Luka is shaking feathers out of her hair up until the minute her name is called. angelo vestri's flock sure is an...affectionate bunch, to put it kindly! If she were a more vindictive girl she might pelt him with fish and see how he likes it when they start to swarm...[break][break]

But she's not and Angelo lives to see another day.[break][break]

The flock is dispersed by her Vaporeon with a few well timed water guns, and by the time the kerfuffle is over with they don't have long to prepare! So for this round their appeal is simple, but pretty. An understated way to end a fabulous round of competition from everyone involved![break][break]

Luka's swimsuit this time takes direct inspiration from her Gorebyss, evolved from the very same Clampearl she had fished out of the sea not long prior. She likes to think of it as a fitting tribute to the event, though with her own pastel flair. A seashell bikini becomes the obvious choice, though it's gussied up with ribbons and frills and pearls that shine milk-white under the sun.[break][break]

Sheer ribbons undulate behind her, rippling like a mermaid's tail above water. Their rich purple color is reminiscent of her Vaporeon as well, fading into an ombre transparency much like Bella Luna dissolves in water. Drops of seawater join each glistening pearl as Luka emerges from the water like a nymph, an elegant ocean goddess.[break][break]

As she walks, trying her best to maintain an elegant gait while in the water, her Gorebyss and Vaporeon turn flips and dive behind her. Elegant arches of water created by the pair serve to illuminate Luka's path to the shore, each catching the light in a dazzling rainbow before they scatter into harmless droplets and fall back into the sea.[break][break]

Once her toes touch the shore Luka beams and strikes a final pose. Her arms raise dramatically, creating a wide arc before they extend out towards the crowd. Bubbles seem to erupt all around her— provided, of course, by Bella Luna's bubblebeam.[break][break]

The bubbles float amongst the crowd, carried up and away by the wind. And Luka, flushed and happy and bursting with a girlish excitement, blows one last kiss before her turn ends.[break][break]

(Her Clefable is still here as well, hanging out in an innertube in the water behind them. She's still decked out in her little bikini, lest anyone forget who the real contest star is.)[break][break]

this one is kept casual, light, and breeze. greyson walks down the beach casually, his comfey shorts on and a flowered-style hawaiian button up. he waves to the crowds and on-lookers, then snaps his fingers.

a DOZEN COMFEYS descend onto the group carrying a number of floral necklaces. they mew along happily as they greet the men, women and children, dropping their prizes around their necks before moving onto the next.

soon, the entire crowd is a myriad of different colors and floral scents.

at the end of his 'stage', greyson bows, bow hands extended. one-by-one the comfey come to him, wrapping around his arms like frilly, multicolored sleeves.

unfortunately, after the last round, pompeii had protested going back on, wanting to go have lunch instead. bo had heard his wishes, and agreed.

after chowing down on a couple of sandwiches, the duo had made their way back to continue the competition. there was no significant wardrobe change, or intricate performance that they’d planned. they were not going to win this thing, but it’d be fun to finish it out stronger than they’d started.

taking some quick notes from Neffatari Nzingha , bo rode his lumbering heatran as majestically as he could across the edge of the beach. a small heat wave radiated right around them, creating the effect of a sauna, and making his skin glisten. near them, his skarmory flew, angling the sunlight onto him like a photographer’s reflector to get that sexy cologne commercial glow.

did he look hot, or just like some sweaty dude on a weird dog trying to get away from a circling predator? both, maybe?

Rita had been taking a bit of a break from all the chaos that was, well, Hoenn. Meteors, Necrozma attacks, you know the drill. Wild, batshit stuff. It was enough to keep her busy, 24/7.[break][break]

But this swimsuit contest was pretty damn entertaining.[break][break]

The brunette was maybe five margaritas deep now as she watched, enjoying the competition's continuous descent into absurdity, pomp, and ceremony. Some were boring, predictable yawn-fests of 'look at how sexy I am.'[break][break]

But skyler dross got her howling.[break][break]

"Was that forty fucking Wailords?" Rita cackled, jumping up to her feet as her Blaziken turned to her with alarm. "Sweet Arceus. That's incredible. Write that woman's name down, Butch. If she doesn't win, this whole damn thing is rigged." [break][break]

So when the curly-haired woman returned to the stage, Rita stood up with rapturous, drunken applause, putting two fingers to her lips to whistle loudly.[break][break]

