She rose from the table and plucked a glass of champagne from a passing tray. Raising it in farewell toward the seated couple, she said, "I shall leave you to enjoy the rest of your night."[break][break]

Yumi made her way next to the desserts, pausing for a moment to admire the results of her staff's hard work. Then she picked up a small plate and selected a brownie and a berry tart.[break][break]

With champagne flute in one hand and desserts in the other, she exited the Empoleon Room to enjoy the fireworks on the balcony.

Now, that hit the spot! she thought with satisfaction. I'm so full I can't eat another bite...

And then she heard the announcement for dancing, fireworks, and, most importantly, dessert. Her eye flew wide at that last part and immediately swung over to watch the waiters arranging platters and trays of brownies, berry tarts, cheesecake, candy, and other confections along a banquet table along the other side of the room. To her own amusement, Aurelie could feel her mouth already watering.

Well, on the other hand...maybe I can fit in just another bite or two, she thought with a grin.

The red-haired smith rose to her feet and strolled over to the dessert table as soon as the staff was done laying out the last few platters. Picking up a dessert plate, she quickly started heaping it with treats.

Oooh, definitely that lemon square, she thought, placing it neatly on the plate. Ooh, a palmier! I loved those as a child! And a chocolate-dipped one too! Both were immediately claimed. And a brownie, a strawberry cheesecake bite, that adorable ramekin of crème brûlée, an eclair...

After walking the length of the dessert table, Aurelie beamed at her accumulated pile of decadent treats and started walking back toward her chair. Dodging out of the way of another pair of guests, she looked over and spotted Isaac Merlo at his table with three gorgeously dressed ladies and an equally gorgeous chocolate cake. Startled to see someone else she recognized, Aurelie found herself walking toward him without even consciously thinking about it.

"Isaac! Hi! Nice to see you here too," she exclaimed in greeting as soon as she came within earshot. "Here to push your luck a little and enjoy a nice night on the town? I see you've also plundered the dessert table already."

Carefully placing her plate of desserts on the table, the red-haired smith turned in a swirl of sage-green chiffon to survey his company. Her uncovered eye widened in admiration as she looked from Elise Calcifet to Mirabella Fontaine and finally at ana fell. "And it's a pleasure to meet all you stunning beauties as well. I love all your dresses and costumes!

"Especially yours," Aurelie couldn't help adding toward ana fell, openly marveling at the elaborate flame-adorned gown and red-and-gold wings with delight and amazement. "Arceus, I'd steal that dress if I thought I could pull it off! That looks like something the Red Dragon Queen from World of Warcraft would wear."

While she hands Naia’s phone off to the retreating figure of the silver-haired woman, she hears the announcement from the new proprietor of the casino that dancing, dessert, and fireworks were starting for the night. “If you wish to dance with me, Amor, I don’t mind finding a spot where we can do so together.” She offers Amor Rose the chance to dance with her if he wanted since he was being in a lovey-dovey mood with her. She hadn’t danced with someone in a while from the royal ball a few years ago where she had gotten offers to dance, but she was way too shy. “I don’t know where Naia could have gone, but I will be a bit busy with my darling Amor. Maybe Lady Fontaine will be free to check up on her.” The royal responds to Isaac Merlo since she too would be worried for Naia being drunk at the party.[break][break]

The ball rolled again, once more into the roulette wheel as Soyeon had been getting somewhat of an unfortunate streak this past evening. She was gambling and wanted to be social, although her anxieties had taken their toll while keeping away from everyone. Especially as the later part of the night would involve everybody dancing. Some of the guests did look ravishing, as she couldn't keep her eyes off of some folks passing about before pulling them away.

Having her fill of gambling for the day, Soyeon would make her way over to the bar. Her gait was a spittle slower than most on the count of still getting used to being in such a fancy dress. She couldn't say that she hated the idea of wearing something so royal looking, but it certainly wasn't the garb fit for a scientist. Once she was over by the bar, the violet haired woman saw another person whose hair reminded her of the snow filled banks she had visited with Selena Desmarais from a while ago. Her dress was a bit more free flowing, as she couldn't help but admire how the colors fit her almost perfectly. Maybe she had noticed after a while, but Soyeon would curse her silly mind and move to speak with the woman.

"Excuse me, is this seat taken?" Soyeon asked with a timid smile, her gaze remaining on the woman before allowing herself to be seated next to her. She could tell that she was a few drinks in, a slight buzz if anything. The bartender welcomed Soyeon as the Rocket scientist looked over the menu and would point at her selection. "I'll have this one." While her drink was being made, her eyes carried over towards her new friend. "Are you by yourself here as well? I've never been to this casino before, so I'm just a tad bit intimidated by everything." she admitted. After the girl would answer, Soyeon gently picked the drink up from the bartender. It was an alcoholic drink akin to a cool colored slush with purple, blue and aquamarine colors swirling about. Her lips sipped from the straw as she felt the buzz hit almost immediately. This only encouraged her to continue taking lengthy, delicious sips from her fruity beverage before her liquid courage would give her confidence a much needed boost.

