THE RAMP'S BANK ANGLE was incredibly steep, designed to sap momentum from Pokémon that ran up it. It would make completing the turn easier, provided the teams had enough speed entering it. That amount of speed, of course, would be difficult to judge. Not enough, and the Pokémon would get stuck between the ramp and the inner wall, struggling to get to the other side and perhaps even slipping. Too much, and the Pokémon would find itself airborne much like a professional skateboarder or dirt biker performing a stunt.[break][break]
THE KEY WAS A MUCH EARLIER BOOST. Kaida Adachi and her ONIX were the only ones to optimally execute the maneuver, carving a trail of dirt, then sparks, along their path with a well-timed ROCK POLISH. A thunderous cheer erupted from the stands as Kaida made up a lot of ground, though she did not advance in position. Others had the right idea but missed on the execution slightly; Eva Morales , Isaac Merlo , and Julia Davis timed bursts of speed from their RAPIDASH, TAUROS, and DODRIO to run out in the middle of running up the ramp, but they were just barely too early, nicking their front left hooves (or in the bird's case, a talon) on the inside of the last corner. Toshiaki Macallan and kyle lopez timed the FLARE BLITZ and EXTREME SPEED from their ARCANINE correctly, but began their turns also early, their front left paws colliding with the early corner. [break][break]
THOSE WHO CHOSE TO USE FINESSE rather than sheer speed were mostly rewarded. MATIAS SILPH and his DODRIO drifted toward the outside before making a shallow turn into the inside of the ramp. The bird's superior grip let the two run across the more shallow grade at the bottom of the curve without even sliding, the Elite Four harshly jostled about during the sharp turns. He had passed everyone in the masterful maneuver, even Razz Kingsman . The Silph Ranger took a similar approach and was rewarded for it, not having to worry about slipping by virtue of his METAGROSS hovering inches above the ground.[break][break]
THE MANECTRIC OF Josh Devlin perfectly executed the sharp curve as well, Alexei Ivanov 's RAPIDASH not far behind, both staying roughly in the center of the track most of the time. It took a small electric discharge from his paws to accelerate sufficiently, but they were through and in great shape, the two of them in the front half of the pack and in an intense battle with Kaida Adachi for 7th place. Alexei Ivanov was fighting a big battle of his own, trying to defend 5th place from Toshiaki Macallan . Elinor Anderson 's STEELIX came up a little short, nicking the far corner but losing only a small amount of time time as a result. If the Steel-type hadn't done Matt Vice and nicodemus unken that favor, the impact of their ARCANINE's paw and GOGOAT's hoof would have been much more severe than it was. [break][break]
Gwyar Wledig AND HIS RAPIDASH had ran nearly a perfect race until now, but on a track so long, every team was bound to make a mistake at some point. A slower Pokémon, at the angle the two took, wouldn't have had enough momentum to make it around the turn, perhaps having to turn around and accelerate up the ramp a second time. The fairy-type equine's raw speed kept the mistake from being race-ending for Gwyar, but the two still gave up a lot of ground, slipping back to fourth place.[break][break]
SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES
WHILE THE BACK HALF of the field was largely unchanged in terms of raw position, it brought many racers closer to one another than they were. The front half of the field was a completely different story; the top seven competitors found themselves sliding down the big ramp in a completely different order than they were in seconds earlier.[break][break]
THERE WAS STILL around half the race left to go. Anything could happen, especially with arguably the nastiest curve on the track to come. Once the racers had landed, avoiding the impact zone Elinor Anderson 's STEELIX had left last lap, a truly nasty curve awaited them: a C-shaped series of 90-degree curves that looked like a bend in a giant pipe system. An accident here could easily send Pokémon and riders to a screeching halt!

LAP 2 - OBSTACLE 2
PROMPT: Shortly after the severely banked turn and a big jump (or slide, for the giant snake Pokémon) to the lower track was the single most wicked turn on the track: a C-bend consisting of four wildly rapid, right angle curves one right after another. Furthermore, the corners of these curves cut well inside the bounds of each stretch before it, making it impossible to run from corner to corner in a straight line. Serious drifting talent or a lot of braking would be needed to avoid flying into the course walls from a sudden and swift impact due to a miscalculated turn! [break][break]

Somehow, the Professor and Rapidash make it through the EGG BOMBS unscathed. Considering how the race has been going, she expected to be blown right off the track! Regardless, they make it through the obstacle, and Eva is incredibly proud of the Rapidash for making it this far. This was, of course, the pokemon’s first race.
