So much for a beach vacation, Or, well, beach work. It was opening weekend at a festival, and his sis thought he could handle a stand on his own. Which, on a typical day, he totally could. But not when a Weezing blew up the stall. The blast throws the brunette back. Shrapnel—mostly in the form of baked goods—rains down around him. A splinter the size of a butter knife embeds itself in his upper arm, a fact he wouldn’t notice until later.

As he shakes off the ringing in his ears, Scotti climbs woozily to his feet. His entire being is on edge. “Where’d it—” His initial urge is to defend himself. To respond with an attack and a stern warning. But all that’s left of the Poison type are a few shards of exoskeleton and a pulsing purple chain. “Oh no. What a way to go. He could have asked for—” Then, he sees another one bob its way around the corner. The screaming started.

And the Weezing is lighting up like a Christmas tree. At first, he goes for Jangle. But he doesn’t want to hurt the thing. It looks like someone already did that. Not to mention its eyes are reluctant and terrified. Instead, he grabs a relatively new ball and tosses that out. “Moo!” The Camerupt turns to him with a slow blink. “Put that gas cloud to sleep!” A Yawn stops the poison-type in its tracks.

A gentle hand ruffles the cow's velvety fur. “Thanks,” As he goes to check on it, his feet stick on something weird. When he pulls his foot back, its covered in purple mochi. Eew.

Andrea's seemingly never-ending patrol for infected Pokémon brought her to Slateport City's derelict outskirts, where a bunch of Weezing with Toxic Chains wrapped around their connecting tubes spewed poisonous gases all over the area.

The young PokéManiac approached one of the mutated balls of gas, but when its conjoined body began to emit light, she knew exactly what was coming up next. "Barron, Protect!" She cried out, her Aggron creating a barrier to shield them both from the ensuing blast.

Expecting to find a fainted Weezing after the explosion, she instead found a gruesome pile of sludge and gore parts smeared over the pavement. "No way, it's de--" Andrea put a hand over her mouth, holding back a vomit reaction.

If only she'd come there sooner, or if she hadn't intervened at all, that Weezing might've still been alive.

Anything to help around Slateport and Knight was right there with his 'mons! He had heard about some weezing and koffing causing issues at the abandoned warehouses (okay, maybe he had been eavesdropping but shhh). So as soon as he was able to, he had hurried over with a few of his Pokémon to see what he could do.[break][break]
Other people had gathered with the same intentions, and Kay threw himself into the fray. He saw a small cluster of scared Pokémon and gestured to his own, "Harrow, Fitz, help direct those Pokémon away from danger and let's get them out of here!" Knight hurried over with his Farfetch'd and Charcardet but as he reached the 'mons he saw a weezing nearby.[break][break]
Shoot... He hoped he could have done this without drawing too much attention to them but the other 'mon slowly turned and caught sight of Knight picking up a few helpless Pokémon. "We have to get out of here, now." He warned his own 'mons and the ones they were rescuing.[break][break]
Kay and the others made a break for it just as the weezing decided to use self-destruct. It flashed a few times and Knight felt the explosion behind him, which flung him forward a few feet.[break][break]
Dazed, Knight coughed a few times and then checked on the 'mons he had been trying to rescue, "Is everyone okay...?" He glanced back to where the weezing had been. Well, at least that was one less rogue 'mon to deal with. He checked himself over too but aside from some scratches and bruises, he knew he was going to be okay.[break][break]
With a determined nod, he got up, "Come on, let's get away to somewhere safer..." He looked over the surrounding scene and, after a few moments of hesitation (should he go back? help more?), led the way towards safety.

It seems like Shalin's gift has not only been able to help Lutgarde to be more flexible on water routes, but also in time for another occurance of poisonings. Their heart breaks at the sight of the Weezing self-destructing one by one by now, without any inhibitions or care ...

"Please, sing a lullabye for me," they ask the sea prince by their side, and frankly ... yeah, they still haven't decided on a name. There's the Sylv variations they quite favour, but ... given that Sylph is a flying type, and now it's a water type, so Nereid ... ... it's truly a tragedy to break with old naming patterns, but it might also be fun.

The Primarina, unbothered by his trainer's turmoil, starts singing beautifully, putting some Weezings around him to sleep. It's a pity Lutgarde and Sylv could only hear the voice through earmuffs, or else they might fall asleep, too, which ... might be a bit unfortunate.

PROMPT use a move that inflicts sleep.

They had barely stepped into the warehouse's confines before an explosion rocketed through the area. Nenet ducked down to protect her head as a shimmering Protect only-just shielded her and Clefable from the shrapnel of the blast.

The Pokemon looks to his trainer as she looks at him, and with a huff she agrees after a span of silence, "Not today."

Nenet reaches out and holds Clefable's hand, and together they teleport away.

