The crowd roars in anticipation of the night's line up, practically frothing at the mouth to see some of Hoenn's fiercest, COOLEST specimens up close and personal! A panel of judges sit front and center of an amphitheater, flanked by dozens of rows of seating. Before them is a massive stage veiled by a curtain, with a spotlight tracing ADRIAN MALCOLM's every step. Phew, it's hot![break][break]

"Welcome one and all to Slateport's Annual Pokemon Contest! Today we're joined by our panel of judges—may they rule impartially—and an epic roster of Hoenn's greatest. Oh, and their trainers," he jeers lightly, earning a few tickled ribs from the crowd and easing their restlessness.[break][break]

The sudden emergence of a Gyarados earned a few expressions of awe as its deep crimson scales glinted in the spotlight as it approached the stage. "Joining me today on stage is Furor, my battle-tested, stalwart companion." And he bore the scars to show it; a grizzled disposition allowed it to carry a frightful presence, from the scars built up around its neck, to the gnarly teeth adorning its gaping maw. "He's going to help us see how our contestants measure up. So without further delay, why don't we get a look at our candidates, Furor?" The beast's tail swipes at the curtains at their hind, knocking them aside in a single flourish (talk about MOXIE) while revealing a lineup of trainers. "Let's give it up for one of HOENN's HEROES..." He flourished a hand.[break][break]

He lists off their names in order of appearance, and as they're called forward, they're given a moment to strut their stuff.

Acting was difficult for Kaida, the kind of personality needed to pretend to have the energy and loudness of multiple people simply didn't exist in her...in a way, she supposed nobody was here to see her, but Muspel. So she let Muspel lead.

Muspel Blazed as the curtains were pulled back, radiating heat that the closer of the audience might even be able to feel as the contestants were revealed, stepping forward and cheerfully waving her tail as attention fell on her. Cool was a subjective term, but there was no doubting the inherent coolness of a Charizard, with its draconic appearance, wings, and flaming tail, Kaida thought she was one of her best partners.

Despite the Charizard's lack of ruggedness like Furor, she too possessed scars from previous battles, including one that likely everyone in the region knew about. The Three Day War left the Charizard with flickers of evidence of her battles, discolored scales from blasted water, scars lining her wings from desperate flight, all marks the Charizard wore with pride. She let out a traditional roar, and Kaida stepped forward to pat the Pokemon's shoulder.

"This is Muspel, pne of my partners, we'll show why she is the best choice." It was her partner, there was no chance in Kaida's mind that she didn't deserve recognition.

Lyssa is not a born performer, all her knack for performance comes from numerous trials and errors. Lyssa couldn't say that her trade is perfect and fool-proof but to captivate an audience - Lyssa needs to do a big entrance to wow the audience. The star for today is not Lyssa but it is Horus, Lyssa stares at her Pokeball where Horus the Silglyph waiting patiently. [break][break]

Albeit her own pokemon lack any scar and losing in size department - Lyssa knows that her Silglyph has his own edge on being cool. Lyssa throws her Pokeball really low making it looks like she was playing bowling but it didn't fail to launch a moderately sized avian creature out of the Pokeball and take no time to raise up and seize the sky. The guardian of the Ancient City displays all of his glory to all of the audience. The cries from Siglyph resonates throughout the stadium boosting the divine aura of Horus. Sigilyph descend slowly and stay afloat beside her trainer while his eyes stay alerted to his surrounding, like how a guard would do. [break][break]

Lyssa stands tall right next to Horus and starts to present her pokemon. "This is my partner for today, Horus. He is a Sigilyph that is known by the guardian of the Ancient City. While he may not have a battle scar like the previous pokemon but I will show you that he is as cool as them or even cooler than them" Lyssa announced boldly with a smirk. Despite the bold claim, Lyssa put a lot of trust in her pokemon. She genuinely believes that Horus is much cooler than anyone else here.

there was something contradictory when it's the missions that pit kyle against other humans that deliver his manectric scars and nicks as opposed to the ones where they face the unknown and the supernatural.

perhaps it's experience that leaves them to be too careful against forces that are too much for them, or that kyle finds people more dangerous than legends. regardless, his manectric has survived life threatening trials time and time again, and it shows it in her threatening gait and rugged figure.

"ladies and gentlemen, tana!"

kyle throws his hand towards the manectric. sparks from the static collected in its fur start to fly like sparklers as the pokemon flexes for the crowd. she eventually raises her head up, howling to keep attention on her. one can say there's weight in the voice of the battle-hardened manectric.

