THE ROAD WELL TRAVELED

THE MINEFIELDS OF EGG BOMBS left racers with a decision: take the curves wide and lose track position, or cut the inside and risk a costly explosion? The decision came down primarily two factors. First, confidence in the racers' Pokémon. Competitors with a lack of confidence in their mount's ability to weave around mines, including the third-place Toshiaki Macallan , directed their Pokémon toward the outside of the track. Second, the need to preserve position. Some competitors, such as Julia Davis , felt preserving position was more important than taking a nominal shortcut. [break][break]

BOTH APPROACHES WERE VIABLE; Toshiaki Macallan 's caution let him and his HISUIAN ARCANINE hold onto 3rd position, though MATIAS SILPH and his DODRIO and Raziel Beckett and his METAGROSS took advantage of their daring feats of agility and bravery. Weaving and levitating around the mines and fiercely challenging him for third position as they crossed the starting arch.[break][break]

THERE WERE BATTLES TO BE HAD at the back of the pack, too! An intense battle for 11th position raged: Matt Vice , kyle lopez , and nicodemus unken rode alongside one another, their ARCANINE and GOGOAT neck and neck as they slid wide around the minefield. Eva Morales and her RAPIDASH were still recovering from their tumble, but it was still early! With boost laps starting in seconds, it was still anyone's race. [break][break]

DO YOU MINE?

OTHERS WERE MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE, not afraid to risk a costly explosion to get a leg up on the field. Exhibit one was Josh Devlin and his MANECTRIC, his eyes on Julia Davis and her DODRIO while his Pokémon weaved around the EGG BOMBs. The vibration from the electric-type's heavy footfalls set one of them off as he thrust away from it, narrowly avoiding disaster and finding themselves in a fierce battle for 9th position. Julia's decision to weave her Flying-type to the outside of the track, while the correct one, allowed a lot of more aggressive Pokémon to pass her.[break][break]

AT THE FRONT OF THE PACK, Gwyar Wledig and his RAPIDASH dodged the mines with ease, the psychic equine's SMART STRIKE-fueled steps deliberate and precise. It left the two with a substantial solo lead. Or it would have, had Isaac Merlo and his TAUROS not brute-forced their way through the entire minefield first! Every single EGG BOMB in his path exploded, leaving only a few for the rest of the field to have to worry about on later laps! The psychic shield fueled by his ZEN BEADBUTT kept the two safe, and ultimately, not losing one bit of speed. The last mine even exploded behind him, giving the two a tremendous boost of speed equivalent to a use of QUICK ATTACK...and completely legal, too! Alexei Ivanov and his RAPIDASH also played the backstretch safe, not wanting to run blind through the fields of smoke. He held onto 6th position comfortably, though Raziel Beckett and his METAGROSS were a full half-second ahead.[break][break]

THE TWO GIANT SNAKES did not have to worry about such smoke, their tall bodies able to give their riders vision over the hazardous obstacle Isaac had created! Elinor Anderson and Kaida Adachi took full advantage of it, staying in front of Josh Devlin as the two battled for 7th position down the home stretch. With almost every EGG BOMB reduced to shells, these two turns would be much easier on boost laps![break][break]

AFTER THE FIELD OF RACERS CROSSED THE LINE, things were about to get much more intense. Moves such as QUICK ATTACK, EXTREME SPEED, AGILITY, and ROCK POLISH were now legal to be used, propelling competitors that were already moving fast to speeds that tested Federation safety limits. A well-timed move could cause a competitor to surge ahead. A poorly-timed one could lead to an irrecoverable impact or even being flung out of bounds entirely. On the starting arch's banner, the racers got the prompt many of them were waiting for:[break][break]

You Got Boost Power! Speed-increasing moves, such as QUICK ATTACK, AGILITY, and EXTREME SPEED are now allowed. Speed-increasing moves will grant you ADVANTAGE for the posting round, meaning you will [ roll ] four times instead of two for that post and ignore the lower set of rolls. Please separate the first two rolls from the second two rolls with a delimiter of some kind.[break][break]

Beware! Taking tight turns and stamina-draining Obstacles at high speeds can result in dire consequences, and may impose DISADVANTAGE, meaning the lower of the two rolls will be taken. If the lower of the two rolls would still pass the Obstacle, Track Points gained for that Obstacle will be calculated based on the higher of the two rolls.[break][break]

LAP 2 - OBSTACLE 1

PROMPT: After the opening right-angle curves, but before the big jump, an intimidating-looking U-turn loomed ahead. Furthermore, the turn was built into a structure similar to a half-pipe, requiring the Pokémon to run up a small grade before making the turn at all. The ground on the turn itself was highly banked, meaning Pokémon would be heavily dependent on their momentum to carry them through the steep grade, much like a professional skateboarder.[break][break]

SPECIAL: If a Pokémon rolls beneath the Target Number by 30 or more, TP loss beyond 30 is doubled for this Obstacle.[break][break]
