It felt good to be out of the cabin for something more celebratory and formal than the norm. It had been far too long since he'd worn a tuxedo.

Looking around he saw familiar faces and strangers alike having a good time on food and wine. A good time could have been had anywhere, but there was something necessary about hosting the event here.

Sootopolis was a town of magic. A town whose origins were even beyond the inherit lore of his home of Cinnabar Island. An island town built at the base of a Volcano was one thing, but an island town built inside a crashed meteor was something else entirely.

Much like Cinnabar Sootoplis had no land route to reach it and on this night there was no public means of travel by sea nor air. To be in attendance for this particular gathering, independent transport was mandatory.

For those of the League registered as Rangers; those who handled the disturbances and dangers caused around the region by wild and triggered pokémon, it would be no setback at all. From the outside of the Banquet Hall chosen, Sénon could just barely see the shadows moving against the twilight of the skies as Rangers from all over the region made their way to one location.

Coming from a such a special place it was no surprise someone who called Sootoplis home would go out into the world to see, to create, to accomplish special things. Tonight, the rangers of Hoenn would gather en masse to honor such a person, their Head and leader Laurence Anderson

Hideo felt out of place; he wasn’t a Ranger. He was probably also one of the youngest people in attendance, though he didn’t have the means to confirm it, and he wasn’t sure if there was anyone here who he knew.

But he’d gotten the invitation, and knew better than to refuse it. Had Mr. Ki arranged for him to receive it? He didn’t even consider he’d received it for his performance

Getting here hadn’t been too difficult for him; his recently-acquired Dragonite was more than capable of flying him here. The only challenge was said Dragonite was very affectionate, and would have to stay in his ball for the party, lest he wrinkle everyone’s formal clothing with his hugs.

So he sat at a table, sipping on some juice he’d been offered. He was dressed relatively tamely; a white collared-shirt with black shorts held up by striped suspenders, punctuated by a striped bowtie. Sitting in a seat next to him was Elga, his now-Beheeyem, whose only accessory was a black bowtie around his neck.

“See anyone we know?” Hideo asked. Maybe he’d be lucky and someone would notice him. He had no idea what he was supposed to do at this kind of party - as far as he knew, it was just people talking.

Hideo isn't a ranger yet, but I was told to post here so here he is

A straw hat landed atop Hideo's head as he questioned Elga.

"Guess who." Said a probably familiar voice, his tone making his ever-present grin almost palpable. "Hint: He's chaperoning you, mom's orders."

Hideo's mother certainly had some timing. Doug hadn't had any plans for the night, but that had been his plans. Free time was rare for him these days, so he welcomed the respite.

Nonetheless, if the youth was anything, it was responsible, so here he was. Spending time with Hideo was fun anyway- and hey, he relished any chance to wear a nice suit as haggard as possible.

"Didn't know you had signed up for the Rangers, kiddo." He said as he looked around, holding out a fist towards Elga for a fist bump, grinning at the gathered reception.

"So young, and already moving up in the world." He dragged a finger under his eye, flicking away a nonexistent tear. Not that his friend could see the gesture. "So proud... Let me know if their health plan is better, 'kay?"

Razz really... probably shouldn't be here. [break][break]

Sure he was a Ranger and has come to make an okay name for himself in the ranks, but his most recent actions had a few higher ups put him on small leave. Razz wants to think it's because of the injuries he had obtained, but there was that small feel in his gut that makes what happen seem suspicious. [break][break]

The other problem was that he didn't own formal wear. While he was able to scramble a decent collared shirt and vest, he only had black jeans and sneakers to match. Well the sneakers were blue with an orange trim, so it didn't really match the black and gray he had, but it was all he had. [break][break]

With the combo of these two things, and the large burse that splashed his left cheekbone not many seemed to be going out of their way to converse with him. Something he didn't care too much about, he was anti social enough that made this whole thing feel awkward to be at. As perusal Salem decorated his shoulder. After grabbing himself a drink Razz tries to maneuver himself outside the hall for a bit to see about getting a break from the crowd only to bump into Sénon Game and spill some of said drink on the older ranger. He really hated all of his choices.[break][break]

"S-sorry about that Game... ummm enjoying yourself?" he ask as his small way of pretending to mingle and totally not trying to just get a drink and leave.

