Callan danced like a man balancing himself on rickety stilts in comparison to Elinor's graceful, upper-class trained ballroom dancing.

By some miracle, not only does Callan manage to shift through the crowd without knocking someone over, but he also managed to do so without accidentally dropping steps alongside Elinor. Soon, he got comfortable, the tempo was right, and whenever he got nervous or frustrated, he could always rely on Elinor to adjust. And it became less about him, and more the moment as he looked into her eyes and they swayed across the floor.

Alas, the music had to end.

"Yeah, let's go do that." Callan spoke, before taking Elly by the hand from the dance floor. A quick visit to the bartender later and with an espresso martini in hand, Callan looks across the exhibits. "Let's go take a look at the Sea Queen's hoard." The other exhibits were things he had lived through, and he'd rather not spend tonight battling. As much as he liked it, tonight was a break from work.

The both of them approach the exhibit, meeting both thalia black and Gunner Graves. "Hey." He greets the two with a friendly wave of the hand. Callan already knew Thalia, but the blonde gentleman Gunner was a man he only knew on a face basis, and that was due to Mt. Pyre. Callan gleans the treasures exhibited by Nautica, before his eyes catch the giant pearl. "Suppose you had to steal a part of the exhibit. How would you do it?"

This takes place after the events of So Bitter and so Sweet

Satisfied with the result of his dance with Yumi Hasegawa - he'd keep an eye on her, for she struck him as a promising upstart within the Rocket organization - Girard parted from her, only to be immediately run into by someone else (john nelson) on the dancefloor.[break][break]
Girard stumbled, momentarily dazed, then realized the person who had crashed into him was holding onto his shoulder for support. Girard blinked, taking in the sight of a rather nondescript man in a well-tailored (if simple) black suit and a mask that was reminiscent of the superhero comics Girard had read as a kid.[break][break]
The man also seemed quite drunk.[break][break]
"Are you allright?" Girard asked with a chuckle, taking hold of both of the man's shoulders and helping him straighten back up. "Let's find you a comfortable seat, eh? Somewhere nice you can sit down and rest. I hear they'll be serving dinner soon. Any ideas what it might be?" Some food might do this man some good, Girard thought with an amused smile. And a tall glass of water.[break][break]
Girard had been considering checking out one of the exhibits, but he felt suddenly compelled to help this rather adorable man out. Girard was not always so charitable... perhaps the alcohol was getting to his head, too.

Not just in appearance, but in spirit— though all the white certainly helps. If Genevieve Cromwell told her she'd descended from heaven just to help her, Luka would absolutely believe it.[break][break]

And how nice it would be, to have a guardian angel! What a romantic notion...[break][break]

She beams, returning the curtsey with a saccharine smile to match. Giggles float up between the two women like soap bubbles as Luka leads Genevieve out onto the dance floor, and doesn't particularly mind that it's emptied out as other partygoers wander off to visit the exhibits. It means they have more room to themselves, a bit more privacy...and there's less people around that'll notice if she accidentality steps on the poor girl's toes![break][break]

Their dance is lovely (I'm assuming, because Fish is busy and hasn't been able to write anything waah sorry!!), though it ends perhaps a bit more quickly than she'd like. Still, Luka steps back with a gracious smile, though her hand hasn't left Genevieve's just yet.[break][break]

"I'm not sure, um, if you'd like to stick together...I was thinking I might look at some of the exhibits," she says, her gaze flickering over to the Hall of Geology. The inclusion of the Galarian crown on display has caught her eye— is it a bad idea to check it out, when Remiel Calcifet is likely to be nearby? Yes.[break][break]

Is she just full of bad ideas lately, though? Also yes.

The redhead's exclamations of encouragement were amusing at first, but the more she made absurd puns, the more Yumi felt her tolerance of it all running dangerously low. Thankfully, she had trained herself to maintain her composure for photoshoots, and the pictures came out wonderful despite her growing annoyance.[break][break]

At least the stranger had taken enough decent shots for Yumi's Instagram account. She was already debating how to edit them when the woman answered her question.[break][break]

"Oh, hmm," was all she had to say in response.[break][break]

Deciding she'd had enough of the crown exhibit, Yumi returned her phone to her clutch.[break][break]

"I've done a few photoshoots in the past, and of course I take photos for social media, but no, I'm not a model," she replied, surprised that the red-haired woman had not already excused herself to leave. "I work in marketing in the hotel industry."[break][break]

Yumi wasn't sure why she bothered mentioning her actual career, but she supposed she had nothing better to do.

