"Hmmm..." Raziel's guess is as good as his, not that Adrian made that leap. But it made sense such things were gathered up alongside the assortment of files. While they're rummaging through it, they hear another scream—and a shuddering noise of something shattering—though it's distanced from them.[break][break]

Returning through the dining and entrance halls, they are late to see the damages as a statue lies shattered. Thankfully, nothing seems to have been underneath it... Though the apparitions seem to have taken offense. The crowd gathered acts... unlike themselves.[break][break]

       Still worth it. No matter what anyone said, Evelyn remained unnervingly calm amidst the growing chaos. The guests were panicking, either losing their minds and becoming feral, but she stayed poised or perhaps she was masking her growing anxiety beneath that collected exterior.[break][break]

She glanced down at the notes, her brow furrowing. "You mean a horror story. If I had to guess, it seems likely the scientists fell victim to the same ghosts—or ghost—that's turning half the party into mad dogs. Incomplete research like this means they were driven insane or worse."[break][break]

Her thoughts were interrupted by another scream, followed by a loud crash. She sighed, dropping her findings. "It seems our attention is being drawn elsewhere," she said, wandering towards the source of the disturbance. Her eyes landed on a rumbling statue. "Raikou and Suicune? Could Entei been the one destroy this? However why just entei used that's who they are bitter against?"[break][break]

After pondering the scene, Evelyn knelt down, examining a broken piece. "Quartz or crystal? No... this looks more like alabaster,"[break][break]

She isn't certain about her presence in this world anymore - stripped of her usual brazen bravado, a high note that usually decided the tact of her world, there is only ... something like quiet curiosity. Almost turning akin to a ghost herself in lack of her ghostly companion, the young one ventures amidst the rising panic in a strange calm. She has no idea what she is actually looking at, but the sounds are helping - the crashings and screamings and hastily steppings of feet across the polished floor.[break]

This place ... it's a really strange one, isn't it? There is akin familiarity in standing next to and , though she doesn't quite so interact with either her nor the words of that might have evoked an agreement - being anti-girlypop is really the worst, even if you're a Ghost type - of sorts, but not this time, as she stares emptily at what might be alabaster, left broken and bruised in its wake.




TL;DR


- Vespa wears a Wooper mask and a mintgreen dress, and she is no longer accompanied by her partner Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus who wears a Grookey mask. Apparently called 'Woo'. Gradually forgetting her name.[break]
- Very out of it, turning into a ghostly shell over the course of time.[break]

"a horror story implies an element of fiction," absinthe shoots back. "this place is more like a farce."[break][break]

as the crash echoes throughout the building and evelyn darts towards the commotion, absinthe follows, but not without her characteristic ire. once they arrive to the scene, absinthe’s dark eyes settle upon the destroyed statue and then glance at the others—raikou and suicune, instantly recognizable as legends.[break][break]

"oh," she says, and nothing more. it’s senseless destruction, and absinthe finds herself mourning the artistic value of whatever figure had once stood there. with a slight clenching of her jaw, she decides that it must’ve been entei that the vengeful ghost pokemon harbored their grudge against, considering how the others were left unscathed. or perhaps that is merely what they would like her to think.[break][break]

"so it’s made of alabaster," absinthe repeats back to evelyn as the other woman inspects the materials, noting the evidence of calcite beneath her gloved fingers. "lovely. and who do you think had the bright idea to desecrate it?"[break][break]

as the chaos continues around her—the stampede of frenzied guests, the whispers and wails of ghost pokemon—absinthe feels herself reaching the end of her patience. she can handle this spook house nonsense, sure, but that doesn’t mean she wants to spend all night here. if there’s a vengeful spirit she needs to destroy to end this farce, then she’ll be more than happy to do so.[break][break]

"i wonder if the destruction of the statue is more symbolic than literal. a representation of a grudge?"

“Mayhaps,” ______ mused. Two heads, neither of them with the prerequisite knowledge to piece together the mystery that stared at them. With a sigh, the stranger returned the notebook to its rightful place and crossed his arms. “But you would know more than I, at that point.”

“But I fear none of it appears relevant. Because I am not familiar with the sciences either. Never finished…” _______ trailed off. On second thought, no need to spill his guts to her. “It is besides the point– which is that neither of us can make the connections needed to get anywhere. We’re better off physically trying to escape.”

Nearby, a heavy object slammed into a glass pane. Not that they could see it, but they’d hear the clear ringing of glass and exclamation as said object likely came back at them. He did not need to see the person be thrown to the ground to know what happened.

“Or we must simply wait and see what lay in store for us,” he finished. “Or go test our luck with other fellows. What say you?”

It was growing increasingly harder for _______ to ignore the screams that echoed the halls.

