A CLIMB TO THE END

A MOMENT’S GLANCE SERVES AS A CLUE. But without further context, Fernando is unable to put one and one together. The presence of the Unown is as fleeting as their time period. When Hoenn reverts to the past so to does his memory of the Pokemon’s enigmatic appearance–stored in the recess of his mind, allowing his attention to sift between the numerous events transpiring around them.

“Divert,” a swift command delivered at the advent of a horde. An accompanying tug of the harness gets the Heatran to swing adjacent to the Archeops as Fernando looks their way.

The stitch in time and reach of his MISTY TERRAIN should prove cover enough. Should anyone catch sight and inquire further, he’ll use the sudden distortion as a suitable excuse.

A sudden expulsion of fog comes from Fernando’s person. It rides off the curtail of his movements and sits unclaimed like unaccounted flatulence. On Mount Chimney, it looks no more strange than a sudden reprisal of soot or ash from a geothermal vent. But as the wind and stampeding movements usher the mist in so too will the wild Pokemon feel their effects.

fernando can also expel a fog that causes affected targets to enter a BERSERK TRANCE. this can be used to tunnel their aggression onto a particular target. in roll-based events, characters who are in this fog roll with disadvantage (take the lower of two rolls). spread of the fog is determined by the moderator.

To shepherd them out of the way is a fool’s errand. Detouring around them will prove too cumbersome. The only solution is to get them to move to their own accord. And, should his abilities prove as potent here as they do elsewhere, these Archeops will find their instincts rewired to rush immediate to the peak and confront the offending Groudon.

They may die–and most will–but it’s a sacrifice Fernando makes without hesitation.

Everything was going well Draco was breezing past the spikes of molten earth as they exploded around them, it was just a hairsbreath each movement, his Dragonite in control, and focused on the task at hand. They were both focused on their objective of reaching that orb of solar energy in the sky. Perhaps that hyperfocus is what got them caught them as a roar of pain echoed out of Draco's maw, and they shot higher up into the air, as they thrown further up. Thankfully Draco's thick scales protected him preventing him from being knocked out, and not taking a life threatening injury, but it was still a harrowing experience. Draco righted himself in the air catching his breath for a moment, and Amor looked down noting what was happening below him as some of the others hadn't been as fortunate as him. Below him was a chaos that he didn't understand, the past, and present were melding into one? What was going on, shouldn't there be a God of Time preventing such things from happening? Was he sleeping?

In front of him was a wall of flying fossilized Pokemon, and he just sighed his head. This region made no sense, but he had no time to think. Unclipping two Pokeballs from his belt he unleashed the two Pokemon held within them. A Dragapult, and a Gallade that was now sitting behind him on Draco.

"Draco take it easy, use Roost, and fly at a normal speed ahead while you recover! Belus use Future Sight to guide us through that wall of birds,and to that sun! Zahak use Phantom Force to get to the sun, and ready to attack it!" One command was given after another without rest. Zahak was the first to take action as he slipped into the shadowy space between dimensions, and moved as fast as he possibly could to get closer to that sun in preparation for whatever his trainer had planned. Hoping that he was able to appear on the other side of that massive wall, and next to that sun was all that he needed.

Belus on the other took the reins of Draco so to speak as he peered into the future trying to glimpse the best of course for them to take, and at the same time a light blue aura flared around Draco as he healed himself up, and began to move forward at a moderate pace, listening to the directions of Belus. Hopefully this would all work out as he intended, but if it didn't then he would just have to adapt again, and overcome as he always did.

Battle Breakdown: Dragonite was gut punched by a spike!
Dragonite used Roost to heal up, and is now moving towards the wall of Archeops!
Dragapult used Phantom Force to attempt to bypass the wall entirely, and appear closer to the artificial sun!
Belus is using Future Sight to peer into the future and guide Dragonite, and Amor through the wall of Archeops!

The mission began in earnest. The gathering of 21 splintered immediately. He suspected that Groudon would be a much bigger threat, and that was made VERY clear with his foray into the cave. It felt like being inside an artery. Now, that comparison was made all the more relevant. The ground rumbled. It was as if the heart of the mountain was racing.

Every movement of Groudon made the rock rumble, and send spikes through the ceiling of the cave. The two were sent flying, with Giona eventually landing on Sableye, who he then withdrew to protect it from further harm. The group was faced with a new threat: some kind of rock with a dragon’s skull on it. Giona clenched his teeth and sucked air past them with discomfort. Once again, a large scale threat would turn into him blustering and stalling while the actual mission went down.

