Jack arrives at the Lilycove Ranger HQ panting with effort as he hauls a pot of curry inside. Watts unhelpfully weaves in and out of his legs as he walks, the Boltund almost vibrating with excitement at meeting new people who might pet or feed him. With one final heave, he slid the pot onto the table with the rest of the food and removes the cover. The savory smell of the curry mixes in with the scents of carbonara, pizza, chili, and other enticing flavors. Jack's mouth began to water as his eyes take it all in and so, wracked with indecision, he loads his plate with a bit of everything.

Turning around, balancing his overloaded plate in one hand, he scans the room for familiar faces. Verdanturf was a quiet Ranger outpost so, except for some of his dispatches to assist with the busy Slateport group, he knew very few of his fellow Rangers. Spotting Tam Fawley's familiar face, he ambles over with Watts in tow, careful not to bump into anyone or spill his plate of delicious morsels.

"Captain," Jack says to the man, sketching out a playful salute with his free hand. Grabbing a piece of pizza that has chili soaked onto one half and bits of cobbler clinging to the tip, Jack nods to Caleb Harcourt and the other Rangers near Captain Fawley. "The name's Jack," he says by way of introduction before he begins to eat.

Six months huh? And originally a miner? That was almost an extreme job change. "Quite the change. We have our caves here in Hoenn, so you may still be inside a small space. Still, hope you're finding it satisfying." He was then asked about himself. "Sort of started when I found an injured Dratini near my home. I'm from Blackthorn City. Then it was just the news we kept getting from Kanto. After hearing about the job from local rangers, I started going for it, even after my parents were killed by Rocket. One of my younger siblings started an orphanage in their memory, while my older siblings donate regularly to give the orphans the best chance possible after they leave the orphanage. I got transfered here shortly after Sootopolis City fell to Rocket, to try to assist as much as possible."

Oliver didn't say his initial good first impressions, then his bad impressions of Greyson Connors. He hadn't much interaction with anyone else of real note. He did meet once of the council members...that interaction...was interesting. "I'm stationed here in Lilycove. How about you?" Maybe he'll get a chance to work with the guy. More and more people were coming in as well. And the red head wondered if he should also try to interact with others.

It was always an interesting thing to see Tam Fawley interact with others and it was even more interesting to see people interact with him too, always felt like the strangest thing was about to happen or the strangest story would come out. Noah was always happy to be around people specially when there was good food going around.[break][break]

Almost as if his writer had payed attention to anything at all and was an airhead to the highest level. Noah would be face ddep into a slice of pizza to really notice what was going around, he knew that Hailee Jacobs was there and that made him happy, she was the cheese to his pizza. Other ranger buddies had been there too like @arashi and Orion Lykos , two people he wished to learn more from. He was also sure at some point he had waved at Amelia Livy , an amazing ranger he had met in a previous mission.[break][break]

Noah's head would perk up at the sound of "illegal drift race". Noah would look toward Tam with a piece of pizza still in his mouth. "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa? Can you explain more?" Noah would say with a big excited gulp to get the pizza going. He was sure this would be a story that would be saved in his mental hard drive. Maybe this jack wainwright would make this trip hell of worth it.[break][break]

Paxton nodded over at the first to respond, a rookie it seemed. "Yeah, I'm with Lilycove City PD. But I'm so low on the totem pole they rent me out to work with other League personnel. Mostly Rangers." he said with a small nod. He didn't seem bitter about his status. Frankly, he liked being a beat cop. And it wasn't like he was down bad for cash. "Mmm, a rookie huh...? How d'you like it so far, Wren?" Most people at the precinct weren't young recruit. Rangers seemed to attract the bright eyed and bushy tailed type. [break][break]

Orion hold up a bowl of mac&cheese in answer to Hailee's first question before swallowing the bite he took and adding, "You're barely even late. Come sit." She smiles and nods as she glances over to Tam who seemed to be captivated by the pizza. Understandably so, as an avid pizza lover herself she could certainly understand the appeal. [break][break]

