Kaida stared at the Pokeball in her hands. In the chaos of driving off the interlopers, she had been jumped at by one and threw up a Pokeball in her defense. Now she had to keep it, she supposed. At this point, she was really going to need an aquarium for her Pokemon. [break][break]

The strange lightning in the sky made her nervous, was a storm of some sort coming, or a gathering of electric types? She simply resolved to keep the back of her mind on the situation. She could tell the crowd to flee if something started approaching. In the meantime, she found another float in her hand. [break][break]

The sight of the Marowak was both pleasant and familiar, but she hasn't expected one to approach and thrust a flaming stick in her hands...it was fine. She failed at jump rope, but maybe she could impress illeana reyes or something with this! [break][break]

"hehe, yeah," kyle mumbles, agreeing with noah faber . "that's why you're carrying me like this." it didn't make much sense, but nothing much does in kyle's head at the moment.

he gets free from noah's hold and spots the next attraction. "yeah, we're trying that," he informs noah as he brings him along with him, holding his hand so he doesn't lose him in the crowd.

kyle is handed a baton upon reaching the place. his irises grow wide with awe as the flames get his attention. it wasn't as showy as it was if it had been nighttime, but fire still was enough to get him fixated on it.

finally letting go of noah, he steps up and tries to do the thing.

[attr="class","spiral"]Like a reluctant parent being paraded around an amusement park, Fernando is dragged along by the cusp of their hands. At first, he pays it no mind but the sudden grab leaves their grip flimsy at best. When Stormy gets too ahead or herself, or if he takes too long to match her pace, her hands slips to his wrist, slackened by the much narrower space between her fingers. On his own accord, Fernando shifts his hand against hers, sneaking his fingers between her own for a proper 'hand holding'. The affection behind the gesture slips his mind, an action of comfort more than anything else.

"How about BARBECUE?"

Naturally, Fernando goes for the most expensive thing they have to offer. It's not on purpose but it goes without saying that his palette is more refined for items that fit his budget. Several steaks are slapped onto a grill behind the counter, still chilled, promising to take at least a couple minute to hit that perfect medium rare.

So he’d missed the Mareanie horde, but thankfully there were a lot of people who had driven the beasts back into the ocean—although he felt a little sorry for any nearby Corsola because yikes, the food chain was going to be majorly upset.

Now that the next mini-game caught his attention, he felt his eyebrows go up ever so slightly and wondered if he would end up getting burned like what happened to most inexperienced fire dancers. Deciding to watch the proceedings first, he took another Poppin’ Pachirisu Float and downed the danged thing in one go—what was it with him and these floats anyway?

Now that he was done—it was time to see if he could still play with fire. Or would it turn to ice when he touched it? Who knew?

Corviknight swoops back to deposit an unconscious Mareanie at Gavin's feet. It's bizarre, like a cat Pokemon leaving gifts on your doorstep, and he can't help but laugh as he glances at Emma. The metal bird lets out a soft quark, preening itself, and the Rocket's smile is fond as he pats its beak.[break][break]

He returns Corviknight to its ball and taps the exhausted Mareanie with an empty one.[break][break]

"That's the first time he's done that," Gavin tells Emma, still chuckling as he shakes his head and pockets the ball. "I guess we know who to blame if Rattata start turning up on our doorstep."[break][break]

Lights continue to flash along the horizon, and Gavin's gaze is only drawn from them when he spots the Marowak fire-dancing on the beach.

He's got his hand on his own Marowak's pokeball before he remembers Emma's dislike for ghosts and hesitates. "I'll make sure it doesn't bother you, love," he promises, quiet enough that only she would hear. When they start enticing people to join in their reckless activity, Gavin simply can't help himself. His Marowak offers a solemn insistence as it dexterously spins its bone.

He takes a shot of liquid confidence in the form of a PACHIRISU FLOAT before grabbing one of the baton and giving it a twirl. He can feel the heat radiating from it, making his hands and his face uncomfortably warm.[break][break]

She pulls too far ahead and her grip on his hand slips momentarily, causing her to hold back and readjust. But Fernando has already done that, linking his fingers through hers and, in doing so, pulls her back closer to him. They hesitate and her expression brightens at the mention of barbeque, anticipation evident in the way her hand squeezes his.[break][break]

"That sounds amazing, hell yes, let's go."[break][break]

And then she tugs him along to join the line for the barbeque. Her attention does, however, shift to the commotion further up the beach, the dancing flames attracting her. [break][break]

Despite how much fun the other may be having, he only sees it as a liability. It only takes one bad move to end up with a terrible burn. Not to mention the copious amount of alcohol present between guests.

