There's a particular nerve that hits upon greeting him and , though less so his conversation partner, and more... the name. It's a good nerve to hit, because if nothing else, Troy is forced to make one of two choices; ceasefire, or the alternative.[break][break]

"Ah, Calliope." He chose the alternative. This petty squabble slap fight they had was too fun not to. "I'm glad you enjoyed the samples. You are free to the bananabread as well." He says so matter-of-factly. She knew he knew how to cook.[break][break]

There's nothing wrong with branching out, that's true, but the fruity taste in his mouth feels incorrect. But at least figuring out the guy was into scotch. A gift for later he could easily find.[break][break]

Ah. Sweaters were his husband's idea. Troy sees the husband in question, eyes on and now, brow risen. "Ah. He's got the right idea." He can feel himself chuckle and-[break][break]

Cillian's questions of what he does for Rocket, Troy readjusts, and stands up straight. "Perfume and cologne shop in Mauville named Aromatherapeutics. After a deal with Miss , I help launder money for Rocket. I cook books, and my boss trusts me fully." Running a hand through his hair, he weaves fingers through his bangs, before continuing. "It's grunt work. But I wish to show my worth."[break][break]

"Yourself?" He asks, inquisitively, eyes shot towards @vanessa from the distance, glass still in hand.

“Praise be, for only terrible taste can show us the bliss of a properly curated list,” she replied in an almost customarily depreciative way. Though recently she was never really sure if it was meant to be self-depreciative in the same breath. Not like anyone had ever complimented her taste, after all. Not even this man had. They were united in their distaste, but that was far from being united in appreciation of something else.

Inwardly, she sighed. Yet another point of distance, wasn’t this? Still though, she had raised her glass too and joined into his toast, only for another person to appear and make his place between them. A man that was dressing up his Pokemon like himself. Or was it the other way around? Heh. One might never know.[break][break]
Sure, she could ask, but musing quietly to herself seemed more fun in that regard. After a brief chuckle to herself, she decided to spare the admin the hassle of trying to remember her name. Or, if he already had it at hand, he could just rest easy anyway. “Violet Fairbanks. I have been in Rocket for a good while, though I usually float around the science division.” She hadn’t quite seen the man there, so that would probably be explanation enough for why he had not met her yet.

And if he was in there somewhere, they probably just had missed one another anyway. That division of rocket was large enough to be quite sub-divided, after all. “Well, or I somehow get involved in those tremendous incidents with legendary Pokemon and the like. Though I do not claim to have any influence on those matters, just Hoenn being Hoenn, for what that is worth.” Then again, a lot of people in Rocket probably had gotten into those kinds of situations too. They happened a lot in recent years, after all.

The weird little metal thing blurbles and wails at Xenon incoherently for several seconds, bordering on a full minute, mindlessly spouting its own name over and over as it engages in a deep and detailed explanation of its origins. None could understand the esoteric wisdom he speaks as he tells the tale of Meltan village and his eternal quest for strength, a foreign language no human could possibly comprehend, possibly for the best of everyone.

Yet even though they do not share a common language, Xenon feels as though she can truly understand this brave warrior's soul as he flexes his gooey tendrils like arms and enthusiastically exclaims his name for all to hear. The ultramodernist stares blankly at the Meltan as he finishes his speech, little loading screens spinning in her eyes as she struggles to comprehend the words of a being so great and terrible as this mighty Meltan. And then.

"Meltan. Mel mel mel meltan, meltan mel. Melt mel mel melt meltan, Meltan Meltan mel? ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ Melt mel Meltan mel."

Translation: "I do not understand wisely what you are talking about, but I want to pursue the future like your steel body. Truly you are the most ultra-modern being worthy of respect." Or something like that. She then looks up at Shred with a smile and pats him on the shoulder. "I like Meltan, he's very ultramodern, very cool. I would kill you for him."

even with ice sewn into his flesh, is still the same man. he gives a casual glance to the newcomer; while he'd normally impose himself and glean what he could from someone jayden seems to know, he's distracted. his gaze darts back to the bar, where still pointedly ignores him, which wouldn't bother him - shouldn't - bother him, save for the fact that he's fairly certain she's not convinced he isn't here to kill her. 

yumi takes his attention and he sits just a hair straighter, lips suffusing to a smile. 

