THE BIG LEAP ACROSS THE OPENING CURVES, Pokémon able to reliably muster the speed for it only on the race's final lap, would make or break competitors' races. Success meant a huge jump in track position, and failure meant falling into the large net below and elimination from contention. Crash-outs were not uncommon; such was the nature of Pokémon racing. While the risk was great, the reward was potentially greater, cutting across some back-and-forth turns just past the starting line.[break][break]
THOSE TOWARD THE BACK were incentivized to take the daring leap, provided they had confidence in their Pokémon: kyle lopez , Matt Vice , and their ARCANINE, showing no fear whatsoever, led the back half of the pack up the outer ramp, springing above the course with EXTREME SPEED so fast they very nearly overshot the jump, the strength with which the giant dogs had to turn threatening to wrench their riders off.[break][break]
THE ALMOST PARALYZING SPEED launched kyle lopez and his partner right next to Julia Davis , her DODRIO having to give the commanded AGILITY everything it had just to keep up with him around the next two 90-degree corners. While Josh Devlin 's MANECTRIC didn't have the raw speed the two ahead of them did, his electric Pokémon's QUICK ATTACK chain slowly gained him ground against the front of half of the field. If he could keep up the solid racing, he might be able to catch some of them![break][break]
WHAT WAS MORE IMPRESSIVE was Eva Morales 's trust in her RAPIDASH's raw speed. She pushed the blazing-blue Pokémon to the highest speed the two were comfortable with, saving her stamina for later on in the course, presumably at the very end. After reaching the peak of their leap, the two descended like a miniature meteor from the sky, taking Alexei Ivanov and his Galarian RAPIDASH by surprise, the two locked in a battle for 11th position.[break][break]
OTHERS CHOSE TO PRESERVE THEIR POSITION, whether by force or by decision. In the cases of the giant snakes' riders, Elinor Anderson and Kaida Adachi , there was no recovering if they were even slightly off course. Making the prudent decision to take the wavy detour, the ONIX swerved left, Kaida's sights on the leaders Isaac Merlo and Raziel Beckett in front of her. She had started her turn back to the main part of the course far too late, sliding along the outside wall and losing almost all of her speed. Elinor Anderson 's STEELIX and Toshiaki Macallan 's ARCANINE whizzed past in blurs of gold and rocky red. nicodemus unken had split up from Matt Vice , he and his GOGOAT focused on finishing the race above all else, even if it was in a distant 14th position.[break][break]
NEAR DISASTER
SEVERAL RACERS NEAR THE FRONT intended to cut the corner and close the gap on the leaders, Isaac Merlo and Raziel Beckett . Gwyar Wledig and MATIAS SILPH were, without question, in it to win it. They were not afraid of a fall. The leader guided his TAUROS left across the meandering curves that all three of the others intended to cut, punishing Isaac for his hesitancy via their simultaneous calls for AGILITY.[break][break]
By fortune or technique, all three of them had managed to stay in bounds despite falling short of their intended leaps. An unintended nonverbal command to veer slightly left off the ramp ended up saving MATIAS SILPH 's DODRIO from a race-ending fall. Raziel Beckett and Gwyar Wledig , with the assistance of their Pokémon's psychic powers, were able to alter their trajectory mid-leap and land safely near the outside of the safer path. While it ended up costing them all the time they would have saved from a full commitment to the shorter path, they were still in the race![break][break]
POUR IT ON! YOU'RE WAY OUT IN FRONT!
Isaac Merlo FOUND HIMSELF WITH A COMFORTABLE LEAD, an equally large gap separating Raziel Beckett and an enormous battle for 3rd position. Gwyar Wledig , MATIAS SILPH , Elinor Anderson , and Toshiaki Macallan were sliding around the right-angle corners four wide, not giving an inch. Even kyle lopez , Julia Davis , and Josh Devlin were not out of the running for the final podium spot. There was still a lot of the last lap to go, and with the most treacherous parts of the course still coming, none of the racers could lose their focus for even a split second![break][break]

PROMPT: The two giant snakes flying around the course had caused the middle section of the ski-jump-like slope to break apart. While there were still narrow sections of ramp that Pokémon could use to easily get airborne, it would require much more precise steering for racers to use. Particularly wide-bodied Pokémon could be prone to falls due to inadvertently stepping off what remained of the track. The alternative was sliding down the steep slope initially intended for the two colossal Ground-types, but they would have to either plow through or dodge some debris at the bottom![break][break]