Hell, she was sure she'd grab herself a slice or two in a moment. Her stomach growled as if to encourage her to finally move from her spot to get started on scoring some good grub. Hailee held up a finger as if to say 'One moment,' before slipping over to the table with the spread to begin her assault on the delicacies presented. [break][break]

As a foodie, Hailee was in heaven. She'd try a little bit of everything but she wanted to make sure she had plenty of the stuff she likes. While also staying away from the veggies. She didn't want anything to do with that. This is actually what Hailee spent her time doing. Pouring over her choices she quickly began to fill up her plate with the goods. [break][break]

A couple of slices of pizza, some pasta, a little casserole, of course the fries, and even some of the pulled pork empanadas. When her plate was filled and she couldn't pile anymore on she decided to grab a tasty drink and take her seat. Dessert, of course, being saved for last. Hailee took her seat beside Noah and decided to chow down, listening as people interacted with the other slateport crew while she munched and crunched. [break][break]

The food was amazing, and Hailee was so glad that she showed up. Her day was made by this potluck. Her earlier anxiety and stress melting away into a thing of the past. "Captain," a unfamiliar guy says to Tam as he approaches their table. "The name's Jack," Hailee nods for a seconds as she takes a swig of her drink before the words register in her head and she chokes. [break][break]

Did jack wainwright say Captain? To Tam??! "CAPTAIN?!" Hailee exclaimed after catching her breath. This entire time Hailee had thought Tam was just a cadet like the rest of them. She was going to ask about the drag racing bit but it seemed like the meeting was finally getting started as ollie morales got up from his seat to stand at the head of the table. "first off - thanks for coming! the spread looks amazing." he chuckles. "now, everyone give a big round of applause —" Ollie then gestures to Guillermo Marceliño and annalise henderson, "to our two new ranger captains! guillermo marceliño promoted to captain of fortree, and annalise henderson to captain of mauville!"[break][break]

Hailee clapped her hands together as the rest of the room also erupted into applause for the newly appointed captains. Ollie then walks around to the center of the table and flips open a cake box that was revealed to have congratulatory inscribing's for the newly appointed captains on it. "i made it all by myself —" he says. "well, and a little help." [break][break]

Hailee couldn't imagine what it would be like with all that pressure and responsibility. She barely could finish her school assignments on top of the paperwork that was required for her to push with her ranger job. But she wished the two of them the best in their endeavors. With the state of things in Hoenn they would need all the luck and encouragement they could get. This shit wasn't easy.

Matt cocked a brow as he was simply. Stared at. The annoyance clearly spread over his face, wanting to tell this guy off, but not going to fight at his first official ranger event. Hmph. After making sure Josh Devlin got his food cleaned up, he was checking his phone to see Anna's message. Looking around for her, he found her. Waving at her.

"She invited us over to sit, let's go." He said, looking relieved and actually excited for once through the entire night. Grabbing his own plate of food, he went to head over towards annalise henderson. But stopped halfway there at the announcement. Hearing Anna's name mentioned, he looked towards her direction and gave a loud whistle for her. Going over and setting his plate down, he gave her a hug.

"Congrats!"

Having partaken of the food, and simply let people do their conversations as appropriate, Elinor would find her way to her seating. Picking whichever one was closest to Laurence Anderson because, why not?

Anyhow, papers were handed out. She got hers and sent the rest onward. Ever curious she sneaked a peak and saw the locations. The taste of Pizza in her mouth soured, and so did the look on her face. She what this was about. And it wasn’t about to be pleasant.

But moving on. Some promotions were announced. Elinor looked surprised, though she wouldn’t be able to explain why even if she was asked. After all, annalise henderson was a good and proper Ranger, it was only natural that she would be promoted.

Elinor joined in on the applause, clapping her hands together more enthusiastically than a Sealeo just about to be fed. Anna really deserved this after all. “Well done you two!” Elinor proclaimed figuring a word or two would not hurt.

Memo takes his proffered envelope and opens it. He sees the list of cities-- sees Fortree-- and his heart does the cardiological equivalent of a rubber-band snap in his chest. He doesn’t know what it means, but he doesn’t like it.

