Noelani couldn’t help the snort of amusement that escaped him after all it had been said urge that allowed him to meet Sarah “I’ll keep it noted for next time.” was all he said though.

Things took a slightly different angle and tone after that even if he hadn’t meant to steer the conversation such a way. Her pessimistic comment did make him quirk an eyebrow before a crocked smirk over took his face as he spoke “Stay long enough in the pit and it starts gaining its own twisted charm to trick you.”

Despite wearing sunglasses his head almost instinctively turned to the skyline to hide the gleam in his eyes. Things and the words were getting oddly poetic and philosophical for his taste though and also coming way closer to home then he had expected. Thankfully there was a distraction as his companion made an exclamation. Snapping his head back towards Sarah he made sure to follow after her and catch her short battle with the magneton.

Though he was quickly distracted by an angry bark coming from Wikolia. Turning his head to her he spotted the Vulpix jumping away from the spot she had been standing on. The reason for why was revealed itself almost immediately as a Mud Shot erupted revealing that she had stepped on a Stunfisk. His Pokémon’s response to being attacked was to throw an Inferno on the ground type.

Before it could get it’s bearing after being set a flame the Stunfisk found itself getting bitten by Wikolia and then subsequently thrown at the wall. The Vulpix was unrelentless and pinned the wild pokemon to said wall with a stream of Flamethrower that she kept up while walking closer to the ground type. All it took was a motion from him to make her stop and seeing the downed pokemon Noelani nonchalantly shrugged his shoulder before throwing a pokeball at it.

Things had been sufficiently derailed but the alolan still felt that odd atmosphere that had settled meaning talk could once more circle back to heavy topics and while he was enjoying his time with Sarah Noelani wasn’t too sure he wanted to touch upon or bring such heavy topic to the forefront of his mind currently. Running a hand through his hair he asked the hooded woman “While I feel like getting a drink right now, I think I’ll grab dinner instead. I also suspect what you might say but still I know a place that sells pretty good late night food stuff if you want to come?”

Gullible was all Noelani could think as he practically bullied the stranger to dress up in a hula girl outfit. That and slight worry for the man if that’s how easily he got peer pressured into things. There was no room for guilt though after all the alolan had gotten someone else to join him in the mess. That’s why he had to resist the urge to fist pump and instead settled for a pleased “Great.”

Seeing as Doug had agreed and was preparing as well already Noelani used the time while the man went to change to plot with Kala. Crouching in front of the Bellossom he had quick conversation giving her quick bullet points knowing she would do the rest of the work. They had a trick where he watched her during performances and certain twirls and moves corresponded to what he should correct and pull off after making a base. Demanding thing to do but they actually had practice and he was able to do it almost naturally by now. He would still give a bare outline to Quinn so he could adjust but that would probably be it.

To caught up in his planning, he had kind of forgotten to give his name but that could be fixed later and Dough did already know him so wasn’t too huge of a problem. Once Quinn returned Noelani would clap his hands and turn towards the younger trainer “Right I just need to give him a quick rundown and if you are ready, we could do a trial run and adjust as we go.”

“Maybe some KalosLight, I’m feeling fancy tonight.” it was also on the steeper side in price when it came to beers but hey, she was the one buying them and he wanted see what she would do. Not that he would see as it seemed him giving out the ticket had risen Lex’s suspicions though he couldn’t blame her he supposed.

Shrugging his shoulders Noelani was quick to reassure her “There is no catch just wanted to see if it would spark interest” to see what type of thief he was dealing with was left unsaid but clear enough to understand. Pausing he took another identical ticket from one of his pockets “Also there were two tickets set as prizes and I got the second one as well just in case so not really losing anything.”

Knowing that wasn’t going to be enough Noelani continued after pocketing the ticket he had show off “It helps that nothing in the exhibit has caught my eye beyond just seeing them. Sure, the ruby Gyarados is shiny and a juicy one but it’s not the Solomon piece I desire. What I want is his first sculpture, a wooden Ursaring but it’s just a sentimental piece he keeps so it won’t be shown.”

As he walked through the crowd Noelani eyed his mark. The man dressed in semi formal clothes had made the mistake of taking out a rectangular case and checking its contents in plain view. A mistake to show that you are in possession of precious jewelry like that necklace had been. It was probably a gift to impress a date or the person he was in relationship with until of course the alolan had spotted it.

He walked behind the man and trailed him for a bit, waiting for the right opportunity. Noelani saw one when his target moved closer to one of the stalls just as a few people were passing it as well. Quickening his steps, the alolan strode past. As he was squeezing between the group of people almost mashing against the man, he was about to rob, his hand darted out and slid into the pocket of the target. Deft fingers took out the case and deposited in Noelani’s own.

