Being first, he gets to watch how the others trickle in, trying to get his nerves under wrap. Finally, flowing away as he began to focus on taking notes and keeping out of trouble. He smiles and waves at Elisabeth Fiorelli and gives Cillian Quinn a respectful nod. "It's always good to see you Underboss Fiorelli." he said. She was kind of his favorite after all. Tied with THEO BECKETT . And of course jayden cross and fern delaney and- [break][break]

He tenses at the hand but managed to flash a thankful grin at the Admin. Jayden could always help relax him. Even if half the time the guy stressed him out. He gives a small greeting to Zev Harcourt as they sit next to him but otherwise busy themselves with people watching. [break][break]

He glances over at Naomi Sato , smiling at her presence and returning the small greeting to Amor Rose as well. BARNABY FINCH enters and Mint's attention is more on the Ninetails that follows. There's an initial excitement at seeing the silver fur before it dulls into a small pang of grief, and then is compartmentalized as his focus moves to other things. When bryan delarosa enters, he can't help but scowl, feeling an overwhelming sense of exhaustion creep over him as he looked at the coward before pointedly turning to look away. [break][break]

Others speak, but Mint is keenly interested and away of fern delaney and Kaname Fujihara . Mainly Fern, though he wondered what was this sudden spike in interest in such an old man? His appearance had rustled more fathers than he'd imagined possible when he'd graded him during the SPECTRA trials. He waves back to Fern, before focusing on the pair. Pale green eyes bounce between Jayden, Fern, and Kaname. And as the discussion devolves into bickering his lips only curl into a grin. [break][break]

Shit devolves like that family dinner scene in Shrek 2. And Mint shakes in his seat in silent laughter. It's not that big of a deal. He'd gotten into it worse with Tempest Quinn weeks ago. [break][break]

THEO BECKETT enters, and Mint rises to greet him after such a long time. It'd been a while since they'd sparred. He settled back down into his seat to continue observing. When there's a lull he chimes in, loudly. "Congrats Admin Delany on your new partnership then! And Head Scientist Ka- Fujihara. It's great we can celebrate the both of you at this meeting." he said. Before taking a glance at the Island Spirit and then back at Zev. "Zev, does it hurt when you Wolverine claws with those weird crystals?" he asked, half joking, half genuine curiosity. He seemed content with ignoring the provocation against Cillian, in favor of talking with a Beast his senior.

With the new Head Scientist now sitting beside him, Barnaby leaned in and asked under his breath, "Not on the best terms, are we?" Obviously in reference to his and Fern's little spat.[break][break]

Quite the shock, given how even-tempered Kaname Fujihara had been on their few interactions, but perhaps the new Avatar simply knew how to get under his skin.[break][break]

Speaking of, Elisabeth Fiorelli wasn't winning any hearts with her slew of cutting remarks; jayden cross in particular appeared to effuse near-palpable hatred toward the woman. Despite Cillian Quinn's cautionary glance, Elisabeth even had the gall to clap of all things, as if she was some sort of cartoon villainess. Such bad taste. [break][break]

WO-CHIEN's influence continued to drag her further through the mud.[break][break]

Barnaby did not scold or even verbally comment on her combative behavior. Instead, a firm hand found its way to the underboss' knee, squeezing it between thumb and index finger. The gesture's intent was obvious. Behave.[break][break]

“I assume we’re here to actually work though, right? Or am I wrong?”

Kaname wanted to go on the offensive, to bite back at fern delaney but was cut short as Underboss THEO BECKETT entered and immediately admonished their petty little squabble. Then Underboss Cillian Quinn followed that up with a reminder to “control themselves”... So the head scientist bites his tongue, content to let the feelings fester for now as Theo serves to literally separate the two men by sitting between them. The degrees of separation between himself and Jayden would only serve to stoke the grudge he had against Fern as Kaname was relegated to the other end of the table. [break][break]

Kaname had a front row seat to Elisabeth Fiorelli ’s display of her own personal power; the slow, mocking applause followed by venomous words directed at Underboss Beckett and another person he’d never heard of. The biting wit and her lack of inhibitions made her more powerful than any avatar; after all, she clearly wasn’t afraid to put it all on the line or admonish what she thought was foolish. Kaname envied the woman for that, for wielding her own power, unafraid of the consequences. [break][break]

