A SWARM OF PALOSSAND HAVE RUSHED ONTO ROUTE 123. They've moved from the coast that faces Sootopolis City and have scattered inland. Although speculation for this behaviour may range from temperature changes in the water to invasive species, those in the higher echelons of the League's security clearances surmise their sudden migration to be caused by KYOGRE'S erratic swimming cycles...

Palossand, all the way out here? "Now that's interesting..." They're much further inland than Cain has ever seen before. Were they driven out of their homes? Or looking for somewhere new to live? But what had happened to their previous habitat?[break][break]

Cain quietly considers this: Palossand are known to inhabit beaches, or places with lots of sand, at the very least. The forms they choose are a result of their ghostly power influencing the people around them, and weaker beings have fallen prey to their soul-sucking powers before. Afraid of water as they are, they still tolerate living near the ocean, so are they also willing to brave the cold? Would they live in icy beaches, too, if given the chance? [break][break]

Catching one of these roaming pokemon would certainly make studying it a whole lot easier. And yet... "Let's scare them off." Maybe he'll lose his chance to study them up close by doing this, but there's value in battling, too. Plus, Palossand aren't known for being kind creatures, so it's better to deal with them now while he still has the chance. [break][break]

Chantilly's blizzard and Horizon's night slash do a good job of scaring away the palossands that are closest to Cain — the ground frosting over in his frosmoth's wake, his absol's pawprints imprinted in the chilled ground. He takes pictures of retreating palossands using his rotom phone, and simply hopes that the sand castle pokemon can return to their original homes at the end of the day. [break][break]

The Palossand and Sandyghast appeared to have moved from Sootopolis City to the icy ground. While she can’t go near Sootopolis due to being near Rocket territory, the ground and ghost type Pokemon were heavily displaced by the temperature changes in the water. It was probably the reason why they left the habitat to get here. Elise believes that the Sea Basin Pokemon might be to blame for the Palossand and Sandyghast to move somewhere that isn’t their natural habitat.[break][break]

Their appearance does call to mind of the several other palaces of Hammerlocke, specifically the Calcifet Palace that the Queen of Galar does her ruling. When Elise gets approached by one of the castle-like ghosts, they would look up at the ambassador a little curiously. “We’re here to help you relocate.” She says with a nod over to the Sandyghast and Palossand that approach her while Charles, Mana, and Grimhild float nearby.[break][break]

It takes a bit for the ambassador and her trio of shard Calyrex, Mismagius, and Flutter Mane to help the wild ghost types relocate. Some of them were a bit grumpy on having to move again, but she’s able to calm them down due to being an expert on their care. Along with helping to move one of them, one of the creatures would allow her to catch them as Elise tosses a Dusk Ball over at the sandy palatial Pokemon.[break][break]

Eddie didn't really get people who didn't like sand. [break][break]

Sure, it was coarse and irritating and it got everywhere after a long day at the beach, but wasn't that part of the fun? It was like you got to take a little bit of your vacation home with you! And besides, it sure as hell beat the muddy shoreline of a lake or the rocky coastlines Eddie had seen in pictures of Galar. [break][break]

But on the other hand, there was definitely such a thing as too much sand, made evident by the fact that Palossand crowding Route 123 were kicking the stuff up everywhere, [break][break]

“You, uh- you guys lost?” [break][break]

Eddie watched as the living sand castles shimmied their way along the route, and only one bothered to turn and acknowledge his mostly rhetorical question. The Pokemon, in reply, shot a bit of sand at his face, aiming directly for his eyes, [break][break]

“Argh!” [break][break]

Okay, yeah, no, he had to do something about this. The Empoleon at his side was apparently in agreement, because Tiberius rushed forward with an indignant squawk, throwing his body into a powerful WAVE CRASH, [break][break]

“You get 'em, bud!” Eddie cheered, even as he carefully tried to wipe the sand out of his eyes. [break][break]

Wait, no, touching his eyes just made it hurt worse. Maybe once the Empoleon was done cleaning up the beach, he could help tend to his trainer's current predicament. [break][break]

