The unease furthers only as much as the sense of dread does, the normally active individual turning into something more passive as she can only witness the ghosts disappear after cleaning up the mess - watching how ghosts anew appear, with something that seems extensively peculiar. We all drift in here? What does that even mean ... Is that supposed to be a song she should know? But who is she, even? There is a confusion when she turns her head towards Cassandra Kubrick, DESIREE BLOOMS and Thea Naito with a confused look, a question forming, "who-," - when darkness falls, and with it a silence that feels oppressive.[break]

The young student reaches out for whoever stands closest to her at that moment, a painful grip on whoever she may or may not be able to get a grip on. That's ... one heck of something. Forever ... "What does that mean?" she can only mutter as her eyes dart upwards to where a strange orb appears. A hand that reaches out and finds nothing, only furthering the dread that seems to fill her lungs with every other intake of air. "Will it ... explode?" That's ... she feels like there is something on the tip of her tongue, though she cannot tell if it's the light at the end of a tunnel, or something more aligned with an abyssal scream for help.

TL;DR

- Vespa wears a Wooper mask and a mintgreen dress, and she is no longer accompanied by her partner Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus who wears a Grookey mask. Apparently called 'Woo'. Gradually forgetting her identity.[break]

Helm pities the ghost types who seem so scared of scolding - a rooted feeling to step forward and console the ghosts, though she's held in place swiftly as ... What? They all drift in here ... what do they mean. ... did someone drown?

She's distracted from her thoughts by someone holding her arm tightly- though she has trouble recalling who exactly this person is, just like with the pokémon before, she does feel an urge to soothe the other. "It's- we'll make it out of here, don't worry." Though that's definitely big words for someone who barely even remembers her own name beyond the mask.

"I'm ... not sure. It seems rather like ... an illusion," she guesses as she steps forward a bit, touching the intangible orb as well before taking some steps back. "I'm not sure why they wouldn't have killed us already if they really set this off," she adds.

rumoured to be built atop ancient pokémon burial grounds. strange portals have been witnessed (allegedly). halloween night most unsettling with multiple disappearances.
ancient paintings and sculptures scattered throughout the mansion, often depicting legendary pokémon.
(BITTER)piercing scream from the dining room; the dining room doors then open. 3 grand tables designed after the aguav, hondew and durin berry, but food-wise identical.
(FIELD) all clocks stop. everyone compelled to return pokémon back to their balls. masks unremovable; forgetfulness hits some. messages appear in red paint "help", "run", "you are not alone". all doors to the outside are shut. some locked rooms unlock that hold various old, forgotten relicts, including strange rocks that emit a faint magnetic energy, likely relics from places like Chargestone Cave or Mt. Coronet. dusty notebooks filled with cryptic researc (documentation of pkmn catch attempts, each entry sealed with completion stamp).
(alabaster) research belongs to various scientists from decades past. harrowing field studies, relentless hunt for pkmn terrorising nearby villages: using Spite and Imprison. mysterious disappearances > pkmn? incomplete research > researchers vanished before?
presently: guests aren't doing too hot with face and name forgotten, animalistic. loud crash from the entrance hall: three statues before, now only two with one shattered. carved from soft, translucent material; fine-grained gypsum or calcite is easily marred.
(x) two ghosts (scared of scolding by the surroundings?) clean up the statue mess. "we all drift in here" "forever". ghostly white orb appears, hovering and glowing, intangible. blacephalon head shaped.

The other blonde looked as though he would fall over any minute. Isaac followed him (or rather, allowed himself to be guided by him), but felt a new pang of concern when St. Claire snapped at some passing patron. Isaac thought to reach for him for a moment, until he bared his teeth, ready to snarl like a badly trained Mightyena. Against his better judgment, Isaac did reach for his arm, now, even as St. Claire grasped for something, and held the limb with a steady but gentle grip, [break][break]

“Control yourself, my friend,” he whispered harshly, pulling himself close to the other man, [break][break]

“We'll find a way out of this, I'm sure of it.” [break][break]

Isaac looked back over his shoulder to see two ghosts cleaning up the debris with fearful haste. He grimaced at the sight of it, and at the sound of laughter that began to fill the air around them. Whatever bravado he attempted to conjure to soothe his acquaintance evaporated as the cackling and jeering grew to a crescendo. His grip on St. Claire's arm grew tight, [break][break]

“This – this can't be real.” [break][break]

It had to be some sort of prank, some unearthly illusion cast over the crowd by a pack of incorrigible ghosts. It simply had to be – if not, then who had just whispered into his ear? [break][break]

