OK, she wasn't even nailing the easy tricks now. It was time to full send on the most difficult of them all, then. She had seen several kids pull it off. If she tried enough times, eventually she would hit it, right? She thought that was how probability worked. She took a deep breath and imagined herself pulling off the splash. If she manifested, it would happen. It would just take a bit of trial and error to pull off.

A success! The third in a row, signaling a turn of good luck for "Hideo". But if they wanted to reap all the rewards (and entertainment) from this sport, they had to work just a bit harder - and the crowd was certainly cheering them on.

Even the Ditto by the real Hideo's side was cheering them on, Hideo lowering the hat he wore to keep the ruse intact.

The second attempt is a failure. The third turn is off-tempo and too fast. The momentum tears the handles from her suddenly numb hands. A rope hisses angrily across open palms as she tries to regain her footing. It leaves angry marks on her palms. As she splashes into the surf, the soldier is already analyzing the failure. Her teeth grit together in frustration as she kicks toward the surface.

Her blue eyes meet the Mantine’s black ones. “I believe zat was my fault.” The manta ray fights back a snicker. “Are you ready to try again?” With eyes full of determination, the water type nodded.

Another failed magikarp splash attempt later brought the colonel to his girlfriend's feet once again, his face down on the water, numerous bubbles popping around him.

He rolled onto his back, spitting salt water.

"Alrighty, no more mr. funny man." He declared, snapping his fingers at his Mantine as if to call it.

It continued to do lazy wheelies around him instead, but Doug nonetheless pretended everything went as planned the moment it got too close, throwing a leg and subsequently the rest of his body on top of the water-type.

"Twice now you've told me to ask Lele for help, and that's twice too many." He declared, shaking his digit at Yuina. "It's time for me to lock in and leave you in the dust, love. Nothing personal, just how things must be."
