IN MID-AUGUST, swarms of Shuckle begin to travel across the region in order to forage berries. Though it is not uncommon to see these mollusk-like Pokemon scavenge for berries, to see them move en masse like this is unprecedented. Perhaps, they are storing berries in their shells in preparation for the future. After all, they too, may be sensing the violence looming ahead.[break][break]

The swarm of Shuckle made for an interesting backdrop as he snacked on his lunch. His half-sandwich was good, but the other half from earlier had had more of the aioli. This part was drier by comparison, but it still wasn't a bad sandwich. It would have paired nicely with something sour. Or sweet. Something refreshing, really. The dryness was getting to them a little, okay, but he really wanted to like his lunch. He couldn't give up on this sandwich, not yet. [break][break]

Honestly, he could go for a salac berry right about now.

"Stop it, ya dingleberry. We're tryin' to catch it." The Shuckle raises its head, alerted by the voice. "Shit." Hitoshi has only one pokeball, one shot to get one and bring it home without alerting the rangers. He raises his ball, tosses it, and readies himself to come whether he hears a click or an explosion that signals failure.

"Outta berries. Fuck off." Howard flicked up his newspaper and sighed. Oh, shit. Melody Miro was releasing a new album? He'd need to get a signature on his copy if possible. Something nibbled on his sleeve. Howard sighed and looked down. "I told you-"

'Shuck?' A Shuckle looked at him with huge, dopy eyes. It pleased with the admin's conscience. It demanded his attention. The admin sighed, before turning back to his newspaper.

'Shuck?'

"What the FUUUUUUUUUUUU-" Howard screamed as he drowned in an increasingly large swarms of Shuckles. The last thing anyone could see of him was his hand and his newspaper, which soon disappeared into the increasing tide of Shuckles.

The whimsical Gracie Mae counted them off as they slugged their way through the route. Several onlookers approached eagerly with hopes of stealing one of the berry hoarders for themselves.[break][break]

And Gracie Mae was no different.[break][break]

The thought of drinking fresh berry juice poured straight from a shuckle's shell raised the breeder's adrenaline. "You can do so much with a berry," she spoke to her faithful companion, Annie Mae. "Boil'em, mash'em, stick'em in a stew..." Her mind wandered.[break][break]

"Anyways," Gracie snapped back. Her fingers curled around an empty pokeball. "Let's find the juiciest looking one of'em, Annie Mae! Not just any shuckle will do!"[break][break]

Annie Mae had no idea what a quality shuckle looked like, but she gave an affirmative cheer in support of her trainer's wishes. Besides, there were so many of them. How hard could it be to find at least one decent, "juicy" shuckle?[break][break]

out on reconnaissance yet again...

it can be said that this task never gets old, but then again, none of this field surveying business ever does. of course, silverio isn't one to stir up any complication on or off the said field. but this? ain't this a doozy; a horde of shuckles shuffling about on the route. the thought that immediately comes to mind is that he had seen this movie before - playback the time when an army of aquatic insect warriors had swarmed the docks in lilycove.

they appear harmless, but of course, silv knew well to judge too soon. he and his trusted canine companion inch closer to a particular horde that is found scrounging for scraps. the paldean looks to consult with this wolf pup. "you think these guys would like sitrus berries?"

did he bring enough to feed them all, though...? unlikely...

Crouched in front of an awfully eager Shuckle, Yvaine has made herself at home watching her wriggly friend go about its day eating berries like there's no tomorrow.

Her stash of Oran berries has slinked considerably, thanks to the Shuckle's insatiable hunger, but it's given her opportunities to watch from up close how its juicing process works. And as she scribbles away the Shuckle does its own thing, allowing her to remain near just so it can use her for its own needs.

A well-versed beneficial relationship, only making the redhead more curious about it.

Aisling watched the swarm of Shuckle from a distance. The sight was unusual, even to someone like her, who had long stopped caring about the natural rhythms of the Pokémon world. The Shuckle, with their slow, deliberate movements, seemed almost frantic in their search for berries, stuffing them into their shells with a sense of urgency that was hard to ignore.

She reached into her bag and absentmindedly pulled out a Sitrus Berry, the one she had picked a few days earlier without much thought.

"Someone's in a hurry," She muttered to Ninetales, who sat quietly beside her. The Pokémon’s icy gaze was fixed on the Shuckle, but it made no move to engage. Like Aisling, it simply observed, detached from the bustling activity below.

Aisling tossed the Sitrus Berry into the underbrush, watching as it disappeared among the leaves. "Maybe they’re onto something," she said quietly, more to herself than to her Pokémon. "Or maybe they’re just running in circles, trying to avoid the inevitable."

"Do you also want some of that smoothie? I think it got strawberries in it, and pecha berries," Cass ponders as she offers her can to Vespa Baskerville so the other could also get something. And it seems like it's also attracting the attention of some Shuckles. She generally really likes swarms - it's nice seeing so many of the same pokémon just hang out, but she also can't shake that underlying feeling of resources.

Having to build up a reservoir for the time to come.

"Hey there," she says instead of chasing that thought, smiling as she offers her cup for the Shuckle to sniff. "Do you want a taste, too? Here, go ahead! I haven't drunk from it, either." And hey, maybe she could chance a capture attempt, too ...

Kit was certain that he'd never seen so many shuckle in one place. The strange little bugs had always been a fascinating specimen, though, and so from where he perched on a boulder, he set to simply watching them. Absently, he snacked on a container of blueberries, occasionally tossing one toward the swarm to see if their heads would dart out of their protective shells to snatch up the treat. This, however, did not draw any of them closer. So it seemed he would need to do things the old-fashioned way. His houndour dashed forward, embers kicking up around her as she FLAME CHARGED one shuckle on the outskirts of the group.
