A rumor has spread that a gang of grimscarl have been spotted deep within petalburg woods. Seasonal change has forced them out of hiding, trolling anyone who dares to enter their territory. Unfortunately for them, the ex gym leader wasn’t afraid of them. In fact, he wanted another one. Crimson colored orbs flickered over the landscape, the sounds of rustling leaves and nocturnal creatures ticked his eardrums. A low growl rumbled at his side, his gaze fell upon his beloved hell hound.

“Got something,” he mumbled softly, noting his canine baring her teeth in front of then. His gaze shifted to where her eyes set, spotting the large white dark and fairy time. It snickered at them, only for the snicker to be mimicked by several others around them hidden within the shadows of the trees. They were surround, red eyes suddenly revealed themselves confirming they were blocked in like some kind of freaky horror movie.

Azula let out a more menacing snarl, muzzle parted and lips lifted to show the full set of pearl whites she was ready to defense herself with. “Easy girl,” the man mumbled to her, his eyes on the shiny before him, “It’s alright.” She didn’t seem convinced, hunches stood on end and body tensed. And without any warning, the canine throw her head back in a howl. A sudden wind whirled around them, laced with fairy dust as it caused the gang to scattered. The springtime storm did its job. Maverick cursed under his breath, reaching into his pocket to toss a sphere at the shiny one. However, the scatter was chaos and the man was unsure if his aim was true.

He'd grown up in Galar, with tales of the Grimmsnarl who haunted travelers through the Glimwood Tangle and other forests being some of his favourite reads. Adulthood has seen him cautious for entirely different reasons as his boots crunch against the undergrowth of Petalburg Woods.

He was heading home after visiting Elisabeth Fiorelli in her cottage just outside of the city, venturing into the forest so as not to be spotted by citizens on a late-night walk.

Once he's far enough past the treeline, a Claydol is extracted from its capsule. It begins to spin up with the intention of TELEPORTING him away from the woods, but something slams into the clay creature before it can finish its move. In the dark of the forest, with the speed of its movement, it looks almost more CRYPTID than Pokémon, a BIGFOOT in its stomping grounds.

"Shit."

He sends out his shadows, and after a short scuffle pulls an empty luxury ball from his jacket.

Elio heard about the Grimmsnarl swarm that was sweeping Petalburgh Woods recently. While Fairy types weren't his usual pokemon type preference. He was willing to make an exception. Fairy pokemon in myth was absolutely twisted. He grew up with some foreign stories, himself. Changelings, brownies, and the like were the nicer of the various cryptids he heard about in his youth. Cause when it came right down to it, fairy pokemon can be quite terrifying. 'I mean they'd have to be if they can take down dragon types!' He thought with a grin.

He was definitely throwing out his Gabite, she'd be absolutely wrecked. Instead, he threw out his Pyroar - Iskandar, with the intent of setting the massive demonic-looking pokemon on fire. Perhaps it wasn't the best choice in the middle of a forest - but it was better than throwing out the dragon or the Cubone. After whittling down one of the Grimmsnarls health with a few chosen attacks - he threw a Pokeball, hoping to catch at least one of the bastards.

Hugo had a certain sort of quaint affection for misbegotten and the unusual. As proven by his own bizarre partnership with his otherwise irregular. The news of Grimmsnarl in the Petalburg woods drew his attention and he'd be lying to say he wasn't immediately intrigued. Of course, his husband, hazel albrecht , was quick to lash his opinions and Hugo was mutually quick to smack them down. What was wrong with casually seeking out every day woodland gremlins like it was his hobby? It was his hobby after all.

After coaxing his partner into humoring his wants (which was a harder feat than likely catching one of these ugly imps), he found himself traipsing through the dusk of Petalburg woodlands seeking them out. Finding them was not a hard ordeal, in the least, which was likely why notice had spread of the swarm relatively quickly. Unfortunately, he wasn't necessarily equipped with the appropriate pokemon to take on other fairy or dark types, but his pokemon were known to be rather relentless in their pursuits. So after a grueling ordeal, he finally threw a pokeball, hoping to catch one of them.

Traipsing about in the petalburg woods at night was not Hazel’s idea of an idyllic evening. The forest was dark and unnerving, and he could get mud on his nice shoes. All superficial reasons, and not at all because the dark invited all manner of creepy creatures to sneak up on him. Hazel had only just recovered from a trek in search of the moth man, and now he had to potentially endure weird little lurchy goblin fellows?[break][break]

But what had initially been envisioned as an outing that humored his partner’s eclectic Pokémon preferences had quickly devolved into a matter of pride when it was suggested by Hugo Albrecht , that he could just wait by the tree line if he was so frightened. And he was not to be outdone, or taken for a scaredy cat.[break][break]

Even if Hazel was, in fact, exactly that.[break][break]

A considerable amount of grumbling and tripping over tree roots and startling at every little sound (maybe it was a chupacabra) or passing shadow (and teasing that he did not humor with the satisfaction of a reaction, thank you,) the gathering of grimmsnarl was uncovered—not that it took much given the size of the unsightly, disproportionate creatures.[break][break]

Hazel didn’t even really attempt to engage in combat with any as he looked over at his husband with a flattened expression. “I’m going to laugh in your face if I catch this and you do not, Darcy.” Rather, he simply tossed a ball out—aiming for a smaller impidimp instead. Not really anticipating success at all.[break][break]

Kids could be so darn dumb. Navy loved ‘em, but they were dumb. Some kids had ran off into the woods chasing rumors about some weird thing called the mothman. Instead, they’d ran smack dab into a swarm of Grimmsnarl. It was Navy’s solemn duty to get the three kids home safely. After he’d found them, they stuck to him like glue. The kids shuddered as he walked through a dark, forested path. Navy had to admit, it was kinda spooky. He liked being spooked though.