“Right, of course,” Alba lightly shakes his head, as if trying to wake himself up. That sounded about right… but reaching into his memory felt like grasping into a fog, only able to clearly see what was right in front of him. It was all there, but his mind swam lethargically, vertigo creeping up the more he tried to push.[break][break]

And so he stops, letting himself get caught up in the current of the pair he’d apparently been talking to. One of the fundamental rules of surviving a horror scenario was to never end up alone, and it was difficult for him to say that they weren’t in some kind of horror stageplay, with the audience of Ghost-types that watched over their every move.[break][break]

Even this destroyed statue, so perfectly shattered as to make it unrecognisable, could simply be part of their game. Leaving wasn’t an option — something Alba was bitterly familiar with — but this place did not have the acrid taste of sickly sweet mochi. His breath did not heat up his face; there was a path forward, even if it was an unclear one, unlike… whatever dim recollection he was tapping into.[break][break]

“What if we try breaking another one, then?” When Alba speaks, he looks to the spectral crowd, as if addressing them rather than any of the humans they’d trapped. He leans against one of the remaining statues, the one that flows like water, not actively trying to knock it down, but letting his weight rest against it.

your eyes practically bulge out of their socket as leads away. that wretched old bag! who does she think she is, getting in your way?! doesn't she know you could snap her frail little bones as though they were sticks? you have such a strong temptation to kick her right in that stupid little fox snout of hers, and your resolve is sorely tested. yet, for better or for worse, your heel does not cave in her face.[break][break]

if only you hadn't gotten yourself stuck in such a pitiful form. were you as you are, all it would take is a few orichalcum-powered swings to reduce one of these walls to rubble. not that it would help, mind - you're very familiar with how annoying and nonsensical this shit tends to be - but it'd certainly take the edge off.[break][break]

nevertheless, you trudge on, the back of this snaking train of disappointment made manifest.[break][break]

of course, it isn't long before you end up back in the dining hall with the others. more weird shit is happening. joy. why can't halloween ever be normal? why can't it be like christmas? this is a real pain in the ass. some are trying to solve the mystery of these statues, but you? you're simply here to expedite this process.[break][break]

Oh. Oh dear. If ███████, musician that she was, would know more than this man... Then they were in dire straits indeed, and further discussion would only be a waste of time. He said as much before she could, though he came to a conclusion she didn't necessarily agree with. Oh, she noticed what he left unsaid too, of course, but once more didn't react outwardly. Perhaps if circumstances had been different, she might have subtly pressed the matter. There was no reason for her to manipulate this stranger, true enough, but having that option was always reassuring.

"I- That's-" St. Claire squinted at the priest not quite right. His brain felt fuzzy, and something was sitting on the tip of his tongue. "I- Something doesn't feel right." he admitted, frowning as he looked back at Ivy. "I thought- I think- there was something in my drink. Or food." Maybe even the air being pumped into the mansion was drugged. Who could say really? [break][break]

The woman, Ivy, calls him Preston and he blinked. That certainly felt familiar. Again he shook his head. Before he could explain further however, the screaming and the crumbling is made visible. A ring around the statues and angry ghost pokemon reveals the strange statues and the GYPSUM mess at the feet between them. Shit. The situation was getting alarming as the guests began to panic and he swallowed.[break][break]

"Let's pull back, and-...try getting away from the banquet hall." He murmured beginning to feel the effort sink in as he carefully herding the pair back. He doesn't mean to be rough but he does shoulder patrons out of the way, bumping into a woman with growing concern ( ) and snapping like a dog protecting its meal. Trivialities like a made up name are forgotten, but instinct carved into muscle and bone isn't easily forgotten. Without really thinking, he slides a hand down his thigh and when he doesn't find what he's looking form, he turned to the dining table and tries to steal a knife. "Keep. Keep at the edge." he ordered the beginnings of a growl at the back of his throat as he looked over his new charges before back at some of the more frenzied patrons in the crowd. He makes eye contact for too long with someone and stands up straighter, baring his teeth has if about to snap.

a crash distracts him from the journals, though it didn't seem like he'd be getting anything useful from them. it might be from not spending enough time parsing through its contents, but kyle is quick to discard it for more pressing matters.

the statues should have invoked some sense of longing, but they didn't.

he picks up a piece of the rubble that rolled too far from its source, allowing it to reach him. what would have been a tendency to keep things as they were had been replaced with an act of testing if it can be crushed with his hand.

"everything's fine!" he assures noah, though the tone appears more carefree than one in this situation would be. "we're fine. we're fine."

inhibitions are loosened. the situation builds up to a genre of fantasy that can build up adrenaline, whether as a spectator or participant. with a hand over noah's shoulder, his eyes start to dart from one side of the mansion to another, excited for future developments.

A creeping tension fills the Hollowcrest Hall as the mystery deepens. The debris of the foreign statue is seemingly too difficult to solve, even for a historian or ambassador. Something is wrong in this place. Suspicion grows, and whispers of betrayal fill the air. As the guests begin to act on primal instincts, some question if those standing next to them are who they claim to be at all.

Tensions flare further as two ghost-type pokemon quietly emerge, tasked with cleaning the debris left behind from the fallen statue. One timidly holds a broom, the other a dustpan, both of them moving cautiously as if they, too, fear the watchful eyes around them. Their nervous glances toward the guests reveal their unease, as if expecting to be scolded for the broken statue. With jittery movements, they sweep up the pieces and disappear into a side room, the door closing behind them with a soft but final click, preventing any from following.

