The puzzle was solved, and at last it was time to move forward. It seemed as if the path ahead was a tad cramped, so Rocket would have to get real cozy with each other to proceed. Oscar hung back, waiting until he spotted someone he was comfortable getting squeezed through a tube with. The only person who seemed to have room was Chu-e Choi , which was fine by him. Oscar took a single step forward before a realization nearly caused him to shit himself.

Oscar whipped around, holding Genesect's red ball out toward it. He opened the ball just in time, as the cybernetic assassin was about to turn its head and spot Chu-e. Genesect disappeared into its pokeball, narrowly avoiding the conga line of Rockets receiving a Techno Blast up the ass. That would have been embarrassing. Oscar exchanged Genesect's ball with a different ball on his belt, opening it to release Navitas the Xurkitree. Navitas lowered itself, allowing Oscar to hop onto its spikey head. Oscar pointed forward, "Keep up and above that weird hat. Double time."

The eccentric ultra beast sped off like a demonic spider, latching onto the bamboo to raise itself several feet above the marching Rockets. Using its wiry tendrils, Navitas followed its master's orders and stayed above Chu-e's wide brimmed hat. It moved from stalk to stalk, like an eldritch monkey with four tails. Eventually they too reached the strange Growlithe shrines, and Oscar raised an eyebrow as he watched others grab small trinkets from their mouths. Oscar pointed to the nearest shrine, "Grab me one of those." Navitas whipped a tendril toward the mouth, delicately clasping a fortune with its claws before lifting it to its master.

Oscar grabbed the tooth and read it to himself.

declan walsh was confident, pushing them onward. she watched as he became whisps of darkness, and glimpsed a strange reflection. for some time, she’d suspected that he was looking for something—and they were all pawns, in his search for it. share much as they might, she had no trust for him.

the membrane parted with violent animation. unown ripped open the gates via passwords. was this some kind of code? a program? she wondered about a digital influence, drawing a line to the soiree’s glitches—but her thoughts were instantly derailed by the other side.

her smirk neutralized. she looked around, and like others, her attention quickly homed in on the statues. then, on their words.

already dead. her theory thrived.

she turned her chin towards Kano Iyona . ”looks that way, maybe.”

then, Violet Fairbanks posed a very interesting point—but her response was just as simple. ”very well could be.” for now, she was all observance, and little input.

THEO BECKETT ’s question, and Remi Cassel ’s laughter were practically whispers on the air as she stared down at it. after a moment, her number was flashed with a shrug.

the bamboo stalks seemed exaggerated in their endless height, with a density that gave them no sight ahead. it was like a dream. suspense was a rock in her chest, and she took comfort only that darkrai was close.

her hand touched nothing. she watched others as they felt the carvings.

He managed a grin at prince garrido at the compliment, trying not to let it go to his head, cute as he was. Everything then sort of fell to the wayside as progress is made. As rockets step through, Mint moved forward with the rest of their unit following Walsh's lead. He's honestly surprised they're leading the charge. But that thought doesn't last too long as the area forward is revealed. "Signs of humans here before us...text we can understand." He murmured before watching as the stream shifted to someone else's eyes. Wait! Ugh- "@kris at least make your porygon give us a bird's eye if you're gonna mess with the streams!" He hissed before looking around making mental notes. Oh well, at least his glasses were still recording. The more footage the better for later, right? [break][break]

Following the Chu-e Choi 's lead he grabbed a fortune for himself. His Abomasnow followed suit. "The horns are kind of cute too, right Eris Halla ? Not your usual lotto ticket." Weirdly enough. He wondered what kind of bone they were. Or was it just old rock? He looked at his number before looking at Stracciatella’s as she held it up for him to see. [break][break]

As people continued forward, Mint gestured for her to follow and keep pace with Chu-e, Rayne, and Prince. Though, he can see the little blonde close enough to at least shout at her as she followed along with Bryan. [break][break]

“Kind of weird that there have been people here before us.” He said out loud looking over at his companions. “And it feels old but also like…we’re expected? Who just leaves fortunes laying around unless they’re expecting people?” While others investigate the rumbling, Mint’s head is on a swivel as he prepared to support the group again. His pokemon is ready to unleash the 9th circle of hell on the first sign of a threat.

