Oh no, not Drifblim.

He'd come to see what the place was all about, this festival and all, before he brought his kids here. But he didn't know if it would be safe for kids with the balloon monsters there. And Izumi would kill him for bringing him here with the demon hot air balloons flying around. So there was only one thing to do. Josh took a deep breath as he pulled out a Pokeball and got ready, steadying his aim, watching their flight patterns... Patterns that reminded him of the movements of a paper lantern, as he prepared...

And then he threw.

With the hustle and bustle of the festivities echoing behind him, Jayden finds himself standing at the edge of a riverbend.

[break][break] His gaze, however, is not drawn to the happily mingling townfolk or the sweet-smelling pastries or even the shimmering trinkets that are displayed on some booths. While his other Team Rocket comrades take to the shadows, either engaging in their own private gossip or trying to ensnare an innocent bystander into their ranks, Jayden's interest is at the paper lanterns - and the soft glow of their shadows as they are lifted into the air.

[break][break] In fact, his gaze follows the various Drifloon and Drifblim that are in the air, and as his Shuppet cackles maniacally, sweeping through them with a mischevious glint in his eye, even Jayden feels drawn. Before he knows what is happening, a pokeball manifests into his hand and is being thrown into the air, breath catching, as his hope goes with it.

They are all of them gathered for the festivities, painting and setting loose their myriad papercraft lanterns, which rise into the endless expanse of the night sky in a delicate, leisurely dance as the wind and the heat of their burning wicks carries them towards the great celestials above.

Adrian himself has managed to put together an unremarkable lantern, setting it loose just as the others do, losing sight of it amidst the multitudes. It is adorned with Hoenn's native written language, transcribed and translated from his own New Year's wish.

Better late than never.

Above them the sky begins to play host to a swarm of Drifblim and Drifloon, attracted to the vibrant display, taking a liking to the airborne crafts. Though oft timid, the swarming species' interest has been aroused at the craft built in their likeness, and so they are more brazen in their approach. Many trainers are tempted by this rare chance, and though Adrian does feel the itch, it's unclear whether he follows through with the act of capturing.

Without regard to these interactions the sky is illuminated with a brilliant display of some thousand-thousand lanterns, all of them carrying the dreams and aspirations of those who tended them, blowing away in the four winds.

Okay, that was rather alarming.

Considering that there were some traveling Pokémon among the actual lanterns in the sky, he wondered what had attracted them to the festival in the first place.

What if they start kidnapping kids?! Lars thought to himself, looking up and wondering if it was possible to take aim and try to thin out the herd. Of course setting them on fire was out of the question, the entire place was littered with these lanterns as well.

No way am I going to be responsible for a literal inferno around here, he continued as he reached into the sleeve of the garment he was wearing and took aim towards the sky. He wondered if he would get lucky with one Pokéball throw?

Melody had decided to show up to Oldale town for a concert she had booked, she was the opening act for the festival and was extremely excited to be there. So much so she decided to get there early and spend some time looking around. An older gentleman called her over to participate in the festivities and handed her a paper lantern. She was told to write a wish on it and melody was stumped for a few moments...she originally wanted to wish for success in her music career but as soon as ink was about to meet paper she stopped herself. Telling herself something surprising "No.." She didn't want success due to some god granted wish but with her own two hands. [break][break]

She instead wrote a different wish and kept it to herself, writing "peace" on it and lighting it before raising it to the sky

"Thank you," the ranger nods as he receives the paper lantern pattern that his cats had picked out. Personally he still didn't get the idea behind the whole thing, but it looked pretty? So why not, besides it got his cats excited, especially at the idea of decorating it a little. It wasn't much but they did offer some crayons if they wanted to doodle a little thing or two. Razz watched the two cats picker at each other as the evening went on before settling on a silly face. [break][break]

Still having his fit of phobia of fire Razz stays back as he allows Salem the responsibility on lighting the thing. Though he was a tad confused as to why the cat decided to attach a pokeball to the end of it. Maybe he was hoping that one of the driffloon would end up bonking into it. He doubted it, but he'll let the cat dream.

"How pretty" Chloe said, bright brown eyes fixated on the dark night sky which was luminated by the glowing lanterns. Lanterns weren't the only things floating around in the sky, gaze shifting over slightly she watched with amazement as plenty of Drifblim also hovered about, to Chloe they were such curious pokemon and she saw no real interest in trying to capture one - but there was no harm right?

Twirling a pokeball in her right hand she awaited for the perfect chance to chuck it at a nearby Drifblim. "Let's test my luck shall we Twinkle?" The ribombee floated near Chloe's shoulder, watching the lanterns and drifblim with excitement and gave her trainer an encouraging nod. With a grin Chloe chucked a pokeball at an unexpecting drifblim.

"They should really switch over to synthetic inks," Zac said, reluctantly painting a big 'space' symbol on his lantern. He added a few stylized stars and blew on the ink, drying it for the flight upwards.
"Looking good!" he said, attached the construction to his two Minior. "May not the the prettiest or the earliest, but damn if it isn't gonna be the highest."
He added the candle and set the lantern free, watching as the two Minior pulled it up to the edge of space.
