Last one.

She is a better surfer at the end of Splashfest than she was at its start, there's no doubt about that. But what had she sacrificed for it? What shred of pride had survived this ordeal for her to nurture back into its former glorious self?

Most of it, as it turns out.

After all, Skyler is an old hand at letting go of her dignity with nary a thought for the consequences.