They wouldn’t-- they wouldn’t promote him just to destroy the city, would they?

He gives himself a little shake. That was-- those kinds of thoughts were new. He wouldn’t have even gone in that direction had he not been severed from his positive emotions in cyberspace hell.

Spiraling down dark corridors, he’s drawn back to himself when he hears his name and feels Anna stand up next to him; he stands up almost embarrassingly quick, barely avoiding the chair falling backwards from the snap of his knees. He forces a smile, because this should be a proud moment, a happy moment--

--but he feels like he’s.

He’s so distant.

He smiles, though. Smiles as Ollie spins the cake towards them. Smiles at all the beaming faces and congratulations.

“Thanks, everyone,” he says, and his voice sounds happy. He’s doing a pretty good job of faking it despite the anxiety coiling like a serpent in his gut.

He nudges Anna with his elbow. “Congratulations to you, too.” His voice is not hollow, even though he kind of is.

This whole thing was an embarrassing mess and quite frankly, he was ready to just go and chill somewhere alone, and listen to the briefing from afar if at all possible. But it wasn't good form, he knew, so he'd try and stomach being around so many strangers best he could. Even after he had accidentally infuriated one by scaring the kid. Josh took a deep breath and did his best to put a brave face on.

His HoloWatch would vibrate, and Josh looked to see a text from his boss. Laurence Anderson was asking if he had brought what they had agreed on, and Josh would send a quick "Yes, sir. I have it with me" in response before returning to this makeshift little party just in time to find a seat alongside Izumi Yamamura and get a bit more food before finding a seat for the actual meeting portion.

First stepped up a man who looked vaguely like someone he'd met before, but he was pretty sure it wasn't them. Their hair made them look the part of a bit of a schemer though... Regardless, ollie morales with Pikachu in tow would begin his announcement. The sight of the Pikachu seemed to spark the already-impatient behavior of Josh's Raichu, Lightning, who promptly let itself out of its ball and settled down next to Josh and Izumi. Josh could only sigh and smile a bit at that. Expecting Lightning to stay in its ball for too long was, after all, far too much to ask. "I was going to let you out when it was our turn" he whispered amusedly to the Raichu, but Lightning wasn't listening. "Oh well, I expected this. Here you go" Josh brought up then, revealing a second plate of food that he had stocked up for Lightning. It seemed that Josh had been fully prepared for this to happen, though he didn't know when exactly the Raichu would lose patience. It was still a work in progress to get it to go into its ball in the first place.

Promotions, aye? Josh shot a smile in congratulations towards annalise henderson and Guillermo Marceliño who were now Ranger Captains. Should he be envious? Probably a tad, but considering his wife was Lavaridge's Ranger Captain, he wasn't all that fussed. The two of them practically ran Lavaridge's branch together anyway and he wasn't one to get hung up on titles. Still, it was good to see these two working their way up and continuing to be of service to the Rangers.

Eating by her lonesome and waiting for the news Laurence Anderson wanted to give, Kaida was one of the many immediately struck by curiosity and opening her envelop, tilting her head at what was within. All locations she knew, but what could their connection be?

Before she could even try and decipher it, supposedly good news struck. Promotions, a happy affair, a good affair. They were becoming important people. Kaida wondered how such a promotion might feel, then quickly decided she'd hate it. Being in front of that many people, assigned to one city rather than find her way to help across the region? Not her thing.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

Given the two people, she tried to strike a balance between total disinterest and actual celebration. annalise henderson was good, she knew she was good, and deserved this...she couldn't strike a celebration with Guillermo Marceliño , however.

...The result may have looked like and incredibly pissed off mafia boss...

[break][break]There was a commotion as Josh Dragomir started Josh Devlin into dropping his plate. Luckily, there were immediately plenty of people to help clean up the mess. When that was done and Josh had gotten his new helping of food, he approached Julia. She tapped her feet on the floor like she was doing a much simpler pattern ending with a left-right double to greet him back. She wasn't nearly as good at the game as Josh—her lack of practice and inability to feel with one foot didn't help—but she still had fun playing it. Plus, how many games actually gave you exercise?

