THE CAPACITY CROWD at Mauville Gym's Racing Grounds was nothing short of amped up to see which of the fifteen top Gold Class racers would punch their tickets to the pros, and which one would be crowned the fastest in Hoenn. While there were some clear crowd favorites, such as Gym Leader Alexei Ivanov , Gym Leader Josh Devlin , Eva Morales , and high profile League officials such as Elinor Anderson and MATIAS SILPH , the fifteen racers were competitive enough that this was anyone's race to win. Every single Pokémon was impressive-looking, regardless of where they were on the starting grid. Trash talk was abundant among the fifteen racers, particularly Matt Vice and kyle lopez . It seemed like much of the competition knew each other from outside the racing circuit. Toshiaki Macallan scrambled to the back of his Hisuian Arcanine, nearly missing his cue to mount up![break][break]
RAUCOUS APPLAUSE echoed from the seats as the fifteen Pokémon let the racers aboard, each one ready to instruct their Pokémon to start running the moment the green prompt from the starting arch instructed them to. Combined viewership and TV ratings soared well into the six figures from TERAVOLT star Callan Young 's performance of the Hoenn Regional Anthem alone, and it showed no signs of climbing as the start of the race was moments away.[break][break]
ALL FIFTEEN RACERS' attention was on the digital above the starting arch, that being their signal. They would also get aural warnings accompanying the final countdown, as well. Fifteen seconds to the green flag, FERNANDO SILPH 's voice burst across the facility's loudspeakers: "Battle routine set!" A standard of Slateport City's Gym, though it was still appropriate for the contest at hand. This would simply be a battle of speed rather than a battle of strength.[break][break]
A LOUD SQUAWK blared from the arch's speakers at T minus ten seconds, and several other speakers throughout the facility, prompting the racers to be ready. Three images of an artist's depiction of the legendary Pokémon Raikou, at full sprint, appeared on the arch's display, superimposed over an orange-colored "GET READY" prompt. Another squawk at T minus three seconds as the third image from the left began to fade. Another at T minus two as the middle image faded. A third as the final one faded. A higher-pitched squawk nearly drowned out the Silph CEO's cry, "Execute!" as the final image faded, the MC waving the green flag and the prompt changing to "GO".[break][break]

PROMPT: The MULTIPLEX's opening stretch was filled with small hills, their crests and troughs testing the balance of both Pokémon and racer as they tried to get up to speed. The shallow turns accompanying them were not too difficult to navigate, but combining both aspects set the stage for just how tough the championship course was. The course's difficulty further ramped up on its first series of sharp turns; turns three and four were rapid-fire 90 degree curves, the first a left, and the following one a right no more than a single second later.[break][break]

The beat of Eva’s own heart quickened as the loud ticks of the countdown began. She mounted the Rapidash with ease, pulling hard on the reins to steady the excited beast, “Eeeeasy, Hestia, easy,” she spoke softly, settling into the saddle. The equine beneath her tensed, steel hooves dancing in place as the agitated sprinter was eager to get started. They weren’t too high in the pecking order which was perfect – Rapidash always worked harder when they were something to chase.