"because i have," he says and takes another sip of his wine. "but it's nothing of consequence." 

he waves his hand. he'd rather not air the current state of his enigmatic relationship with one in public. yumi and jayden could be confided in, but not without audience. 

still, he chuckles and crooks out his elbow. 

"may i tear you away from your hostessing? i hear there's an admin downstairs giving a poker table a run for their money."

AS THE NIGHT CONTINUES ON, Rockets intermingle, speaking freely for once while unburdened by shared responsibility.[break][break]

A heated poker game continues between , , and , while an intrigued looks on. Others enjoy the boba tea refreshments offered by and her Clefairy, where a crowd of , @vanessa, and can be seen sipping on their (presumably) non-alcoholic beverages. Others like prefer the harder drinks of , and others still make new acquaintances or reconnect with the old.[break][break]

Some, such as , choose to brood outside and avoid as much human interaction as possible. One supposes that there's room for everyone in the Rocket organization, even anti-social cryptids.[break][break]

Opinions are had on 's taste in "minty fresh" music. They are, apparently, quite mixed. 's "Ultramodern" playlist to follow seems doomed to invite just as much division among attendees.[break][break]

Sweaters, has found, are however a far less controversial fashion choice. Tis the season to sport them, indeed![break][break]

Xiura beamed, fighting down a blush as she saw Aurelie approach her with an array of appetizers. She was unspeakably touched by Aurelie’s thoughtfulness in gathering her up a plate of food; her stomach growled slightly, and she placed a hand to it as if to quiet it down like a grumbling Litten.

“Aurelie, you’re being too kind to me. Between the food—” She couldn’t help but immediately pluck a chive and aioli-drizzled crabcake off the plate and bite into it, her mouth curling up at the edges in pleasure at the vibrant flavor. “—And the compliments, I’m going to be swept away.” She said this lightheartedly, but felt the uncomfortable weight of truth behind her statement.

Trying to be friendly but aware of her sudden nervous tension, she reached out and playfully brushed a strand of hair behind Aurelie's ear. Then she blushed at the romantic way it might be received and took another appetizer from the plate. The tempura-battered shrimp was a light appetizer and delectably tender but it was still hard to swallow on top of how uncertain she was feeling, now facing her very beautiful and thoughtful friend.

“How did you know I’d be starving?” Xiura looked back at the bustling bubble tea bar, seeing as Clefairy and Hatterene served several patrons with their desired drinks. It had been hours since she ate last, now that she thought about it.

“To new beginnings and new adventures,” she said, taking a twin glass of coffee-flavored bubble tea and meeting Aurelie’s toast.

As the gifts were distributed and people started to open their mystery white elephant treasures, Xiura curiously looked at the fancifully wrapped gift she received before setting it down on a nearby table and carefully opening it.
For the overworked Rocket, a luxury spa gift basket of fragrant soaps, bath salts, essential oils, lotions, body butter, and creams. It smells fantastic, and after using it, you will smell fantastic also. (Gifter: )


Xiura looked around, wondering who had put together such a wonderfully thoughtful gift. “This is so nice! And there are so many things inside. Would you like to try any of the creams or bath salts, Aurelie?” She looked at her friend, her eyes widening upon seeing a remarkably familiar package in her hands.

Yumi shook her head at 's inquiry about , but before she could speak up, a woman she didn't recognize () joined them. 'Tori', Jayden called her. Yumi laughed, amused, at her blunt exclamation, then again at his retort.[break][break]

The casino's owner turned her attention back to as he cryptically confirmed that he had, in fact, seen a ghost. She raised her eyebrow at his sudden change of topic, but nevertheless slipped her hand through his arm.[break][break]

"By all means, tear away," she said.[break][break]

On the way, they paused by the enormous tree towering over the large pile of gifts. Staff were doling out the presents by random selection, and Yumi received a large box she suspected had clothing inside.[break][break]

Her suspicions were confirmed when she ripped away the wrapping paper and opened the box. She pulled out a black leather jacket, cut more for a man than a woman, with a Dratini design on the back. At once, her eyes lit up with the exciting prospect of a future project.[break][break]

