Perhaps the Warden felt that, for all of Eddie's physical prowess, his tender heart might not be up to snuff. He's a deeply sentimental man, emotional and unfamiliar with loss. When the chips are down, will Eddie actually be able to step up to the plate, or will he crumble under the weight of the horrors that so often converge upon Hoenn? Maybe, or maybe not. The desire to fend off the inevitable, and going against the odds, that sometimes prompts the dumb decision of her trying to bite far more than she can chew for the sake of someone else.