The once calm sandy beaches around route 123 had turned into a field of angry Sand Castles that poked up from the ground and burried themselves beneath the surface, only to pop up for unsuspecting victims. It was almost like a minefield, save for the blowing up portion, but that didn't make it any less dangerous in the sheer volume that all of the Palossand had shown up.[break][break]
It was best to try to get them to start heading back into the water, that way they could disperse back into the waves and possibly break up the massive gathering of them, so Yuina and Daikenki worked with a seamitar each, moving to push the sand castles back into the ocean's depths.

Summer was approaching fast.

Robin took advantage with a beach day. Chasing ocean waves was her favorite, but there was so much wet sand on the coast because of the receded tide that she absolutely had to make the most of it. She kneeled down. Her knees made divots in the sand as she started to scoop up her materials like it was clay. She quickly made a huge mound, then began to flatten it and shape it into a cube. She then scooped out the middle to put excess on the four corners of the cube, creating towers for her sand castle that looked a little Galarian in nature.

Invested in her project, she didn't notice the series of Palossand behind her, watching with intrigue.

Some of Aaron's pokemon liked making sand castles. But he only had one literal sand castle Pokemon. Now the opportunity to add another came with a swarm. According to the Rangers, due to Kyogre. He couldn't help but wonder when one side or the other try their hand at taming the legendary. But he wasn't interested in it. His focus was on the Sandyghast and Palossand swarm. With Jelliscent out, he started to clear out and scare the Pokemon over to those that were better suited to actually relocate the group. It still seemed odd to him that so many moved to this area...

Sailor approached the area where the reported Palossand had gathered and began to collect intel. They recorded pictures and video while keeping (what they had assumed to be) a safe distance. Their Pokémon, as well, were warned not to venture away.[break][break]
"Hm, so they're like those things... sandcastles...?" Sai murmured -- they had never personally played on a beach or built a sandcastle before. It seemed frivolous and pointless, definitely not an activity their parents would approve of.[break][break]
They venture closer and notice a girl nearby, which caused Sai to lower their phone for a second, "Oh. Hello." She was familiar but at the moment, Sailor couldn't place her. Maybe it would come to them later.[break][break]
Instead, they went back to watching the Palossand and, maybe, just maybe, chancing their arm at trying to catch one.[break][break]

Cass is, as ever, found at the location where a swarm could be found - and this time, it's a Palossand one! She lets Jon, Pic and Martin out of their balls to play in the beach at their leisure, but keeps a close eye on them should any of the ground pokémon prove to be hostile after all.

It seems like Pic has the time of his life exploring the concept of sand, while Jon's trying and figuring out if he likes the taste. Martin is slightly judging both of them, but sticks close with a look of fond exasperation - yeah, she knows that feeling too well. "Hey, be careful! There's a lot of Palossand, so maybe the sand castles aren't actually ones!" she shouts to her pokémon, who all give her the O.K.

At least Martin's with them ...

She also notices someone else, and nods at them with a slight frown as she tries to remember ... but then again. "Oh, hello!" she replies with recognition then, nodding. After all, it's, well, , and it's really hard not to know that name. "Also here to see what the swarm's about?" she asks them, striking a bit of smalltalk, before, inevitably, her pokémon would get into trouble.

It's the very same pokémon that Pic and Jon manage to anger at the same time. Jon takes another bite of sand, while Pic's trying to shape some sand to his vision. But the sand moves. "Oh fu-" she swears, and then quickly gets out a pokéball - ... okay, she could've commanded Martin, but. She also definitely kind of wants to try and catch one.

