Peeling first one latex glove, then the other, from his hands, Henry tosses them derisively into the underbrush. Straightening his jacket and adjusting his glasses, he frowns slightly as he looks down at his hands, pale blue vitreous fluid staining his right along one thumb.

Frowning, he elects to slide the offending hand into one pocket, slipping out of the narrow crevasse and abandoning all traces of his work behind him - only to spy a sudden congregation of Absol further down the slope. His eyes widen as he takes in the sheer profusion of pokemon, and he reflexively looks about as though a catastrophic rock slide is liable to occur at any given moment.

The pokémon in question is a notorious harbinger of disaster, and while Henry, despite all his clinical professionalism, cannot quite shake the frisson of fear that such a collection of the pokemon elicits, he likewise cannot overlook the opportunity presented him, lobbing a pokeball with his unmarred hand toward the assembly, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

It took more time than he'd intended to make his weekly run on Mt. Chimney. Working his way down the jagged pass he was half-shocked to find the fleeting gathering of Absol.

Quickly shaking off what he thought was an inexplicable gathering of that other canine pokémon species with white bodies and a funny looking heads (silvally).

Once he realized what he was looking at he shook off the thoughts of bad omens.

Being Cinabarian, his go-to thoughts of natural disasters went more in the styling of an overactive volcano, which was fitting considering the Jagged Pass connected the Fiery Path to Mt Chimney to the rest of Hoenn.

Even across the main path, it could not be avoided. The sea of black and white, a collective of beings known for being an omen of that which leaves behind numerous corpses in its wake, seemed to undulate as if it were a tsunami. Meanwhile, the young woman, whose presence had always spelled inevitable death for the gathering of people she ended up finding her way to couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.

After all, beings that foreboded disaster were undeniably different from beings that brought disaster around them like a plague.

Yet, she couldn't say she didn't feel some sort of empathy towards them. So, Elaine simply and lazily tossed a Pokeball.

Zev crouches on a ledge high above his quarry, a Rocket executive who has been talking too much of late, and to the wrong people. It's too early to eliminate her, though. Zev knows the price of acting too rashly, without enough information and proper preparation. So he watches her through binoculars as she speaks with an unfamiliar man, reading her lips, mentally noting her body language and the details of his appearance.

A sudden noise draws Zev's attention away from his prey. Looking to his left, he spies an Absol as it trots into view on the very same ledge. Shit, he thinks as the folklore surrounding the Pokémon surfaces in his mind. Though Zev considers himself a skeptic, the last thing he wants is for AN ILL-TIMED LANDSLIDE to ruin his day.

Two more Absol join the first. Time to move. But even as he gathers his equipment for a hasty retreat, Zev unclips an empty Pokéball from his belt and lobs it at the nearest Absol. Might as well try to nab one for himself.

retreat is a tenuous prospect, with how these woods wait beneath the mountain, how they tighten and broaden around him, like the syncopation of an old heart. history echoes.

great plumes of dust and ash rage against the skyline of mt. chimney as if the region is ready to swallow its people's efforts whole. whisper down decay and soot like the molten streak of a comet's tail.

he doesn't quite crest the peak when above him; absol crown the rim of each cliff, like a tempest that crowds thick and slate and harrowing in the distance.

Unfortunately, Hoenn was in the middle of crisis after crisis and it didn't bode well for the Absol population. He felt a little bad for them. Though gathered together, unlike other swarms, they didn't seem happy about it. It seemed more like they were conferring more about their omens. Or maybe Absol just had naturally sad looking faces. Regardless, they were everywhere on these rocks.

Considering the climate in Hoenn, it felt like he was two seconds away form something terrible like surfing tidal waves.

Well, he'd survive somehow right? He had up until now. With that in mind, he began climbing over, trying to spot an Absol that didn't look TOO depressed.

Evangeline the STARMIE by his side, Barnaby had already caught several Fire-type Pokémon on his jaunt through the Fiery Path, which he had now taken several times in the past few months. Today, however, found him going so far as to meet its end - where it ran into the rockier Jagged Pass. He was about ready to head back, but still had enough stamina to continue his hunt for a little while longer. He decided to press forward.