Kaname glanced to the left, to gaze at the Pokémon accompanying Underboss Fiorelli. He studied it for a brief minute, half listening to mint frost congratulate him on his appointment. “Thank you.” He said in a half-hearted reply, focused on the grudge-bearing beast. It was the words of BARNABY FINCH that drew his attention. “No. Not the best terms.” He replied idly, shifting his attention to the Admin. He had started to settle into his chair and relax when Barnaby asked him the question to end all questions and his face instantly tightened. [break][break]

There was a rush of disgust as he thought of why Fern Delaney bothered him so much. It was childish, petty even… but the grudge boiled to the surface without much warning or care, thanks to the subtle influence of Elisabeth’s patron. “They have something they don’t deserve.” A hasty response given in a hushed tone as Kaname cast a wanting glance toward the reason for all these feelings in the first place: jayden cross [break][break]

A FOUNT OF SHADOW rises from the end of the table as tendrils of the cave dark stream toward it. From it, declan walsh's stoic face emerges through the smoke and leads the rest of his dark suit into his seat.[break][break]

The Boss' gloved hand rests upon his cane's brass knob, its nickel finish catching the bluish luminescence of the cave and its waters.[break][break]

"i do hope we weren't having too much fun without me." The shadows subside, disintegrating into the blacks of his clothes. Like a scythe, his gaze cuts across the table and ascertains the presence of each conniver. "we have much to discuss."[break][break]

The cave groans. Winds caught within its lapidarian tunnels hiss and echo deep within. Running water trickles and clicks against old stone. Despite the dim of this subterranean abode, the mystery of this place is mythologically bright. KYOGRE once slumbered here. One may wonder if the leviathan originated from these cave waters, or if this place was the well of its primal powers.[break][break]

If so, this grotto was once latent with the possibilities of ecological disruption, the beginnings of Hoenn born disaster... But now, Hoenn disasters extend to the wider universe, stirring powers from all around the world, including those scattered about and/or resting in Terminus Cave.[break][break]

"the league runs this region for now, providing hinderance and nuisance to our operations. yet such grievances are but impedimenta for our eventual triumph." The Rocket Boss says.[break][break]

He takes a pause; carefully, he delivers a message on behalf of his own superiors.[break][break]

"kanto would like to hear from you all personally. they would like to know what you believe to be is the gravest threat to our organization. do not shy away from answering. the league offers much reason to hate them after all."

"Each member of the League proves to be a blight, but when dahlia goode lets such a monster run rampant, there will be no end to the ceaseless torture of Hoenn's citizens."

She sighed, glancing sharply at Kaname Fujihara when Cillian Quinn reprimanded the group, in support of the Underboss, silently communicating her desire for her fellow Head Scientist to get ahold of himself.[break][break]
She noted Kaname's jealousy of fern delaney, however; it was a side of Kaname she had not yet seen: petty and edged with resentment. She filed the data away, wondering if Elisabeth Fiorelli's Wo-Chien was affecting the group more than all of them realized.[break][break]
Nomi spared the snail a curious glance, but declan walsh arrived before she could discern its intentions.[break][break]
Kanto. The word gave Nomi pause, eliciting a pang of sorrow. Her parents had died in Kanto, because of Kanto, and so it was her turn to feel a twinge of resentment. She had promised Cillian that she would not let him down, however, and she had meant it. If there was anything she wanted out of sending a report to Kanto, it was to prove to the regime that their Hoenn counterparts were quite capable of handling their business differently. Better. Without meaningless casualties and brilliant minds wasted.[break][break]
A faded memory of a familiar battlefield, damaged nerves, and the stench of death.[break][break]
War was undesirable. But perhaps unavoidable.[break][break]
"I don't disagree that the League are a nuisance. Dangerous, even," Nomi spoke up, glancing at jayden cross. She nodded to him respectfully, before she went on to disparage his point. "But I believe the more we focus on them, the more we are playing right into the DRK Triad's hands."[break][break]
She paused, meeting Walsh's dark gaze. Unafraid.[break][break]
"The conflicts at the Ultra Deep Sea and the Ancient Tomb were distractions. Perhaps even deliberately orchestrated by those who wish to see us waste our time with the League. I even have suspicions that our very own RKS Machine has been infiltrated by the DRK Triad, which we might have been able to prevent had our attention not been so divided."[break][break]
Her voice hardened, her Unown-A drifting closer to her shoulder, staring out at the table with much the same intensity that she did.[break][break]
"Arceus and its agents are our greatest threat."