"Ah-I'm Soyeon, by the way." The woman said, beaming at Naia as she'd set her drink down and rode the buzz for a little while. "It's nice to meet such a lo- er, person! Yes, a fine person."

Jade fished his pasta and watched as it was cleared away. It seemed that wasn’t the end of the night though. As there was a multitude of other things they could do to end the night. The mention of dessert was what drew their attention most and he barely paid attention to what else was said after that. Considering he kept a pretty close eye on what he ate he didn’t eat sweets very often. It wouldn’t hurt him to indulge just this once.

He turned to his companions. ”I’m to check out deserts. You can both join me or I could grab you both one if either of you want desert,” he told them. He would wait for their decision before getting up to check out the deserts. Drawn instantly to the berry tarts he put one on a desert plate before making his way back to the table.

Sitting back down he began to enjoy the dessert. Before long he was done. That had been pretty good. But then again he had always had a soft spot for tarts. Especially if they were some kind of fruit tart. Once he was done he would return his attention to his companions.

”Well I think I’m going to try gambling again and then check out the fireworks,” he told them before getting up. ”You’re free to rejoin me,” he said before walking off. He went back to the poker tables and asked the dealer to deal him in. The young man would then look over his cards for a bit before deciding what to do.

Josh didn't want to load up on too many sweet treats, though today was special. He would just have to eat light for the next few days to make up for it. With how much lower body muscle he had, he didn't need excess fat weighing his Pokémon down more. "Decadent," was Josh's verbal reaction as he downed one of each of the cheesecake and brownie bites. It was better than any birthday cheesecake he had ever had. That was the only other routine occasion he had cheesecake; after all, any weight he gained would negatively affect his Pokémon's racing performance. Maintaining a healthy weight was of great importance to the Gym Leader.

"Sounds like a winner. See you on the floor." While it didn't take the rest of his second bullet to top off his stack, it took up most of it; this was more money than he planned on spending. Perhaps he could win some of it back.

Not right away; he had been cold-decked again. "Seven-deuce off-suit three hands in a row? Come on. Can we get a new dealer, please?" he asked in jest. Two tablemates with tall stacks chuckled.

Granted, he was only able to prove his argument because of the luck that came with winning out of the next set of numbers. The dinner was superb, but as the night wore on, and the call for the concluding fireworks came, Enzo found himself eager to step out onto the balcony and away from the chatter and music still in swing. Normally, he never tired of the noise and everything that Yumi had arranged for was excellent and a testament to her planning skills.[break][break]

A moment of quiet, though, sounded nice. Even his bickering with Kosei slowed its normally steady pace as he yet again dragged the other to their next destination–out the balcony doors and into the cool dark. Rather than step right up to the rail, he settled for a more secluded corner off to the side.[break][break]

The sizzle and crack of sound intercepted murmurings of quiet conversation as Bright blooms of color lit the night sky and colored Kosei’s profile in different hues. He’d (mostly) behaved, so could he deny himself from leaning up to pepper kisses along the other’s jaw? No. No he could not.[break][break]

Probably shouldn’t have been canoodling in a shadowy corner, but eh–it was late, and he didn’t really anticipate anyone paying them much mind. (Hopefully Yumi Hasegawa didn’t spot him, then he’d probably be in for a question or twenty.) Even that particular concern was tucked away in the back of his mind, though.[break][break]

“Terribly late, though, isn’t it? Can’t say I’m interested in taking the ferry now.” His chin propped on Kosei’s shoulder. The gesture was practically domestic of him. “Let’s just get one of these nice, redecorated rooms, yes?”[break][break]

The coy little smile on his face, however, was telling enough of the fact that he’d planned as much– of course, he’d already booked a room. The key card was, in fact, already in his pocket. “C’mon, I’ll get all those flowers out of your braid one way or another.”

Though it hadn't been the largest or flashiest cooking competition—far from it—Aurelie was always happy to be reminded that the people who had attended had enjoyed it.

"Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear you had a good time at the contest making your family's recipes," she said with warm sincerity to the magenta-haired woman with the black fascinator and feathered cape. "I've been thinking about hosting another contest sometime in the future, especially if there's interest from contestants."

She picked up the brownie on her plate, taking a moment to admire the delicate garnish of a plumeria flower on top of the confection, before taking a bite to punctuate her words. The rich, fudgy chocolate flavor made her close her single eye for a moment in sheer pleasure. "I guess you can tell I love food quite a bit," she admitted, smiling self-deprecatingly as her eye fluttered open again.

As the magenta-haired lady turned toward her partner in hopes of a dance, Aurelie shrugged and flashed the attractive couple a smile. "Enjoy your evening," she said politely to the lady, before finishing her brownie in another couple bites. Pondering the colorful flower, she grinned and threaded it into her hair, adding a tiny floral accent to her headpiece of golden leaves.