Huntail was called out with another red beam, faced with this new threat. It coiled and sat on the hot rocks like a rattlesnake. With a whistle from Giona, it pounced. Huntail used Ice Fang to try to attack Regidrago. Giona then turned back to face the cave group. “We have more important things going on than this. I’ll need one more person to contain this at the most. The rest of you should try to go deeper, lead by the guy with the Steelix.”

Giona’s own heart raced. It felt like time stood still, as Huntail tried to attack the creature in the dragon pelt.. ByBlf8Vb

upon fully forming from the ivory light, autumn turns her nose upwards at the situation. she's quick on the uptake, however, and upon noticing the tense atmosphere, immediately understands this must be serious. ahead of them, the gondola erupts in flames and destruction before being sent hurtling to the surface below. greyson only tenses further.

he had little idea what had become of @giselle , who decided to climb atop the roof of their gondola. he hoped she was alright, but now covered in the billowing smoke cloud, and surrounded by explosions, he had little choice but to focus on his own safety.

the comfey releases a small cloud around her, the AROMATHERAPY working to heal any potential wounds as well as clean, and clear the air of any dangerous toxins, smokes, ash, or debris. it did little to pulse outwards from their gondola, unfortunately, leaving them still probing further into the thick plume of smoke.

as they break through to the other side... he gasps audibly. the world around them had changed, reminiscent of something he'd seen in Land Before Time. violet orbs widen into plates upon the realization their gondola would not survive very long; whatever track, or system having not followed them into their reality shift.

Hearing a rapidly-approaching Ruby Walker scold him allayed Hideo's fear over her safety. He was glad she got out of that fine.

And in Hideo's defense, Andy had been the one that made that call. Hideo was pretty much taken for the ride - though his Gardevoir would have done the same herself if she had the chance.

Still, he spoke. "Sorry 'bout that!" he shouted to her, "It was kind of a last-second thing!"

There wasn't much time to discuss it, though, as his Gardevoir informed him of the urgency of their current situation: a few people were falling from the air, the gondola after them was also at risk, there were rocks falling toward them, and something was changing the terrain to a...jungle?

Last one might have been a misunderstanding. But those first three had Hideo's attention, and he was quick to act.

He took out two Pokeballs, letting out his Beheeyem and his Ariados. Hideo didn't even give them the chance to fully understand what was going on before ordering them (thankfully, his Gardevoir Telepathically filled them in): "Squeeze, make a net for the people to fall on! Make sure it isn't sticky! Elga, you and Dancer keep us safe!"

His Ariados spewed a ball of web from her mouth, the ball quickly exploding into a web thick enough to hold the few fallers and their Pokemon - and stretchy enough to make their impact a soft one.

Meanwhile, his Beheeyem and Gardevoir were breaking up the falling rocks; his Beheeyem grabbed one Psychically and used it to push away other rocks, while the Gardevoir's shadow extended up, her Shadow Sneak pushing away and breaking the rocks following towards Hideo and Andy Blackadder .

Hideo lets out his Beheeyem and Ariados
Ariados sets up a (non-sticky) Spider Web to help break people's falls
Beheeyem uses Psychic to use a rock to break some other rocks falling towards him and Andy Blackadder
Gardevoir uses Shadow Sneak to also help break rocks

Andy well knew that the pokemon was one of his friend's main players. With a leafy green aura, the trevenant counter-intuitively cursed the gardeovir with forest's curse, providing it with a grass type aspect to its attacks. This was the third time he had encountered groudon after all. Granted, the first time, it had been an ally.

After the ringing in her ears fades, her first thought is of MATIAS SILPH . She spins, frantically searching for him. Eventually she finds the shadow of Ash against the smoke with a rider firmly in pace. The panic settles . . . but something still isn’t right.

Eva turns, glancing behind her just in time to see another explosion take out Stormy Silph and another flyer. The rider that separates from the Yanmega is . . . small. A child? What the hell is a child doing up here?!