Sometimes Noelani marveled at his own skills after all everything had gone off so smooth his target hasn’t even noticed the missing gift yet not only that but he had around three minutes of the timer left as well. Approaching the table, he noticed Lex already there as well. Being the gentleman that he was and because it was easier to gloat if you went second, he allowed her to go first and didn’t interrupt her as she presented the watch.

Rising an amused eyebrow at her he decided it was enough and the smartass comment was withheld. No need to be too smug about his win after all that hadn’t been the point of the wager. Taking out the case out his pocket he opened it and place it on the table. “My gift to you! Or well my haul. Nothing too fancy but I do think the jewels that make up the necklace are precious enough to put it above the cost of the watch.”

Chuckling good naturally Noelani added “So about those drinks eh?” though as he did, he took out the ticket for the spa and slid it on the table towards Lex “You can have this as a consolation prize and a bribe in order to suffer my subtle gloating I may do for the rest of the night.”

Well at least Wikolia had managed to evade the Golurk’s charge though sadly the Fire Blast the Vulpix had used hadn’t been effective as an attack as they had hoped. Seeing the Hex also get repulsed meant that there wasn’t much they could do so instead Noelani ordered “Dragon Dance then target the Golurk.”

That was the direction he gave to his Dragapult though the only thing that he said to the Vulpix was “Disable then Inferno.” knowing that that there wasn’t time for anything else considering that the Aegislash was about to slam into her. It made him wince but also glad she understood his meaning with that order because as soon as the Steel type pokemon collided with her after a cry of pain the Vulpix would attempt to use Disable before trying to clamp down on the Aegislash and bite down it’s edge while unleashing Inferno.

Noelani’s eye wearily darted to the Golurk that was glowing with energy but there wasn’t much he could do to distract him beyond what he had given to Makani. Said dragon type was enveloped with the distinctive energy of Dragon Dance. The draconic energy continued to flow through him but instead of unleashing an attack he floated up and prepared while tracking the movements of the Golurk.

The sparkle in the eye of the redhead Noelani saw as soon as he mentioned the prize almost made him grin. She was in, something she confirmed herself only moments later. He watched her go before refocusing on the crowd as a whole as he finished off the rest of his own beer.

A few interesting choices jumped out to him and with pleased hum he rose from his spot and moved to join the crowd as well. There was no trick part in what he was offering and both the ticket and information he had shared were real though he didn’t see the need to reassure any worries Lex might have had after she had already agreed to the wager.

Well, him only offering one ticket when he had two could be considered a catch, he guessed but it was such a minor thing and it was also why he felt comfortable offering one of them as a prize. That and the fact if it came down to it there was the fancy pocket watch in his pocket that he could fall back onto if he actually needed to win in the end.

It was time to get his head in the game though after all the clock was ticking and ten minutes wasn’t that long of time. With that in mind he closed in to one if his potential targets. It was time to get the ball rolling.

Noelani noted that his current companion simply observed the wallet instead of taking or looking through it. That mean she either was shy about it or wasn’t a career pickpocket so the wager he was about to suggested wouldn’t be too appealing but the prize could be.

Clapping his hand together just as Riri returned and landed on his shoulder Noelani set about telling Lex about said wager “Well how about a small game of who can bring back the most valuable thing. We go about through the crowd and in ten minutes we return here and see who got the best haul.”

Stopping for a moment the alolan offered a bit of his food to the Emolga before returning his attention back to Lex and continuing “Of course no wager is worth it without some tempting prize for the winner. So, what do you say if I win you treat me a few more drink and say you would owe me a favor if we ever meet again. Now if you were to win, I’ll give you this ticket here.”

Fishing out said ticket he showed it off to the redhead. It was a premium reward ticket for a two day stay at a traditional spa inn in Verdanturf Town. He knew that by itself was not enough so instead he would explain what exactly could make it tempting but it would also act as a test and allow Noleani to see where she stood on the thief chart.

“Also, interestingly enough the dates for said stay in the inn match up whit when an exhibit of famous sculpturer Solomon Traden will be in town. It’ll be showcasing his work and most importantly his crown jewel the ruby Gyarados.”

Noelani smelled weakness. Just looking at the green haired man he knew he would be able to convince him no problem. The alolan had to resist the predatory smile that wanted to form on his face as he spoke “You’ll do fine I’m sure. Besides dancing skills aren’t as important as the presentation and putting on a show is.”

Noelani then invaded Corbin’s personal space and threw an arm over his shoulder “Having partner dressed the same makes it a routine instead of just one odd man dancing along a tune. Besides I’m sure the kid would apricate the back up.” The last part was semi whispered low enough that only the green man would hear it. Was it mean of the alolan to use that angle? Maybe but he would not suffer alone.