A life of constant travel hadn't given Xander many opportunities to attend parties like this. In fact, he'd been to a grand total of zero before this one. Which explained why he wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion.[break][break]

His red and white striped jacket had been swapped out for a maroon one. He wore it overtop a plain white t-shirt. Which he hadn't bothered to tuck into his jeans.[break][break]

He sat hunched over at a table near the Banquet Hall's entrance with his face in his sketchbook. He'd taken to sketching the other guests as they arrived. It wasn't like there was anything else for him to do.[break][break]

Actually, that wasn't true - he could have been out there socializing. He'd go look for Sénon once he finished sketching. He was about the only person Xander knew at this thing anyway. Xander took a sip from his glass of rum.[break][break]

A) A mysterious and exclusive party honoring B) the mysterious, unknown (to her) head ranger, a party for which C) she qualified to attend? On a technicality? As a ranger? What a delight.

Of course Chryssa was coming.

She swept in like an awkward Cinderella with ten times the confidence, wearing a sleek, seafoam-green evening gown and a Piplup cap on her head. She wasted no time spotting someone she knew (Razz Kingsman ) and immediately going over to interrupt him. "Hello, Razz Kingsman," she said smugly, "I hoped you would be here. I have purr-viewed a rival for you: behold!"

The girl held up a deadpan female Meowstic, which was holding a letter of invitation in its paw. "That makes me basically female Razz now. I can steal your identity. Hello, sir," she said brightly, directing her attention to the man (Sénon Game ) her skeeball-boyfriend had been talking to, "I'm Chryssa Glasgow, Senior Ranger. I specialize in native Corsola research." That was a fancy way of saying she'd done one Ranger mission where she'd used a Corsola like fishing bait to draw out an underwater monster, but who was she to brag?

She had yet to notice Hideo Kino and his official escort of the day, John Sullivan in the Lonely Corner of Forgotten Dudes. Not being rangers, she hadn't been expecting them to be in attendance-- but again, nobody should have been expecting her to be invited either.

Elga scanned over the crowd, looking for anyone that he recognized. Just a whole bunch of people in suits, with the occasional Pokemon out, whether accompanying their trainers or helping run the event.

But his eyes soon rested on one person he recognized: chryssa glasgow , a girl he recalled Hideo mentoring with for a bit, who had a very distinct personality.

When Hideo felt a sense of familiarity - a sure sign from Elga that he’d spotted someone - he was about to ask who he’d seen, only to be interrupted by something landing on his head. He reached up to feel what it was, and immediately recognized the straw texture and the hat-shape.

Hideo grinned. He knew who was responsible before they even spoke: John Sullivan . Must have been who Elga was trying to tell him he saw.

“Gee, Doug” the boy said, a grin plastered on his face, “didn’t know my Mom even knew you well enough to ask you for that kinda stuff.” His hand moved under the hat, checking on his hair. The fly over here did a number on the hair his mom so readily prepared for him, and his half-assed comb-job didn’t exactly fix it. If anything, hat-hair would be an improvement.

He couldn’t resist laughing when Doug assumed why he was here. “Nah, not yet! I still gotta get all my badges first!” Of which he still had 0. “I got a few guesses why I got the invitation, though. I met a guy who offered to put in a good word with the Rangers for me. I told him to wait, but, well, maybe he just decided to do it anyways.”

Elga looked over at Doug, noticing the outstretched fist - and completely unsure of what it meant. He just kept to his spot, going back to looking around the crowd.

Hideo felt a wave of relief; at least there was someone here he knew. “So what about you, Doug? I know you joined the League, but you really just here to keep an eye on me?” It didn’t sound like he was part of the Rangers himself, but he was pretty sure this was an invite-only kind of party.

It was impressive how many people took to the dress code. Everyone was snazzy enough in their ways that it felt like a real celebration. Even the two youngsters he sent open invitations to; Hideo Kino (and John Sullivan after a conversation with cait alfric ). He couldn't tell which one was dressed the best.

As much as he appreciated their showing up Cait had convinced him against any attempts at mentoring. Through her words he'd come to see that lives were best lived without the machinations of the League tugging at them from such a young age; go figure.

Still the invites had already been sent and a good time was a good time for a good time if you were already there. So he sent over a waiter to get some food in them and/or their pokémon. It would be a moment before he could make it over to thank them for coming.

Unlike the two underaged invites, Xander Belmont belmont on the other hand, seemed just about ready for the push and the complications becoming a ranger would provide. Catching the younger man's eye for a moment, the elder redhead raised a glass to him; a subtle cue that he'd stop in on him a bit later. Jūken on the other hand, went over to sit with the man now; even maneuvering over his own chair despite his eyes barely coming over the table dressing.

A reception for Rangers, so to speak. Josh Dragomir was no stranger to needing to keep up appearances considering his various careers over the years. But unlike one of those jobs, he realized he had no real relationship with most of the Rangers here. There was his wife, Izumi, of course... And Thomas, an old friend of his. But neither had really been able to attend. One of them had to watch the kids today, between himself and Izumi, after all. And Thomas? Well, apparently he was in some kind of Elite Four or whatever now, rendering him too busy for the little people. Good for him, he supposed.

