he is quick to go on the defensive. an arm stretches outward, keeping a disguised kyle safe from their unknown threat. through the tight shape of his mask's eyes, noah frantically searches for a culprit where there is none. [break][break]

he wonders if the trainer (robin coello) who had waved at him knew anything, including the man beside her (silverio delfino). after all, suspicion is tough to shed when the mind is addled with panic and lethean liquors.[break][break]

There is nothing more eerie than the absence of her own ghosts, Vespa would soon come to notice - as the Misdreavus disappears with a quizzical look in her eyes, there is no answer that the young one could offer in response. There is nothing but a vacant feeling of ... disparate positions, of something larger at play that is extraordinarily compelling in the grand scheme of it all. She doesn't even notice that time seems to freeze - much more interested in the way the playful Ghost types turn stoic in face of anguish, neither celebrating nor mourning the fear that spreads. Maybe this is planned. Maybe ... "I'll go check out those rooms," she immediately says to Cassandra Kubrick, Thea Naito and DESIREE BLOOMS as the doors open, not quite rushing forward, but still moving with the surge that goes exploring. Her eyes keep being on the Ghost Pokémon, perhaps in a sense of loss as she isn't able to hear her own partner's cackling anymore.[break]

Though she has no clue of the faint magnetic energy that is emitted by the strange rocks, she still glances over them, trying to remember anything her parents could have told her about places ... like ... Oh, wasn't there a time her mother mentioned something about magnetic fields that exist in other places? Though neither of the Baskerville family harbour much interest in Electric types, sometimes, they do appear in dual types they favour, and though she cannot say for certain ... Huh?[break]

Is she a Baskerville? Why does that name sound ... both familiar, and not at all? Her head starts to feel dizzy as she locks eyes with a Gengar, furrowing her eyebrows at it as she stares, and stares, and stares, as if it would reveal any answer at all.

TL;DR

- Vespa wears a Wooper mask and a mintgreen dress, and she is no longer accompanied by her partner Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus who wears a Grookey mask. Apparently called 'Woo'.[break]

self-preservation had always been one of the traits kyle was most proud of. it's often accompanied by embarrassing acts very few on hoenn would even consider doing, but given that none of them were practical in this situation, his mind is left processing other available options.

there had been no time to enjoy the food, and no time to talk to the person he came here with.

addled, he is left shifting his eyes around from one word on the wall to another. noah's voice grounds him back to reality, or what seemed to resemble as one.

"o-okay!"

he starts to forget small things about the person he entered the room with, but gut feeling tells him to stick close. sentiment lingers even as names and faces fade.

entering the room with noah, he is greeted by artifacts that an ordinary person wouldn't be interested in. he starts to flip through the pages on one of the journals, given that courtesy is thrown out of the window the moment they trapped visitors inside.

"you're not leaving me through all this, right?" he asks noah, his attention held by something else. he isn't sure if anything strange will happen while he's busy snooping.

As her attention flits between Chu-e's failed attempts to remove his mask and the eerie messages, there are two sides to her that begin to argue.[break][break]

She's utterly screwed. Or she's about to have the time of her life figuring what the hell is happening in this manor.[break][break]

Thankfully, Chu-e Choi's presence makes her lean towards the latter opinion.[break][break]

Paint, not blood. He confirms with a touch and a glance, though she does wonder whether touching it was really such a good idea. It puts her mind at ease for the moment, allows her the time to gather her thoughts and observe her surroundings. Down the hallways are countless rooms, each filled with rocks and notebooks for her to rifle through.[break][break]

Ah well, some might say that them being unable to remove their masks stops the duo from attempting to lick those funny rocks. Not that she particularly wishes to after learning that her actions indeed do have consequences.[break][break]

"How many pokemon do they need to fill one book...?"[break][break]

And why are all these books here? Her lips drawn thin, she tries to read through the field notes with care for any details that stand out.

The violinist doesn't comment on how fast the stranger drinks his water, though she does think to herself that he seems about as desperate as a man lost in the desert. When her own glass of champagne arrives she takes a small sip, thinking of what a shame it is that she can't toast him.

"Would you be so kind as to refill my friend's cup?" Allegra asks of the Mismagius who brought her drink before it leaves, as though she were served by Ghost-type Pokémon every day. It grants her request with ease in turn, as though it were used to acting the part of a waiter. But then, perhaps it is. "Thank you, dear."

While Lacrimosa — sitting just beside her, its tail curled up — watches the Mismagius leave, Allegra turns back to her fellow human.

"I see," she says with a brief nod. "Work does tend to be that way, no matter how glamorous it seems on the outside."

She doesn't elaborate either, instead sipping her drink again and letting the silence linger a moment — though it is soon shattered by a chilling scream. She lifts a brow, half-tempted to investigate the noise, but in these heels... No, thank you. Surely someone else will rush to take care of it. The world is far from lacking in heroically inclined people, though she herself is not counted among them. Neither, it appears, is her conversation partner. How fortunate.