Her attention was drawn toward the row of slot machines only a few steps away from the dining table, still advertising many enticing prizes for playing. With a shrug, Aurelie nibbled on a crisp, buttery palmier and drifted over in front of it. Well, I am in a casino, after all, she reasoned. This is all part of the experience, right?

She pulled at the lever, before glancing back toward the table of diners and dessert enjoyers. "Wish me luck," she chuckled in their direction, before looking back at the machine to see if she actually won anything.

Josh had gotten dessert as well though he had gotten cheesecake and brownie bites. He wondered if the older male had a bit of a sweet tooth. The gym leader seemed pretty fit though. Deciding it didn’t really matter he just went back to the poker table after making sure Josh and Makoto knew where he was going.

In the end Josh was the only one to join him and they played against each other. He showed his cards and saw that compared to Josh he had the better hand. ”Seems I won this hand. Want to catch the fireworks?” he inquired already getting up. He was starting to get a slight headache but figured viewing the fireworks wouldn’t hurt.

Without another word he made his way out to see the fireworks on the balcony only looking behind him once to see if the gym leader was following. About half an hour later he was regretting his earlier thoughts. Now his head was pounding. He knew it was because he wasn’t used to sweets. Having rarely eaten them even before he left his home region.

Turning to the dark haired male he gave him an apologetic smile. ”I’m afraid I’m going to have to take my leave. I’m getting a headache. Seems years of very little sweets doesn’t prepare you well for something as sweet as those tarts,” he told the older male.

”Be careful on your way home,” he told him before walking off and making his way the casino and out to the doors.

when her pasta arrives, she happily eats her meal, with the occasional sip of wine in between. she'll enjoy the rest of her chat with oriel novikov with a smile on her lips, and careful with the sauce. ah, it's delicious still. it reminds her of home. it doesn't take her long to realize she's practically cleaned her plate, and her moment of bliss is now over. that's okay, though. dessert rolls out, and an immediate gleam sparks in her eyes. a waiter is kind enough to roll the trolley over to the table, and she's quick to grab herself a chocolate cheesecake with a smile on her lips. [break][break]

CASINO STARLIGHT IN SOOTOPOLIS IS REOPENING TO THE PUBLIC. After the departure of former Rocket underboss Killian Decker, the casino is now under new management. And what better way to commemorate such an occasion and usher in the summer than a party?[break][break]

Yumi Hasegawa is inviting one and all to a glamorous costume party at Casino Starlight, inspired by A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. Costumes themed after faeries and the feywild are encouraged. Bring your Fairy and Dark-type Pokémon with you, too! Come for dinner and a show, music and dancing, and of course, gambling![break][break]

ROUNDING OFF THE NIGHT

The clock ticks on, but most guests barely notice the passing of time, so engrossed are they by all that glitters within Casino Starlight.[break][break]

Some leave once their hunger and thirst are sated by decadent food and drink. Others enjoy the fireworks to the conclusion of the show before departing. But so many remain at the gambling tables and slot machines. Money disappears as easily as hopes, as quickly as dreams.[break][break]

And like dreams, so too does the revelry eventually fade. The man's voice returns to the PA system to announce the closing hour of the casino. The last drinks are purchased, the tabs are paid, and taxis are called. Some guests pay for a night at the attached hotel; ever in safety shall they rest.[break][break]

Finally, the casino falls dark for the night. Beds fill and streets empty. Night security sets up behind screens, watchful, wary.[break][break]

Trip away; make no stay;[break]
Meet again by the break of day…[break]

The hand couldn't get any better. "I call," the Gym Leader announced, the dealer sliding a red "ALL IN" button next to his cards. "Queens." He was a massive favorite to win the hand, Jade turning over a pair of tens. "Come on, dealer, one time!" The flop, no help to either of them. A ten and a ten only would save Jade. The turn, equally meaningless. He was one river card from a nice payday.

The river: a ten.

Josh thrust himself out of his chair and stormed away from the table, stomping toward the fireworks show. By the time he had caught up to jade rivers , he had calmed down. "Nice hand. Nice hand." The light show even gave Josh somewhat of a headache, deciding to also duck out of the evening's final event early. "Well, I need to get back home. I've got a fairly long flight back home to--"

He stopped himself short and sheepishly turned around. Had he given away his home town, anyone in Hoenn could have identified him. He was a League celebrity, after all! Close call averted, he would leave the way he came, retrieving his Dragonair from the casino's cage and soaring into the night sky when he was outdoors.

His Mauville apartment would be more comforting than any VIP suite the casino could offer. While the hotel was more extravagant, his apartment had character. And Raikou memorabilia.

- Josh suffers a bad beat and loses his entire stack to Jade.
- Josh enjoys the fireworks with Jade.
- Josh leaves the casino, gets on his Dragonair, and flies away into the night.

Costume: Dressed in his Halloween costume resembling his vision of what the Hero of Johto/Raikou's Avatar would look like. Very Medieval knight-like, with a a yellow-and-purple color scheme to it. "Lightning Paladin" is a good two-word phrase for the general motif.