"a mainstay of my team and a reliable rock under times of duress. today's the only day you can see her doing this, folks! unless it's the battlefield, then she's more than ready to go."

the manectric ends her song and follows up the introduction with a bark that echoes throughout the contest hall. she raises up her chin and puffs her chest as she poses for everyone to see.

there's a certain smugness in her aura that just cannot wait to show off more.

In his hand, he catches the falling sphere. All of it is perfectly synchronized. All of it seems smooth and natural. All of it goes just as practiced. Even their entrance has been rehearsed, because of course it has, because first impressions matter.

The Greninja maintains its pose while staring directly at the audience with its vigilant scarlet gaze, as if ready to jump at them at any given moment. Ready to suddenly vanish out of sight. Ready to act.

Its dark blue skin seems to almost shimmer under the lights – pristine and unmarked by any battle scars. Yet, the lack of signs of battle doesn’t make the pokémon any less keen; there’s an alertness to its gaze, to its movement, to the way its every muscle is tensed. As if prepared for anything. A PROTEAN pokémon that is ever adaptable and versatile in its ways.

”If you’re looking for a show, he’s sure to give you one, so keep your eyes on him!”

On cue, in a ‘blink and you miss it’ sort of moment, the Greninja completely disappears from sight.

Only then does it once again land right where it had the first time. Graceful and swift.

Rowan watched the others introduce their Pokémon with ever mounting anxiety. Acting was second nature to Rowan in order to survive, but crafting an actual performance was another monster entirely. Others came out onto the stage with impressive displays, meanwhile he was hoping to not come off as too awkward to compete. Adrian Malcolm had convinced him to sign up against his better judgement, otherwise he would have opted to be in the crowd instead of in the limelight.

“Here goes nothing.” A deep breath and Rowan strode out onto the stage with a smile on his face, careful to curb his usual mannerisms in favor of appearing more confident. “Hello everyone. I’m here today with my Inteleon, Natasha.” On cue, the Shiny Inteleon burst onto the stage surrounded in a torrent of water, shimmering underneath the spotlight as the beads rolled off her scales. “Watch out, you never know when she’ll strike...” Natasha aimed her finger-gun towards the audience with a sly smirk stretched across her face. “...and she doesn’t miss.”

"Oh wow—it's her!"

A voice in the audience raised suddenly.

"She's actually here? OH MY GOD, I can't believe it, we are SO. LUCKY."

Never mind that all the hubbub was coming from just one person, an innocuous-looking teenage girl in a flannel shirt. Whispers spread like static wherever she passed.

"Who is she?! I missed it!"

"Is she famous? I didn't know!"

"THERE SHE IS!"

Drawn in by the expertly-woven web of mob psychology, the women in the front row screamed, caught up in the excitement, as a lean, shaggy-haired Pokemon strolled towards the audience. Posture relaxed, Dewott sat on the edge of the stage with one leg tucked beneath her, the other dangling casually.

The otter's muzzle wrinkled, revealing a row of needle-sharp teeth.

She smirked.

"SIGN MY JACKET!" Chryssa called, balling up her flannel and hurling it at the Dewott on stage. Barely glancing up, the otter snatched it out of the air with one hand. A scalchop appeared like a switchblade in the other before there was a ripping sound and the coat sailed back into the front row, billowing in the air for a moment to reveal the name sliced into the fabric there.

DREW

Women screamed, enamored, and grabbed for tattered pieces of flannel. "DREEEEEW!" Chryssa shrieked girlishly through cupped hands, feeding into the frenzy. Once she had them worked up enough, the girl took to the stage alongside her Pokemon.

"You saw her yourself, ladies and gentlemen. This is Drew, I'm Chryssa, and we'll be seeing you after the show."

Tying a long scrap of red plaid around one wrist, Drew vaulted into the first row, giving high-fives, kissing audience members, and returning with a ballcap perched lazily between her ears that said 'Women Love Me, Fish Fear Me.'

