He's not sure what possesses him to EAT THE MOCHI.[break][break]

Perhaps it's the state of delirium inflicted by his close proximity to the TOXIC CHAINS. Perhaps he's simply growing bolder, experiments with the Ultra Beast toxins encouraging him to try a different flavour of stupidity.[break][break]

It tastes disgusting. Naturally.[break][break]

He can tell that it's POISONOUS by the way his stomach lurches, trying hard to reject the foreign interference. His mouth waters with the urge to vomit. Eventually, he can't hold it back, retching up foul purple fluid into the sand.[break][break]

He can feel Lugia's judgement even though she doesn't speak, her PRESSURE intensifying as she lands to guard him.[break][break]

"Science," he tells her defensively, ears ringing. "I had to know."

As if the Tinkaton situation wasn’t bad enough, now there was a problem involving…

Oh, shit. Wait. These Pokémon weren’t spiders, were… wait.

Wait, wait, wait, hold the fuck up, W A I T.

It was like his mind had shut down and gone offline, because the Rabsca were literally spitting out… yikes! Instead of a child Pokémon there were noxious, purple chains spitting out of the balls that they were spinning…

“Oh, come on,” he hissed quietly as he summoned his Blaziken, Guinevere, once more.

“Can you… take care of that?” he would ask the dual-type, who would let out an abrupt squawk of shock before darting forward, her Speed Boost ability kicking into play.

Barring that, he would watch in alarm as the ground she was treading on would suddenly sink out from under her; as a pit trap opened up on the sands that she unfortunately happened to step on!

“Be careful!” he would call out, suddenly dashing forward himself; an attempt to help his hapless Pokémon that had most likely gotten pulled into a Trapinch’s sandy trap.

He could hear the jaws gnashing from here…

He had vowed to put up his sword, but every time Preston thought that he could return to a blissful life of cooking, the chef found himself in a situation where he was forced to put up his apron and don a plate of mail.

"Acid Armor!" Fugu dissolved into acid to avoid the psychic strikes from the Rabsca, before quickly reforming from a liquid behind them insects. Fleshy tentacles wrapped themselves around the insect and squeezed, causing the chain to wither, die, and fall off like some revolting growth.

The chain dissolved into mist as the chef crushed it under his heel.

"Disgusting." Preston scowled at the glimmering remnants of Tera Energy. He looked up at the sky for a moment, frowning in thought. "What's causing all this mayhem?"

The Hoennian desert was one of the few areas where Andrea felt comfortable letting Sandy roam out of her ball. After all, her Sand Stream ability couldn't be that obnoxious when there was already a sandstorm brewing.

Far more obnoxious was the current infestation of Toxic Chained Rabsca. Their powers of mind over matter were useless against Sandy's heart of darkness, but they were nonetheless a nuisance.

"Hit 'em with a Stone Edge!" At her trainer's behest, the female Tyranitar let out a ferocious roar. Stones sharp enough to impale a man erupted from the ground, striking the possessed Bug types from below.

Damn. This was kinda actually fucked up, now that June got a good view of the situation. Those poor Rabsca thought they still had something to hold onto, something to clutch tight and nurture. Instead, those toxic chains invaded the safety of their weird caccoon things and infected the larva inside. And they were none the wiser, still hostile towards anything that got close.

It felt... wrong, do actually attack them. But, money was money, and they had already accepted the paycheck, so...

"I guess... we'll just help out everyone else?" She pointed to the rest of the trainers in the area, and Matchstick narrowed her eyes at them. They both knew the circumstances. How out of their hands it was. She flapped her wings hard, and created a Tailwind to help speed up the process. 

"Arceus, if you could pay attention to your little virus, that'd be real fuckin' nice..."

After nearly falling into a pit trap, Thea was very aware of the dangers the desert was posing, and she wasn't going to just let herself or Cass fall. "Zeus, give the ground a good shaking so we can see the traps. Gominha, be a dear and cover them for us!" She called for her Primeape and her Wigglytuff.[break][break]

Zeus made the sand shake with his ferocious Stomping Tantrums, while Gominha inflated herself and covered the immediate holes to Disable them and not hinder their movement.[break][break]

As she tried to manage the traps with her Pokémon, her attention was caught by Cass' words, and upon seeing what she had witnessed, Thea felt a prick in her heart. "Oh no... Poor thing..." Thea pursed her lips, and her sadness eventually turned into concern as Cass' pokémon charged in, but in the end, there was an opening for a Rabsca to approach the two of them. Calling for Zeus or Gominha was too late, as they were a bit too far.[break][break]

"Cass!" She held the forearm of her friend, trying to pull her out of the harm's way and improvising an Age Uke to try to block the incoming Pokémon, but—[break][break]

Suddenly, Hammy the Pawmo appeared in front of the two of them, intercepting the attack in an amazing feat of Agility. Belle, the Minccino, followed up with a swift Helping Hand, helping Hammy to fend the hostile Pokémon off and giving room for the two girls to slip away from the attacks.[break][break]

"Hammy! Belle! Good job!" She smiled fondly to her Pokémon, knowing she owed them one. "Cass, this is a bit too dangerous, but there are probably more Pokémons in danger... Let's go, but let's be careful too." She squeezed her friend's arm softly before continuing marching through the Desert.[break][break]

No one ever said that the life of a Pokemon Ranger would be all sunshine and rainbows. There was, like with any occupation, a darker side with assisting Pokemon wildlife. This was true for each of the emergencies that popped up throughout the Region. But this, Michael felt, was the sickening, twisted icing on top of a poison cake.

