Imagine how excited I was when I saw the crystabloom events going -- FLOWERS and INFINITY ENERGY! A perfect reason to have a science thread with Lulu Flint. I have been a huge fan of how mad writes Lulu for ages, and it has been such a pleasure introducing the two characters in this thread and seeing them approach the mystery of the crystablooms from their opposite scientific disciplines. I also really enjoy the little parallels we get to hint at where neither is classically trained, having taught themselves all their hard-won knowledge and using it for the glory of Rocket. This thread has been so fun for me in general because it lets me stick Elisabeth in a place I wouldn't normally get to write her, with someone who has a lot more in common with her than you'd think at first blush. I also can really see the layers that Red is putting into Summer here, and it's been great to tease them out in dialogue. <3 [break]

post summary: This thread comes on the heels of Apologies, where Elisabeth and Felix establish an awkward trauma-bonded friendship. Where normally they'd have just done a mission together and never spoken again, they are instead intimately tied to one another's past: Elisabeth wants to help Felix kill the person who haunts him, and Felix wants to atone for almost murdering Elisabeth on accident in the Petalburg Woods. After so much heavy storytelling, Snowfall gives Cap and I the opportunity for something with more levity where the two stoic Rockets engage instead in banter and ice skating. It's been fun to let Elisabeth's competitive nature shine here, and for Felix to drop his own serious demeanor to enjoy being around Elisabeth without the specter of guilt looming over them both. It's a joy to update this with Cap and to explore the ways in which this shared activity gives them a safe space to see one another as friends, rather than colleagues. [break]

post summary: Spiral and I have been dancing around this flirtation between our characters since the Palentine's Day event in February. Since then, the two of them have had late night phone calls and unexpected social calls alike. Slow-burn arcs are some of my favorite to write, and I've enjoyed the time that Spiral and I have been able to take in building this fragile foundation for our characters to slowly bond with one another; both are, objectively, terrible people, but both are entirely unaware of the sheer depravity of the other person, which is delightful. In this thread, Elisabeth's walls lower somewhat, the presence of the man that she normally speaks to late at night by phone standing before her as flesh and blood. And despite secretly knowing it's best to do otherwise, she ultimately lets herself be a moth drawn to flame. Thanks for the pre-eye-gouging fluff, Spiral! [break]

This is a pretty dark and heavy thread, so don't read unless you're prepared for uncomfortable subject matter, but I have appreciated Thorn's willingness to do this kind of storytelling with me (I'm a sucker for good old fashioned psychological horror and romance gone wrong). Equally important, if not moreso, is that this thread marks just how close Elisa and Gavin have become not only as Rocket colleagues, but as friends. Writing a character who is slow to open up about herself and trust others makes relationships like this so valuable to me as a writer, and I'm forever grateful Thorn is willing to run with what I throw at her. It's a nice reversal from a previous thread that Laika and I wrote together, Peace Lilies, and exploring grief in this thread between Gigi and Elisa has been really enjoyable for me as a writer -- and another wonderful exploration into the dynamic between these two unlikely friends.[break]

post summary: I chose this thread for the white rose, despite the fact it could apply to a lot of prompts here, because one of the most lovely things in the way it's concluding is the way that Elisabeth Fiorelli and Rowan Wrynn value the same thing: freedom and independence. This is, in some ways, in complete disregard of what the Rocket organization would prefer -- blind obedience -- but in this post, Elisabeth expresses her hope to Rowan that he will continue to doubt and test his ties to Rocket, because it ensures he is there because he wants to be. This entire thread has been such a blast to write, and Banished has kindly allowed for my character to get additional insights into stories that she otherwise wouldn't have through the way the narrative unfolds here. But what I really take away from it is the way in which these two very different people, at their core, are so much the same, and their hopes echo one another's.[break]