Against all expectations, Zev was at the swimsuit contest. When Neffatari Nzingha had texted him that she was the contestant on behalf of the Mossdeep Space Center, he knew he had to be a witness to the show. And he was not disappointed. After four riotous rounds, each one more ridiculous than the last, his phone had a decent number of photos of the astrobiologist, saved to their own dedicated album.[break][break]

For his eyes only, of course.[break][break]

Zev had been about to leave when the contest organizers announced that each participant would walk one final time so that the audience could cheer for their favorites. As each contestant lined up on the mainstage once more, Zev considered his options.[break][break]

One, he could slip away without a word. Surely other people in the audience had adored Nenet's show and would cheer for her. Or two, he could stay and cheer with them.[break][break]

Of the two, the latter seemed like the safer option. It was what a normal guy would do, at any rate.[break][break]

So when the woman took her final run down the catwalk, Zev cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted over the raucous applauce, "Great job, Nenet! You killed it!"[break][break]

Caleb hadn't recognized most of the folks competing in the Slateport Splashfest swimsuit competition (not to mention he'd only been half paying attention, considering the fact that he'd been assigned as security for the ongoing summer event), but when Aurelie Lefevre had emerged from a rather massive Clamperl looking like a goddess of the sea stepping out of the foamy mists of some mythical watery realm, his eyes had been drawn directly to her like a magnet. He'd only met the woman once, during a recent investigation of her forge, but he'd been thoroughly impressed with both her craftsmanship and her integrity. Nomi exclaimed, pointing excitedly to where her friend, Xiura Balfaltin, was traversing the beach in an absolutely adorable sunflower-themed swimsuit with an abundance of sparkling gold accents. The Sylveon at Nomi's side purred softly with approval. Xiura's Vespiquen looked regal and confident as the pair glided past, and Nomi sighed in contentment as a wonderful, tropical scent filled her nose, reminding her of piña coladas and warm summer evenings by the coast. So many beautiful people in equally beautiful swimsuits had performed during the contest, Nomi had barely been able to keep up with all of the impressive displays...but there was something about Xiura's bright and sunny appearance, combined with the smells of relaxation, that made Nomi smile, promising clear skies and happy hearts for the remainder of Splashfest.[break][break]

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Aurelie wasn't exactly drunk at the moment, but she was feeling rather giddy knowing that the Splashfest swimsuit contest was nearly at an end. Though she'd entered the competition for fun and crowns, the various challenges had proven more creatively taxing and stressful than she'd anticipated. It had been a relief to hear that this would be the final round.

That giddiness was a potent enough feeling that, when she saw jack wainwright starting his final walk down the runway, the red-haired smith was overcome with an irresistible desire to try and make him blush with outlandish compliments, much like she had when they'd first met at the Ren-Faire and she'd already had a couple glasses of mead. He looked great already, especially with no shirt on, but she thought he'd look even cuter with a little flush on his cheeks. As other people in the audience started to cheer, she joined in, raising her voice to mingle with the chorus of general approval and admiration.

"Woo! Looking good, Jack!" she called out, applauding enthusiastically. Feeling uninhibited and mischievous, she leaned forward and cupped her hands around her mouth before calling out, "Hey, Jack, do you know CPR, because you just took my breath away!"

Hmmm. That was pretty uninspired. Time to try again. "Or are you an Ampharos shining in a non-modernized lighthouse? Because you're really lighting up our day!"

A laugh bubbled up from her lips. "Oooh! Better yet, are you a massive meteoroid hurling through space to crash into Hoenn? Because when I see you, the world just disappears!" She grinned, feeling particularly satisfied with that combination of cheesiness and current events.

Was it heckling? Was it cheering? Or was it somewhere in between? Aurelie wasn't really sure, any more than she could tell whether Jack would ultimately be amused, annoyed, or just indifferent to her dorky compliments, more whimsical than witty. But it was funny to her, and that was fun enough for now.