Isaac suddenly relinquished his hold on St. Claire's arm and looked around wildly, from the other man, to Elise Calcifet, to the orb that now lay where the bits of alabaster once stood. He turned back to the girl with a faint hope that she might have maintained some of her sense, [break][break]

Whatever ghostly happenings occur, people flock to it because there is nothing else to grasp in the situation save for the growing despair of not being able to escape.[break][break]

But as someone who has been trapped in far too many 'jails' to count, she knows better than to let the mentality of being stuck forever get to her.[break][break]

The concept of a time loop is brought up. Fair enough, the explanation is reasonable and matches with how the little tear she'd accidentally made in one of the journals mysteriously repaired itself.[break][break]

"But the statue didn't fix itself."[break][break]

Oh, how close she hovers around danger. If only because she knows him to have been of great help during their last unfortunate murder investigation.[break][break]

"That means your theory is wrong, or there are exceptions to the rule."[break][break]

Exceptions that could most likely be exploited, if they so managed to figure it out.[break][break]

For now, she watches as others play with the illusion, uncertain of what to make of it. Is it a clue? Or simply a distraction from the horrors to come? Taking a quiet breath, her eyes scour her surroundings with whatever dim light that orb provides.

The calamity of the statue brought most all of the attendees into the room, any stragglers were either lost to the house or too far gone to understand that concern was there... And as it brought the most of them together, it also brought out the worst in everyone, crowded together, seething in the uncertainties of it all.[break]
Standing amidst those who looked on at the shattered pieces, the brunette was pushed to the side as the true nature of being trapped without escape began to take over. Then the cacophony of vicious laughter, drawing in delight from their plight, like a taunt at their predicament and how far they had all fallen. The confusion was still rampant... Stuck somewhere between abject fear and a complacency to just... let things happen... But the beating lights in the center from that orb caught her attention.[break][break]
As the ghosts surrounding them rose to a symphony of laughter, it was clear what their intentions were... And yet one of the patrons wrought with their most base feral instincts lashed out and rushed to punch the orb in the center. Then his fists went right through it... An illusion?[break][break]
"Can't you see? The ghosts are toying with all of us and you're playing right into it," she tried to say, looking to him before glancing back to the untouched and unchanged orb.[break]
"That's what they want, if we feed into it... We're going to be stuck here. Forever."

First the crackling and breaking into pieces of the Suicune statue, but now there seemed to be an ILLUSION of sorts weaving through the chambers with dancing lights. Had she known her name, had she been able to loosen her mask, this would have been nothing more than a fantastically orchestrated event of halloween horror.[break][break]

But, no, this was something more- or so she believed. It hurt her stomach to be this anxious again, having not caught as long of a break away from the turmoil than she would have wished for.[break][break]

Preston does not look like the type of man who would be brave in the face of meeting angered ghosts. Still, a distressed person needed her help while Isaac would try to comfort the masked man. She files another nasty plot in her head later, that’ll be for when it’ll be the time to play around with him. All of the others were panicking too, it was no doubt that the ghost Pokemon were showing their colors to the guests.[break][break]

“It does not look like a ruse when the guests are panicking and running for their lives. The ghosts must be testing our resolve.” The Galarian woman answers the man’s question while she sees him panic too. Right now, it didn’t look like the ghost Pokemon here would let the guests leave, maybe there was something they wanted out of them.[break][break]

“But yes, I agree that we will seek help for our distressed friend here.” A nod came from the Galarian female when she has to think of who would help Preston. With masks on, it was harder to determine whether people would be willing to help the distressed blond man.

Return to the… ballroom? Why, that was such a nice, simple, easy thing to do. Don’t play hero, _______. Let everyone else solve the mystery presented to them. To forget it all sounded like bliss. Forget your name, forget your past. Forget who you are. It did not matter, despite it mattering the most.

For now, he was just ______. And she was _______. Wasn’t that enough for him, just this once? Couldn’t be be content with such a simple, lackadaisical thing?

_______ sighed. Perhaps, just this once, he could forget who he was. Forget the sins of his past. Let the mystique of the event carry him away, until nothing remained. There were many capable people here. One of them would solve the problem. Instead, he walked to the front door and took _______ by the hand.

“I would be lying if I said the idea of a dance was not pleasant,” he said. “And I never tell a lie.”

Slowly, the would make their way to the ballroom. Even as the spirits gave up the illusion a few dozen meters away, they hadn’t done so in the ballroom. Even better, the floor had become mostly empty, safe for the few brave souls who wouldn’t let the night drown them out.