Still there were the questions of Doug to addresses so that’s why Noelani shifted his attention and turned to look the younger trainer “Not handily but I can probably dig something out with a good connection. Personally, I think though the tune you were playing earlier could work just as well or something similar enough as it. It will be improvised dance though don’t have the gear to pull off proper clogging.”

Yeah, Noelani had dived deep down into the hole of performance dancing due his starter to know what it meant. No time to be embarrassed though instead he should embrace it and let the flow do its work.

The Truth Is Out There [Solo Wild]

Noelani had been down here for three hours already when he finally encountered something that might be the origin of the rumors he had been tracking. It turned out to be an Espeon using Psychic to pick up random debris and play pranks on passing pokemon and people by making shapes with said debris and pretending to be some sort of monster.

The wild Pokemon had been hostile at first when it noticed him but after releasing Wikolia and the Vulpix gave it a trashing it quickly changed its tune. Kneeling besides it Noelani asked “What do you say about a wager? We see about who can give the best scare to a pokemon or a person passing by. If I win, I get to capture you and bring you along and if you win, I will leave all the food I have on me and then bring you more for the next three weeks.”

It kind of wasn’t faire since Wikolia was next to him with embers escaping from her mouth but the Espeon agreed. What followed for the rest of the day was a fierce completion of them trying to scare a bunch of other wild pokemon. It was close but after a well pulled off combo from Octy and Haku pretending to be some eldritch monster rising from the depths and transforming into a flying abomination the Espeon admitted defeat.

Looking at it Noelani simply offered the pokeball to it and after a bit of final hesitation the Espeon extended a paw and pressed the button enveloping it in light as it got captured.

Noelani clicked his tongue in displeasure as he watched the Will-O-Wisp get blocked though he had to be quick on his feet as his pokemon weren’t allowed to fully pull of the rest of the routine he had ordered. The sight of charging Golurk might have intimidated other pokemon and even some members of his team but his Vulpix had experience and knew to keep a cool head so he instead focused on directing his other pokemon trusting her to evade.

Falling back on her usual tactic of blast first and try to evade while doing that the Vulpix tensed her legs and leaped to the side while simultaneously firing off a Fire Blast using it to not only try and attack the Golurk speeding towards her but also to augment her jump to side by using the moment she would have gained by firing off her attack while in the air.

Noelani wasn’t idle and quickly barked out an order to his Dragapult “Use Hex Makani and then pick up Wikolia for another try and bombardment.”

Obeying the order, the dragon used to his advantage having used Lock On previously on Aegislash and simply gathered ghostly energy and cast Hex on the steel type ghost without even looking at it directly. Instead, he focused on flying to where the Vulpix was an attempting to pick her up and carry her in his arms.

The commotion seemed to be a group of energetic Electrike passing by. Though one of them did seem familiar or at least it recognized Wikolia. Stumbling a bit, the wild pokemon gave out a bark before wearily eyeing the vulpix. Noelani’s pokemon gave a huff before turning away making the Electrike relax and bark out to its companion after which they moved away without trying anything else.

The alolan had watched the proceeding but he wasn’t caught up enough to miss the question that had been directed towards him. Catching up to the now revealed blonde until they were almost side to side Noelani gave out his answer “Main streets were getting a bit too crowded for me. And I wouldn’t call it nostalgic but well sometimes the urge to roam back alleys rises up in me as well.”

He finished off with a shrug as memories surged of running through back alleys and snickering alongside someone about the stunt they had just pulled, examining his prize after a successful heist, holding his side to stop the bleeding as a worried Hatenna applied life dew and a few others. Shaking off the memories Noelani continued “That and places like this reveal a lot about a city. In a way it lets you see the true nature and what lies beneath all the polish and glitter. So, it’s been helpful.”

“It is possible something did make them move or well the old man did say the leader of the pack had a grudge against him. If they had scouted the past couple of days, they could know he might be moving the Wooloo today so they moved the whole pack close buy to do one big hit.” was Noelani’s own added speculation on the matter.

Honestly it could be just as Skids said or what he himself had suggested after all it was a bit odd to see a whole pack just for simple raid on a farm. Though the reason for why could come later now it was probably better to think on how to approach this.

Tilting his head, he fired off quickly “Well we could try and send one of our Pokemon to provoke and challenge the alpha of the pack to come forward and then take him out. That one is risky though because he wouldn’t be obliged to answer as I doubt they are that kind of pokemon. The other is to somehow make them move from their spot and lure them somewhere. We could also wait for them to send a scout and when we spot it getting close we could have the old man start moving the Wooloo that would force them to come to us instead.”