My goodness, Martín del Mar sure was dramatic. And yet, Seraphine couldn't really fault the banker for leaning into his connection to money to win over the crowd. After all, what better way to promote your financial business venture than to literally shower people with golden coins? She had to admit, it was a brilliant advertising play. He definitely knows what he's about, she mused. But honestly, three groups of waterskiing Meowth had been a bit much, and Seraphine couldn't help but roll her eyes as the entire gaggle of them bounced excitedly around Martín on the sands after their little show, like some bizarre feline cult.[break][break]
"Were you that silly once?" The artist inquired of her Persian, Bijou, who was keeping her company while she watched the swimsuit contest from a little ways off from the crowd. The big cat merely yawned in a bored fashion, clearly unimpressed with Martín's little minions. Seraphine chuckled at her indifference. "Well, we might as well cheer him on. He's our boss, after all." And she absolutely wanted to stay in his good graces: climbing the Rocket ladder was far more doable with a man of his power and prestige as her sponsor and ally.[break][break]
Clearing her throat, she called out loudly: "A truly fantastic display by the POG Bank CEO! Now let's see you close this thing out, Martín!" He caught her eye for half a second and she winked, expression smug. See? I've got my own little marketing schemes, darling.[break][break]

Lia has taken part in competitions ever since she was a kid, but even if that’s the case, she’s sure she could never participate in a contest like this. Getting people’s attention because of her skills is one thing, and getting people’s attention because of her appearance is something completely different.

That’s not the reason why she had made her way to Slateport Beach on this day out of all days, though.

Because, see, a swimsuit contest may not be her thing, but it sure seems to have caught the attention of more than a few of her friends and acquaintances. PENELOPE LIVY had only been there for a round or two, busy as she is, but of course Lia had smiled when seeing her sister from amongst the crowd. She had laughed at angelo vestri’s antics and even recorded a video of his Wingull flock’s attack, which was later sent to him with a simple ’nice.’ She had cheered for skyler dross. She had clapped for luka chêne, Raziel Beckett, Elisabeth Fiorelli, and Cade Atreides despite barely knowing them, and hell, even for DEREK HOFFMAN, who she still kind of hates.

However, when @marshall had first taken to the stage, she had been silent at first, because she had not expected to see him here today. It had been like getting to meet a completely different part of him, but also not really. Since, despite the fact that he somehow seems completely comfortable with modelling, Marshall is still Marshall, and Lia is starting to realise that he’s apparently capable of adding his own personal touch to everything he does.

It had made her smile just as much as it had made her laugh in disbelief, and when the final round comes and the organisers ask for the audience to cheer for their favourite contestants when they take to the stage one final time, it’s without a second thought that she finds herself speaking up:

It was an unfortunate truth that all good things come to an end, and that included the Splashfest swimsuit contest. Marshall had not had that much fun off a motocross bike ever since his arrival at Hoenn. He was sorry to see its end, but at the same time, he was grateful for the experience. Even if he didn't win, he'd had a blast participating and seeing everyone's performances.[break][break]

In line with the other contestants, he reached out and gave his friend jack wainwright a congratulatory fistbump as the other man finished his final walk. "We should hang out more, dude. You're pretty cool," Marshall told him.[break][break]

When it was Marshall's turn, he simply strutted down the catwalk in his original outfit, the brightly colored swim trunks and flower garland. A familiar voice shouted at him as he passed; glancing to the left, he spotted Amelia Livy among the crowd.[break][break]

"Marshall! Keep it up, hot stuff!"[break][break]

And then she winked.[break][break]

Though the redhead did not break his stride or swagger, he couldn't help the deep blush that colored his cheeks and ears at Lia's encouragement. Despite it, he grinned even wider and reached the end of the runway with an extra bounce in his step. He whipped the flower garland off his neck and tossed it into the crowd with a flourish of finality, then turned and headed back down the catwalk.

SWIMSUIT CONTEST (SPLASHFEST)

Johanna had been watching the swimsuit contest. Not because she was particularly interested in seeing people in swimsuits, but because she had heard rumors that a particular Rock star would participate.

To be honest, most of the competition had been rather dull, disappointing even. Some hadn’t grabbed her attention at all, and other people like Elinor Anderson had simply tried too hard to the point where it became distasteful. And she’s supposed to be a member of the council. Johanna didn’t see a bright future for Hoenn if that was the case.

Luckily Callan Young was doing a much better job, keeping his acts simple and tasteful, save for the sudden ketchup fetishism he displayed to the audience during one of the later rounds. But nobody was perfect, and to be honest of all the contestants here, she figured he ought to win. And no it wasn’t because she was biased or anything. Her hands clutched onto the newly bought beach towel with the cover art of one of the Teravolt albums spread over it.

Okay, maybe a bit biased. Their music had grown on her.

And so came the audience round, where people would cheer as their favorite contestants took to the scene. Johanna would do her part by jumping up from her seat, with both hands she unfurled the towel and displayed it proudly for all to see as she yelled with great fervor “CALLAN CALLAN CALLAN!”
