UNKNOWN LOCATION — By clandestine communication, you've signed up to assist a secretive syndicate in finding the remaining Megalopolans in Hoenn. After the Megalopolans had been decimated in the Ultra Beast War, Megalopolan generals like Velmos himself have forged alliances with various human organizations and seek to reassemble their people. However, many Megalopolans remain unaware. Remain hostile. And many may possess hidden agendas.[break][break]

You arrive at a secret location and await further instruction. But no instruction comes. Suddenly, a burlap sack is placed over your head and your limbs are struck by what you surmise to be Poipole adhesive. Promptly, you're knocked out.[break][break]

When you come to, you're strapped to a chair in a small room. It is pitch black save for the bright light coming from what appears to be a big screen playing endless TV static. The sound of a cassette tape being pushed into a player is heard before a recording plays. On the screen, Velmos, a Megalopolan general, appears.[break][break]

"Greetings, subject. You are here today to be assessed for your ability to discern Megalopolans among the populace. If you hear clawing at the door behind you, do not make a sound." Velmos speaks calmly, though his sharp teeth peek through his pale lips. "I am here on behalf of my comrade Cotillard. He disguised our people during the Ultra Beast War using his modified shiny machines. This is where your human eyes come in."[break][break]

Velmos' image shifts to the left, allowing space for text to be read.[break][break]

"After instruction, you will be presented with two images. One of an ordinary Hoennian and one of a disguised Megalopolan. It is up to you to select the Megalopolan by verbally stating 'A' or 'B'. Choose wisely. Your life may depend on it."[break][break]

Several criteria are listed to help you determine disguised Megalopolans:[break][break]

Slight blue-tint to the skin or eyes.

Strong, sharp teeth.

Biological irregularities caused by degradation over time or imperfections in the shiny machine's conversion of appearance.

The activation of a sudden fight-or-flight response, as if you were being hunted as prey.

They are watching you too closely.

A kidnapping, whilst searching for Megalopolans; this certainly was one way to start a story. And they were now to assess whether they could tell the difference between humans and disguised Megalopolans...

Briefly, Makoto wondered - would pokemon count for loved ones? They certainly had plenty of pokemon who'd notice their absence. But as far as people went well... Besides for a certain family member, Makoto wasn't sure if there was anyone that they'd call a loved one. And they weren't even sure if she'd notice them being missing, given the current state of things with her.

After a moment's thought though, they'd decide to settle with Option 3 - No. Certainly, they had plenty of beloved pokemon - but they weren't sure if that was what this person was talking about. And if pokemon counted, well...

... We do a little trolling sometimes, as the kids say. It was a game, in the end - a couple of oddball answers wouldn't hurt anyone.

And even if he hadn't? Building a game based on a cannibal war criminal, still fresh in the minds and confirmed to be walking the streets, is a callous move. Assholes.

Nikita did not like this newest round of nonsense. This game had felt like an invasion of privacy before. Now, it felt almost dangerous. Still, this route seemed a decent option for investigating the three disappearances that had been brought before.

Nikita thought of Sam and his smiling face. He recalled the soft patchwork texture of the heroic Vulpix's fur on a warm night. Then, of course,
came the glowing eyes of his bosom buddy, Detective Winters II. But sharing these things with a cannibalistic madman would be the epitome of foolishness. Today, he did not play as Nikita.

Andrea had yet to see a Megalopolan that wasn't a mummified corpse or a skeleton, but this Velmos guy was definitely one of them. Blue skin? Check. Spaceman uniform? Check. Handlebar mustache? Not check, but maybe that wasn't a universal trait.

But why kidnap her and threaten her life if he just needed help with finding his friends? That wasn't very nice of him. As much as she wanted to ask the renegade general how he'd gotten his teeth to look so cool, the options the game gave her were very limited. She didn't know what her loved ones had to do with the assessment. Unless... Was Velmos about to reveal that one of her loved ones was a Megalopolan?

Now this was a premise Ruby could get behind. Sniffing out the remaining Megalopolans and possibly making them pay for what they did to her family, even if just in a game? Count Ruby to hell in.

[break][break]Oh. Okay, this was already off to a crappy start. Kidnapped in a dating game. What the hell? So she was supposed to pick out disguised Megalopolans? That was fine by her. It'd be useful practice, if nothing else.

(She was still going to throttle someone for that later.) It'd know she was lying. And there was no option to just keep her mouth shut, either. So, with an annoyed sigh, she picked the simple "Yes."

He’d already had the odd encounter of his personal connections popping up in-game, but how far down the rabbit hole did all of the data collection go?[break][break]

Apparently far enough to drag megalopolans into the mix. He dropped his chopsticks as he stared at the phone screen in front of him. He’d done his research of course. He’d never personally encountered Velmos. But he sure had done enough digging to recognize his face. “Hm..”[break][break]

Having developed just enough connections as of late to warrant a [yes], he tapped it without a second thought. No way he was just handing this game free names, though.

And just when Elaine thought the concepts for this game couldn't get any more ridiculous, she found herself eating her words. The more she saw of this, the more she decided it would just be better to expect the unexpected overall with this. She had no idea what Macro Cosmos was thinking when they developed this, but it was clearly getting stranger and stranger with every turn.

"A kidnapping is an interesting premise, though. But romancing the kidnapper..."

Elaine was a woman who understood the ways of the world but not the ways of romance. The best she could do was to try to tackle this kind of thing the same way she would tackle any other kind of human relations.

Velmos. Eva wrinkles her nose at the screen, a deep seeded suspicion aching in her belly. It was no longer a secret Meaglopolans walked among them. The idea of seeing if she could pick them out was intriguing. And perhaps it’s that knowledge that led her to accept the co-op round with Velmos. She was suspicious, however, of the possibility that it could be Megalopolans behind this game in general. After all, they couldn’t be too careful witht heir data now-a-days. There’s no use in lying to the game, it already knows she has loved one. It was no secret even in the real world that Eva was a bleeding heart. She selects Yes, but goes no further to name those she considers ‘loved ones’.