[attr="class","star2"] Turning out of their dance back to walk the floor, through the exhibits specially presented, hazel found himself even more pleased to have attended that night than he was beforehand. Arm twined through Hugo’s, they made their way through the corridor toward the Meteno exhibit and he leaned comfortably against his husband’s shoulder, head tilted to the side.[break][break]

In truth, he would’ve been contented to slip away now. To return home, happy and further satisfied by however the rest of the night unfolded between the two of them. But at the same time—he was still curious.[break][break]

“How can I not?” he trilled back, smile curling on his lips as he looked over at his husband before his eyes drifted back toward a passing exhibit.[break][break]

As they made their way to the meteno exhibit, his attention caught on the exhibit put forward by those running Nautical. “You know, darling, we’ve not tried a diving expedition. Should we put that on the docket for the future?”[break][break]

Some of the more ancient pieces were of particular interest to the archivist. Fragments that he’d love nothing more than to piece back together and study the meaning of. “Perhaps you’d be able to find something to abscond with of your own?”[break][break]

Asked lightly as he leaned up on his toes to press a brief, coddling kiss against Hugo’s jawline.

Eyes as blue as the seas to which Martín del Mar belongs. Eyes he could get lost in.

Sneaking over to the bar is a cinch, grabbing Lottie and herself a drink each is much easier when there's no one competing for mere tea. And as she takes small sips of her own drink, she can't help but admire the beautiful dresses on the dance floor that are on display. Every now and then, she manages to pick out the colours of a certain Locke Jamison and John Sullivan, but she'll leave them to their little dance until they've had their fill of fun.[break][break]

"Cmon Sithy! Miss Assistant? Let's go check out the exhibits." She hums, allowing Reiner to wrap his tail around her arm and start escorting them towards the Meteno exhibit. Despite the near-extinction event that the region had just faced, it seemed like Hoenn had pulled through and came out even stronger than before - Perhaps, even messier than before, now that they had introduced new powers to the region that hadn't existed before.[break][break]

Would this paint a bigger target on their backs? Or would it allow them to better prepare themselves for the next threat looming on the horizon? The gleam of the crystals within the case snatch her attention, swamping her mind with many new thoughts that she's never quite considered. But one question quickly makes itself clear, resurfacing from the back of her mind like Chu-e Choi rising from his bed in the morning.[break][break]

This takes place after the events of Heart Full of Holes and SYZYGY, in that order.

Caleb made his way over to the bar after his bizarre conversation with Zev Harcourt and Neffatari Nzingha, still in disbelief that his brother actually seemed to have a girlfriend in Hoenn. Perhaps over dinner there would be an opportunity to get to know the woman better. While there, he ordered new drinks for himself and @rosie, waiting patiently for her to emerge from the crowd. Many people seemed to be coming and going from the various museum exhibits.[break][break]
When Rosie did finally appear, Caleb was pleasantly surprised to see both Umi and Rosie's Sylveon - Bonnie - walking dutifully on either side of the pink-haired woman, like two adorable sentinels, wagging their tails and looking quite pleased with themselves. "A full escort," he grinned, amused. "Here, I got you a negroni sbagliato," he handed over the bright red drink to his date. "The bartender recommended it."[break][break]
When she asked about the museum exhibits, Caleb realized that he knew the name Nautica. He'd met the founder, after all. Caleb had been meaning to visit angelo vestri, get to know him better. "The Nautica exhibit sounds interesting," he admitted. "But I'm happy to accompany you to the Meteno one first." He paused, then took her free hand in his. Thinking of their earlier kiss, however brief, Caleb felt a surge of satisfaction, and he smiled affectionately at Rosie. "Lead me wherever you'd like to go. Afterwards, we can have dinner."

"Beats me!" The masked youth said with a laugh, shrugging his shoulders as he grinned at the much shorter man. "Masquerades are a lil' on the fancy side, so this is all new for me."

He had to agree with Locke's sentiment though; it really wasn't special.

"Just a fancy party for fancy folk at the end o' the day, innit?" He said with a snicker, pulling the courier closer for a flourish and a spin. "But hey, whatever makes Hoenn a lil' more fun. First time in a couple o'years since I got to stretch my legs."

He rolled his eyes, a smile on his lips. Last time he had enjoyed a nice dance had been when he met Andy Blackadder. Good times.

"Ya ever feel like yer too caught up in yer work?" He asked after a moment as the music began winding down, the waltz slowly becoming a gentle sway. "I think Hoenn has ruined me; I haven't done anything just to have fun in almost a year."

Even the Masquerade; he was there to keep Eris Halla out of trouble and to make sure nothing like in the Star Soiree occurred.

"Well, other than this dance, I guess." That counted, right? He wasn't a boring, no nonsense adult just yet.

after separating from willow atkins , and dancing with a few others, ollie finds himself back onto the dance floor. luckily, his own distractions kept him from noticing the drama between his best friend and her two suitors. if he'd noticed, perhaps he would've messed up his suit too.

Fortunately, luka chêne would be mistaken in assuming Remiel would visit his own exhibit. He'd seen the crown since he'd been a child, after all. Furthermore, he trusted the premium ANVIL security guards and Royal Secret Service that looked after it. It gave him the freedom to go explore the other exhibits, and perhaps mingle a bit despite himself.

So, parting from the balcony he'd been staring at the stars from, the masked prince makes his way to the PRIMAL CRYSTAL EXHIBIT. His Shedinja follows dutifully behind as they navigate the museum. Eventually, they reach it.

Standing before the large crystal, he takes a sip of his cocktail and peers inside, losing himself in its beauty.