The majority of the other contestants were large and impressive. Some wore their hard-earned victories as scars: badges of honor rather than shame. So in order to start out with a strong impression, Luka knew she and her Shinx would have to go big.[break][break]

From behind the proscenium, a crackle of lighting surged and jolted forwards.[break][break]

Suddenly, the lights onstage went out.[break][break]

Murmurs of surprise and confusion rose from the audience. What had happened? Was it an outage, or part of the performance?[break][break]

The answer was made clear before anyone had a chance to panic. Though a power surge had knocked out the stage lights, there was something shining in the darkness. A glowing star flickered in the air, dangling as if on a string. Gradually that pinprick of light spread, illuminating a pair of piercing eyes. And slowly, the entire form of Luka's Shinx came to light.[break][break]

The electricity in the cub's fur made his entire body glow as he strode forwards onstage; a striking appearance despite his small stature. He lifted his head and let out a loud cry, letting loose a few sparks of electricity that glittered in the darkness.[break][break]

A split second later, the lights flashed on once again. Shinx was still standing there, now accompanied by his trainer, who had emerged onstage under the cover of darkness. Luka was beaming, flushed with both elation and nerves, and stood behind her Pokemon to give him a proper introduction.[break][break]

"Helloooooo Slateport! This is Lemon!" she called, while her Shinx proudly puffed his chest. "He may be small, but don't underestimate him! His electrifying performance will leave you at the edge of your seats!"

Maverick wasn’t the type of person to do these things. What was it called? Contest? Pfft. He saw little point in dressing up a pokemon and dancing about like a crazed buffoon to impress a panel of supposed elite judges and entertainment hungry audience. Hoenn was under attack by what seemed like almost on the daily. Contest didn’t provide any help to keeping it safe. Yet for some reason, many of Hoennians loved and craved these things. Was it for the distraction from the inedible dooms day that will soon come crashing down upon them?

Regardless, the burnt scarred man found himself signing up for this ‘cool’ contest theme by both force and recommendation. But while others found ways to make their pokemon appear cooler than they were, the trainer found no need to fake such status. He muffled a few chuckled while awaiting his turn in the spot light, finding it funny that scars apparently made their pokemon cooler yet he himself was littered in burntt scars from head to toe and he was not cool. If they wanted scars, he could strip and show them true scars. Nevertheless, that wasn’t the point he assumed and readied himself and his creature to make their first appearance.

As soon as the spot light fell upon his frame, Mandibuzz spread her wings behind her master. Before them, a scarred trainer dressed in a mostly black suit stood with an aloof expression and what looked like he possessed wings himself. His eyes remained closed, arms crossed over his chest letting the audience guess what was about to happen. A squawk resound off behind him shortly after. Clearly, he wasn’t a bird.

Maverick’s eyes opened, rich crimson colored orbs flickered over the crowd as his Mandibuzz thrusted her wings hard to send her body into the air. Another squawk erupted from her as she took flight, soaring carelessly above the audiences head in hopes to grab their attention while preforming a typical buzzard flight pattern like she was searching for a food source. Her hopes was to give the audience a mix of emotions ranging from terror to awe. The man let his bird do what she did best. After all, it was all about the pokemon wasn’t it.

But after a few minutes of her circling in an sporadic pattern, a sharp whistle rang out from her master with a pinch of his bottom lip. This got the avian’s attention, forcing her to return to the stage. While shifting her flight towards her master, she swooped down swiftly as if she was about to snatch a prey from the crowd of humans. Claws opened and wings fluttered out all in real life scenario. Of course missing, lifting herself last minute only to land gracefully before her master. The dark and flying type turned her head from the crowd, beak high in the air as if she was disgusted with them and too proud to look at them. Maverick muffled a chuckle, keeping his cold demeanor.

Rather than a dimming of lights, the contest hall is suddenly filled with hues of draconic blue and fiery orange-red. This is followed promptly by a chorus of proud fanfare as the spotlights swerve upward, pointing themselves towards a demonic-like silhouette standing on one of the rafters high above.[break][break]

A dragon's raspy, frightening roar fills the air and brings the buzzing of the horns to a sharp stop.[break][break]

"Now presenting: Her Royal Highness, Terror of the Skies and Sand, Suzerain of the Potbottom Desert, and descendant of Lyba the Fang, the esteemed DAMKINA of Calcifet Palace!"[break][break]

A different chorus than the one before begins to play as the silhouette above takes a dive, entering the light to reveal the appearance of a SCARRED Garchomp. Sitting upon the saddle harnessed to her back, and garbed in royal leather armor, Remiel Calcifet grips her fin with one hand while the other grips a leather loop. Just as the crowd below expects a crash landing, however, they sharply pull upwards.[break][break]