"no way!" gracie mae screamed at the sight of the sand castles. at first, she was perplexed by the trails of sand covering the ground and paths. curiosity had gotten the best of her. naturally, she followed in tow with annie mae. it soon became evident by the sounds of voices, humans and pokemon alike, that trouble was amok.[break][break]

there simply was sand everywhere. in the midst of the palossand and their chaos, gracie mae could not help but find herself a quieter spot on the outskirts of the mayhem and battles. those who saw her must have thought her crazy for taking the time to build a sand castle out of the leftover sand. annie mae nervously kept guard.[break][break]

"there," the breeder announced when she had finished her structure. it was limp, barely holding up with its two towers and dome-like castle. a small leaf poked up at the top in place of a flag. "anyways," she said, heaving onto her feet with sand particles at her knees and hands. she wiped the grains away. "let's help these good folks out, annie mae!"[break][break]

finally, the miltank probably thought.[break][break]

gracie mae procured herself a pokeball and happily sent it out. "push them back with a POWDER SNOW, manny!" she instructed.[break][break]

her swinub made its appearance from the ball and gave an energetic snort. after inhaling deeply, he purged a frost-covered wind from the depths of his nostrils. a seemingly unending draft of cold covered the palossand in its reach, causing them to shiver and retreat.[break][break]

"keep it up!" both gracie and annie cheered manny on.[break][break]

Touring Hoenn with Anna was his attempt at making up for all the time he spent at work, work he couldn’t really tell his smaller sister about. The tour had taken them to Route 123 this time. And what was supposed to just have been some relaxing exploration quickly turned a sea of angry SAND CASTLES descending on them.

Of course Gerald was annoyed by this turn of events, but Anna loved it. The soon to be ten year old was ever eager to throw her Petilil at the issue.

Unfortunately the Palossands did not mind making a meal of the child. Gerald wasn’t about to let that happen.

And so he spoke. “You aren’t quite ready for this sort of battle, Anna.” he gently ruffled her hair before stepping in between his sister, her Pokemon and the approaching Palossands. Moments later a huge Aurorus manifested alongside an ICE WIND that covered all the hostile Palossands targeting them.

Before Gerald knew it Anna had thrown a Pokéball in their general direction, perhaps she could capture one.

Howard hated sand, he hated the ocean, and he hated his life.

An unfortunate combination when trying to find the keys to his condo after getting lost in the sand. The admin had gone out for a quick walk on the beach. claimed it was a really cool way to impress people. It made you look deep, introspective, and thoughtful, allegedly.

Plus there were dozens of Kabuto fossils on this beach, so who was Howard to complain? Win-win situation.

Except for the sand. Sand sucked. Fuck sand.

"This sucks. I fucking hate sand." Howard whined as he dug around in the shoals in a desperate attempt to find his keys. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. After a moment, Howard blinked. "I've got it!"

Reaching for his belt, Howard threw out his Probopass. Ayer's Magnet Pull immediately triggered, resulting in every piece of metal on the beach being drawn in. Engagement rings, bracelets, keys, and even a credit card with a magnetic strip attached itself to the Probopass's massive nose.

"Nice." Howard pumped his fist. "I'm so fucking smart! It's all coming up Howard, baby!"

That wouldn't remain that way for long as a massive sandcastle manifested behind the archaeologist. He frowned as he turned back to it.

"What the-"

"Aye, mateys, put your backs into it! We're trying to make a sand ship not a sand slide!" Captain Walter roared as he pushed hi back against mounds of falling sand.

"Yo ho!" the crew yelled! Every human and Pokemon was putting their all into making the magnificent sand ship. Aipom grabbed sand with his paws and patted it down with his tail. Murkrow scoured over the beach hunting for shiny shells and sea glass to adorn the sandy hull. Wattrel pecked out small details like a fine Paldean artist. Tauros used blasts of water to wet the sand down. The crew moved as if they were in a sea storm. Marcos, Gino, and Afonso helped Aipom with the building and patting.

After several hours, the crew stepped back to witness their creation; a 2 meter pirate ship made completely out of sand, shells, and sea glass.

"Good work, mateys! Drinks are on me tonight!"

Suddenly, the ship began to shake. The ship exploded and reformed into a ghastly Pokemon.

"Avast, mateys! Our hull has been blown! Prepare for battle!"
