Without warning, the sky darkened with an ominous aura. Lightning cracked, whiplike, above them. Marshall froze, more alarmed than anything — but then strange Pokémon seemed to materialize out of thin air and began attacking the crowd. People screamed, panicked, ran. Marshall watched as someone jostled , causing her to stumble and fall to her knees. [break][break]

Surging into action, he grabbed 's shoulder. "We gotta go!" Marshall shouted at the other man, releasing his Arcanine from a Pokéball with his free hand. "Diesel, keep the wild Pokémon at bay!" [break][break]

Marshall hauled Nomi to her feet and grabbed 's hand. With a final backward glance at Tam and , he bolted for the entrance with the girls in tow. Diesel followed closely, scorching approaching adversaries with carefully applied flame. [break][break]

Marshall was so focused on getting to safety that he did not notice the way his own Pokémon twisted into something unfamiliar as they ran. It was not until they were safely outside of the venue did he slow down and look back to make sure Tam and Noah were following. A gasp escaped his lips when his eyes fell upon the transformed Arcanine, his pale fur having darkened to a smoky gray. [break][break]

"Buddy, what happened? You okay?" Marshall asked, tentatively extending a hand to his Pokémon. [break][break]

Diesel dipped his head toward his trainer's outstretched hand and dropped a strange red fragment into his palm.

“Good idea. Thanks, man.” He calls after as the blonde dashes off to get some water, sparing but a glance as the helpful stranger ducks into the buzz of the partying crowd.

That just leaves Angelo with and the Delibird, the postman looking smaller than he thinks he's seen them yet.

Regardless of what Locke decides, a breather seems to be last on Splashfest's agenda.

From the sky emerges a familiar sight, the space-time distortion covering the festivities in darkness and replacing thunderous applause with angry, whipping static. 

“Alright. Looks like we're moving!” Standing, Angelo takes 's arm and encourages him to get to his feet, gaze darting to the parade of Delibird. Could they all be returned to their pokeballs in time? “These things don't stick around for very long but stay close, alright?”

He'd rather avoid a trip to the child lost and found booth to pick up a distressed penguin, if he could help it.

From beneath their invisible down, a shield of LIGHT SCREEN shivers around the group and a PSYCHIC blast knocks an Ursaluna back whom strayed too close. Its large form sent to the ground away from any festival attendees.

The Eon duo Angelo and Locke's unseen protectors in the chaos.

"Oh my, what an unexpected turn of events!" The man said, those within his vicinity giving a mildly annoyed look at the blatant sarcasm.

We get it, man, Hoenn sucks! Screw you!

"You said it, not me." The man replied with a chuckle, turning his attention back to the madness unfolding around them.

He hadn't spent a great lot of time inside these so called Distortions. There were quite the number of side-effects, and given how old he already was, he had held little interest in crunching through his life span when they had become more common.

Unfortunately, sometimes, you didn't get a choice in the matter.

"Poor Commissioner . This region won't let us free even in moments of respite." He huffed to himself, grasping a pokeball from his belt. "Well, might as well get it over with."

'Well, the music wasn't that great anyway.' Though the 18-year-old boomer as the world began to turn purple, brow twitching as he slowly reached for the pokeballs underneath his hat.

"You know, maybe we shouldn't have challenged this cursed ass island!" Shouted the youth at no one in particular, going mostly ignored by the crowd of screaming normies attempting to escape the distortion in vain. "Celebration schmetion, this damn region won't let us rest!"

He was tempted to give a call just to chew her out for essentially challenging karma, but that wouldn't solve shit.

"Damn it, this was my break time too." He huffed as he began chucking pokeballs everywhere. Even on his goddamn mandatory vacation days, he had to work. "FORM UP! WE'RE ON CIVILIAN PROTECTION DUTY!"

When the distortion appears, he’s not particularly concerned. Maybe he should be, especially considering how he had warned more than once about the dangers of these space-time rifts, but the reality of the matter is that Mars has stepped into them enough time for it to almost seem… mundane.

It’s unexpected for one to appear at a concert when everyone is enjoying themselves, sure, but when he feels the shift in the air that marks the distortion’s appearance, Mars comes to a single conclusion: it makes perfect sense.

”Typical Hoenn.” He sighs, standing to take his leave. The thought crosses his mind to just teleport Barnaby out of here and go somewhere less chaotic, but alas, he'd rather not use such an ability in public, and POG Bank CEO as he is, is he not supposed to be here for the people of Hoenn? If the League won't defend them, then someone has to, don’t they?

”Calli.” His most loyal Blastoise is released from the confines of a Luxury Ball, and almost immediately, a HYDRO CANNON is shot to stop a Kleavor headed in the way of a terrified group.