“Is now a bad time to say I’ve never danced proper?” _______ turned to _______. “You might have to lead the way, lest I stomp your toes into the floorboards.”

there is a roaring in absinthe's ears as the cackling crescendos, as if the ghosts are mocking her. the sound builds and builds until it reaches a deafening peak, and then is silenced just as abruptly as it began. her breath hitches in her lungs and her eyes dart around the room wildly, seeking the source of the voice that whispered in her ear. forever.[break][break]

and then, an orb appears, gleaming like a pearlescent eye socket. it glows with an ethereal white-blue light that makes her heart hammer against her chest and her fingertips tingle with the overwhelming urge to reach out and touch. she doesn't—always cautious, particularly when faced with a glowing unknown substance—though, honestly, the prospect is tempting..[break][break]

instead, she watches evelyn reach out, and absinthe's eyes narrow as the other woman's hand passes through it, as if there's nothing there. "an illusion," she murmurs, and the words feel heavy on her tongue. "fed by the darkness." it's a trick perpetuated by the ghost pokemon, she's sure of it, and the mirth in their voices only serves to confirm her suspicions..[break][break]

a feeling of unease settles at the bottom of absinthe's stomach. with a glance toward the shattered statue, she wonders if there's a connection between the destroyed entei and the spirits' anger. now more than ever, this place feels like a prison, one that she desperately wants to claw her way out of. the fact that evelyn seems to be coming to the same conclusion only fuels her paranoia..[break][break]

"a blacephalon," she muses aloud, following evelyn's gaze to consider the similarities between this unnatural spectacle and the freak of nature she had read of in academic texts. "it tricks its targets, then uses their surprise to rob them of their vitality.".[break][break]

absinthe's head tilts, and she turns to survey the panicked gaggle of guests everywhere in the manor. she suddenly connects the dots in her head..[break][break]

MYSTERY SOLVED

With suspicions confirmed, the ghosts of Hollowcrest Hall acknowledge that the mystery has been solved. Many return to their previous tasks like playing eerie music, serving ghostly food as though nothing unusual ever occurred. The once-haunted festivities resume as if the night's dark events were nothing more than a passing shadow.

The truth is that the Rennard family never existed. The grand Hollowcrest Hall had always been a creation of a cunning Zoroark and its companion, Zorua. For years, they tested humanity, luring guests into their web of illusions to judge their worth. Distrustful of humans, they used Halloween as their ultimate trial, inviting guests from far and wide. Those who failed during the witching hour were condemned to the mansion, forever haunting its halls.

In a final act, the front doors swing open, allowing dawn’s early light to pour in. Guests feel a strange relief as their masks finally come off, and those who had forgotten their names can now recall them. The moment they step outside, the doors slam shut behind them, sealing the mansion away. To those leaving, the building now appears abandoned, as if no party had ever taken place at all.

THE ANSWER

The mystery's solution lies in the presence of a Zorua and Zoroark hidden among you, cleverly disguised amidst the chaos of masks and forgotten identities.

However, to maintain their facade, Zorua and Zoroark were bound by certain rules. They couldn’t use the real names of the characters they mimicked, nor could they eat, drink, or physically interact with others.

Several clues were connected to these cunning tricksters. Reynard, Chargestone Cave, Mt. Coronet, Suicune, Raikou, and Entei were tied to both Zorua and Zoroark, fox-like pokemon with links to both the Unova and Hisui regions and subtle connections to the legendary beasts.

The last riddle post mentioned an "Ambassador" and "Historian" instead of tagging two other characters. This hint was meant to point you to two specific characters. Another mod post emphasized the importance of pokemon attacks, revealing that Zorua and Zoroark had to list one pokemon attack in each of their posts. With all these clues in mind, it becomes clear: Elise Calcifet and Yuina Higashi are the Zorua and Zoroark, respectively.

Of course Eris Halla would object to his brilliant deduction. The time loop made perfect sense! It was the flawless theory, crafted from Howard's inability to get completely and utterly smashed over the course of this event.

Maybe Eris was constantly stuck in a time loop. It explained why she was so short.

"No, listen! It makes sense! Imagine you're like, eating a sandwich and the sandwich continuously regenerates! They could've moved the statue and let it rebuild in some side room." Howard protested as Eris meandered off to harass Galarians. It was a good past time, but it left the admin fuming from behind his paper bag. "Come back!"

She did not. Howard's teeth grinded in frustration. Getting up, he went to meander through the masquerade in an attempt to find someone to agree with his time loop theory. His eye eventually fell on Yuina Higashi .

This person was familiar. Who was hiding behind the mask?

"Hey!" Howard waved his napkin drawing of a time paradox under the historian's nose. "What's your opinion on time paradoxes?"

If only he knew.