"It must have been a ghost," she replies, with a half-smile. "Back to the matter at hand, I am also here to enjoy the festivities. I meant to —"

Yet what she meant to do, Allegra can't say, as she is rather suddenly — and rudely — compelled to bring her Dive Ball out. Although she attempts to resist, the surprise obvious on her face, Lacrimosa soon dissolves into light particles and the Ball seals itself.

"Well, this isn't nothing," she says, trying for a light tone, then notices the words "you are not alone" on the wall. She indicates them with a nod, muttering to herself: "Oh, per l'amor dei Pokémon mitologici, stavo scherzando sui fantasmi!"

It was a poorer joke than she realized, judging by the whispers of other attendees; according to which they are trapped here. Oh, that's just lovely. Nonetheless, she recomposes herself and says: "So much for enjoying the festivities. Shall we investigate together? Two heads are better than one, as the saying goes."

Despite her invitation Allegra is already leaving the bar, with her three-inch high heels and her glass of champagne and all, in the direction that Mismagius floated off to. She finds a door ajar and walks in without hesitation, only to see —

Unlike her, Cass is not quite as thrilled about the "faerie food" however, thinking on tales that could bind ... and indeed it seems like a spell has been cast. She's eaten one piece, and then.

A strange impulse she never ever feels, and one that is also regarded with slight horror before all of her pokémon vanish in flashes of red. All six of them, with not a single comfort left ... she immediately steps closer to Thea Naito and Vespa Baskerville, taking a deep breath to calm her feelings of disorientment, like being out in a field of unimaginable size.

"No, Vess, you won't go off on your own," she hurriedly says, following closely along her friend as she makes way towards mysterious rooms. The entire atmosphere shifts into the creepier, and having been made to recall her pokémon on her own ... her knuckles are white as her hand form fists, though there is nothing to punch. "Figured out anything?" she murmurs.

Deep breaths. She got this, even ... now.

Wonderful. Just absolutely wonderful. Screams soon filled the room, as well as panic and the strange inability to take off his mask. How convenient it would be to do so, but even as he did, it returned… without any trace or recollection of doing so himself.

“I’m… afraid I do not know the language you speak. Kalosian?” _______ stole a glance at the words. Those were not the type he desired to see at the moment. Perhaps they would be forced to play the game of the mansion itself. The kind that none of the Ghosts seemed interested in. _______ turned back to Allegra. “I’m not–”

Oh, she was already gone. At least the clack of her heels and swish of her dress made it easy to see through the ruined crowd. He stole the water from the bar top and rushed to join her. Her logic wasn’t wrong, but what did she hope them to do against incorporeal threats?

Even someone such as him was powerless against the nonphysical.

“If I may wager a guess,” _______ stepped in right behind her. Filled to the brim with research, and rocks. He went to the closest one and tentatively picked it up. His watch clacked against it forcefully. howard slayte (looks at camera). “I presume you’re asking about what this all is.”

With the rock returned to its place, he turned his interest to a splotchy notebook instead. Its cover proved no more informative.

“Feebas… Bronzor… Clefable… even a Solrock it seems,” he murmured. Quite a many pokemon– but to what end? “If I weren’t mistaken, this seems like some work in a Field to me. But why here in Hoenn? Mt. Coronet is not exactly close…”

“What say you, miss? Any chance you happen to be in the field of science?”

While Ivy abstains, he offers a lazy grin to her as well as the priest. He eyes a few ghosts with fancy cocktails but decides to simply refresh the one he'd been nursing/ He downs the last glass before happily taking another fat glass of eyeball punch. "One second, I-" he murmured about to excuse himself elsewhere to grab his much needed glass of water. But when he's about to scratch under the mask to get to his sweating cheek bone he found the mask unmoving. "Wha-..wait a second!" his words turn into a sudden hiss, no longer as easy going as the stranger he played before. "I- I think my mask is stuck in my hair." he said to Isaac Ward and Elise Calcifet before more horrible mischief apparates. [break][break]

Was it the drink? Was there something in it? "Father Ward, are you feeling alright?" he asked before looking at Ivy. "You haven't eaten or drunk anything from here yet, have you?" he asked the noble woman. Not a sign of their hosts, and the messages begging to coat the walls and paintings are unnerving. "Quite the beginning to a rather exciting night, huh?" he asked. Though there's no smile, instead a steady frown as he began puzzle over the mountain of FIELD RESEARCH and mysterious circumstances surrounding them.

Standing at the room's entrance, it suddenly occurs to Allegra that she mustn't lose her composure in such a manner. For one thing this isn't befitting, and for another the mansion doesn't lack amenities. They should all be fine until this is solved; because it will be solved. That being said... She isn't sure of how it'll be solved. These research notes might have been a place to start, if only she knew what to make out of them. Her grip on the glass tightening, she remembers to go back for the man she was talking to —

— only to hear his voice right behind her. She doesn't startle, merely half-turning and smiling at him beneath the mask. To think that her invitation was accepted even though she wasn't there to hear it… How terribly rude of her. Yet he moves past her lack of manners graciously, so Allegra merely inclines her head in silent thanks before doing the same.