Moltres is well, and no doubt diving to catch its avatar. Yanmega, on the other hand, seems wounded and is falling limply through the sky. A firm pressure turns the dragon around on a dime, “FLY!” The Salamence jumps forward with powerful beat of its wings. It angles towards the small shadow tumbling through the air. They’re still so far, “Mehira,” she urges the dragon forward, pushing her harder. Gravity, a TAILWIND and strong thrusts of her wings top out her speed. The sheer force of the wind threatens to tear Eva right off the saddle. She bends low, holding on for dear life along with the Gardevoir clinging to her.

It’s still not enough to catch her.

“Catch her,” the ground fast approaches, but she doesn’t give the command to let up so Mehira doesn’t. It’s Adele that reaches out, expanding her influence towards the child. There’s a flash of violet energy that encases her and fight gravity to lay her gently down.

Eva barely notices the change. Instead of rocky terrain, they barrel towards a lush green mountainside. The dragon’s wings suddenly expand and flap furiously to fight their inevitable crash landing into the trees.

tl;dr: Eva’s Cool-Auntie-Sense tingles and she sees Eris Halla falling from the sky (she doesn’t know it’s her). Mehira uses FLY in combo with the TAILWIND and gravity to dive towards the falling child. She’s afraid they won’t get there in time, so she has Adele use PSYCHIC to slow her fall and let her land gently on the grassy jungle ground. Mehira tries to avoid a crash landing. There are Archeops around, I'm sure, but she's too distracted to notice.

He’s probably too calm in the situation but that’s all artificial. Panic was simmering just beneath the surface and stress was forming a knot in his shoulder. Gelato was still dumbstruck still recovering from his brief venture outside the window. Not that it matters as smoke and ash promptly filled the gondola again with people opening the windows constantly, even one person managing to open the door. “Oh! Marzipan!” he said abruptly as a notification came on his stream. “Huh..look behind-” All the brainwashing mist in the world couldn’t control the surge of adrenaline that shot through his heart as they passed through a smoke cloud to the great past. Cacio was already on the move and began glowing with a Magnet Rise before floating off the ground. “Nice Cacio, at least you won’t die today.” He said with a nod and a tired grin. Gelato was tucked into his armpit shivering despite the encroaching heat. “Gelato? I need like…like a tube kinda thing. Like a slide baby. Just shoot me towards that spider web.” Mint explained as his pokemon nodded while Cacio floated under Mint’s arm. “Thanks Cacio, we’ll see how long I can grip onto you.” He added with a laugh. Gelato trembled but dutifully opened his mouth to create yet another Ice Beam in an attempt to create something Mint could slide down and shoot himself at the web. “OKOK, before I do- anyone wanna admit they got a crush on me??” With that, his phone immediately began blasting the most inappropriate track. Mint clenched his jaw before hopping out, his weight and Gelato’s immediately tugging on Cacio as the electric type struggled to float while weighed down with his trainer. From this height, butt cold as he slid downwards, and out of the range of the mist Mint let out a terrified scream. He was never riding a fucking gondola again.

Flying too close to the sun is bound to get you burnt. Despite the winds guiding them, the hunger of the explosions still manage to catch up. In those few moments as she feels the heat of the blast searing her skin, a word briefly flashes through her mind -

As they're knocked clean out of the sky, her attention goes straight to the stunned Yanmega, hands struggling against the ashy winds as she attempts to reach for his pokeball. And she succeeds, recalling him and holding it close to her chest as gravity pulls on her.

Who does she call upon to help her? She's wracking her brain for ideas but there are simply too many thoughts for her to focus. She can feel herself breathing in for a scream but nothing slips from her lips.

With the smoke beginning to clear substantially enough thanks to his Weezing, Derek returns the pokemon before averting his gaze to the flock of Archeops left behind by stranger Matias Silph.

The first of two pokeballs to be let loose brings forth his Sobble, Jonesy, who takes his place on Derek's shoulder. As they draw closer on their path towards the top of Mt. Chimney, Jonesy prepares his Water Gun for the first one that flies just a little too close.

The second pokemon, whose entrance proved trickier, would be Rasputin. The pokeball would be tossed up over the collective of prehistoric avians, soaring down in a calculated effort to deliver a most dreadful Meteor Mash. It's plummet to ground level wasn't graceful by any means, but whatever was pinned between it's arms and the mountain below surely would not be getting back up to bother them.