From outside, a loud bang was heard all throughout the city. The abandoned warehouse that was now housing several Weezing and Koffing was filled with the same toxic chains that was spreading across Hoenn like a plague. Just like many trainers, Noel responds by jumping head-first into the foray. Inside, the foul stench overwhelmed him, causing him to cover his nose, although this didn't help too much. Up ahead, a lone Weezing was acting quite suspicious.[break][break]

Its body bloated larger and larger, a light was shining from within its body that could only escape through the holes scattered across its frame. It was beginning to Self Destruct and an explosion like that would cause a chain reaction with others should nothing be done. Noel sends out his Braixen out which promptly constructs a Magic Room around the ticking timebomb. Then it erupts, a violent outburst that almost breaks through the barrier, instead splattering its remains onto its magical walls.[break][break]

Noel puts a hand to his mouth, his body shuddered with his knees growing weak. He forces himself to look away, but the smell reminds him of where he is. It was too late to save this one. Slowly he regains his composure, saddened eyes taking one last look at the remains of the Weezing. He would have to do better than this so that the same thing wouldn't happen twice.

Lightheaded was not a good look on him, but Beau's options were limited. So many toxic pokemon in such a confined space were bound to cause difficulty breathing - and in some corners of the warehouse, seeing - but he and Nemo were doing their best.

Squaring off against a pair of Weezing, Nemo's water-based attacks had made the surroundings DAMP, and so it was no surprise to Beau (but probably surprising to the Weezings) that when they clenched their eyes shut and swelled up threateningly...

Nothing happened.

Grinning, Beau urged Nemo on, and the Swampert took the pair out with a well-timed SURF that further hydrated the surroundings. "Good job!" he enthused. "Let's keep this up, brah, we got no explosions happening today!"

Cillian doesn't give a damn about the Weezing. They'd used them in the Kanto war to great effect without care for the Pokémon's well-being. He does, however, care a great deal about himself, and about keeping the limbs attached to him.[break][break]

So during a routine inspection of one of Rocket's WAREHOUSES, when one of the Weezing begins to display the tell-tale signs of an imminent EXPLOSION, he has to think fast. He doesn't have any Pokémon that could dampen the blast, but his SHADOW SANDSLASH manages to throw up a quick PROTECTIVE barrier as the poison-type detonates.[break][break]

The warehouse comes down around them, dust coating the back of Cillian's throat as debris glances off his Pokemon's steel spines. He coughs, gagging, and he's sure it's not just from the dust. He's been POISONED before. He's intimately familiar with the sheen of sweat, the fire in his bloodstream, the nausea and shivers. He extracts himself from the wreckage, leaning against a battered and barely-standing frame as he retches into the dirt.[break][break]

This was going from bad to worse.

Dozens of footsteps pounded on the concrete, away from the Weezing that flashed progressively as the seconds dragged on. He watched it slowly, surely, and dangerously increase in size too. he'd heard about these things-- how they Exploded.

But before the main event, an introduction came in the form of a deadly, lethal wave of sludge. It swallowed up machinery and product indiscriminately, and would soon be on top of the people. Grigori released a Runerigus, Howard, behind the small horde of people. "Howard, please use Crafty Shield!"

His body slowly came apart, black tendrils the supports that kept all the stone pieces together. His one eye watched as a meager wall was formed, and the expanded from his shadowy limbs. His spirit, heart, and soul poured into this shield. As soon as the thick dredge touched the makeshift barrier, it sizzled into the air.

And thanks to the Ghost-typing, it'd be able to withstand what came next. As soon as the last person made their way outside, Grigori slammed down the garage door with a clang to rival a cannon and started to run. He wasn't sure when the creature detonated, or even how bad it was. But it'd been separated from any companions, and it was isolated in the floor room.

Thank goodness for that.

As they would say, ‘desperate times call for desperate measures’.

The moment all the Koffing and Weezing were sighted, several APBs had been put out for Pokémon that had the Damp ability—simply because this particular Poison-type’s line had a tendency to detonate at completely random moments!

Thankfully he wasn’t too far away from where the veritable horde had been sighted.

“Yikes,” he would cringe the moment he arrived; immediately pulling out a Dive Ball and popping out Ryujin the Swampert.

“I don’t think they’re going to come after us, because you can prevent them from exploding, right?” he would confirm with his dual-type companion; who would nod as her Damp ability would come into play.

“Let’s get to work and thin the horde out.”

While he’d managed to locate other fellow Rangers who were helping with clearing out the hordes of Koffing and Weezing—some of them complained about headaches, and a general sense of unease and dizziness.