Yet, somehow, he gets peer pressured into giving it a go. Still relatively sober, Fernando handles the stick with a delicacy that shows his concerns. While not showy by any means, he manages to handle it without hurting himself. Now does that pass as a fire dance? That's a different question altogether.

is a thunderstorm possible in the middle of one summer day?[break]

to say the least, selena was more than happy that a swarm of mareanie invaded the beach. she had been wanting to have a mareanie ever since but they were somehow rare in alola. the crowd cheered when the trainers, some of which she knew for they issued challenges in the lilycove gym, drove off the toxic spike pokémons and proceeded with the celebration. but selena was still worried about the flashes of lightning in the skies.[break][break]

the kalosian tried her chance with the newest mini-game, taunted by a bunch of alolan marowaks to try spinning the fire herself. one last gulp for her glass of poppin’ pachirisu, and then she twirled the blazing rods amidst the people’s laughter.[break][break]

Emma's face exhibits disgust as the Mareanie is unceremoniously dropped at their feet. She glances to the bird responsible for the mess, watches as it preens its feathers. It's proud of itself, apparently.[break][break]

And so is Gavin of it, given his chuckle. She raises an eyebrow, unsure what to make of his excitement. It both relieves and stresses her out how relaxed he is in such an open setting as this, with eyes on him and people crowding. Where she was uneasy, he was at ease. It helped her moderately, keeping him close.[break][break]

That is, of course, until he leaves again for the next mini-event. This time with his ghost-type Pokemon in tow. Something about a fire-dancing event. It seemed dangerous and she was happy to sit out.[break][break]

She does, however, linger on the fringes to watch him.

Stormy seems agitated, impatient, anticipating the fire dance. Her order is clipped and she definitely doesn't get what she wanted but it's fine, she wasn't clear.[break][break]

And she waits patiently, impatiently, guarding his food while he steps away to conquer the event. Which he does, of course, because he's Fernando Silph.[break][break]

When he returns, she's kept his plate warm without overcooking his perfect steak. She wastes no time bouncing up from her seat to take her own shot at it.[break][break]

"Tag me in, tag me in!"[break][break]

Whether he claps her hand is irrelevant, she's already melting into the fire dance crowd, downing a pachirisu float to brandish her own moves. It almost looks, combined with everyone else's flames, that she literally bears FIERY WINGS.[break][break]

elijah's teeth move underneath his tightly closed lips. the wink is seemingly ineffective- but perhaps, the solemn man is simply good at hiding. at the sound of a discount, he finally smiles. it's small. the briefest hint of one.

"pleasure to be doing business with you." he says, voice like a slow rolling boulder.

their newest bit of company arrives. his hard stare lands on adrian as if able to pierce through the shade of his beach umbrella.

"french fries." he says. "elijah. does he do photography too?" a curt thumb jabs toward the man.

setting his tome down, he lifts himself up like a tree uprooting itself from a vat and scratches his back.

although kyle is heavy, noah is content with his cradle. it's a microcosm of comfort within the crowded cast of beach bodies and barbecue smells. but kyle is strong enough to break free. "what?"

he sees fire. before he can protest, noah is hauled through the sand.

"kyle, the sticks are literally on fire, dude. you're gonna hurt yourself and-"

kyle eventually has to free him, and as noah is replaced by a baton, the rustboro gym leader can only watch his boyfriend play with flames. perhaps, the liquor is a boon. no hesitance. just play.

noah is egged on by the organizers to try too- and unable to stop himself, he begins to dance. however, he's distracted, eyes ever-searching, ever-predicting kyle's next drunken move.

As Maverick continued to help people get mareanie off the beach, one of them jumped on his head. The man hollered, but it was muffled by the poison and waters body. After several minutes of pulling and tugging at the creature, an idea popped in his head as he reached into his pockets. It took him a minute but his hand finally snatched a ball. Reaching his hand above his head, he smacked the ball on what he could only assume was the creature. The ball sucked the creature in and locked behind it. He gasped for air, hunching over as he dropped the ball. Warm gaze flickered as he tried to get oxygen, it clicking the confirm that he captured it. “Well… Then…” the man emitted between breaths before picking the ball off the ground and staring at it, “What in the hell I’m I going to do with this.” After a moment, the trainer shoved the ball in his pocket and helped everyone else get them off the beach.

With all the commotion, Maverick sobered up and was soon his bleh self. It was a pity but spying a free drink stand, he wasn’t going to pass it up. After taking a moment to think over his drink options, Maverick got his normal pachrisu float and moved down the beach were a crowd of people gathered. He pushed his way through to see a dancing alolan marowak. And as expected, once his drink was finished all it took was a simple invite convinced him to join in. Before Maverick knew it, he was dancing with other people and pokemon. He heard the crowd cheer and seen faces, though none he picked out that he recognized. And really, that was probably for a good reason. He would never want someone to bring this up as he danced like an idiot in front of strangers, doing his best not to care if he was looking like.

Adrian cocked an eyebrow at the guess, not quite sure what elijah gardner and Serena Malcolm had been discussing before he'd deigned to show up, though he almost takes offense (probably because they'd jabbed those dirty sausage fingers at him.)

Closing his eyes briefly in contemplation, flicking his head side-to-side while dipping his chin, he offers answers in a flat tone. "I make music."

Although to be fair, he didn't make much of anything lately, except trouble for himself...

Luckily they'd managed to excuse themselves for food, although Piper'd already begun associating herself with this 'partner' she'd found for herself... far be it from his business, but it rubbed him the wrong way. Not that he knew how to say as much.

Or whether it was even his place to. Waving off Elijah while Piper donned her flip flops, they were eventually free to find their way to the boardwalk, where the smell of smoke reigned over brine.

However, as he glided across the sand with Piper in tow Adrian noticed another event beginning. He noticed Kyle and Noah, and possibly a few others.

Dancing with fire? How oddly appealing.

It wasn't until they were on their way back from getting food that Adrian decided to point them out, hoping to inspire Piper to tag along with him.

"Hey, didja wanna try that?" Adrian took a hold of Piper's shoulder and turned her towards the Alolan Marowak overseeing the activity in silent appraisal of the participants. "Looks like fun."