”There’s an emergency exit straight that way. Get out of here while you can.” Mars tells them, his attention then turning back to Barnaby and his newly changed Growlithe. Interesting. ”Come on, we should leave too.”

But, first and foremost, better to take advantage of the change to release his Basculin, no? After all, he has heard they can evolve in distortions.

While watching the levitating fish change, he notices a glimmer of red stuck in her scales. A red shard, no less.

”Oh… Do you think we look alike?” Lia asks with genuine curiosity when she assumes that her and must be related. She doesn’t see it, honestly. But, then again, it’s not like she has any brothers to serve as a comparison point.

”We’ve never met before, no, but it’s really nice to meet you regardless, Aidan.” Over the sound of Teravolt's music, she smiles at the man of ashen hair and then turns to look at their other companion. The smile remains upon her lips, gaze meeting his. ”And you, Cade.”

Lia had not expected to end up meeting new people, but it would seem as if surprises never end. Hoenn always has a way to defy people’s expectations, does it not? This is something that, as a historian, Lia knows well. Then again, it's not like it's a bad thing in this case. Perhaps making new acquaintances is the best possible way to cope with everything that has been happening. Meet new people, make happy memories...

Hoenn really feels like defying expectations today.

Before she can even finish her sentence, a familiar crackling fills the air, and above them, the dark membrane of a distortion spreads, surrounding the area.

”Shit… We need to get out of here.” As if on cue, strange pokémon begin to appear, and be it due to her ranger training or innate reflexes, Lia is quick to act. From an Ultra Ball, a Decidueye is released, SPIRIT SHACKLE binding an unusual Goodra headed straight for the trio. The bird dives down there and then, talons closing into a deadly SUCKER PUNCH.

But, something is not right. While in the air, the Decidueye begins to change, and by the time it returns to Lia’s side, it looks different.

”...Ju?”

The distortion had changed the avian pokémon, and apparently it’s all too aware of that, for in its talons it holds a RED SHARD that it soon offers to Lia.

Hideo couldn't blame himself for letting his guard down here: it'd been a long while since the last distortion occurred. And they didn't seem to pop in the same area more than once, so he hadn't expected another to hit Slateport. And in such a crowded area too.

But his Oranguru was more than enough to keep him safe; the sheer number of trainers here meant she wouldn't have to do much work to keep Hideo safe, and it sounded like there was already some kind of authority trying to get a handle on things. She'd leave the hard work to as she gently guided Hideo away from the majority of the fighting.

Though she did have to give a couple ornery newcomers some Foul Play to keep them at bay. But hey, it was to be expected.

Along the way, Hideo felt his foot hit a familiar piece of glass that always showed up during these things. He grabbed it, intending to keep it as a kind of souvenir. He always did when he found these things.

Maybe he'd find out what to do with them at some point?

”Fuck my life.” Is what Tam mutters under his breath the moment static fills the air, recognizing it as the telltale sign of a space-time distortion being about to appear. Sure enough, the skies darken, unusual pokémon suddenly materialise out of thin air, and people begin to panic.

”Closest exit to the left. You might wanna get Xiura and Nomi out of here.” Tam tells @marshall, calmly reaching into his pocket to retrieve his Ranger armband. It’s gold, the colour of a captain. ”Noah, help me with the crowd. First priority is evacuation.”

With instructions having been given to and with his armband now in place, Tam gives Marshall a pat on the shoulder before simply nodding in and ’s direction. From two green pokéballs, a Chansey and Snorlax are released, and just like he had done with Noah, Tam is quick to give instructions to the pokémon:

”Chansey, SWEET SCENT to draw them to you. Snorlax, you handle the rest.”

They move away from the group, his job as a ranger coming first and foremost. Cantankerous wild pokémon are dealt with to clear a path for the crowd, one of them being a huge bear-like creature. Ursaluna, as League scientists have apparently named the species.

Tam decides to keep that one for himself, and by the time he makes it out of the venue, he looks rather dishevelled. Still, Tam being Tam, he’s composed as ever.

priam wanted to look surprised when the distortion happens, but he's always ready for one. after all, he already has a pokemon ready for when it happens.

kyle blinks at 's statement before he uses the strange happenings as an excuse to change topics.

"oh, would you look at that. a distortion's happening right now."

he's seen a couple of pokemon change forms within these weird bubbles of strangeness, and he supposed it's only the norm for people to take advantage of it over doing anything else more logical.

he sets his growlithe out, uses a fire stone at it, and then watches it change the second time as it adapts to the conditions it's been subjected to upon getting out of its ball.

"cool. the people of hoenn sure are reliable when it comes to times like this."

as the pokemon shifts, kyle stares at how the crowd responds. despite the sarcastic words coming out from his mouth, his eyes still looked for problems to fix. everything else seems to resolve itself though.