Finally they would be exploring the mysterious tree that appeared during the events of the Sootopolis take over. Serena had trained hard for this. Worked herself to the bone so that repeats of that disaster wouldn't happen again. She'd been doing better...mentally that is. With help from her brother and Rowan Wrynn, hell, even little Eris Halla cheered her up a bit. Things were starting to feel....normal again. [break][break]

Or at least as normal as they could be. [break][break]

What she hadn't anticipated is overwhelming bitter feelings to momentarily leave her paralyzed upon reaching the base of the tree. Images that had haunted her since the day they happened appeared in heightened impact in her mind. A cold chill ran down her spine as her hands curled into fists at her sides. [break][break]

She missed the mini speech Walsh gave and even hung to the back as vines and whips formed by the tree attacked her comrades as they attempted to breach the tree's defenses. Those that were able used unown to crack the tree's code and all the way Serena stood frozen still. It wasn't until Walsh's congratulatory clap sounded across the masses that Serena seemed to be 'snapped' back to her senses. [break][break]

A deep frown crossed her features as rubbed at her temples. This was already shaping up to be disappointing on her part. She'd swore she'd be better, be stronger. She'd be damned if she didn't deliver on that promise. She followed the team deeper into the tree's labyrinth, Walsh's words echoing in her ear. [break][break]

She followed the group as they approached stone statues that stood in their way. Everyone began to file in to pick their own piece of fortune. Serena waited till it was her turn to do so as well. Reaching into the mouth of the stone beast she pulled out her own fortune, eyeing the number before shoving the item deep into her pockets. [break][break]

"Ash." she called out as her Doublade popped up from her side and found themselves in her hand. The bamboo was too thick here and in order to venture deeper into the forest they would need to cut their way through. Serena wasn't of much help before and she wanted to make up for that now, using her tools to carve a path for the team with the rest who had the same idea. [break][break]

PAYDAY & BAMBOO

BEFORE EVERYONE ENTERS THE WOOD, a PAY DAY from priam conrad's ESPEON scatters into the mouths of the the curious stone statues. The intensity of this unexpected generosity is heightened by bryan delarosa's AUDINO. As coins slip in, the statues seem to spill a few new coins out in gratitude. Although they are not Hoennian currency— they spit out circular cuts of jade. Remi Cassel's TEDDIURSA manages to pick up several of these jewels with PICKUP, granting priam conrad, bryan delarosa and Remi Cassel a bonus 50 PD.[break][break]

ETCHINGS AND VANDALIZED BAMBOO STALKS are not uncommon. In popular tourist spots around the world, bamboo forests are scarred by lovers carving their initials in hearts, copy-pasted adages, poeticisms that attempt to be clever or sentimental, involving many moons and suns.[break][break]

Nevertheless, Cossack Kurama, Martín del Mar, prince garrido, Raphael Pryde, Cillian Quinn, Chu-e Choi, Eris Halla, Remi Cassel, and Adrian Malcolm will see an odd symbol carved into their stalks. Some of their bamboo stalks feature large cuts: ones presumably made by a finer hand, while others seem to be collateral damage from wider swings of some blade. However, Eris Halla and Remi Cassel possess a different etching spread across their two segments of bamboo: "IT SUSTAINS IT" / "SELF WITH ITSELF"[break][break]

Around them, trainers and their Pokemon clear as much of the bamboo as they can. Stiff segments of jade clatter against other stalks and the forest floor, especially after one deft PSYCHO CUT from Alexandra Briarwood's SPECTRIER. Cleared segments of wood allow Violet Fairbanks and Rowan Wrynn's TOGEKISS & PELIPPER to reach higher heights; however, it is Rowan Wrynn's PELIPPER that manages a glimpse of something large and moving in the distance. A large stripe of red that flicks into its sightline before disappearing further into the tree.[break][break]

The rumbling stops.