After the chaos of the blades shooting everywhere, it seemed for a moment like they could get a break. And then time went haywire.[break][break]
"What?" exclaimed Cardamom, glancing around at the tears in the world as ancient Pokemon seemed to rise again. "What...what's causing this?" She was pretty sure time manipulation was not one of Groudon's inherent powers! Of course, she had little time to ponder the specific details, as the Archeops flock came charging towards them, combined with the several near-crashes around them. It seemed like the others had that handled, at least, and Banana Bread was less suited towards helping with a soft landing like that. Still, she hesitated for a moment, wondering whether she could still contribute something to help.[break][break]
However, a squawk from a nearby Archeops made that decision for her. "Whirlwind again! Keep going forward!" she called, and Banana Bread dutifully sent another spiraling wind towards any Archeops that might get too close, sending them flying far away from the group. His wings spread wide, his Chlorophyll absorbing the sunlight to drive him onwards faster. Nash's eyes were already glowing a bright pink as he started watching the path ahead even more closely with his Future Sight, ready to call out a warning if any Archeops suddenly came charging their way.[break][break]
tl; dr: Banana Bread uses Whirlwind some more, this time to blow away the Archeops, also uses the sun to fuel his Chlorophyll ability. Nash uses Future Sight to watch out for any sudden ambushes.[break][break]

Oh! Even at a distance, he recognized Stormy Silph from all that merch at the tournament. Wasn’t she one of the Elite Four or something? She would be fine, right? He didn’t know her, but she seemed like she would, and if Moltres and her were besties, surely the legendary would grab her or something, right?!

The bigger problem was the sudden Archeops-nado coming their way, Vic initially being too preoccupied with looking at the damn birds to notice how much things had changed around them. Reacting fast, a pokéball was thrown in the air, Dragapult soon floating above the Dragonite. ”Try to slow the Archeops down! Make a path!” He instructed, and the Dragapult did as asked, intercepting the Archeops ahead with Phantom Force and following that up with Dragon Darts.

He needed his Dragonite to focus on flying, so Dragapult would handle the attacking.

”Let’s speed this up, Pez! We gotta get up there!” Making use of both the path created by the other dragon and the persisting Tailwind, the Dragonite dashed forwards and up the mountain, throwing electrified punches at any bird that got in his way and heading for the strange sun up above. It looked like that thing was making everything around them all wonky, so dealing with it was probably smart...

Plus, one guy was going up there alone, and to Vic, that just didn’t seem right! Rangers were supposed to help people, so how could he let this guy go all ‘let’s punch the sun’ or whatever all on his own? Nah, he was going to get some back-up!

the sudden eruption would cause lucario to take hold of whimsicott and zenji. attempting to break their fall by protecting the both of them. after all, he was the most durable between the human and grass-type. as zenji stood to take notice of the newcomer. the ranger, so he assumed for them to be, took the challenge to stay behind and face regidrago.

"that's the pokemon..." there was no time to show concern for something trivial. zenji would nod toward the brave ranger (giona ferrara ). though, to be clear, he wasn't a ranger. zenji had no idea who the individual happened to be. he just assumed. regardless, he would say, "if you die i'm gonna make sure your pay is docked tenfold."

for a smart man he sure has his braindead moments.

"let's go!" with his computer in hand and backpack in tow. zenji continued to move forward. "for that pokemon to be here is no coincidence. it must be after what we came here for. we need to find it." zenji spoke aloud toward his pokemon. "lucario, can you DETECT anything?"

Another gondola goes down, and the blonde winces. But all he can do is try to ensure the survival of those in the car with him. But just when it seems they might make it, everything changes.

"What..."

It was just as it had been during the time loop he had been stuck in before. Except this was very real. Pokemon that should not be this plentiful roamed and flew in a world he did not know. He didn't understand this, any of this. But he didn't have much time to consider it either. For the gondola would suddenly be struck by Groudon, and begin to teeter. And then it stopped entirely.

And considering his recent observation, it didn't take long for Josh to understand why. Quickly, he jammed his staff through, completing the motion and stopping the fall of the gondola for at least as long as it would hold. He would hang on as long as he could, for what it was worth, to try to keep it jammed as good and as long as possible.

"Lightning. Second Pokeball" Josh commanded to the Raichu, and the Raichu let out a chirp in response before tapping the ball on his belt. Out came a very large Charizard, bigger than the average. Fawkes appeared to figure out what was going on quickly and the Charizard moved below the gondola to try its best to hold it up.

So much was happening around him and he couldn't keep track anymore. All he could do was focus on their survival.