What follows is an awe-inspiring series of tight flight maneuvers within the enclosed space. Aerial acrobatics (AERIAL ACE) dazzle the eyes of the onlookers below as Damkina unleashes another powerful roar, taking sharp turns, nosedives, and skyrockets. When she aims her sight on the stage below, however, she tucks wings to her sides and takes the form of a rocket.[break][break]

This coincides perfectly with the end of the riveting song being played live in the auditorium. Moments before she crashes into the stage like a meteor, the Garchomp unfurls her wings and uses them to rapidly slow her ascent. Remiel steers her movement into a forward-flip and a twist in mid-air. The draconic queen lands with a slash of her METAL CLAWS, unleashing a third and final roar for the introduction.[break][break]

Sliding off her back with ease, Remiel is careful not to snag the SWORD HOLSTERED TO HIS HIP as he steps forward. "Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Remiel Calcifet ," He states, standing with straight posture before he issues the cheering audience a polite bow.[break][break]

"Today, Damkina and I intend to show you the true might of Dragon-types."[break][break]

Behind him, Damkina spreads her impressive wingspan and flaps. And, as Remiel straightens in posture once more, it almost appears as if he has dragon wings himself from the audiences point-of-view.[break][break]

"Bra-vah," Chryssa called after Rowan Wrynn 's performance, leering at the perfectly nice young man from behind her hand like a condescending villainess. "But your basketball lizard won't be able to top our top-notch topping. That's what it's called when you add something fantastic on top of something frumpy."

She spun around, forgetting for a moment this was a Cool Contest and not a twirling competition where people tried to show off how good they were at smugly spinning in a circle. "Isn't language innovation amazing?"

Drew came pelting past her, water coalescing on her whiskers as she bunched her hind legs and vaulted into the air. A ball of water formed between the otter's paws as she somersaulted mid-leap, uncurling in time to adamantly dunk the watery basketball through an imaginary hoop. Twisting midair, the otter lashed out with a back paw to destroy it, sending a spinning blade of air carving from the impact. It scythed dangerously close above the heads of the audience before it hit the back wall and dissipated in a rush of wind, a cool breeze that ruffled fur, hair, and unchecked egos alike.

The Dewott landed, brushing droplets of water off her shoulders and sauntering back into the lineup.

Kaida and Muspel started off slow, like they would a battle. Nobody caught anything by rushing into it, especially hearts, at least she believed. She didn't have the patience to normally capture hearts, but in a contest, Kaida wouldn't lose without a fight.

Her Charizard took off into air, looking for all the world trapped under the ceiling, wings beating furiously. An ominous blue glow came upon her scales before she plummeting like a rock, all wings and glowing scales as she twisted and turned in mid-air, the light coming off of her spiraling and clashing brilliantly against her orange scales...

...and then the Charizard landed on her feet, snorting out a puff of smoke as the glow started to dissipate. She was pumped.

TLDR: Kaida is here! Muspel uses Dragon Dance!

Remiel has to remind himself why he's here for a moment. Oh, right: his PR manager had stated it was in his best interest to improve his popularity with Hoennian women with a certain age bracket. And, of course, there was Damkina herself to take into consideration as well.[break][break]

Though his black Tyrantrum boasted a unique appearance, grandiose size, and fearsome presence that would have fit quite nicely to this contest, Blackjaw did not have the insatiable flame for competition that Damkina carried in her heart. She had just as much to offer as the big brute, too. It just wasn't immediately obvious.[break][break]

Having rehearsed seven performances with her prior, the Galarian prince is determined to win this for them, and grant the powerful Garchomp the fame and recognition she deserves. So he steps forward next, drawing his silver blade and pointing it forward towards the crowd, then watching as Damkina takes that signal to sprint past him and take a giant leap into full flight.[break][break]

Those sitting in the front seats gasp as the dragoness soars only feet above them. Their reaction fills her with pride, and she screeches in response as she ascends higher into the auditorium. "Ladies and gentlemen," Remiel addresses the crowd, his Galarian accent abundantly present. "What you're about to see is a reenactment: a clash such as her ancestors had with mine."[break][break]

The Garchomp doubles back, pulling a sharp u-turn as she shoots for the black-haired prince. He shifts into a defensive stance with his blade. "Don't try this at home... or in the wild, for that matter."[break][break]

Everyone holds their breath as the dragon draws nearer, then release it when a series of METAL CLAW clashes with the steel of the royal's blade, showering the stage with sparks before they end in pose.[break][break]