"MATIAS SILPH is the League's entitled, spoiled brat," she piped up as the room died down. Carmine eyes turned to meet jayden cross's, unrelenting as they held his stare, while she continued evenly, "He is the only person the League hates as much as us, if not more. Every liberty he takes is another fraying thread that struggles to tether him to the League's good graces."[break][break]

The underboss failed to suppress a thin, privately amused smile.[break][break]

The matter of Elinor Anderson she purposefully ignored. Truthfully, she'd been part of the reason that the councilwoman had escaped; boredom, entertainment, and complete apathy to Elinor's imprisonment had all culminated in Elisabeth's little game with Callan Young.[break][break]

Something told her that the others wouldn't appreciate knowing that little tidbit.[break][break]

declan walsh finally arrived, emerging from the very shadows of the cavern itself. Zev had never been this near to the Rocket Boss before, having only observed him from afar at the summit last September.[break][break]

A palpable aura of authority and danger emanated from him, one that Zev noticed at once. It set his killer's instincts on edge.[break][break]

Walsh's mention of Kanto came unexpectedly. Zev favored that branch of Team Rocket, but they hadn't exactly checked in since his arrival in Hoenn four years ago.[break][break]

As the hitman contemplated his answer, jayden cross, Naomi Sato, Cillian Quinn, and Elisabeth Fiorelli all shared their thoughts. In silence, he regarded each one of them in turn, his gaze lingering on Wo-Chien's Avatar. How ironic that he shared her views above the others.[break][break]

"A threat to Hoenn is a threat to this branch of our organization. It goes without saying that the answer to the question would be different if we were in Sinnoh, in Johto, in Paldea," Zev said at last, directing his comment to jayden cross.[break][break]

To the rest of the table, he said, "I agree with Underboss Fiorelli here. The DRK Triad is a dangerous organization, and the fact that we know very little about them is a weakness in our defenses."[break][break]

He spared a glance at Elisabeth Fiorelli, schooling the hate out of his face to maintain a coolly neutral expression.[break][break]

Was that a jealous glint in Kaname Fujihara's eye? jayden cross was usually so reserved around others, it surprised Barnaby that the man was able to stoke such contempt within their ranks. Before he could comment on the matter, however, declan walsh arrived.[break][break]

Discussion began in earnest, with jayden cross, Naomi Sato, Cillian Quinn, Elisabeth Fiorelli, and Zev Harcourt speaking to their points. Barnaby listened to all in turn before adding his own thoughts to the mix.[break][break]

"League aside, I agree that the DRK Triad is Hoenn's most substantial threat — meaning it should be Rocket's as well. Our organization is meaningless without a region to control." The admin spoke at large to the room, but dipped his head to jayden cross in particular.[break][break]

"So how do we learn more about this enemy that keeps presenting themselves over and over again?" A question posed for all to answer, though Barnaby offered his own first.[break][break]

"Maldacena." The outlier, the defector. "As Head Scientist Sato said, we've experienced scenarios in the RKS Simulation that make me believe the DRK Triad is watching us. But so is Maldacena, if the simulations are true."[break][break]

"He's expressed not wanting our universe to come to an untimely end. If we found a way to connect with him, perhaps he'd give us more information on the DRK Triad." And how to end their meddling ways.[break][break]

Alternatively, Zev Harcourt proposed a more bullheaded approach.[break][break]

"You mean Necrozma." The Beast's little parlor trick came to mind. "And even if Rocket did have this power, could you control it? Chu-e Choi was little else but host to a parasite. What makes your situation different?"

From the moment Nomi had met Zev Harcourt, she had known what he was: more monster than human. She had studied his new powers, observed his demeanor in Lesser Megalopolis, and read every report available on his history. Once, she had even visited him for advice and had been made stronger because of it. She had seated herself next to him at this very meeting without batting an eyelash; out of all the dangerous people at the table, his would-be patron was the most terrifying of them all, and he had been the one to explain to them all why.[break][break]
"The Black Knight," she murmured softly, ominously. "Prefers to leave no survivors." Was not their very own Black Hand the same? Better for him to be their ally rather than their enemy.[break][break]
And what of the Skeleton? But she did not voice that thought.[break][break]
She paused, glancing at Elisabeth Fiorelli. The one they hadn't kept a close enough eye on. Nomi wouldn't make that same mistake twice, which is why she intended to keep tabs on Zev.[break][break]
"Because Underboss Fiorelli makes a very important point - one I do agree with - I must emphasize that as long as the DRK Triad is allied with Arceus, they will have powers beyond our imagining. They will be able to take control of other universes before we can, for good or for ill."[break][break]
Her eyes found Zev once more.[break][break]
"Chu-e Choi was weak," she said simply. Matter-of-fact. She'd read those reports, too. "It is in our best interest to support Zev in finding and wrangling Necrozma. The power to destroy other universes is something we need, if we are to fight the DRK Triad on a cosmic scale."[break][break]
But how to leave theirs?[break][break]
"I should note," she added finally. "That I have made it my number one priority as of late, to discover how the Unown travel between realms. The DRK Triad uses them this way, after all." She smiled pleasantly. "I believe that I have successfully begun to earn their trust."