Either way, Dragomir had arrived in a nice black suit jacket, with a blue, collared and buttoned shirt. He did know how to dress to impress, that was one perk of the hats he'd worn. Perhaps now, if he could get past his social anxiety, he might get to know some of the people here... Or he'd just stand there awkwardly. That worked too.

Her other hand holds a glass of water, that she spills when she steps back to bump into someone. It sloshes and she gasps, turning.[break][break]

Orion arrives late, lingering uncomfortably on the fringes of a party that had started without him. He was here only to support Laurence Anderson and offer best wishes, but the Head Ranger was nowhere in sight.

He's lost in thought, scanning the crowd for a familiar head of spiked hair, when someone bumps into him.

"Sorry," he says automatically, though it hadn't been his fault. He turns sharply toward the one responsible just as her voice registers familiar and his shoulders relax. "Oh, Stormy, hey! You, uh, didn't get me, don't worry."

He grimaces sympathetically as he realizes that she had, however, spilled all over herself. From the pocket of his suit jacket, he tugs free the decorative napkin and offers it to Stormy Silph with a sheepish grin.

"Have you seen Lars, by the way? I've been looking, but..."

He does spot a few other familiar faces (Razz Kingsman, in particular) and waves if he catches their attention.

Unable to find Laurence Anderson Sénon moved through the increasing volumes of people until a most familiar face bumped into him spilling his drink. Rather than be upset at the dousing he was happy to see the younger ranger. Active in Hoenn longer than Sénon himself Razz Kingsman was as much deserving of this celebration as their leader.

He wouldn't let Razz hide from what he'd earned. "Don't worry about it King. Your companion matches your sneakers, I like it." He dusted off Razz' free shoulder rather than tend to the feint spot on his lapel.

Grabbing two pieces of beef jerky from the food platter he took a bite of one before offering the other to the Meowstic. "Mr. Salem." He nodded to the feline before being caught off guard.

chryssa glasgow was a ball of energy. Her excitement was infectious enough, he barely had time to shake her hand before he missed the window to do so. "Sénon Game. Kantonian Fish out of Water. Thank you for coming Chryssa!" Most Rangers being on the calm and cool side it was refreshing to meet one a bit more warm.

As if on cute even thinking of "warm" and "ranger" in the same sentence he saw Stormy Silph spill water on herself and discreetly grabbed a waiter's towel before approaching her and offering it.

The water is cold and it gets absorbed into her dress immediately, darkening it. She pulls at the collar awkwardly, frowning. But when she looks up, she sees the familiar face of Orion Lykos. He's talking to her and she finds herself smiling and taking the napkin he offers.[break][break]

"Oh! Orion, what's up, man? I'm glad you weren't victim to my clumsiness, what a relief."[break][break]

She chuckles, amused, before dabbing at her chest awkwardly. It doesn't do much, but the effort is put in anyway. And in the midst of her dabbing, another familiar face sprouts out of the crowd, offering her a second towel.[break][break]

"My goodness, I have two handsome men to wait on me hand and foot. How did I get so lucky?"[break][break]

Now double-wielding the napkin and towel, she shrugs and dabs with both of them together.[break][break]

Orion chuckles at her comment; little did she know that the councilman's attention was drawn more to the likes of Sénon Game than any of the ladies at the party.

"You're Sénon, right?" Though they'd never worked a job together, Orion was aware of the other Elite. Out of habit thanks to his day job in politics, he offers a hand to shake. "Orion Lykos; nice to meet you."

"Haven't been up to much besides work," he says as he turns back to Stormy Silph to answer her earlier question. His laughter is strained by the stress of the subject. "Drowning in it after the war, and all. How've you guys been?"

He indicates both Stormy and Sénon, not wanting to be rude in blocking the other from conversation.

Wow! Her first official Ranger gathering!

Eva couldn’t stop smiling as she weaved her way between plethora of people crowding the hall. The doctor never got to dress up much (she wasn’t one for formal affairs) but she was able to find this simple, emerald green cocktail dress at a local thrift store and she felt like a million bucks! Being brand new to the region, Eva knew close to no one here in Hoenn. She was ready to make friends and have some fun.

But . . . she was missing something. Eva tapped her chin, scanning the room from her vantage point at the top of a small flight of stairs.

Bingo! The blonde grinned, skipping down to the main floor and making her way to the bar, “Good evenin’, sir!” she greeted the bartender with a friendly smile, “Hope you’re having a nice night so far. If it’s not too much trouble, I’ll have an Old fashioned, please,” she slipped him a healthy tip and waited patiently for her drink, swaying to the beat of the live music.
