fight back after getting exposed - and they quickly met the business end of his Zarude's fist. Try as they might with their spores, they just wouldn't have any effect on a Grass-type.

Hideo let his Pokemon do their work, sneezing in the back; all these spores were really making allergies act up, and he already didn't feel well from proximity to the Toxic Chains.

He'd just have to bear through it - and remember to bring his Ribombee next time; he could really use some Aromatherapy right now.

- attack/defend against the AMOONGUSS.
- reference a pokeball type like a great ball. Note: Already at 20+ mochi
- use a GRASS-TYPE POKEMON.
- have a pokemon know & use the move, ODOR SLEUTH.
- if your character has participated in AT LEAST 3 POISON PATROLS, they may feel slightly unwell during this patrol; furthermore, your character may be able to discern that the TOXIC CHAINS do corrupt and imbue Pokemon with unique abilities...

"Furfrou! Odor sleuth!" she orders as the pokemon doesn't obey at first. It panics because it's beautiful coat was getting covered in mushrooms and melody frowns. Damn dog. "Primarina get it off of him please." she says as primarina unleashes an ICY WIND. [break][break]

The mushrooms on the creature freeze, it's coat protecting it from the ice as furfrou now can focus on sleuthing out which are the real pokeballs and the fake ones and barks to primarina. However, melody realized it was pointless due to how she battles. "Hyper voice!" she orders as the room reverbs and the hidden ammonguses started to shriek out from the attack.[break][break]

After the attacks slowed down, Melody bent over and found a beautiful dive ball that rolled to her feet. "Score!" she exclaims as suddenly she scoops it up. No one would miss it right? It would be a comission for this job.

Mr. Roche wrinkled his nose as he surveyed the scene before him. He'd expected a shipment of LUXURY BALLS to utilize in his next round of marketing, and instead he was greeted with the sight of numerous fungal pokemon mixed in with the cargo and a profusion of mushrooms growing on all manner of surfaces as a result.

Keeping a safe distance, he released Alban and indicated the melee with a disdainful lift of his hand. "Clear a path to our holdings, would you kindly?"

The Morelull uttered a tonal cry, hopping forward. His small body illuminated from within, growing outward in a DAZZLING GLEAM that vaporized the airborne spores nearby. Turning his strange, empty-eyed gaze upon the closest Amoonguss, he siphoned energy from it with a GIGA DRAIN that left the offending pokemon emaciated, toppling to the ground with a sound like dried rushes.

Above, the moon shone bright and silver. It lent an almost ethereal look to the scene before them. PCrate upon crate of Pokeballs gleaming in the sun. Fungi sprouted from surrounding lawns. The colors were strange, almost fey-like. Another volunteer screams as an Amoongus explodes in their hands. Mushrooms sprout from the fingers that had held onto it. Their cheeks look diseased as bulbous caps push through their skin. It is a truly disgusting sight.

Tiny lips press into an icy line. “You cannot just dig in there like barbarians!” She pushes the screeching idiot aside.

The blonde is attempting to corral the volunteers into some semblance of order. It was like trying to herd Liepard. People are shouting out their discoveries in this sector like the poison type’s discovery is a winning lottery ticket. Some fool has decided to tally the captures. Suddenly, the military supply mission is a competition. “Put zem to sleep first! Calm them!” Another crate top falls to the pavement. “Do not just dig through half the box! This is not a spot check!”

A sigh shakes the former officer as she tries to curtail these issues. Her boot jerks backward as a crazed fungus threatens to trample it. One of the volunteer’s Bolthunds was chasing it through the aisles. “Do not just—corral all of them into one area. It will be easier to remove the chains!”

Eventually, she is successful. With several steely companions—and a pair of long gloves—Lydia finally begins to sort out her own supply. When she finally finds a Foongus, she holds it aloft above Gattien. “Now!” A dip of his head severed the chain.

Lydia braced herself against the crate. Her vision swims for a moment. “Thank you.” One down and Arceus only knew how many to go.