"Correct," is all she says, with a sip of her champagne — thank goodness she ordered alcohol — and a small laugh. "Although I will admit to having phrased the question with far less class. Incidentally, I speak a minority language from Sinnoh."

While the man inspects a notebook, she tucks her sweet Lacrimosa's Dive Ball back into the inner folds of her gown, the flowing material artfully concealing her team's PokéBalls; a team which she can't call upon, if the Vaporeon is anything to go off of. Her manicured nails come to rest on the cover of another notebook, though it doesn't tell her much.

"I am afraid not, sir," Allegra replies, content to both be and leave him nameless. The fact that they are of like mind about the masquerade's mystery is a small comfort in the face of these new, far more unsettling mysteries. "I pursued the arts, so all this means little to me, unfortunately. Given your question, I presume you aren't familiar either?"

"Nothing groundbreaking." The admin says, peering at faded letters through the bag on his head. Frustrated, he takes the bag halfway off so that he can actually read over it. "Pretty standard research, honestly. There's a bit on magnetic fields, though."

He closes a notebook with a huff, more annoyed than terrified. It's hard to be afraid of the mansion when Cillian Quinn can wipe the entire mansion off the map with a Shadow Blast if he wished. Even with their Pokemon sealed, Cillian was the only avatar Howard had seen at the party. If he was betting on Cillian or the ghosts in a fight, he was picking Cillian every time.

"Looks a lot like notes I'd take in the field, though. Except mine are actually labeled and placed on a bookshelf."

He poured the wine directly into his mouth to accelerate his march towards inebriation, only for it to drench the bag he had just removed.

"Dammit! I just took this off!"

She can't see his face, but it's a familiar sort of slump to his strangely changed form that overtakes her superior, all his erstwhile divinity scattered like so much ash in the face of something so mundane as a bad impression made to a woman. She's seen it in a few faces turned her way, and she's sure she's worn it once or twice. It's fine, though. Isn't that part of being human?

--Well. She imagines he isn't too keen on that. Small things we sacrifice on the altar of our future selves, she supposes.

"Tch. Were you never taught manners? Rather than biting my head off, you should complement a lady on their choice of attire in these sorts of situations. A lovely choice of mask, incidentally, miss no-one."

She doesn't know why he's putting on the accent, but it doesn't dull her criticism. It's insubordination of a short, but she takes the view that matters of the heart should be dealt with directly and honestly, no matter how brutal it might be.

She raises a single eyebrow beneath her mask as the deep scarlet drips down the walls, writing a story with all but the ending torn from the pages. Typical horror movie pageantry, certainly, but that doesn't mean there isn't something sinister behind it. She's glad to see her superior is taking it seriously at least, even if she'll mourn the loss to the field of accidental comedy that is the unceremonious gang-style execution of his accent. Eevee seems a little scared, burrowing into her shoulder with a worried hiss, and so she moves to release
Typhlosion from her Poké Ball as a safety measure, the cursed Fire Mouse Pokémon's presence ordinarily a reassurance to the younger Pokémon-- but the Ball doesn't answer her input, and a breath later Eevee vanishes into her own ball involuntarily in a burst of red light. She imagines the same has happened to Banette. Hm. That's a little more disconcerting. She can imagine very few good reasons for a place like this to have a Poké Ball dampening field.

"Hm. Well, sir. It appears our host is a die-hard fan of the kinds of horror staples that were scary when I was a child. Either that, or the ghost Pokémon are actually going to try to kill us all at the behest of some unseen mastermind. Broadly disappointing, either way."

At once a little concerned and yet contemptuous of this entire situation, she sighs a little before returning Typhlosion's ball to the depths of her kimono, straightening it out a little before turning to Lulu Flint , offering the other woman a arm-- her true expression inscrutable beneath the mask, but the baneful fox's visage still blithely grinning in the face of danger, real or imagined.

"Well. Shall we take the field, so to speak, miss no-one? I'm sure our mutual friend can take care of himself, but if there is real danger behind this facade, it may be wise to remain together."

Is she deliberately undermining the Beast's tragic attempts at flirtation, or simply offering her services to her allies? Her voice betrays a little amusement at the situation, at least.

attention was called away by a shift in the room. pokemon, all disappearing into their pokeballs, people trying unsuccessfully to remove masks. a wave of anxiety rushed over her as she tried her own – to no avail.[break][break]

”fuck this. should’ve been a waiver,” she cursed as she set down her drink, forgetting it. was this all truly within the abilities of ghost and dark type pokemon? or did something more powerful lurk?[break][break]

she glanced down the hall, where her brother had disappeared to, thinking to go find him, before she was offered an arm and company by Yotsukura Yotsugami. ”agreed.”[break][break]

not one to take comfort in such proximity to others, however, she moved past without taking the arm offered. ”come along then, if you want.”[break][break]

with that, she moved towards where her brother had disappeared to. however, a room with some of the boxes drew her in first, where others were thumbing through journals. she went in and picked one up.[break][break]