"This is cute," she mused aloud, "but it would be cuter if it were made to fit me. I'll have to tailor it later." Stuffing the jacket back into its box, she handed it back to a member of her staff. "Put this in my office, please."[break][break]

priam takes a running start and them jumps into 's arms, never mind that he has the worse constitution out of the two of them. it wouldn't be priam's fault if oscar took off and then continued to not improve his health after all that time.

it is only after he crashes that he manags to turn his attention to . "thank you! i picked it myself!" he responds with eagerness. "i'll pick up one for ya if y'er interested."

he turns back to . "the offer's open to you too!"

in the midst of the reunion, priam notices people move to the casino's foyer from the main area. it's probably for the white elephant thing. the thought of someone getting his gift makes his smile stretch from ear to ear.

"well, that's only if ya didn't get my gift for the exchange! what didya guys get for it? mine's, like, super good, y'know. like a collector's item! if ya didn't get mine, the consolation gift's gotta be the sweater picked by yours truly, chosen to fit the personality of my dear friends."

maki has taken something of a backseat role in the party. rather than actively engaging anyone, she's mostly been observing while she enjoys the various amenities. gambling is unbecoming for a yukimura, so she's never been in a casino before. clad in a plain black suit with a white dress shirt, she's been wandering the halls. this continues until she's called for the white elephant gift exchange, in which she receives a lovely pen set. all in all, she supposes she got lucky; she does enjoy calligraphy, and her more old fashioned relatives would likely enjoy receiving physical letters from her.

she's about to go back to wandering when she spies . curious as to what he got in the exchange, maki changes course and heads over to him. she offers him a small smile and a polite tilt of the head. "hello, jayden," she greets him casually. "how have you been enjoying the party?" even though they know each other rather well, she keeps up with the usual pleasantries. etiquette is etched into her by her bloodline, and it's not something that's likely to come out any time soon.

Surely enough, drew away and Jayden nodded at the both of them as they retreated, making a mental note of their closeness. He had never known them to be particularly close before, but it was always nice to see integrating well into Hoenn's Rocket.

The Admin blinked briefly at the box that he was offered, before accepting it and unwrapping the gift. Surely enough, the contents of the gift were pleasing: a silk black scarf made of an impossibly fine quality.

[break][break] He knew the other rather well, considering 's longevity in Rocket, so her presence brought a polite smile to his face.

He doubted much would be going on though. Pictures of the LEague's own Holiday shindig were making their way to social media. Luckily, Mint had already scheduled a hot date with to cover his tracks. Can't attend a party if your guts ar ebeing rearranged and all. An easy enough cover. [break][break]

He stands back up looking over at Oscar and Calici. His eyes on the Vaporeon gets the water puppy to stop, only to excitedly slorp up the proffered boba when Oscar knelt down behind Mint's back. "I'll share in a second." he said already on the app and getting a link for the CEO. He lifted his drink to his mouth taking a few gulps before setting it down as he heard scream. "Prosecco is fine!" he said quickly before shooing off the man. "Go, go, go I got it!" not wanting to hold his friend back. [break][break]

For the moment Mint is content to hang by the boot with his Vaporeon, occasionally sending waves and laughs across the way to people he recognized form afar like , , and . But soon the music must be quieted but a bit to allow her announcement .Gifts were exchanged and he grimaced at how heavy his was before setting it under the DJ booth to collect at the end of the night. "Weird, but fits the prompt I guess." was all he had to say on the matter before the next performances take over the party. [break][break]

He claps along before making one final announcement on the boot before his break. "Alright who's got the Holly Jolly Spirit? The hand dealt to him is utter junk. 3, 3, 7, 7, 2. Looking down at the hand, he laughs out loud. It's a wide, innocent, carefree grin. He misses the kiss cam entirely as he pushes poker chips across the table. Not all, but a fair few. Enough where anyone who could see what was in his hand would mark him as a suicidal idiot. He simply rides the currents of energy.[break][break]
All the high human emotion traveling around the table like an electric current is lost on him. The ripples he understands.