CRYSTALLINE SPLENDOURS

The ballroom significantly empties out as the exhibitions open, drawing interest from many of the attendees. While some examine the remnants of METENO and the Primal Crystals, others explore reminders of the ravaged region of Galar, and still others reminisce over the mysteries that exist in a very much present Sea!Hoenn.[break][break]

In the TERASTAL EXHIBIT, Gym Leader Josh Devlin showcases his expertise in Terastallization by claiming the first victory of the night. His crystalline TYRANTRUM defeats Elisabeth Fiorelli's FROSMOTH with a ferocious HEAD SMASH, shattering the amethystine Pokémon as the demo comes to an end.[break][break]

Meanwhile in the ballroom, a mysterious golden-eyed assistant leaves Locke Jamison's side to dance with velda glaus's Ditto at the centre of the ballroom, content to enjoy one another's company in silence. A drunk john nelson sways unsteadily near the bar, helped along by @girard just as a bell chimes to acknowledge the fortuitous start of the dining hour.[break][break]

After so much activity, a brief respite may be exactly what many attendees desire most.

DINING IN THE INSECTARIUM

INSECTARIUM[break]DINING

Moonlight glimmers through the glass panels of the Insectarium's biome as it opens up for dining, the hushed starlight lending a more intimate and romantic air to its indoor environment. Elegant white dining tables have been arranged here, their sizes varying from as private as a table for two, to round tables that invite a circle of confidantes, to longer banquet tables that allow for larger gatherings.[break][break]

From this vantage point, the Insectarium's blooming flora is fully visible, particularly the butterfly gardens rife with Butterfree, Beautifly, Masquerain, and Vivillon, courtesy of John Sullivan and the (Unofficial) Bug Catcher Association. Across from here, a much smaller dance floor lit by the Volbeat and Illumise has been set up beneath an overhang of wisteria, a string quartet providing softer music than that which occupied the ballroom prior.[break][break]

Beyond this, a bridge crosses over a small stream of ornamental Magikarp, leading further into the lush environs with sprawling paths that find attendees rare solace within canopied alcoves -- whether they be seeking a rendezvous, or merely clandestine conversation.

Yes! You're free to join this event at any point of its duration![break][break]

2) Was round two the only dancing part of the event?[break]
No -- the ballroom will remain open for the rest of the event. You can ignore everything else that opens up and just stay here and dance if you like![break][break]

3) Am I required to join the dining in the Insectarium?[break]
Nope! It's entirely optional. You can stay in the exhibits or the ballroom if you like.[break][break]

4) How long will the Exhibits be open (Including the Terastal Exhibit)?[break]
For the rest of the event! So don't feel rushed to check everything out if you're currently having fun.[break][break]

5) I can't seem to find a dance partner![break]
We recommend asking on Discord if anyone is looking to pair up, or alternatively, indicating in your TLDRs that you are open to being danced with! You can of course also simply ask IC and see what response you get.[break][break]

6) Can I recognize other masked people IC? I'm not sure how to interact.[break]
The best method is always to ask the writer of the character how noticeable they want to be! However, we strongly encourage indicating in your TLDRs or in your posts themselves how recognizable you want your character to be.[break][break]

7) What happens if we don't fulfill all the prompts?[break]
The event will continue as usual; it will simply affect the types of rewards you earn at the end of the round. That's literally all they're for, and to help guide things along![break][break]

[attr="class","thadmain"]Cyg all but dragged her happy ass over to the Place Where the Eating Happened. She had one sober brain cell that went wait, we’re eating around bugs? That seems questionable to me--

--but the rest of her was drunk and tired and hungry and her feet were fucking sore from being slammed in these shoes and dancing for the last… unknowable length of fucking hours.

“Food food food food food--,” her voice is low and husky with use and alcohol. She barely remembers she’s wearing a dress and manages to just catch herself before she sits, smoothing the fabric over her ass and pinching her knees together like a good little socialite.

An array of forks and dishes are set at each table and Cyg wonders if she should try and remember which was for salad, which was for entrees, et cetera et cetera, before she tosses the rising anxiety aside, bowled over by hunger and indifference. Performativity is shallow, as are so many things. Innocence is nothing but a ceremony-- just like shrimp forks.

“I always get worried when they say ‘roasted vegetables because, like, the selection is so wide. I hope it's carrots and zucchini and not something fancy like… like a parsnip.” She sets an elbow on the table and rests her chin in her palm before she remembers etiquette. “I do like me some steak though.”

A flash of something catches her eye, in the way an exhausted person’s vision goes hazy and they stare off into space for far too long. High up on one of the trees-- Cyg remembers Elisabeth Fiorelli busily cultivating sprouts, not too long ago-- a little green wedge begins to glow, and glow, and glow. The edges of the yellow light go fuzzy and then it brightens, and dissipates, and a new Butterfree unfurls his wings for the first time, in something beautiful and hidden.

“Huh. I never realized it but the glow of evolution is kind of, like, a modesty filter. You ever wonder why that is? What Ito levels of body horror are happening under that soft light?”