Zev opened his mouth to retort against Bee's skepticism, but Naomi Sato spoke up first. Her unwavering conviction caught Zev off guard, though he only expressed it in the slight arch of an eyebrow in her direction.[break][break]

At her mention of Chu-e Choi, the hitman took the opening to defend his stance.[break][break]

"Choi was not just weak, he was dying," Zev added. His blue gaze swept toward Cillian Quinn, who had shared this information with him on the fateful night Zev had received his powers. "Without Necrozma using him as a host, he would have perished."[break][break]

Zev felt it unnecessary to explain further, but just in case:[break][break]

"My situation is very different. Not only in terms of my physical condition, but even my powers are different from Choi's. And not once have I tried to eat anyone."[break][break]

After all, one of the main manifestations of Chu-e's infestation had been their ravenous hunger for infinity energy. And though Zev had felt the craving at first as the crystals forced themselves into his body, he hadn't known it since.

A shrug openly conceded jayden cross's points to him, uninterested in discussing the matter of the Silph further. If they wanted to spend their resources on an unpredictable man who was poisoning the League from within, so be it.[break][break]

Tension began to ripple outwards across the Cave of Origin as BARNABY FINCH and Zev Harcourt exchanged words, and Elisabeth leaned her chin further into her hand, fascinated by the discourse that followed.[break][break]

Well, well. Who knew that the insufferably cheery Naomi Sato had a soft spot for surly, grumpy old Zev Harcourt? How intriguing.[break][break]

"Head Scientist Sato is right, naturally," the underboss insisted with a cat-like smile, shifting her attention to Zev Harcourt. "Beast Harcourt is quite the powerful asset in Rocket due to Necrozma's blessings and boons. However..."[break][break]

Her fingers danced across the table's surface with a spidery precision, as if illustrating her next point.[break][break]

"Well, we have a nasty habit of losing our most powerful chess pieces, don't we? Admin Fox -- ah excuse me, Crown Prince Remiel Calcifet -- comes to mind with Zekrom. Underboss Killian Decker and Deoxys, not to mention Underboss del Mar and the Unown. And so on, and so forth. Even Chu-e Choi, if we are to be frank."[break][break]

She didn't have to overtly state that some of those names were lost to treason. That implicit threat had already been voiced by Admin jayden cross minutes ago, where it was undoubtedly fresh in everyone's minds.[break][break]

A pale hand paused mid-air, as if hesitating before placing a proverbial chess piece on an imaginary board.[break][break]

"So I do hesitate for us to spend all our time and resources chasing a possibility that relies on one piece staying put on the board for too long." Her gaze returned to the Black Hand, along with a mocking grin he'd know too well. "Your tenure and unimpeachable physical condition notwithstanding, of course."[break][break]

Satisfied with her explanation and the placement of her final thought, her hands folded themselves across the table, at rest.[break][break]

"But ah, we were discussing the DRK Triad, weren't we?" she continued blithely. Carmine eyes settled on BARNABY FINCH, a shade softer than they had been a moment prior. "It sounds as if this Maldacena may wish to ally with us. We should consider if we'd be willing to do the same, if the opportunity presents itself."[break][break]

The previous frigidity in her glare resumed as she turned to Naomi Sato.[break][break]

"Admittedly, I have spent less time exploring the RKS Simulations than most, but I wonder -- how certain are we of the DRK Triad's involvement there? And when you have time, Sato, I'd be interested in hearing more about this traveling through worlds through the manipulation of Unown."[break][break]

Begrudging respect sat in her request, which was desperately curious despite herself.[break][break]