And then the laughter begins. It starts as a faint giggle from above, but soon grows into a cacophony of maniacal laughter echoing through the hall. It’s not just the ghosts that laugh; the very walls seem to vibrate with voices that aren’t their own. The chant rises from the unseen, a chilling statement repeated over and over: "WE ALL DRIFT IN HERE." The ghost pokemon hover and twist playfully in the air, their silent laughter joining the sinister chant, as though they are mocking the guests below.

Just as quickly as the eerie merriment started, it stops. The hall is plunged into a sudden darkness. A brief, suffocating silence presses down, and then, in the black, a single word is whispered into the ear of every guest: “FOREVER.”

A ghostly white orb appears in the center of the room where the statue once stood. It casts an unsettling glow across the space, its surface flickering with strange, dancing lights of blue and pink. The orb hovers just above the ground, surrounded by ghost pokemon who sway and spin around it, daring the guests to approach.

For those brave enough to investigate, the orb reveals something curious. Though it appears tangible, reaching out to touch it proves futile. Curious hands simply pass straight through, as if it isn't there at all. A light shined upon its surface causes pieces of the orb to vanish, retreating into the dark void that created it. Some of the guests can sense a bit of trickery, blaming the mischievous spirits around them.

Oscar watched as others examined the statue, gradually losing interest in the whole affair. He glanced over at the man from his table (), chuckling softly as the lithe figure tried to casually push over one of the other statues. Oscar approached, "I think you'll need to try a little harder than that." Another patron tries the same thing with greater force, possibly succeeding where This Stranger failed. "See? Like that."

Ghosts appeared to clean up the debris, looking around with uneasy gazes. Oscar watched them work, studying their nervous expressions. They looked as if they would be scolded at any moment, was it an act? The ghosts were in control, though perhaps an even greater force oversaw them. They left in a hurry, and Oscar's mind would blank as he wondered what he was supposed to do next. Everyone around him seemed flighty and desperate to leave, perhaps one of them would indeed find a way out. In the mean time, he can just relax.

Scratch that, the house would allow no respite to their torment. A great host of haunting laughter rang across the mansion, a deafening racket that sent shivers across Oscar's body. For a moment he was reminded of his phobia, but instead of being filled with fear he would be charged with rage. "Shut up!" He shouted, as if trying to silence a bad comedian. "You aren't funny, shut the fuck up!" They refused, their laughter would not end until they wished it to.

When all finally went silent, the room would grow dark. Oscar flinched as a light abruptly appeared nearby, a glowing orb that the ghost pokemon seemed to romp around in a synchronized dance. The orb was--alluring; a technicolor beauty that was enticing to the eyes. Yet there was a twinge of familiarity within the back of Oscar's foggy mind. He remembered a battle in Sootopolis, and a clown that rocked the city. That clown appeared several times in his head, a nightmare of carnage and destruction.

He could still hear the screams. Feel the burns upon his flesh. It was unforgettable.

He finally spoke up, his tone dreamily casual yet firm. "That's a bomb!"

When the orb appears, it grabs Makoto's attention near immediately. It is strange, it looking as though it were something familiar. Something Makoto should recognize, even if only faintly...

... But, what draws their attention more, was the nature of this orb. Its intangibility and how it disappears under the light, it immediately pings something in their head. "It's an illusion..." They murmur. An illusion not too unlike the ones that their Zorua and Zoroark sometimes conjured.

They feel almost compelled now, to glance about for the source of the figment... Surely, the one who weaved it must be somewhere around here.

As soon as they had returned to the banquet hall, the admin began destroying a nearby banquet table. Trays of food went uneaten, lost to history as the various guests in the manor lost their minds while trying to find a way out of this eternal prison.

"Alright, here's the thing." The admin said, munching on Hondew berries while using his Aerodactyl pen to scribble on a napkin that he had swiped from a Shuppet. He twirled the pen once, before flattening the napkin on the countertop to explain his point. "We're fucked."

He said to and anyone nearby as he leaned against the bar, still chewing on the spoils of his banquet table raid. His paper bag mask had dried again, and that had ultimately been the key to blow part of this cycle open. It would've been nicer if he could be drunk while making that claim, but he'd take what he would get.

"Not that this is hopeless. No, it just means that I can't get drunk." Howard cocked his head. "We're in a time loop. It's all a fucking illusion."

He raised his bottle.

"It's full again. I've drank it thrice. Moreso, I'm not drunk. On top of that, my mask is dry. Again." Despite the circumstances, the admin seemed more annoyed that he couldn't get drunk at a party. "We're reverting back to a set point in time."

He drew a small chibi Howard Slayte utterly sloshed, before drawing another one that was perfectly sober and depressed. The two had arrows pointing at each other, indicating a cycle.

"I bet this is what got those researchers, too. Maybe their notes got cursed before they could finish."