To be fair, even he was feeling the symptoms of being around so much poison for too long. Ugh. He could feel his stomach rolling the longer they stayed out here…

The Weezing charge and bump against Tempest like overstuffed balloons. They bounce off harmlessly, annoyed. The sounds of clicking inside them, fuses trying to light for Explosions as they glower. He pushes through them, tense, his Mudkip held tightly in his arms.[break][break]

The Dampness of the small pokemon kept the internal fuses from lighting. It was the only reason he wasn't a splatter on a wall from this closeness.[break][break]

Nausea coils in his stomach, but Tempest does his best to push past it.[break][break]

Surely there was some clue why this was all happening deeper inside, right?[break][break]

But he walks and walks and just finds more and more angry Weezing. He walks and walks and hears distant explosions that shake him to his core.

Things weren't looking good at all. Between giant Venusaurs and Toxic Wastes being thrown back and forth, Thea was starting to get worried about what was going to be the next tragedy that was going to happen.[break][break]

The worst part was that she knew Knight was around there, and she needed to find him fast... And she truly did. When she found him, he was trying to rescue some Pokémon, and she wouldn't expect any less from her cousin, but as soon as a Weezing exploded near him and his Pokémon, Thea's heart nearly jumped out of her throat as she yelled: "KAY! NOOO!" She panicked, rushing toward him along with Zeus, Gominha and Belle.[break][break]

She tried to get to him as quick as possible, but noticing that more Weezings and Koffings were around, she knew the worst could happen at any moment. "No! Zeus! Knock them out before they explode! Gominha, Belle, put them to sleep now! FAST!" She instructed with a tone of urgency rumbling in her voice, and the Pokémon followed: Zeus, with his Primeape wrath, released a flurry of Rage Fists toward the nearest Weezing, cracking its carapace and finishing with one last strike that sent it away and unconscious. Gominha and Belle got together, with each of them letting out a soothing and drowsing Sing, that sent many Koffings to the ground, snoring.[break][break]

"Kay? Kay! Are you okay?" Thea asked, worriedly. Upon noticing his hesitation, she insisted: "It is too dangerous to stay in here. I will help you, let's go—" She tried to help her cousin to lead the helpless Pokémon away, escorting him to safety while Gominha, Zeus, and Belle bought them some time.[break][break]

It seemed like there wasn't a single portion of the region that was safe from the onslaught of poisonous Pokemon and toxic chains that emerged almost over night. Everywhere there was a new instance of toxins taking over one location or another, civilians and Pokemon alike were in constant danger, and there was never any telling where the next attack would take place.[break][break]
The warehouse district in Slateport turned into a minefield of Weezing that were pulsing with explosive energy, unceremoniously poised by the toxic chains to detonate themselves to a point of death... There were already hollowed, grounded bodies that rested on the walkways as Yuina walked with Desu beside her, a shield to protect against any of the Weezing that could not be spared from the influence of the toxic chains. Another explosion rocked the surrounding buildings in the near distance... Not a single corner of the warehouse district was safe.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]Chaos. It was the only word that came to mind as he came upon his — third? Fourth? He was losing count — scene.

This consistent ache deep in his stomach combined with the nightmares that plagued his dream, and Greyson was far from the prestigious image of a member of the Elite Four; nevertheless that only seems to fuel his constant desire to be busy.

A scream, hideous, guttural, and poisoned with fear, jerks him from his stupor. Whipping his head in the direction his eyes widen as light gathers in destruction reds and yellows.

"AUTUMN!"

His scream reaches the Delphox in a way more than verbal; a psychic resonance of sort that vibrates on an unseen spectrum. The Witch flicks her wrist, wand already in her hand from the extended battle, and encapsulates the near-exploding Wheezing in PSYCHIC waves. Another controlled motion sends the Poison-type careening upwards.

The resulting EXPLOSION scatters clouds and sends fierce winds rolling over everyone within' 1000 feet.

Greyson exhales, relief evident. The Elite Four member falls onto his ass, shaky hands — why was he so on edge? — reaching to unscrew a water bottle. He hadn't even realized how dehydrated he was.

Delphox's magic does the work for him and Greyson tosses a thankful look her way. After a few moments, he pushes himself to his feet.

"Job's not done yet."

Hideo's Beheeyem made its way on the scene, several Pokeballs floating around its body.

He didn't let Hideo come this time; he was catching on to the boy's growing illness. The moment the boy almost passed out on the way here, the team came to a collective agreement to give him some rest. So Hideo was taking a rest at home, and Elga was directing things here.

The first Pokemon he let out as Hideo's Aggron, just as a Weezing took notice and tried to Explosion in his face. A timely Protect from the Aggron kept that from doing any harm, and the Aggron was more than ready to lay in on the chained Pokemon, Body Pressing into the nearest one.

Elga himself would focus on the more precise job - breaking the chains on the KO'd Pokemon.

Somemon had to do it.

attack/defend against the weezing and koffing.

incorporate a weezing/koffing using SELF-DESTRUCT, EXPLOSION, or MEMENTO.

have a pokemon know & use the move, PROTECT.