“I’m tellin’ you kids, Mothman isn’t real.” Navy assured them in a quiet, hushed voice.

“How do you know that?!” A girl asked, scared and shivering.

“’Cause I was there when the bridge fell. It was just a Venomoth that got caught on camera at a weird angle. Scout’s honor.”

“Then…then, what’s that out there in the woods?” Something snickered a ways away. Ugh. These Grimmsnarl were the worst. Real jerks, even by the standards of jerk Pokemon. Harmless, but jerks nonetheless.

“Just Grimmsnarls. They’ll leave you alone if you do a little trick.”

“What trick is that?” The third kid said.

“This drive.” Navy wound up a pitch like he was a baseball pitcher and threw a pokeball through the woods. It thunked as it hit something. The children, their spirits freshly bolstered, cheered Navy on.

Angelo Vestri was not lost.

Growing up in the depths of Alto Mare, he'd quickly grown accustomed to navigating the maze of canals and knowing which tiny corridor nestled between buildings or rusted, ornate bridges best utilised his footfalls. This honed knack now poured into mapping Hoenn to memory and paper.

He was simply gathering data on the terrain...

It just so happened as he walked back Rustboro way after his adventure through the mysterious woodlands, that the forest had come to life. Squirming and shifting in the unseen shadows, shapes changing within the gloom.

Angelo could've sworn at one point hair had brushed past the back of his hand, cold and damp like a swamp monsters tendrils.

He grimaces as he brushes the back of his hand against his sleeve, watching the darkness shift around him as he wills the forest's secrets to reveal itself.

“Feel like comin' out of hiding?” He beckons, undaunted with pokeball in hand. “Or are you guys feeling a little shy?”

Creatures following in Angelo's shadow isn't anything new. In fact, feeling the wamrth of red eyes watching over his back, was nothing short of a source of great comfort nowadays.

As she trudged under Petalburg Woods' shadowy canopy, Ruby thought back to the recent Rocket meeting. Why couldn't they have picked this place instead of freaking Ghost Mountain for their Primal Point siege? Sure, it was dark, and others may have jumped at every shiver of the shadows, but Ruby knew what she was getting into here. When spirits were involved, though? Who knew what the hell would happen? It wasn't like Ruby could just punch those problems away, either.

[break][break]She shook her head, scattering those thoughts to the whispering winds. Focus. You're here for the swarm, not to bitch about Rocket's plans.

[break][break]Not many people in their right mind would willingly wander this far into the woods when there were reports of horrifying creatures terrorizing people, but Ruby wanted some of that terror on her side. These Bigfoot of the woods would make an excellent addition to her team with their strength and intimidating looks. (Bigfoot was such a lame urban legend, Ruby thought. The chupacabra was way cooler and actually did things besides show up in blurry-ass pictures.)

After all the hubbub during the big meeting in Sootopolis over Petalburg Woods, Bishop decided to check out the location himself, even though it was no longer the target of a Rocket operation. He found the city quaint and the surrounding forest a relaxing place for a casual hike.[break][break]

However, on that particular day, BIshop found himself a little lost. Having grown up in Lumiose City, he was woefully unprepared for an outdoors excursion. Twists and turns in the trail brought him deeper into the woods than he'd expected. Sure, he could teleport out with his trusty Gallade, but where was the fun in that?[break][break]

As Bishop puzzled over the map on his phone, he heard a snarl from between the trees. Peering cautiously, he saw none other than a Grimmsnarl lurking amongst the underbrush, watching him with highly intelligent, scrutinizing eyes. It was as if the BIGFOOT rumors had come sharply to life, and if Bigfoot was a mean, green-and-purple goblinoid.[break][break]

"Hey there, little guy," Bishop said in the most disarming voice, even as he slowly reached for a Poké Ball at his belt.[break][break]

In a flash, his Honedge appeared by his side. The Grimmsnarl's gaze darted to the new arrival, its entire body tense and ready to spring.[break][break]

"Go," the human murmured to his Pokémon, who lunged at the wild one in a vicious SLASH attack.[break][break]

Why did he feel like such a clown running around in the Petalburg Woods?

Wasn’t this like, one of the places that Guillermo Marceliño had warned him about, that would eventually become one of the so-called ‘Primal Points’ when that thing in the sky came crashing down like a fiery herald of doom from the heavens to wipe them all—

Oh, that’s right, clowns… why did he feel like Pennywise anyway?!

(No, Alexei isn’t afraid of clowns, but It was more than enough to give him the fucking creeps as well…)

Geez, and some of the Pokémon running wild here resembled the tell-tale clown from that horror series… boy…

Callan did spy on October 12's night, a scary apparition that did give him much fright.

Upon the grass thickets within the Petalburg Woods, came a large GRIMMSNARL, and Callan understood.

That within the Eldritch Fiend's hairy black chest, lay a heart of purest intentions to be put to the test.

He unlatched his ultra ball from belt, and from his mouth did the Elite Four yell:

"TAKE MY BALL. AND THROUGH IT ALL, I SHALL BE YOUR MASTER PROPER AND WELL."

As the ball shook, so too did Callan's heart from afar. Uh... Something something, rage candy bar.

Grimmsnarl, a Pokemon whose appearance might allude to some monster-like origin. But whether such an origin was true or not mattered little to Johanna.

She knew better than to judge it based on its horror inducing appearance. And so she had arrived at the swarming point ready to protect the Grimmsnarl swarm for those who might seek to do it excessive harm.

And of course as any good trainer would, perhaps catch one of them along the way. She certainly tried to do so by throwing a pokeball at one of them, yet as she did an OMINOUS WIND blew.
