Fishing was not something he thought he would try. But why not? He kind of wanted to surprise Nico with a water-pokemon... if he even liked it? If not, well, they got a swimming friend at least. So he settled on the beach, planting his tush right into the yellow sands. Remidned of how much he hated the sand. Swinging the poke in his hands, he sent the line flying and into the water.

...As much as he enjoyed his fair share of water-based activities, he had to admit that fishing, in general, hadn't quite been something that he indulged within nearly as much as the rest. That wasn't to say that he hadn't done it, though.[break][break]

He'd had his fair share of fishing trips within the company to enjoy the sun.[break][break]

Aside from those, however, his experience had admittedly been lower than his other plethora of skills, but nevertheless, he'd taken a rod (long stashed and unused from his last fishing venture) and baited it accordingly before casting it out.[break][break]

Julia liked excitement. She liked the dunk tank, which required both throwing skill and the courage to become a target yourself. She liked Mantine Surfing with its high-velocity tricks that had her taking an involuntary swim more than once. She liked hunting for treasure in an underwater environment. But sometimes, you just had to sit back and let yourself relax. And that's just what Julia did today.

[break][break]She lounged on Lazuli's back, a fishing rod in her hands, and let out a calm sigh. It was hot, but other than that, it was a great day. The sun was shining, the sea was calm, and in the distance, she could hear Splashfest's other activities and the festival-goers enjoying them, putting a smile on her face without being distracting.

[break][break]"This is nice," she said. It wasn't something she would do often, but this was a special occasion. Lazuli nodded her agreement, not wanting her song to scare off the fish.

While Josh wasn't much of a fisherman, he wasn't going to say no to adding another Water-type Pokémon to his team. Rather than renting a boat, he felt more comfortable casting his line from the back of his Dragonair. It felt a little weird sitting side-saddle at first, but he was certain he would get used to it.

Shalin, likewise, wasn't much of a fisherwoman; she was one of those people that could not watch the world go by while she waited for something to tug at her line. She did need another water-type, though, and that was her primary motivation for entering the contest. She set out aboard her Milotic and cast her line, ready to jump at the first tug she felt.

With so many lines dropped along the beach, it was no wonder the fish were getting a bit skittish. Still, eventually their hunger would win out, and he'd land his next catch.[break][break]

He takes a moment to look at his phone, checking on social media and the Unown Report when he notices his line slowly dragging. He's already setting the phone down and reaching out towards it when a sudden tug takes hold, though he manages to keep it from flying over the rail.[break][break]

Finally! Alright, what are ya...?[break][break]

After a bit of back-and-forth, he'd eventually yank the fish above the water line (and onto the deck of the pier), granting him a chance the measure up his pull.[break][break]

That extra-large Gyarados gave him a fright, thankfully he had the ‘eyes in the sky’ to scream at the large-ass thing before it started attacking everyone within its line of sight.

So today, though, what would turn up on the other end of the line?