MISFORTUNE

THE BAMBOO FOREST SHIFTS AND SWAYS OMINOUSLY AROUND YOU. While some coast in with pets like Killian Decker's HISUIAN GROWLITHE-LIKE DITTO, others choose more unorthodox partners like @kris'S PORYGON-Z. But as the last Rocket members enters, the opening behind them begins to "close." Bamboo stalks shift through the dirt and soil like reed snorkels shifting through a Pastorian swamp.[break][break]

The bamboo forest grows windier. Stalks smack against each other as a gale forces any airborne Pokemon to return closer to their trainers. While mint frost's ABOMASNOW attempts to prepare a BLIZZARD for the source of the rumbling, Cillian Quinn's SHADOW MIASMA begins to swell across the floor.[break][break]

Those with fortunes with the NUMBER FOUR would find that their horns have crumbled into dusty sediment. Violet Fairbanks and prince garrido have been MARKED FOR DEATH, for the bamboo forest requires sustenance. Furthermore, misfortune is contagious. Those possessing fortunes closest to theirs, will find their horns turning to dust immediately afterward. Kano Iyona, @rayne, Martín del Mar and giona ferrara are targeted as well.[break][break]

@rayne's PINCURCHIN and its ELECTRIC SURGE destroys a weakened set of bamboo stalks (NATURAL OBJECT). It exposes one of their assailants: a savage looking creature with obsidian protrusions. At the end of its limbs, large stone axes hang. Large chips in their rocks are stained with blood.[break][break]

The bamboo forest begins to roar into life as the creature rushes for him with a cry. Five other cries, similar to this creature's, pierce the air.

ASSASSINS

THESE MANTIS-LIKE ASSASSINS leap from stalk to stalk, using the density of the wood to mask their positions. However, evading them won't be easy. The bamboo forest begins to collapse in on itself. There is only one single dirt path that remains before them, making sharp turns which diverts into new branches with the shift of bamboo.[break][break]

Should a trainer and/or their Pokemon get caught in the bamboo slamming into each other, they will surely be harmed or killed.[break][break]

Therefore, to advance safely, one must contend with the unpredictable shifting of the bamboo wood. Those unlucky enough will need to contend with THEIR ROCK MANTIS ASSAILANTS. As the syndicate runs, the bloodthirsty creatures leap for their targets (Violet Fairbanks, prince garrido, Kano Iyona, @rayne, Martín del Mar and giona ferrara) with the move, STONE AXE.[break][break]

Sirocco weaved through the openings in the bamboo, managing to find themselves a vantage point high enough to discover the peril ahead. "AW AW AW!" The Pokémon mewed, alerting Rowan that there was indeed something causing the rumbling. "Sirocco found something." He relayed the information to Cillian Quinn and Adrian Malcolm as they continued forward.

The bamboo swayed more violently now, seemingly alive with the intention of swallowing them whole. "Shit, Sirocco, come back!" A red beam of light allowed the Pelipper to escape near-injury, secured in the safety of his Pokéball. "We need to run!"

A hand reached towards the orbs at his belt, grabbing another and throwing his Golisopod ahead of them. "Goliath, carve a path!" Rowan didn't care for being respectful of the forest at this point, allowing the Pokémon to begin slicing through the bamboo that stood in their way with repeated applications of Fury Cutter, using their naturally strong carapace to ward off any attacks in the process.

They needed to reach the end of this onslaught before one of them ended up seriously harmed, or worse.

Rayne had ushered the other Rockets close-by to himself—prince garrido and Chu-e Choi—"c'mon, c'mon!" he'd tried his best to lead the two away from danger, though, in all honesty his hands were full keeping the feral stone demon off of himself and those close-by, and he'd been trying to run them anywhere he could that looked safer than the place he was in right now. The way the wind blew around left Serena with a chill that was reminiscent of Snowpoint's icy winds. Something didn't feel right. With the gruesome training bryan delarosa had put her through Serena's sense had become more astute as a result. The bamboo around them shifts and bends threateningly and Serena's gaze narrows as she grips the handles of her doublade tighter. [break][break]

Suddenly the wind begins to pick up causing Serena to shield her eyes as the loud smacking of stalks surrounds them. The bamboo seemed to come alive as they thrashed against one another violently causing Serena to halt her advances into the dense forest. Nearby she catches sight of @rayne's pincurchin destroy a set of weakened bamboo. [break][break]

Doing so revealed a particular savage looking beast with axes for limbs. Time slows only for a moment as the two stare down at each other before the forest around them roars to life at the beck and call of the assailants. The creature begins to pursue him and Serena is shocked into movement. [break][break]

As these creatures move between bamboo stalks causing the forest to seemingly cave in on itself. If they got caught in this they would be done for. "MOVE!" Serena shouts to those that might be around her before she lunges forward and dashes off herself. They needed to cut a path through the forest now more than ever. [break][break]