[break][break]"That's awesome!" she said about his incoming red uniform. "You totally deserve it. And it sounds like Matt had a good tutor, too." She smiled over at Matt Vice, hoping to break the ice. He seemed pretty eager to get away from these strangers, and sadly, Julia was strangers.

[break][break]The compliment toward her sausage balls had her smiling even wider. "Thanks! Yeah, they're a family classic." She looked at her own plate, stacked high with various foods. "I'm gonna have to do some extra exercise to work off all these carbs later. So worth it, though."

[break][break]Envelopes were passed around to the Rangers in attendance. Julia, ever the curious type, opened hers right away and saw the marked map of Hoenn. She knitted her brow in confusion. One of the marked locations was her own hometown. What the heck did it mean?

[break][break]Ollie's sharp whistle drew her attention from the map. Oh my gosh, that Pikachu is so cute, she thought, watching it nibble on a cookie. But she forced her attention to the captain as he spoke. Seemed it was time for the serious business to start.

[break][break]The first order of business was promotions. She joined in the applause for the promotions, especially for Guillermo Marceliño, given that Julia was a Fortree Ranger. "Congratulations!" she said. She'd have to go introduce herself when the meeting was over. Julia couldn't help but feel like he seemed a bit off, though. Maybe he was worried about the map, too? Hopefully, that would be explained soon.

"Thanks, all of you," Josh sheepishly replied, flooded with people helping him get cleaned up. He turned to Big Josh briefly with a flustered look on his face. "Hey, boss," he greeted one of his Ranger superiors. "I didn't intend to make a scene. Just be careful about that when people have food in their hands. Nice to see you again! I've been busy as both a Ranger and a Gym Leader now! They've been talking about promoting me, too!"

As Josh smiled while digging into all the cheesy foods on his plate, he caught a glimpse of SACHA ROSIER waving at him. "Hi Sacha!" he greeted the Rookie. "So many familiar faces here! I thought there were way more Rangers in Hoenn and would get lost! How you been?"

The racer briefly turned his attention back to Julia Davis , who seemed to have the same idea of greeting by following up fancy footwork with some of her own. "Grind for your first 14 clear, then!" Josh teased. "14s are no joke, but do they ever burn the calories off! Sadly my second 17 clear still eludes me. I've got my eyes on Let's DANCE aROUND!! Challenge. It doesn't look that bad." He pulled up a chart video on his phone and offered to show it to Julia. 17s were still 17s, though...

By the time he had finished his cheesy plate, the meeting had formally started. He had assumed he was given instructions not to open the envelope until directed to do so; it seems others had not followed those perceived instructions. His time as Ranger had given him more patience than he had as a racer and Gym Challenger, that much was certain. He still had a full dessert plate for the meeting proper, but couldn't dig into that quite yet; he would have to wait for his meal to settle a bit. That was way more than he was used to eating.

The first announcement was of promotions. Josh applauded the two, even going as far to whistle when hearing about the new Mauville Captain. Josh would be working out of Mauville soon; he expected to get transferred out of Fortree starting at the beginning of the month. Once all the announcements had been completed and there was a brief recess, he grabbed a small slice of Ollie's cake. Some of this he might have to take back to his hotel room. There was no way he was downing all this food.

"Congratulations to both of you, Guillermo Marceliño and annalise henderson !" he complimented the two on their promotions. "Wait, Annalise, did Ollie say Mauville Ranger Captain? I'm getting transferred there next month! So you'll be my boss!" The Rookie Ranger's level of enthusiasm seemed way too high for a simple Ranger meetup. "I'm Josh, a new Ranger fresh out of Rookie status. Back in a flash." He moved his remaining plates so he could sit down next to the new Captain. "Also a Gym Leader in the Minors and a Pokémon racer. Though I imagine with how busy we're getting, I'm going to have to give the latter up. Worth, though; I've been doing mostly rescues since I've started, and the beaming faces of every person I bring back to safety is what keeps me going."