These poor, delusional Rabsca fought vigorously against anyone who dared to threaten their young. They had no way of knowing that the Toxic Chains had corrupted their young, killing them in the process. The cruelty of their fate made Michael's stomach turn and his heart wrench from the deep sorrow he felt. Was there no other way?

Remembering the villagers of Lavaridge Town, Michael hastily searched his bag. From it, he retrieved some Lava Cookies. There was hope for these Pokemon, yet. Maybe, just maybe, if he could cure these Pokemon of the poison that corrupted them, they would realize there was no life left in the orbs they carried.

The Ranger tossed some Lava Cookies toward the nearby group of Rabsca. With luck, his plan would work. And if not? He'd have to free the insect Pokemon of their suffering.

The horrors of these toxic chains had begun to wear down on her. it had been so much time already but they were unable to figure out what the fuck the source of all this was. [break][break]

"Rabsca.." she says as she looks upon it sadly, unaware of the fate that had befallen it's offpsrings. Her skeledirge wanders over to her side again, offering it's support to her as it uses DIG and decides to handle the rabsca on his own. [break][break]

Skeledirge digs underneath the rabsca, right past the pitfalls created by the TRAPINCH in the area as rabsca targets Melody instead and steals her speed but it mean't nothing. [break][break]

Skeledirge emerges from underneath the pokemon and sends it flying into the air as it uses TORCH SONG to burn away the chains on it's body in one fell swoop. After all was said and done she felt strange still. She gathered some rocks in the area and had skeledirge help her make a makeshift grave to honor the pokemon's memory.

Her last excursion into the desert had gone poorly. She blamed her companion—Axel Steele—for that fact. Not enjoying the feeling of being caught off guard, the veteran had blazed through a number of survival books on the topic. Then, Lydia turned to video tutorials. To build upon that expertise, she’d spent some time racing on neighborhood beaches.

‘There are reports of possessed Rabsca in the desert. Caution is advised.' Another panicked broadcast drew the veteran from her bed. After a few stretches and applying a heating pad, Today, the sands did not seem a threat. The veteran felt prepared to face the earthly sea.

A shaking hand is tucked around her side. An unexpected wave of nausea—common in these poisonous times—is swallowed down. Minerva stands beside her. Her normally perfect tail hangs lifeless at her rump.

“It seems ze cads are at it again.” Blue eyes stared out over the dimly lit sands. Eventually, her eyes settle on a distant Rabsca. There are no humans attending to its condition. “Let’s go.” With a nod, they force themselves back into war against an unseen, unknown enemy.

Hideo's own Rabsca could be pretty defensive over the orb it carried around; it was no surprise that a Rabsca driven mad by the Toxic Chains would be even more defensive, to the point of aggression.

But Hideo knew well how to a Rabsca fought; while his Espathra distracted them, darting across the field with its Agility-enhanced speed, his Diggersby went in from below, Digging into the ground, taking down Rabsca one by one as it emerged.

Hideo stood back, as usual. He had the same unwell feeling as every other time he went to one of these Toxic Chain attacks. Keeping his distance seemed to help keep the symptoms from getting too bad, and his Pokemon were handling things well enough without any more of his input.

Though he was caught off guard when his Diggersby emerged right beside him. Before he could question it, he felt it deposit a strange-feeling stone in his hand, before digging back into the fray.

Maybe he could ask someone what this was later…

- use a SPEED-RAISING MOVE OR ABILITY (Agility) Note: Already at 20+ mochi
- discover unearthed materials of DYNITE ORE, MEGA STONE MINERAL STRAINS, METEORITE OR METEONITE SAMPLES.
- have a pokemon know & use the move, DIG.
- if your character has participated in AT LEAST 3 POISON PATROLS, they may feel slightly unwell during this patrol

Toxic chained Rabsca were being a nuisance to the other people and wild Pokemon, so while other people were dealing with the insects, Elise and her Rockruff have a job to do with uncovering some materials. Alcryst digs around the sands with his paws and the ambassador does the same with using her digging spade to try to get some material to take back for research.[break][break]

With enough luck, the male Rockruff manages to find some Dynite Ore. He alerts her with a bark as the young purple-haired woman came to look at the ore itself. Pale hands take the Dynite Ore for her to examine, they probably would be useful for research on other Power Spots around Hoenn too.

Weary. He was simply weary.

Beau had been called to more sites of these outbreaks than he could reliably count over the preceding weeks, and each incident was worse and worse.

His stomach churned at the sight of the Rabsca and their corrupted larvae, and frustration boiled through him. He couldn't get too close to the affected pokemon to even attempt to help - he'd tried, and the malaise lingering inside him almost brought him to the ground.

Instead, he was relegated to commanding Finley from the fringes of the outbreak. the Garchomp DIGGING beneath the sand as easily as swimming through water, the violet fins sweeping through the loose dunes before erupting upward to stun and disable the Rabsca before their SPEED SWAP could take effect.

He fought to remain standing - how weak was he? Not even in a direct fight, himself, and yet the toll taken on him by numerous levels of exposure to these strange Toxic Chains was kicking his butt. If he wasn't careful, would he be one of the next ones chanting about mochi?

Arceus, he hoped not.