For a moment, Julia thought the violet being painted across the sky was some sort of high-tech special effect. But then she felt the crackling in her mouth. Special effects weren't supposed to do that. Nor were they supposed to spawn the familiar cracks in the sky and flashes of what looked like lightning. No way... Was this a space-time distortion?!

[break][break]Already, people were panicking. Screams filled the distorting air. People pushed and stumbled over each other in their desperation to get away. Security guards shouted for order and guided people away from the chaos, and it was Julia's duty as a Ranger to help.

[break][break]She hurriedly put on her armband and badge before joining Slateport Ranger Captain and the other Rangers that had gathered around him. It looked like he had this part of the evacuation under control, so Julia figured the best way she could help was by staving off the aggressive wild Pokémon appearing from seemingly nowhere.

[break][break]What looked like a taller, bluer Sneasel with wicked-looking long claws materialized dangerously close by. Julia didn't even have time to think about how it might differ from a regular Sneasel or Weavile. She grabbed Spot's Poké Ball from her belt and tossed it out. "Spot, hold it off!" she shouted.

[break][break]Spot shot an Aura Sphere at the Sneasler. It flinched a bit at the attack, but not as much as Julia had been expecting. Then, it rushed forward and pummeled Spot with a series of clawed punches using Close Combat. Spot growled in pain and fell to one knee, already looking exhausted.

[break][break]"Come on back!" Julia called before recalling the Lucario in a red beam of light. Already, the Sneasler had its sights set on her; she had to think fast! If it barely took damage from Aura Sphere, then it probably wasn't Dark/Ice. Maybe it was Fighting? That Close Combat was the best hint Julia had. She tossed another Poké Ball onto the battlefield. "Chester, let's go! Use Drill Peck!"

[break][break]Once he'd materialized, Chester ran forward, cawing his determination. His beaks glowed with Flying-type energy before he drove all of them into the Sneasler at once. The Sneasler cried out and fell to the ground. It looked like that worked!

[break][break]"Great job, guys!" Julia looked around to make sure there wasn't anyone left to evacuate. "Come on, let's get out of here!" Chester nodded one head and ran over to Julia so she could hop on his back. Together, they rode out of the distortion.

What do you see before it's over? - Blinding flashes getting closer

Everything was going way too good and peaceful, other than the hazard that had been the flying packets of ketchup but now this, this space-time distortion thing that Noah had never dealt with in his short lived life. Noah really hoped that the person who just jinxed their day would get hit by two ketchup packets and the worse possible punishment a human could endure; Forever wet socks.

Thankfully was around and taking charge of the situation like the great Ranger Captain he was. Noah himself with a small experience with chaotic crowds from having to deal with stockpile crazed people would release Titan, the Tyranitar from his pokeball. Following the orders from Tam he would start signaling people out using Tyranitar as both a reference point for people to find the exit and to shield those that were making their way.

He had seen @marshall fall into action and take the two girls towards an exit and a safer place. As less and less people were left to evacuate Noah himself would start moving towards the exit himself along with his Tyranitar till he was back with his old party. Just before he made his full way out of the venue he would spot a small red shard in the sand, he would pocket that, a surprise tool that'll help him later on.

Looking back towards , and @marshall . "Thanks for the help back there!" He would say giving Marshall a big nod. "You two doing okay?" He'd ask the girls, letting his Ranger training take over his instincts for a moment, knowing full well that Tam would be okay, he's a man of focus commitment and sheer will after all.

's arrival was a surprise to the courier, one quickly explained by another brush of concern against the back of his mind. Gratitude for the invisible dragon wormed its way past the panic, warm against the ice grip of fear in his chest.

He nodded, throat still raw from hyperventilating, though he still managed to mutter a small "Thank you" to before they temporarily parted ways.

Locke took another deep breath as the other man left, the air coming easier now that Teravolt was exiting the stage. His gaze focused on the ground, watching the shadow of a gathering storm cloud.

Too bad, the weather was forecasted to be clear all-

Thunder crashed, and the area around the stage was suddenly thrust into violet darkness. They'd only experienced this once outside Petalburg, but Locke instantly recalled the dangers of the space-time distortion they were currently in the middle of.

The Delibirds are momentarily thrust into a panic. De-De hopped off her trainer's lap to try and corral them, while Locke's first instinct was to protect Paxton's left behind Pokémon, scooping the raggedy Meowth into one of their arms at the same time Angelo grabbed the other and pulled them into a sprint.

"But Paxton!" they shouted above the commotion, ducking out of the way as an unidentifiable move soared overhead-whether from another trainer or one of the unusual looking Pokémon terrorizing them. A giant Kleavor cut their protest short, lunging for the postman and pilot before being knocked away by a barrage of Presents.
