Okay…

Wait a fucking second.

That cheesy scene he remembered happened in a swimming pool and not out in the fucking ocean so there may have been a mistake!

Realizing this, he quickly began kicking upwards, towards the bright surface of the water, pulling the other with him before he broke the surface first and taking the first breath of air in a while after having dived down there.

“I just…realized something,” he began quietly, now that they were both (most likely) surface-side once again.

“That shit only worked in a swimming pool. Fuck, Frog, I almost killed you!” he stammered, feeling his face turn red again at the very belated realization.

And then… since they were already out here…

“I think it’s time I gave you my answer.”

The vibrant, gorgeous reef with its brilliant jewel hues and fascinating shapes had captured her attention for half an hour as she watched the anemones wave their tentacles, the fish swim slowly back and forth, and the colors of the reef change as the sunlight and water shifted overhead. Thankfully, she did find a Clamperl on her swim back to shore, and she felt all the luckier for having found both treasure and a rare, beautiful spectacle to think about for days afterward.