Instead of more Fire-types, however, his venture into Jagged Pass produced a distinctly different Pokémon

Flashes of white passed between the many crags and boulders lining the trailway. Glimpses of some sort of creature - no, creatures - flitting just out of eyesight, stalking him as he walked. Barnaby retrieved a Poké Ball from his coat, readying it in case of an attack. For now, whatever lurked in the shadows did not deign to reveal themselves.

Then, just as he'd resigned that they'd stay hidden, he reached a bend in the trail when a cliffside jutted up. There, along the ridgeline, stood about a dozen or more Pokémon leering down at him from above.

ABSOL. Portents of doom and destruction. Ill-omens to those they presented themselves to, said to herald coming disasters like floods or volcanic eruptions. Briefly, Barnaby's gaze shifted to Mt. Chimney - which appeared quiet - before returning to the congregation before him.

What could this mean?

there's going to be some kind of hurricane, or an earthquake, or a tornado, or the second coming of arceus for all she knows, with all of these disaster pokemon gathered here. oh the humanity. oh, the tragedy. [break][break]

sadly, that won't stop her from trying to snag one of these herself. though they gather and they're running, she can't quite say she's confident in her aim, either. narrowing her eye, she pulls out a pokeball from her belt, and aimlessly throws it into the distance. with her fingers crossed. [break][break]

Absol were known as harbingers of disaster. The more superstitious were quick to blame them for whatever misfortune followed in their wake. Whether it be a hurricane, or any other sort of natural disaster.

In truth, Absol's horn allowed them to sense such events. Their intentions of visiting human settlements was to warn them of the impending danger. Sadly, the foolishness of the humans drove these great Pokemon to isolation. The coming of disaster was all too familiar to Thomas. He didn't know what it was the Absol sensed in specific, but something ugly was going to happen.

Thomas chucked a Pokeball towards the pack of Absol, hoping to obtain one of his own.

So many Absol roaming about today, Davina knew that couldn't be a good sign. She sighed. Living in Hoenn was like trying to build a house next to a tornado: disastrous. And she wasn't about to be the idiot who tried that.

Catch one of these Absol and she'd know when to get the fuck out of dodge.

She tossed a Poke Ball and hoped for the best.

He had been at Mt. Chimney my coincidence: completing a job, nothing particularly interesting. But, just as Tam is about to leave and return to Slateport City, it’s the sight of an Absol that leads him to stay… and then another… and another.

For the most part, Absol tend to be solitary, and them gathering rarely means anything good, especially considering their ability to predict disasters.

What’s going on?

Tam looks up towards the volcano’s crater, thoughts of eruptions like that of last year filling his mind, but the day is calm. It can’t be a storm, or meteorologists would have warned as much. Same with tornados. An earthquake, then? Those are much harder to predict, but with how prone to terrible events as Hoenn can be, it literally could be anything.

Their horns sprout over the edges of the JAGGED PASS like bladed flowers. Their mysterious gazes peer at the sky; at something the human eye can't seem to perceive. Even Cade's PASSIMIAN looks up and fails to understand. Just what is going on?

Silence falls over the canyon before too long. Heavy. Like the stillness in the air just before a STORM. A stray ABSOL saunters to a stop not too far from Cade's position. It joins its brothers and sisters in the quiet skygazing.

Taking this as the opportune moment to capture one, the one-eyed blonde produces a moon ball from his pack before casting it.

A storm was coming, and he knew it. The Pokemon were restless, the skies seemed darker than usual at all times, and Josh couldn't shake the pit that continued to form in his stomach. This wasn't the first time he had felt like this. In his long career, he had been subject to his fair share of calamity. So when a group of Absol were sighted, that was just another red flag. The problem was though, that many decided to take this penchant for calamity out on the Absol.

So the Ranger had found himself on patrol again, watching in the shadows.

Whatever hurricane may come, he just hoped they were able to prepare.