Serena tries not to panic as she feels the adrenaline kicking in. Bryan's teachings ring back in her ears as she sucks in a sharp breath. "On my mark Ash!" she commands as she gains speed spinning the blades in her hands before Ash uses FURY CUTTER on the stalks blocking their path. Her aim? To tear through the bamboo barrier by force as quickly as possible so the rest of the team can get out of here safely. [break][break]

Looked like hiking up and down Mt. Pyre for half a year was about to pay off. If whatever they were running from didn't catch up to him first, that is. "Ya don't have to tell me twice," Adrian mutters under his breath as they break into a sprint with Rowan at the fore while Adrian carries up the rear, Smeargle at his side. "Stay with me!"[break][break]

Although the forest remains a blur as he chases after Rowan, it's inevitable that he should see the ax-bearing creatures halting their forces where they are engaged. Daunting obsidian guillotines thump against the earth, bamboo and perhaps even flesh in a cacophony drowned out only by the sound of the forest closing in all around them. Running forever wasn't really an option, but fighting?[break][break]

Anyone would want to know their enemy before trying to match their strength.[break][break]

Smeargle's tail left a trail of paint against the ground and bamboo wherever they turned a corner, but otherwise remained inactive in the fighting for lack of useful moves. During the rush Adrian wouldn't have time to recall it and send out a different pokemon. Should it be required however, Adrian had an idea how to handle 'em.[break][break]

so, they had currency, presumably. some of the jade material seemed to be in the shape of coins, given from a statue carved by tools, engraved with a language that was theirs, oddly enough—unless it was some kind of illusion. so, was this a parallel place, or simply another world to which humans had ventured before?

Proximity to prince garrido and @rayne allows Chu-e to see the beasts.

"What in the fuck are- Everyone! Move forward!" Chu-e stays in place, actually takes a few steps towards them. A good leader made sure those under you made it to safety, so Chu-e is resolute to ensure that those around him will make it to safety. Chu-e will allow others to push past him.

@rayne has the right idea, Chu-e thinks, as a Gravity settles over the area. If they can slow the creatures down without impeding themselves, they can get away easier. Sugar is called back and Fiesta is called back out, the Mr. Mime at the ready.

"Copycat!" The Mr. Mime's glove-like hands glow briefly as he mimics the movements of the Dusknoir, the moving turning into another Gravity which further weighs down the area. Chu-e hopes it's enough to slow the assault or even suck the strange creatures back further.

It is only after Rayne, Prince, and the other people around him and his grouping have past him that Chu-e books it down the path himself.

Gavin halts when the strange creatures burst forth from the bamboo; like Chu-e Choi, he prioritizes the safety of those who followed them. He was not under direct attack, his gaze snapping to someone that was: Martín del Mar.

A sharp whistle cuts through the din. Two clicks of the tongue, and Gavin points at the rock mantis.

Niamh the Lucario turns sharp on her paws and lunges between assailant and intended victim, the shimmering energy of a PROTECT morphing into a dome-shaped SANCTUARY as the energy of her Z-MOVE takes effect. Hopefully it would be wide enough to cover their path, at least for a moment.

A temporary, protective dome rises around all creatures within the vicinity of the user, protecting against all attacks including z-moves. Within the dome, ongoing attacks and status conditions are neutralized briefly.

"It won't last long! Keep moving!"

Amber eyes find those of his brother, Rowan Wrynn, and flick to their partner in Adrian Malcolm. Rocket's underboss seems alarmed but determined.

"I'll catch up!"

Only when he's assured that no one is left behind does Gavin turn and bolt after his allies, breathing in miasma that floods his veins with adrenaline and quickens his pace.

the forest yawns around them and allrianne clutches the horn in her hand. she watches others around her. when things start shifting, she and pakhet take in whatever details they can - some horns start to disintegrate, shadows leap at the edge of their vision, and the way behind them snaps together. bamboo thwacks against bamboo and allrianne snaps to look at the horns in killian and lex's hands.

both of theirs are still intact. she cinches the horn to her belt and gives a command to pakhet. the decidueye holds up the rear of the trio, bow drawn and ready to spirit shackle any assailants that dare strike them.

"our only way now is forward. pakhet will cover us, but i'm not looking for charity work," she says as she jogs alongside her companions.
